I have a first generation XCR in 5.56 and 6.8mm, a fantastic rifle and very easy to swap barrels. I guess I have had it about 10 years now. A real pleasure to shoot.
They are also in design phase of a PCC which will be multi-caliber as well. I might end up with all three verisons XCR-L M and P. Awesome design and American made. So good.
Have had mine for 5 years. Been flawless. Once you adjust the gas setting at the lowest setting that will flawlessly run with your ammo choice, recoil is so mild, shoots externally nice. Really simple design. Gas block area gets really hot. Highly recommend getting a burn proof gear wrap to protect your hand if not wearing a glove. They are one of the few companies who are willing to make their rifles compliant for ban states as well.
I had an early XCR-L that catastrophically failed twice. Robinson's excellent customer service took care of it and now it's great. I have two more of the later versions and they are keepers.
I have the earlier version. I have not shot it for a few years now, and just took it to the range the other day. I have forgotten how great of a shooter this gun is.
My two favorite rifles!! Well, I have a top 3 and my #3 is the B&T APC-223. A video comparing those 3 would be AMAZING. All 3 have surpassed the SCAR imho.
@@superboy305 I rather pay $3k for the B&T than $3k for the SCAR. As far as the XCR, it hasn't really dropped in price, the price varies on the model you choose. Price's range from $1900-2600.
@@alexferrara9287I know the 556 XCR was 2600, now 2195. I get the reliability but I was were you were a month ago. I said to myself what is this 3K B&T 556 doing a 2k and some change MCX or XCR can't do. Just me
@@superboy305 Just as a clarification, I'm in the U.S., not sure if that affects the price. Also, just recently, the R.A. website has gone through some changes. As I type this comment I am on the R.A website just to double check. The prices of the rifles themselves have increased but, depending on what you choose, the add ons are cheaper or $0. That said, the standard XCR-L (5.56, 7.62x39, .300 blk, etc.) originally started at $1.9k and some change, now it's at $2195. The competition model is an extra $200 off the bat. Keep in mind, going from keymod to m-lok increases the price by $100 but, before it was $200 if im not mistaken. The standard XCR-M originally started around $2.3-2.4k if I'm not mistaken, now it starts at $2,550. The competition model starts at $2,695. The add ons of the XCR-M are the same as the XCR-L. And I get what you mean when comparing the XCR, Bren 2, MCX, etc. to the B&T but, that wasn't the point i was making. I was comparing the FN SCAR to the B&T APC-223 because both are $3k. If i had to pick between the two, I'd go B&T all day. The XCR and CZ Bren's are just other platforms amongst my favorites. The XCR, Bren, and B&T are actually my top 3 lol.
Although the actual bolt head is an evolutionary design change, the way the bolt carrier, gas piston, and recoil assembly work together is about as close to the Daewoo k2 system without actually copying it.
Just found out about this and it reminds me of the MXM from ArmA 3. Now the nerd inside me wants one in 6.5. Thanks for reinforcing the good reviews I have seen.
I own 2 -Ms (both .308) and more than a handful of -Ls in various calibers and lengths. It's my favorite platform, hands down. I own ones from back in 2009 to current....and you can get parts to upgrade an older model directly through Rob Arms or a couple vendors stateside. They are one of the simplest, most rugged designs I've ever seen. Can't say enough good about them.
I have one of the original XCR with the Fal Para type stock they used to put on it. thousands of rounds thru it without a problem. Good Rifle must have it over 15 years
@@fmonk the scar is used in one way or another by over 20 countries, and is still be adopted today. The ACR and XCR are used just by poland for a security force.
I'm late to the party, but I'm a big fan of the system. I found my XCR-L at a LGS and picked it up for cheap since I don't think they knew what they had. Alex and the team at RA have been super helpful and gone way over and above to keep me happy. I've since bought an XCR-M from them and both are great. I have two caliber conversion kits for the XCR-L and just last night swapped back from 6.8 SPC to 5.56 with my trusty Allen wrench. It comes in a full pound lighter than my MCX Virtus, has a better factory trigger, and more caliber options than anything else I own. What's not to love? Oh, did I mention, it's a total tack driver out of the box? :-)
I have a couple of XCR-Ls, I'm shooting 5.56 and 7.62X39. In 5.56 what brand ammo are you using? They are my goto weapons. I like ARs, but the XCR-L is far more superior....

