- Today we have a build for Phoenix Wright and Mia Fey from Ace Attorney in Dungeons & Dragons. If your D&D 5e Party is committing a lot of crimes, maybe you should have a good lawyer.

"we're gonna fill Phoenix's gaps...just like Miles does off screen" SIR!
That certainly is one of the double meanings ever.
Hooray for gay lawyers!
I know it's a small thing but the way the clip panned over to Mia perfectly in sync with when you said "and Mia Fey" was mwah chefs kiss ten/10
Well spotted!
"To my knowledge, Phoenix isn't known to stab people?"
Nah, that's more a Godot power.
The "off-screen" joke halfway through made me double over cackling, i was NOT expecting it 🤣
Just started listening, and I'm already happy that you remembered Phoenix is nigh- indestructible.
"Nobody's lactose intolerant in Heaven, Krillin. That's why it's *Heaven*."

I miiiight use Mia's 10th level Magical Secrets to pick up Dispel Evil and Good instead of Banishment. If the goal is to perform an exorcism, Banishment won't actually work on a creature that's possessing another creature. Dispel Evil and Good, on the other hand, not only works like Banishment for ghosts, but you can also use it to protect yourself against supernatural beings *and* use it to *actually* exorcize a creature by ending a possession effect.
It’s pretty good for tending to a garden, too. Never know when you’ll have to prune some Dahlias.
@@neonal18 That was terrible. I approve.
*HOLD IT!* While both these builds are thematically fitting and effective for their purpose, the defense proposes that this still isn't perfect! *TAKE THIS!* [Counterspell]. Counterspell is a perfect way to symbolize calling "Hold it!" or "Objection!" to an enemy spellcaster and thematically fits better than Stoneskin as his Magical Secrets!
Now you might claim that Stoneskin is effective in symbolizing his sturdiness and the ability to survive almost anything; well to that I say *OBJECTION!* There are two things that can fulfill that purpose better: [Feat: Tough] + [Feat: Resilient - Con]. These two feats can easily replace the Wisdom ASIs that Phoenix received in his build and are both more thematically appropriate AND generally effective for the build than relying on yet another Concentration spell. In fact, Resilient: Con not only helps with saves against spells, but also helps him retain the very Concentration that this build heavily relies upon. (Note: [Feat: Lucky] is also an alternative option, like how sometimes two pieces of evidence are both correct options).
The prosecution might claim that Wisdom helps with Phoenix's skill checks but in fact, putting Expertise into Insight and Perception is generally sufficient and has a greater effect than a +1 to the stat! In fact, Phoenix has shown his relatively low Wisdom stat multiple times in the series such as trying to run across a burning bridge without thinking [case 3-5], having horrible Animal Handling [case 2-3], and failing multiple contested Insight vs Deception checks [2-4, 3-1, the flashback trial portion in Apollo Justice, etc.]. This isn't to say he would have a negative Wisdom, it's just clear that he isn't as wise as his peers! In fact, Mia often gave guidance to Phoenix whenever he misses a detail!
One could also argue that Glibness is an ideal way to symbolize the Turnabout portions of court cases, with Phoenix's unfailing Charisma checks, but this will require further retooling of the build as it will have to be Bard 15/Rogue 5 instead. But one less feat just for one specific 8th level spell? Yeah, I think the class distribution you made was already good.
In conclusion... I just wanted to pretend I was an Ace Attorney myself. I may have gotten too carried away just to simultaneously make a joke and give an alternative build path. Anyway, great vid nonetheless. I definitely enjoyed both giving Mia the same classes as Phoenix but with ghostly subclasses and the NaruMitsu sex jokes.
I'm glad we can all come together as a community and agree Edgeworth is a bottom.
I love when you make builds that aren't combat-focused, like these two or The Doctor. D&D is so much more than just fighting, and lots of players underestimate just how useful good RPing can be.
It also gives a lot of opportunity for the DM to build the campaign around the players' backstories. Like maybe Phoenix has to represent another player character after they get imprisoned by the Fey. In court. Seelie Court.
"He's like Bugs Bunny, if Bugs Bunny had a law degree" --> implying that he doesn't
As much as I would like to see other characters in the series, I assume most of them will be very similar
Maybe Franziska Von Karma, as it is at least confirmed she has a weapon... and it hurts... possibly more than her words
The sidekicks would be better. Maya Fey (probably still close to her sister, but definitely less lean into the diplomancer side), Kay Faraday, Trucy Wright, Ema Skye, heck you could even throw in Larry Butz if you used that super old Satire Bard UA.
Franziska's arguments are about as effective as Sae Nijima's interrogation techniques
I made a Pathfinder 1e character inspired by Franziska, a mesmerist with a whip. It was fun for the one-shot I played her for.
You're forgetting Simon Blackquill, the Twisted Samurai with a hawk.
Also, Miles Edgeworth would focus on intelligence over charisma though charisma would likely be his second most important stat after intelligence with wisdom being the third most important, with investigation and insight being his top two skills. He'd still be an inquisitive rogue (or perhaps mastermind rogue), but he'd likely either be a lore bard or a battle master fighter or samurai. Battle master though could be a way to have the chess mechanic from the 2nd Prosecutor spin off game be within the game, especially with the ability to choose to play ante-chess for your game of choice.
There's plenty of ways to differentiate between the different ace atternoys and even of Professor Layton.
The further into the video I got, the more I wanted to play these two. Love skill monkeys and if both these two are at a table then a party could enjoy pretty much any social encounter.
I thought this was going to be Phoenix and Maya for a moment then I realized it was Mia. Love the builds though. (Also Lawyer Bard Wrights! I mean Rights!)
