    • Soft Wash Roof Cleanin...
    In this video you will see I was washing a shingle roof using bleach soap and water. What do you want to do is take a pump sprayer that you can buy on Amazon put 75% bleach add 6 to 8 ounces of dishwashing soap fill it up the rest of the way with water 25% shake it up spray it on, let the rain wash it off or rinse it with the hose
    You can also put it on Full strength Bleach if the stains are bad. I am a Contractor and i use 12.5 Industrial Bleach

He said this is for the people who can’t hire people or just like doing projects around the house! If your scared of the dilution he gives because of plants or you think it will damage something simply CHANGE THE DILUTION to make it weaker!!!!!!!! Christ people. Your not holding a gun to anybody’s head saying use this or else. By looking at the shape of the shingles/ knowing how old they are are things you should know as well and just taking a few minutes to properly think about all the variables people should be able to decide what dilution is best! If your shingles are 5 years old or 25 years old makes a big difference. An older women asked me to clean her roof and siding for a side job if I want too so this is why I found your page. It may take me a few hours but I can honestly say by listening to multiple you tubers that will actually tell you about about multiple chemicals that can be used without making me buy a course for $1000 I will conveniently use my common sense I’ve learned and make the old women happy!

      Very true rinsing can speed up the process. If you have a Lotta rain in your area you can just let the rain do it. But renting it can speed up the process if the stains are dark use stronger bleach or less water

    Hey sir , great video.
    Just quick question , we do seamless gutters here in Houston and I wanted to ask you how do you keep the plants from getting bleach if they don’t have gutters ?
    Also let’s say you do have gutters and the downspout are going straight to a flower bed . What would be good advise in this situation ?

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  2 года назад +1

      The first thing you do before you get on the roof is water water water on the plants and on the ground near the house. If they have gutters you can also bag the gutter with plastic green bags. But for the most part I spray it on from the top until it gets down to the bottom and stop. I don’t rinse my roof off I let the rain do it therefore The bleach is diluted by the rain. You can also use pool shock for washing a roof. Rinsing the plants before and after you do the roof cleaning is important. If you do not have gutters don’t worry about rinsing the roof like I said let the rain do it

      @@Drewsroofingandhomerepair I did the cleaning recently and it mostly worked, but I have a couple bits of feedback for other viewers:
      1) My roof had more debris, and more moss (at least on the north side) than the house in your video. As such, I should have swept the roof, and if safely, maybe even brushed or scraped some of the moss away. I have a fairly low angle roof, this might be harder for someone else and their home. Safety is most important!
      2) A friend was watching me and he said I was putting down a lot of solution on the roof, even though it didn't seem like it. He shot a video clip of me, and it sure looked like I did put a lot, but I later realized it's because in the video I was mostly back-lit. I definitely used less solution than you show in your instruction here, as I didn't have it running off as much, and that was a mistake. When in doubt, use more! The solution doesn't seem to harm the roof one bit, so using a lot is a good idea, especially on a roof that needs it.
      3) The debris that came down, especially on the north/most mossy side of my roof, partly clogged my gutters. Be aware if you have a roof with a lot of moss, junk and growth on it.
      4) It definitely made a difference anyway, even if I didn't use enough. In fact, I think I'm good for now. I am in the northwest and it's now rainy season. I'm going to re-evaluate again late spring, and if the roof still has bits of moss, simply repeat the process, using a broom first, then plenty of solution next time.
      Very simple to do. Very inexpensive. Works well. Just be safe. Have a good ladder, and a friend to spot you.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  Год назад +1

      Thank you for your amazing feedback. Just to let you know I don’t recommend sweeping the most off to be honest the best thing to do would be if there’s Maas is to use to bleach straight with soap no water. That will release the fingers of the moss and then it can be easily washed off with a water hose.

It is 12.5 your normal bleach you buy at Lowe’s is probably 6% so if your stains are heavy you can go with straight bleach 6 ounces of dish soap, sprayed on rinse it off. Make sure you rinse all your bushes around the house as it will stain the leaves and sometimes kill them if it hits the roots. All you have to do is make sure you water down everything before you do the roof if there is vegetation around or downspouts.