Interesting coincidence, just ordered one of these in 6.5 Grendel a few weeks ago. Glad I placed the order when I did; I bet RA received a huge influx of new orders after this video went up.
I've had mine for about 6 years now. It was my first modern sporting rifle and still prefer it to anything else including the ar15 platform. Absolutely my go to rifle.
I've always been fascinated by this rifle. I spoke with Alex Robinson and some of his staff close to a decade ago and they struck me as very knowledgable. The ergonomics on this gun are second to none in my opinion. I'm heavily invested in my AKs and ARs, but there are some design aspects of the XCR that I do think are superior. I want to get my hands on one for testing at some point.
The Stribog A3 is out!!!! I think we all would love your review on that. I only trust the Military Arms Channel on firearms reviews. Thank you Tim and the team for all the hard work
Finally, Tim gave this platform the review it deserves. The previous review MAC did with the XCR, it had to share with another rifle and was not as in depth as this. Thumbs "UP", thanks Tim.
I'm in the process of ordering one in 6.5 Grendel the basic color Black FDE and Green and standard cost nothing extra but if you want your in a different cerokote color it cost and extra $100.00
i have been wanting one of these for a while i really like the micro one too. And for the ppl that think 1700$ is expensive just go look at other rifles similar to this thing like the scar acr or even the drd aptus which is a pretty good deal and its 2300$.
zeleni zub yea I definitely see where you are coming from but I’ve got a pile of ar15’s in every length and caliber out there and for the sake of something different 1700$ isn’t a bad price considering it’s direct competition (scar, acr) but the sig mcx and virtis aren’t bad options either. I’d definitely buy this over a high end ar15 and the price of ak’s has gotten absolutely insane wish I woulda bought a bunch of them up 10-12 years ago
@@zelenizub2036 Sorry, but those 3 ARs would be Andersons/PSA and those 2 AKs are probably Centuries. Good ARs like BCM and AKs like Arsenal are comprable in price.
@@Ideo7Z It's not 2005 anymore. They almost all function the same in 2020. You have to really work to find a crappy unreliable AR. Most receivers are machines by the same few companies, and the raw forgings come from a couple forges. There has been plenty of anecdotal, and experimental data to back it up. Long gone are the days of needing to spend over $1k to get a good AR.
Robinson Arms didn't even forget to send a blankfire adapter, they did include one, it was just packaged in a separate box which the DOD neglected to open.
Canada was a big customer to Robarm....i hope the recent bans don't cause to much of a negative impact to the business. I hope the US market picks up the slack to keep them pumping out these rifles. I look to pick one up in a couple of months.
Well i think i may buy one. I love how it's an AR/AK on the inside with the AK bolt & piston system and the AR trigger group. Only concern is the bolt release, it's located in the same spot as my arx100 and I've never shot it because i don't want to mess up all the practice i have with my ambi AR's and APC223 since the bolt release is located above the magazine release. It may sound silly but the potential is there
Pricing at Brownells to me is what I call gouging. They're selling mags at close to double the price of advertised prices from other outlets of gear for the same thing.
Meridianordnance.com my local gun shop has these mags for like 12.99$ check him out, he also hand builds ak47s...his lead time is about 6 months because he does them himself with no help but their great
Always wanted either one of these or an ACR back in the day. Glad to see them still kickin' and delivering when so many others screwed the pooch on the whole "next gen rifle". I think the design is pretty top tier. But they are pretty rare. If only you could meld some of the ambi features into an AR-15 (I only say that because I have a closet full of them).
Looking forward to the suppressor review. In our testing over the last couple years, piston ARs have seemed to meter better at the right ear over DI. I assume this is due to the elimination of the gas venting out the side of the BCG. May want to consider heavier bullets for suppressor testing. It was a small sample size (10 rounds from 1 lot each) but 62gr tulammo 223 metered better at the ear than 55gr tulammo 223 from the same suppressor and host on the same testing equipment a couple minutes apart.
