One should know that the rifles in this video were the very first .308 Pistols send to Canada years ago. We changed the way the barrel mounts so they are much more accurate now.
I bought a used one in mint condition but the quad rail and heavy barrel makes it really heavy, serial number is in the 8500. Just wondering if upgrading to a keymod upper , how much weight would i be saving?
@@different7939 It would make it much lighter. I cannot give you the exact weight difference but it's substantial. It's even more substantial on the longer models such as the Mini and Standard Uppers.
@@alexrobinson2480 wow, 1/7 twist in .308 barrels, never heard of such fast spin for 308, but I am excited to try out such barrel in my XCR-M someday. You guys sure do innovate all the time.
I handled both the full length 5.56 and 7.62x51 versions at the store and I found both to be too heavy and poorly balanced. The FAMAE 542 felt lighter and more properly balanced. I haven't had a chance to shoot either yet though. They seem like good hunting and screwing around guns.
Dude. Type81. Chinese Type56 AK's are just about held in reverence in the US and we'd love to see a video of the Type81, it's advanced departure from the AK platform. Still not an AK, but as good as you'll get in Canada!
Really happy seeing additional presenters for TFB TV. Overall good job with the video, the information given was interesting and concise. The pacing in the editing was pretty good, however maybe try to have more B roll over the times Edward is looking at the ground or off to the side while he is talking, like at 2:32-2:45. Hope to see more Edward videos in the future.
If they would change the rear take down lever with a captive pin I'd be interested. I can see hitting that lever and the gun opening up when you don't want it to.
Good video with lots of good info. Youre a natural presenter. Dont know what I think about 308 in such a short barrel... Btw the drone shots provide for a neat prospective, your vids are TV level professional.
When this video was made the XCR-M Pistol reviewed was several yrs old. We had made changes to accurize them before this video was made. They should have tested a more current one. If you buy one of these, you will find much better a accuracy.
Ive owned 2 xcr rifles in my lifetime and I absolutely adore this weapons platform. I've also shot FN scars as well. I prefer the Robinson Armament xcr over this scar I think it's a better bang for your buck and American. I believe that this scar is overpriced and if I want one Not only would I have to spend $3,000 but I would have to get a lower receiver from Calvary arms so I can shoot Sr 25 mags or standard AR-15 mags depending on caliber.
Quality video as always! Like others, .308 with a 9" is a little bit odd. All of these SCAR submission platforms seem a little clunky and expensive me. I do so many builds on the AR platform with so much versatility, it is alien to me when Canucks have to go a different direction due to legislation. Good luck with the RMP regs on the 10/22 mags.
I don't see the downside to these rifles in .308 specifically, they are priced aggressively for that market. The closest is the Galil that has the same features for similar prices. Xcr is built in merica & you can get it exactly how you want it for about $300 more than a galil. The rest of the piston stock folding 308s are 3k and up
You can thank Marc Lépine as to why we can only have a five round magazine. I won't be surprised if semi-automatics get banned here like they did in Australia.
I was getting similar accuracy with my M until I sent the rifle back to wolverine supply (the sanctioned Canadian service center for RA) and they upgraded my gas system for free to the new system that's standard on the rifles this year. My groups shrank from 4-5 MOA to 1.5 with rack ammo and half that for hand loads. If you're underwhelmed with your rifles performance I'd give them a call.
The way it was explained to me was that the new gas system utilized a thicker diameter tube assembly. It takes the play out of the gas system, similar to the way that unitizing the gas system on an M1A/M14 will tighten groups. Call Robarms in salt lake -the tech guys are awesome and took a whole lot of time addressing my issues. I've heard the same about Wolverine supply too.
The XCR's stock is lightyears ahead of the SCAR's, as well as the gas regulator, action mechanism, charging handle, bolt release, and firing controls. I got an XCR-L last year, and in all honesty it seems to be the only "adaptable" rifle that has multi-caliber/barrel options.
"The XCR's stock is lightyears ahead of the SCAR's" How so? The Scar's is collapsable and even has a cheek riser. The XCR just seems to have a standard "AR-15" stock.
The XCR in this video does not come standard with the AR 15 style stock, they come with ACR folding style ones when in non pistol configuration, and in my personal preference, they are better then the SCAR stocks, not so flimsy feeling
For .308 the shortest length should be about 12". Maybe if short barrel ammo was made, that could change. Purhaps less & faster burning powder would make less noise blast & maybe even more fps.
Thank you! I've been hearing it's very unreliable, but that may just be based on the price, which is below other rifles in its class, such as the SCAR, ACR, and ARX.