My issue is after a couple of weeks its still not fully cleaned so I've had to do another application. No algae, just the magma. I reapplied today and the dwell was about 3-4 hours. I can tell you what’s going on you had major stains on your roof that probably should’ve been cleaned off a few years ago so my suggestion to you would be if you’re buying your bleach at Lowe’s or Home Depot or Walmart or whatever that is household bleach OK so household bleach is only 6% you can very easily go with straight bleach 8 ounces of water and that will take care of that roof the rest of the way. Keeping it real here at Drew’s Roofing And Home Repair. I want people to be able to watch my video and realized that this is not a big deal and that it can be done by homeowner. And if the homeowner does not want to do it themselves and at least it lets them know that it can be done. So people like you are great for taking care of the people that don’t want to do it themselves. And there is good money in this business. You should go to an industrial supply store that sells pressure washing stuff and start a little at a time by in a little bit of this in a little bit of that they will tell you what you need to make your business efficient. That’s what I did I started out slow. I still don’t have the Dev line pump set up which would be awesome but I only do the videos I do to show homeowners that they don’t need a devil on pump or a contractor to wash their shingles. If they feel comfortable getting out there that can easily do it with what I use remember if you go to an industrial supply store they will sell you a 12.5 bleach that is what I use when I buy my bleach I buy it straight 12 five I do not buy what they call house wash. House wash they sell is pre-deluded. Can do it cheaper yourself. Find an industrial supply store somewhere near you that sells pressure washing equipment. It’s where you’ll find your best information.

    I'd love to know how you all got these results..I have done my roof for the past 2 days yesterday with 10% SH from walmart and it didn't make hardly any difference..Today I went and bought 3 gallons of 12.5% SH from the pool and spa place and it didn't do any better than yesterday's did..I mixed it identical to the way you did but I used a 4 gallon backpack sprayer...It's a brown roof and has the dark black places on it and they just won't come off...

      My guess is it isn't the mildew like usual, but something else causing the black area on your roof. Shoot a little WD40 on a small area and see what happens. If that eats thru it, it is something else.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  3 года назад +1

      In my opinion you can’t be too hot I have had times where I have taken my 12.5 industrial bleach and used it straight with just adding soap. The house was badly stained the brown lines that you’re seeing should rinse off with a water hose. What that is is not from the bleach it’s from the dirt on the shingles. I would say give it a little bit more rents in that area. Like I said I don’t know where you get your bleach are use 12.5 bleach straight sometimes with one cup of soap. Some people use pool shock.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  3 года назад

      I would say the brown is truly just from vegetation leaves pine straw any vegetation that might’ve landed on the roof and deteriorated

    I followed the mixture instructions to the letter (1 gal water + 1 gal Clorox bleach + 8 oz. Dawn) and was not pleased with the results. I let it sit on the roof for 24 hours, then hosed it down and the results were disappointing. It took off very little of the mildew/mold. Our roof is very large and very steep so missing it the first time was a bummer. I ended up redoing the entire roof with no soap, just the 50/50 solution of bleach/water, and that worked great. I would suggest using less soap or none at all. Also, using a 4-gallon backpack sprayer (I used the $160 Black + Decker model) saves a lot of time.

I am getting a softwash system in a few weeks but plan on trying it this way on a few and also plan to use either Walmart Pool Bleach with 10.0 SH if I can't find SH less than 55 gallon drums . • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  3 года назад

      Well it does rain a lot in Florida. And that is only one way of doing it. The other way would be if you have plenty of water pressure and your roof is not real high you can stand on the ground and make it rain on your roof with your water hose. Or you can get up on the roof and rinse it down after you’ve applied the bleach. It’s my recommendation that you watch the weather and you do it the day before it rains. If you can walk on your roof you can wash your roof. This is Shingles not Tile not Metal Shingles only. And this is the recommended cleansing material the Owens Corning and all the other roofing companies suggest.