I can’t believe how smooth that gun is. And beautiful looking. That looks like their 16” barrel. Is that correct. Can I buy the 16” complete and later swap out with their 11” or 14” barrel ??? Great video. You do a great job. Thx JJ
FINALLY it has returned! Been lobbying for this update for years now :) Cool that you named drop Small Arms Solutions as well. I know IV8888 did a M17\18 review and they should of just done what you did!
A lot of other channels don't give credit to channels that inspire them or share info with them that they use in video. I try to do that. SAS is a great channel and Chris is a wealth of knowledge. I hope to do a collaboration video with him someday. Oh, and Eric and Chad are good friends, I'm not picking on them. Chances are they didn't watch my M17/18 video. You wouldn't believe the number of times channels have done similar videos and released them not knowing the other one did it.
I am on the fence between the Bren 2 and the XCR-L. Clearly the Bren 2 has the larger company behind it. I have had my eye on the XCL for a long time, but the lack of exposure and the apprehension of the small company has made me reluctant. If you hand to pick between the two, which is better?
Its close honestly. I have been doing a ton of research on both. They are my top two options right now. I'm going to end up with the XCR but the .308 version.
L Phillips I have the XCR-M 16” and the Bren 2 pistol in 7.62x39 11”. Love both. Not an apples to apples I know. That said the XCR seems more ruggedly constructed, but it is not light. The controls are little better on the XCR for me. The gas system has a lot more control too. For the Bren, it light and well balanced. The finish might be a hair bit nicer, but both are excellent. Butt plate on the Bren is a little wobbly, you can replace it with a Dan Haga design, but that makes disassembly harder requiring tools.
L Phillips I just purchased an XCR -L competition on the recommendation from my son who lives in California. He’s employed in the defense industry and works with some ex special forces guys who rave about this rifle. They claim its superior to the SCAR. I assume they’re talking about the XCR-M. Same weapon just different caliber choices. I mounted it with a Vortex Crossfire ll Hog Hunter scope. 3x12 56mm bell. The gun functions flawlessly and the ability to change calibers is an appealing feature for me. I have yet to purchase a conversion kit. Never fired a Bren 2 and probably never will. I’m solid on this rifle. Good luck,
I wish more people would stand up and fight for their rights. Far too many gun owners take them for granted when every year, for every political party, we face threats to our rights.
$1700 msrp is not bad for a piston gun when its competition is the SCAR, MCX Virtus, Bren, HK, ACR, B&T etc. A good AK like an Arsenal or KVAR is only few hundred dollars less. Same with really good ARs like BCM or SOLGW.
I have an old gen XCR, one of the first when they came out ~10 years ago. Does the new gen maul the brass like the first gen did? I love mine however I would like to know the weight difference between the old gen Picatinny frame system and what looks like M-lok rail system. The first gen is heavy with rails all the way around compared to an M-lok equipped AR
I'll have to look next time. My rifle chucks the spent cases into the next zip code though. I can't complain, I prefer a rifle chucks the spent casing into orbit vs. dropping it at my feet.
found the XCR because I was looking to build a "different AR" so I started looking at non-standard features I wanted like " Man I want a non-reciprocating side charger" So I found a really good upper for that( New frontier). I've always been a BAD lever guy and then Phase Five kind of blew it out of the water making the bar part of the bolt release which was amazing, Then Teal Blue Bravo was like " hey man, you got a Dremel? check out the PDQ" and with Aero and New Frontier making amazing lowers that are PDQ ready (New Frontier G-4 billet lower is my fave) I was like hell yeah what else would be fun? Folding Stock? Piston? I mean I could just buy a Sig MCX, those are pretty badass, I'd get the piston and folding stock on a dope lil rifle......BUT then Im back to the lame rear charger and Id have to go back to the bolt-on style Bad lever to have the Ambi bolt...... Galil Ace was another cool rifle with a bunch of the stuff I wanted but can't change the grips and it has a reciprocating bolt so it comes a bit short of what I wanted. The AK-20s even piqued my interest but just not what I'm looking for. Then I saw the CZ Bren 2's and I was like OH Man IMO it is neck and neck with the features I was personally looking for Pistons ( short vs XCR Long) Non-reciprocating side charger, Ambi Bolt catch, and release, Cz says the available calibers are swappable while XCR built the rifle on that ability. Considering these 2 rifles pretty much equal from my personal point of view It came down to some partially superficial factors, I like the look of their rails more, and I can put AR grips I like on it, even more, important is the fact that I can get it "custom-built" I can pick the barrel length, profile, and twist, the rail length, muzzle attachment, a few stock or brace options and color choice of factory Cerakote colors. This will be my next rifle %100
I want one of these in my collection, but I personally think that the button used to take it apart is the biggest flaw and that it can be accidently hit especially if used in the military. The pins you push out on an AR-15 works great and I don't see why they wouldn't just do that. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind.
