3.16.24 Spencer Question: Could one mix up moss killer powder in a solution of water and spray onto the roof if the roof is of the steep kind? Would be interested in seeing what kind of powder that you come up with for sale.
I tried a roof like that today, brush didnt do anything, even tried a harder brush..had to literally pick it out. Maybe its too early, barely spring here.
thank you , great info.!!!! i rent and i have try to explain it to the landlord ,how the moss is a cancer to the roof.!!! but he has not done anything yet .!!! so far it been about a year . mayb he thinks it is expenive . really it is not .
Thank you. I have seen people dump that on the roof, and it looks worse than the moss. But you, my friend, have shown me the missing key. You wet it down and coat the roof. I have seen in this old house where at the top of the roof, they would lay down some kind of alloy sheet. Tuck part un the ridge cap, then install some screws and coat them with tar to keep leaks away. when it rains it will wash down the roof keeping moss at bay.
Which brush is it that you're using? Could you share a link for it. Also what is the name of the boots you're wearing? I used to live in Wa State and lots of people had those but I can't for the life of me remember what they're called. Thanks
I'm down in Eugene , per cleaning.. about 15 to 17% of what a replacement would cost.. and that's at 600/ square for new roof.. but won't get on a roof for less that 1600.00.. youd know this if you had proper insurance.
Oxiclean has a small amount of sodium percarbonate and not strong enough to be effective on roofs unless you buy a ton of it which would be very expensive.
It would be beneficial if you could provide a closer focus on the brush you are using, as there are numerous models available. This will allow us to better understand the specific brush you are employing.
Run lengths of copper tubing along the ridge line. You can hang it from both sides. The slow dissolving of the copper produces Copper Sulphate CuCuSo4 that kills the moss when it rains. Great for Cottages. Maintenance free.
What about spraying “Moss-out” lawn solution on the roof when there will be no rain for at least 2-3 days? Won’t that kill it and then be easily hosed off with a spray nozzle - or just let a hard rain wash it off?
Moss killer for lawns contain high levels of iron. This will leave permanent rust stains on hard surfaces such as concrete and your roof too! Chemicals and fertilizers from the garden section at the hardware store should never be used on the roof unless specifically indicated on the label.
I did one like this recently and WOW its amazing the amount of moss that end up on the ground/driveway that needed to be cleaned up. Don't forget to factor that cleanup time into your price!
My queries…I’m in the UK going to have the moss removed but can’t get it treated till spring as it’s too cold and wet atm how long till the moss returns ?
I find it easier to treat the moss when the moss is actively growing and when the weather is wet out. Just make sure to use a product that is safe for roofs( usual ingredient would be "ammoniated soap of fatty acids-MossOut brand). Don't use anything with Iron in the product! It will permanently stain your roof! After treated and the weather improves...you should be able to spray the moss off with a garden hose. Cheers!
Hey mate ! Really enjoy your content. There’s one issue I’m having with roof cleaning that j can’t seem to find much answers on. Here in Australia a lot of people down pipes are connected to public water ways which your not allowed to let any contaminated water run down. So when cleaning metal roofs etc and rinsing what’s your methods for this situation ? Do you take of downpipes and redirect water into garden ? Or pump out the water from the gutters into the garden ?. Would be great if someone could make a informative video on this ✌️
You’ll want to disconnect the downpipes and redirect them into the soil and away from plants until the chemical has been diluted and the water is clean enough to go into the drains. Vigorously water the area around the disconnected downspout runoff to help dilute the chemical and prevent plants and grass from damage.
Hey I have some questions about soft washing. What’s the best nozzle I should use? Also how much surfactant should I use for a 25 gallon mixture? Any recommendations for SH level on roofs? Thanks in advance and I apologize for all the questions.
Superb content, thanks Spencer. All you've talked about and demonstrated applies very much to our homes here on the Atlantic West Coast of Ireland..! With recent climate changes, poor summers and dull winters, it's become Moss Central..! Super helpful advice and info, just what You Tube is best for..! 😊👍👏
Hello Spencer, love your videos. I have a tile roof with a lot of moss but also have solar panels. What chemical is best to use on the tile roof to get rid of the moss while not damaging the solar panels? Would something with Sodiam bicarbonate work since bleach and other chemicals will damage the solar panels if they get sprayed on the panels by mistake or wind? Look forward to your expert response. thanks Anil
Hey Spencer, Im on my way to getting more jobs. I just had a question on business insurance, I just got mine for around 5k a year, big deposit and and hefty monthly bills. Am I on the right track brother?
Might work in America on the asphalt roof shingles but if you try walking on British clay tile roofs you will crack them with your weight and then the water can get in.
Same thoughts, also in UK. My pan tiles run on to an asbestos roof. Where the two roofs meet is a long lead flashing and the moss backs it up and causes heavy drips in the garage below. Tried copper wire on the roof which did nothing, so will try 15mm copper pipe. Will also give Bicarbonate of soda a go!
Hey quick question, do you find your customers prefer the powders vs a softwash? Just curious as I am in BC, but we will have water restrictions in summer and might only be able to go the powder direction.
Good question! Most people don’t really care. Just know that sometimes the powder can last a while if it doesn’t get rained on so in the summer some folks might not want powder up there for a few weeks
I believe I replied yesterday I get a ton of emails my bad! But yeah God tier is a one time $297 for the 1-1 call and the lifetime access to the books and courses
That tree your trimming is planted too close to the house. The rodents are going to climb up on the roof and chew their way through any vent - find and making their way into the attic.
Thank you so much for this video. Super helpful and well-presented. Your time and effort is most appreciated!
Appreciate that my friend!
So oxy clean?