Quick review for American viewers... Get an AR! Heavy recoil impulse. Heavy rifle. AR's , even in Canada, are about 1/2 the price. And that's for a quality one! My Dominion Arms M-16 clone shoots way better than XCR L , Difference in price, $700 VS $2700.
The XCR family was unreliable for a time, but that was nearly 10 years ago when the kinks were worked out. look into the XCR family, and compare it's features with the SCAR, ACR, and ARX. None of the other rifles even have more than two different barrel lengths or calibers; Some are barely supported by their manufacturers anymore.
Could you please explain, how Canada defines a pistol vs rifle? Would be interesting compared to our "pistol arm brace" work around. BTW, Robinson's first rifle could be converted to top feed, ala BREN, or perhaps Stoner. Was also convertible to 7.62 X 39. Anyone remember? Ask Robinson---or perhaps they prefer not to remember?
Loosely at best. Generally a pistol is a firearm designed or adapted to be fired one handed. But once something is in the registry as a pistol, it's pretty much determined to be a pistol for the rest of its life. Receiver stamping is overwhelmingly used to determine what a firearm was manufactured to be.
A manufacturer can specify any firearm as a pistol, however this automatically requires registration (because pistols are in the "restricted class") and can only be shot at an approved range, as far as the lay-Canadian shooter is aware (me). The type of firearm is designated solely by barrel length and the manufacturer.
So you can put a full length stock on a Rossi mare's leg? That would definitely be a useful truck gun. In the U.S. you can do the same thing, but first you have to pay a transfer tax to the BATFE to 'manufacture' your short-barreled rifle and wait 9 months to a year for the stamp to come back.
When people started buying those (the 5.56 variant) here in the states and making videos, they claimed that the company lost the government contract because they had several failures in the trials.
Alex Robinson has gone on record in the past that it was the BFA. Others have suggest the GL component. I'd love to hear the story from someone who was there.
Overall a pretty fair shake. Not sure why you said "though the charging handle is non-reciprocating.", as if it was a bad thing. Non-reciprocating is definitely an asset. Also, your comment about not sugar-coating the accuracy - what exactly did you expect out of a 9" barrel? What other 9" barreled 7.62 NATO have you shot at that range and how did they compare? Doesn't that say more about the performance of 7.62 NATO out of 9" barrel than the XCR-M itself?
I am not a rifle expert, but I'm not too big a fan of SBRs. I get that it is meant to be light weight and more short range, but can't you accomplish the same with a bullpup rifle? Somebody explain to me the difference.
Canada restricting guns by the receiver? That's honestly the smartest thing I heard in a decade. I mean, let's be honest, an AR-15 "pistol" is technically a modified rifle. The gun was originally designed to be a rifle. The so-called "pistol" variant is just rifle that's essentially been sawed-off like a shotgun. And a Glock 17 with a shoulder stock or even that Micro-Roni thing or whatever it's called, is just a simple modification. I mean, how does adding a piece of plastic (or whatever material) magically change the gun's performance? It doesn't. I mean, sure, it helps the shooter, but lets assume the weapon was super-glued to the floor. It makes no change to the weapon's performance. It doesn't even change the barrel length which is far more substantial because that will actually affect the accuracy and range. I think the base of the gun (the receiver) is how the weapon should be classified. However, I do think barrel classifications would also logical for the reason I stated a moment ago. I will say though, that's probably their only logical gun law. That's just my opinion though, but I hope you found it logical. Have a good day.

Why not Steve? Because you have taken what WAS a high-powered battle rifle round and neutered it almost to the point of ineffectiveness. I would bet a 150 gr. projectile will not make 2000 fps from a 9" tube.....and you even said it isn't accurate.
how do you like the ranger loops? Most Americans pooh pooh them as a gimmick, which I can appreciate, but in places with magazine regulations like my native California I've been thinking they could give just a little more to get your hands on.
Makes a huge difference on compact magazines. We have work around for the M14 that almost sit flush in the rifle. The original magpul makes a big difference for getting them in and out of the gun. Same goes for 10 round AR-15 magazines.

9" .308, just why?
.308 isn't as affected by a short barrel as 5.56mm/.223. you can have a really short .308 and still have good lethality out to 600yds.
Why not? ~ Steve
At 9 inches though, that seems like a LOT of unburnt powder. The other issue is when is Robinson going to kill it through poor business decisions?
It's _looks_ cool, though, and I think aesthetics are probably a major deciding factor in purchasing this gun.