@@axgreenious9400 You don't take the gun apart to clear a malfunction, even if you did the AR-15 still allows you to do that while not easily coming apart if it is slung on your chest and the button catches on your gear.
I'm designing (and trying to get made, going to seek out a company that will cut it for me) a handguard extension for these rifles. It'll make a standard length upper the length of a competition length upper, but be a bit more visually appealing while also adding to the mounting ability of the rifle. It's coming along well.
For 1700$ (6750 PLN) in Poland we actually pay for Aero Precision AR15... Or Polish GROT S16 FB M1 (6900 PLN without iron sights). I would consider it ,,quite cheap". Compared to SCAR-L, HK433, Bren 2 - XCR seems to be cheaper. Not even to mention - Sig Sauer (Swiss) SG553.
I want to have my collection have no 2 rifles in the same caliber. Maybe same model but have to be for different purposes, at least for me. My 5.56 ar is for plinking and fun and the 300 blk is for groundhogs, works very well for how far I need it

Please see yourself out of these videos if you don’t understand hunting for varmints or pest to protect livestock. Especially when the farmers/ranchers who care for those animals treat them as family.
I always wondered why you would kill prairie dogs, but that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying that.
Been saving money for a while and this is gonna be my first purchase when I’m 18
I have a first generation XCR in 5.56 and 6.8mm, a fantastic rifle and very easy to swap barrels. I guess I have had it about 10 years now. A real pleasure to shoot.
I'd like to see this take in the AR in the InRange Mud test!
J Corbo no dust cover = fail in 3-5 rounds.
@@jonmeray713 Yup. It would run just about the same as the Scar and ACR
APB 28 or mighty AKM hahahaha
@@apb2887 didn't scar do pretty great in the mud test?
There are some videos of it being tested in the mud. It did extremely well.
Damn, lowest setting for all ammo? What’s the recoil like when you open it up more?
I had an early XCR-L that catastrophically failed twice. Robinson's excellent customer service took care of it and now it's great. I have two more of the later versions and they are keepers.
I have the earlier version. I have not shot it for a few years now, and just took it to the range the other day. I have forgotten how great of a shooter this gun is.
Man I'm loving those sleek lines. Glad to see modern rifles moving in that direction. I'd be curious to see how this stacks up against the Bren 2.
Wow a full review, thanks Tim/MAC! And wow, that ranch you visited @18:22 looks gorgeous. I need to move to Wyoming...
It was, it's a beautiful place and state. I hope to go back one day and do some antelope hunting!
How about an XCR-L vs the Bren 2? Would seem to be a natural matchup!!
My two favorite rifles!! Well, I have a top 3 and my #3 is the B&T APC-223. A video comparing those 3 would be AMAZING. All 3 have surpassed the SCAR imho.
@@alexferrara9287 B&T is 3K thought, while XCR dropped in price
I think you're right and totally forgot. I have a K2 so I will show it in my next video with a XCR. Thanks for the post!
Love that Robinson Arms is like right down the street from me. I will buy an XCR-L within the year.
Just found out about this and it reminds me of the MXM from ArmA 3. Now the nerd inside me wants one in 6.5. Thanks for reinforcing the good reviews I have seen.
Glad to see Robinson getting some love. Haven’t heard much from them lately. Will definitely be getting ahold of an XCR.
I have a lot of ar's, AK's, Barrett's but this looks like a well thought out rifle. Very simple, I like that.
Tim, good post! I've owned an XCR-L for 10y. It's my goto rifle. I have 2, one is a SBR, plus I went w/both 5.56 and 7.62X39. Love my XCRs...
You're not alone. Lot's of people really like their rifles.
