  • In this video I explain how I cleaned the asphalt shingles on my roof. Please do your homework because I am just a do-it-yourselfer and don't know if this is the best approach. My goal is to show you how it worked for me so that you can compare it with other approaches.
Here are the materials and how I did it:
I started out by spraying the roof down with the hose. This can also be done with a pressure washer. Fill a bucket with 10 parts chlorine and 1 part Agent Green. Connect a fluent injector (aka chemical or soap injector) to your pressure washer and drop it's tube down into the solution. Connect a soap tip to the pressure washer gun. Turn on the water hose that is connected to your pressure washer and then fire up your pressure washer. Use the pressure washer to spread the chlorine solution onto your roof. I had to climb up to the roof to do that. Now disconnect the fluent dispenser from the pressure washer. Put a 25 degree tip (or higher) onto the pressure washer gun. Climb back up to the roof once the pressure washer is ready to go for spraying straight water. Hold the pressure washer gun about a foot away from the roof and pressure wash the shingles. You will instantly see your shingles go from grimey to very clean with each pass of the pressure washer.
If your pressure washer knocks a noticeable amount of pebbles off the shingles then you may not want to try this approach.
