  • Watch as a student pilot experiences an engine failure and crashes during a solo flight in Connecticut. This intense video recreates the frightening moment of a plane crash.
Note: Due to issues with the recreation in the simulator the flaps may appear down when they were most likely not. (I will work on this in the future.)

N78445 crashed due to engine failure in the vicinity of Waterbury Airport (N41), Waterbury, Connecticut. The pilot was a student flying solo.

I was so hopping she would make the field and land. Back in the early 60's I took helicopter lessons and on my solo cross country, so many things went wrong. I got into Long Beach control and was called a "ding-a-ling" and then almost had a mid-air-crash with a Disneyland helicopter. It was dark when I got back to Burbank airport and discovered my radio malfunctioned. That was the short version of my flight that day. I did not fly after that. Thanks for posting.

Instructors in Connecticut and elsewhere SUCK, students and pilots are products of the instructors, the goal is to make money, you don't make money when you fail students, you make sure they graduate, it's one of the reasons small plane crashes and fatalities keep rising.