@@Militaryarmschannel Also, thank you for mentioning Small Arms Solutions... Chris did a great job on the XCR rifles ...
Im pretty much sold on these. Im planning to get the XCR-M as soon as possible.
Wow! it´s a FAl with an AK bolt in .223! All the best parts in one design!
Just great to see another review of the XCR. I've had my first gen XCR since 2008 and still love it.
Great rifle. Easy to take down and clean. Well built. I love switching between 5.56 and 7.62x39. Handy dandy.
I have one of the original XCR with the Fal Para type stock they used to put on it. thousands of rounds thru it without a problem. Good Rifle must have it over 15 years
Looks like you left your SCAR and your FAL alone in the safe and forgot to give the SCAR a condom! 😅
I was thinking more of the Bren 2 mixed with the acr
Bold of you to assume the SCAR is a top.
@loja babel cool
@loja babel LOL.. and being phased out by the Rangers.
@@fmonk the scar is used in one way or another by over 20 countries, and is still be adopted today. The ACR and XCR are used just by poland for a security force.
Thanks you MAC-attack for the kick-ass content you filmed for our pewpew needs after this holiest of Americana weekends. God bless
MAC, I’m deciding between the Robinson Armament and the Sig MCX Virtus as a work gun (LEO). Which would you stake your life on? Thanks for all you do.
Bump.
Vest Cool Rifle !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for showing this unique Rifle from Robinson Armament, Tim !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching.
@@spacedredd For just blasting at the range, I've been using Federal 55 gr mostly, but for accuracy, I've used the IMI 69 gr. Both work swimmingly.
That pic is awesome, those hats makes all of you looks like twins. Really good people you choose as friends Tim. Hope you had a great 4th of July as well all american friends on this channel community. God bless North and South Americas. Greetings from Chile.
Love the reviews as always MAC. I'm with you, that upper receiver innovation is outstanding. I'm looking at my ARs in shame now.
The Mormon K2, one of them is on my list of guns I need
So many great Utah firearms companies right now. We’re spoiled!
The Stribog A3 is out!!!! I think we all would love your review on that. I only trust the Military Arms Channel on firearms reviews. Thank you Tim and the team for all the hard work
Love my XCR L, so much better than the scar. Not really lightweight but still a great rifle. Now to get an XCR M in 6.5 Creedmoor.
What a great rifle! Thanks for doing a review of this rifle!
I can tell by your facial expressions and enthusiasm that your really enjoy this gun. That’s awesome I’d love to check one out some day.
Can't believe I never saw this video. I've been subscribed for a while. Great video Mac.
Finally, Tim gave this platform the review it deserves. The previous review MAC did with the XCR, it had to share with another rifle and was not as in depth as this. Thumbs "UP", thanks Tim.
XCR so underrated.
Great rifle, and great company to support given the new restrictions in Canada
Competition Vid Scar 16, Bren 2, XCR.
Yes please.
There’s a very similar video with the 308 version against 6 other rifles and this blew them away
Don’t forget the sig virtus
I'm in the process of ordering one in 6.5 Grendel the basic color Black FDE and Green and standard cost nothing extra but if you want your in a different cerokote color it cost and extra $100.00
As a left handed shooter I’m so glad companies have made it a priority to make ambi controls
Waiting on the follow up
i have been wanting one of these for a while i really like the micro one too.
XCR-L vs VIRTUS review please; with a BREN mention.
It may sound silly but the potential is there
We find that once people shoot an XCR, they don't shoot their ARs anymore so that won't be a problem!
Pricing at Brownells to me is what I call gouging. They're selling mags at close to double the price of advertised prices from other outlets of gear for the same thing.
I personally hate their website layout as well
@@Halo5399 meh its old fashioned but functional
Meridianordnance.com my local gun shop has these mags for like 12.99$ check him out, he also hand builds ak47s...his lead time is about 6 months because he does them himself with no help but their great
LastJosephite yesssssssssssssss im
Glad I’m not alone
Micro econ 101, higher demand, higher prices
Always wanted either one of these or an ACR back in the day. Glad to see them still kickin' and delivering when so many others screwed the pooch on the whole "next gen rifle". I think the design is pretty top tier. But they are pretty rare. If only you could meld some of the ambi features into an AR-15 (I only say that because I have a closet full of them).