You the man! Old school elbow grease. I'm going up on the roof now, thanks for sharing.
3.16.24 Spencer Question: Could one mix up moss killer powder in a solution of water and spray onto the roof if the roof is of the steep kind? Would be interested in seeing what kind of powder that you come up with for sale.
A length of copper tube along the ridge so the rain can wash over the roof from it will do the trick continuously.
Makes sense. This is a really great suggestion.
What brush?

So excited for that new product launch!!!
So helpful! I'll get my son to do this soon.
Have him wear a harness because it’s very easy to fall off a roof which can lead to death or permanent disability.
@@Jek2457 Yes, I agree.
What boots do you recommend for good grip on roofs?
romeos

Thanks for the video! I was wondering if you have a link to a brush that you would suggest using?
Spencer, I was directed here by the link in your emai. This video is so helpful. Thank you very much. At 68 I may not get on to many roofs. 😅
😂 Glad to hear that Bob! I won’t be up here forever either
Good pace and good info

Who would I call around my area to do a job like this what is your profession called
How about baking soda? It is basic, so I think it could work too.
That's literally what sodium bicarbonate is...
Hi, thanks for good advice! You mentioned bleach (chlorine?) How much do you dilute it when spraying the bleach on? Thanks!
I use a 2:1 ratio. 2 parts water to 1 part bleach(regular 5-6% sodium hypochlorite). I have a composition shingle roof.
I like that you're using the sodium percarbonate. What're your thoughts on citrus based cleaners?
I want to know this too.
Citrus cleaners are acidic,so I am guessing that would be counter-productive.
How about steep
A-Frame roofs my man - any suggestions?
Hey man! Love the videos! Get that money!
Do you use a soft wash bleach treatment on hidden gutter systems that are the rubberized membrane?
Great video! Oxiclean is less expensive than sodium percarbonate powder. Can I just apply oxiclean powder instead?
No lol.... it's more expensive for a reason, bucko.
Oxiclean has a small amount of sodium percarbonate and not strong enough to be effective on roofs unless you buy a ton of it which would be very expensive.
man that roof looks sooo much better
Hey!!! Thanks for content. You ever get afraid of falling through a roof?
A professional should be hired to clean the roof in order to avoid death or serious injury.
It would be beneficial if you could provide a closer focus on the brush you are using, as there are numerous models available. This will allow us to better understand the specific brush you are employing.
Do you only spread the powder at the peak and then let the water and distribute it downwards onto the lower parts of the roof? Thanks
You must coat the roof evenly. If its only on the ridge, it might be too weak to be effective by the time it reaches the bottom.
ivee heard alot and seen tv shows using zinc strip along ridge , they say this type of strip will prevent any furture moss , what is yr view on this
Can i use vinegar
He said raise ph. Look into baking soda
What kind of that roof tiles ?
How much did you charge for this one ?
How long after treatment does the residue finally fall away?
What kind of hose is that, looks very easy to use around, mine get stuck everywhere lol
What brush do you use?
Good video! If you did a vid going into how to get your business license and why you should get one would be cool.
Will do yeah have one planned! I just have a basic business llc roof cleaning isn’t a specialized trade
@@SpencerClaeys what kind of insurance you have for this business?
A contractor license with proper bond and insurance is required ..
Thanks.for.your hard work and good luck. Can .I know where u get that brush you use to remove moss. Am.doing.same job as you. Thanks
Any advice for roof tiles
Excellent Baking soda that's what I use cheap 13 pound bags out of Costco, or 50 pound bags from the farm feed store non toxic( NO herbicides )
Hi, can you explain hw to apply it? Thanks
Run lengths of copper tubing along the ridge line. You can hang it from both sides.
The slow dissolving of the copper produces Copper Sulphate CuCuSo4 that kills the moss when it rains. Great for Cottages. Maintenance free.
That's the method for rich people...or tweakers!😄
Good video ... Be careful walking backwards on a roof!!!
What kind of brush are you using
I got the book but not stragedy or how to create ads on facebook tho

Hey Spencer - excellent video !
I have a question 🙋♂️ what insurance company you have / specific wend you walk on roofs ?!
Thank you 🙏
You probably need to do some paperwork and get workers comp through the state.
Do you work in Washington State
did u come out with your product yet .
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing!

Tips for getting small stuff

Appreciate that my man thanks for the love! 💪
Are you concerned about bleach or oxyclean damaging ornamentals and vegetation in the yard?
Put a tarp on the ground where the debris fall and clean up will be a lot easier
Thanks, imma give this a try my guy
Looks good, Spencer 👍 Let's go #pnw! Basically, if it can be cleaned in the Pacific Northwest, it can be cleaned anywhere! 💪

Sodium percarbonate

Does roof moss damage the roof? I kinda like the way it looks. Oops. Never mind. Your video answered my question. :)
I kind of feel like that washes of after first rain

I thought treating it meant the moss doesn’t form for a few years
Who is here after watching ThatsGoodSports?
And my roof is a 11 pitch. I can’t or won’t walk on such a steep roof.
Sodium bicarbonate is just baking soda
nice but i love moss
Are you really suggesting working on the roof without a safety line ?!
Where is your Fall Protection? Walkable pitches are still dangerous. Otherwise thanks for the good info!
Health and safety idea, where strong none slip boots, and work of a ladder, is this guy insane.!!!!????🙀🙀

I'm sorry that I got fat. I will slim down.

I see you 😘
What’s going on??
I’d stand uphill of the water you spray. A slippery roof is not your friend!
How NOT to do it. Roofers say not to scrape the moss off. But most people don't know this and want the old moss scraped off.