Great video, as always!
Looking forward to the suppressor review. In our testing over the last couple years, piston ARs have seemed to meter better at the right ear over DI. I assume this is due to the elimination of the gas venting out the side of the BCG.
May want to consider heavier bullets for suppressor testing. It was a small sample size (10 rounds from 1 lot each) but 62gr tulammo 223 metered better at the ear than 55gr tulammo 223 from the same suppressor and host on the same testing equipment a couple minutes apart.
really like the design and features. If this thing will find its way over the pond? One can hope.
I can’t believe how smooth that gun is. And beautiful looking.
That looks like their 16” barrel. Is that correct. Can I buy the 16” complete and later swap out with their 11” or 14” barrel ???
Great video. You do a great job. Thx JJ
Yes
like the rifle, looks very smooth shooting and so is the design :) simple, functional, exactly what you should expect from a rifle like that :)
@@Militaryarmschannel Its great to see ! That would be awesome to see you and Chris do a video! I get the IV8888 part as well
I am on the fence between the Bren 2 and the XCR-L.
L Phillips
I have the XCR-M 16” and the Bren 2 pistol in 7.62x39 11”.
Good luck,
God Bless america and their 2A! their people didn't know how lucky they truly are!
I wish more people would stand up and fight for their rights. Far too many gun owners take them for granted when every year, for every political party, we face threats to our rights.
I love the look of that rifle.
$1700 msrp is not bad for a piston gun when its competition is the SCAR, MCX Virtus, Bren, HK, ACR, B&T etc. A good AK like an Arsenal or KVAR is only few hundred dollars less. Same with really good ARs like BCM or SOLGW.
XCR vs Bren 2 comparo vid please, great content as usual!
I really want an XCR M. I have heard they are not good guns so will be watching these videos to see how yours does before I make a purchase
Please more content on this gun. Really want to see it in action more.
Always liked the XCR. Glad to see it's still on the market. Any thoughts on getting a different caliber kit for it?
I plan to do a 6.8, possibly a 6.5 Grendel and I want to get the XCR-M in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Military Arms Channel they also make it in .243😏
@@Militaryarmschannel Can't wait for the reviews of the M! I really want one but would love to see how it does for you first
Interesting gun if I had more money I'd buy one. I like different and unique guns. I own 2 kel-tecs , because they are different, and I like them.
i have an updated gen 1 in 7.62x39. love it. only complaint is it's heavy. looking to get a new one in 5.56 and the M in .308
The bolt release and charging handle kinda reminds me of the FAL
Really want to see an M96 video! I really like mine. Would definitely like to add an XCR to the collection at some point. Great video!
I think it's time to bring back the gauntlet, this time for rifles/carbines
Nice rifle!
Controls are similar to my POF-USA P415 EDGE rifle
That bolt spits brass like a boss!
XCR-Ls have always done that, even with gas turned down. You gotta go 6ft away to find your pile of brass.
found the XCR because I was looking to build a "different AR" so I started looking at non-standard features I wanted like " Man I want a non-reciprocating side charger" So I found a really good upper for that( New frontier).
Pit this against the Bren 2 and make a video! Similar price point, both 5.56 non-AR designs. Would love to see that video
Glad you re did this gun.
I'm designing (and trying to get made, going to seek out a company that will cut it for me) a handguard extension for these rifles. It'll make a standard length upper the length of a competition length upper, but be a bit more visually appealing while also adding to the mounting ability of the rifle. It's coming along well.
I like how prairie dogs are fearless , you can shoot right next to them or miss them by a hair and they won’t move lol sweet rifle btw 🇺🇸🤘🏼
I don't know if it's being fearless or dumb, either way they make for amazing targets. Such good sports!
My 5.56 ar is for plinking and fun and the 300 blk is for groundhogs, works very well for how far I need it
Bring back the gauntlet Tim!
ahh crap(being super sarcastic)...i was in the middle ob thinking about a building a rifle.....now...you show me this good man
Hey MAC, if you had to choose between this XCR-L and the Bushmaster ACR, which would you prefer and why?
Wow It really shoots that brass out