I didn't even know these builds were coming but I've never been more excited for any others. 5:24 That joke was incredible though.
YES
YES
YES
if you play either of them you have to shout: "OBJECTION" whenever you roll a natural 20
I made Phoenix Wright a Bard with Divination spells to investigate and only doing damage using spells with vocal components.
Edit:I know he used it too, but I didn’t multiclass.
Tulok. You HAVE TO do my favorite character from Ace Attorney next. You know who I'm talking about...
*"FREEZE SCUMBAGS, IT'S THE CAAAAWWPS!!!"*
"The only thing on my menu is Dick... Gumshoe."
Yes, a double feature with Dick Gumshoe and Larry Butz, the two comic relief characters would be awesome!
@@caranostalgico9249
Impressive job, being an important part of the party as well as the plucky comic relief. But those two are it!
Now I know how to build the ultimate rules lawer! For justice, of course.
Phoenix fell off a bridge into a ravine and lived with no permanent damage whatsoever. My guy maxed out con asap.
You know, Sam Riegel voiced Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and in the two most recent Ace Attorney games. Sam's first Critical Role character, Scanlan Shorthalt, was a Glamour Bard, the College of Glamour being connected to the Feywild. The FEY wild. Also fey commonly assemble within courts, so now I _need_ art of Scanlan making a big OBJECTION while using Bigby's Hand to point.
choked on my drink when I saw this thumbnail; there's no fucking way you've pulled this off
EDIT: Son of a *bitch*
Love that mystery skulls reference
It's crazy Phoenix can catch Ezio from sneaking up on him
now lets see him against Arno, Altair, Loki, and whoever is the last sneaker for this roster
like straight up amazing if they somehow still get caught lmaooo
So funny story: I'm literally playing this build in my current campaign. Like we started a few months ago after I had to step down from DMing, and I'm playing Phoenix.
Funnily enough, there is kind of a career plan for a lawyer in DnD: ideally you can graduate as a Silverquill student in the prestigious Strixhaven University, to get a job as a Documancer in the Aquisitions Inc Adventuring Company, and from there the world is your oyster! *Okay Omin, I said the thing are we even now, right?
Oh my how intriguing!
Absolutely want this duo in my next game. The adventurers need capable lawyers!
Reading "silvery barfs" instead of "silvery barbs" made the experience so much better
My excitement for this video is so high that I can't HOLD IT!
I already have a Phoenix Wright chapter in one of my campaigns, but, I guess I could expand it... 🎲
on the tulok the barbarian channel we got:
ghosts
lawyers
ghost lawyers
we got everything
So excited to play as these two with my sister next time we play a game of DnD maybe.
A ghost lawyer is a lawyer who is a ghost, a lawyer ghost is the ghost of a lawyer. Korn explained this years ago
Really looking forward to this
"every GM gives the party sending stones"
Maybe it's just how I run games but I'm more of a "give the whole party bags of holding" GM so I don't have to deal with encomberance and because I love making my players think about what their character would do when they know something their character doesn't
Now that we got Phoenix Wright I’d love to see how you’d tackle Professor Layton! Excellent video!
I love this series and I’m SO glad they get some attention. First the Naruto build I’ve been waiting for for about a year and now this?! So happy!!!
Y'know, when you made the "X in Phoenix" joke, I was definitely expecting an Organization XIII reference. Great video!
Fuck yeah! Been slightly obsessed with Ace Attorney lately so this was great.
AAAAAH IT’S OUT I’M SO EXCITED
Nice job. Gotta love attorneys.
5:22 You didn't have to go for my boy like that
"We''re gonna fill in Phoenix's gaps, kind of like what Miles does off-screen" OH MY GOD?
With just a tiny bit of retooling, the first one could be a fantastic Benoit Blanc build. :)
So I love both builds, straight up wonderful for the attorneys. However, I would like to point out that Mia never was shown to do any level of channeling. She was also the *channelee* by either Maya or Pearls. ^^;
If I recall, Maya said that her channeling skills surpassed her own, so it's likely she is very skilled but we never got the chance to see it.
Mia was stated to be a stronger medium than Maya, with maya always living in her sister's shadow. Pearl is arguably stronger than Mia by sheer giftedness, but shes a one in a million from a branch family, rather than a proper member of the bloodline
Nice uses of OBJECTION!
About Reborn: There’s this game I played for the XBOX360 called “Lost Odyssey” where the main character (as well as others) are called Immortals in game. They apparently cannot die and now I am curious to see a build for one of them.
What if Phoenix was a Warlock and his Patron is his client? Like an Archfey who always gets into trouble with the Seelie Court. Get it? Court?
I was on a call with my dad when the notification popped up, and I screamed.
I am a fan of a Zone of Truth and Command combo. Zone of Truth can be cancelled out by the target simply chosing not to talk. However, if you ask a question then use Command and say "Answer", if they fail they are compelled to answer you and tell the truth if affected by the Zone of Truth.
Jesse Faden can charm enemies and tank like Phoenix, and talk to the dead and change her outfit like Mia
Edit: Oh shit. My bad. I genuinely forgot you'd already done a few of them. Gonna have to give them a look.
OG comment, for context:
I don't know if you take requests or suggestions, but it'd be cool to see Borderlands characters and their unique playstyles translated into D&D.
Especially given that the DLC from Borderlands 2 and the recent Wonderlands spin-off take significant inspiration from D&D, which already gives you some idea of how the characters could be adapted to fit the themes and classes.
OH Damn its december now! witch!
Um actually, let's Insert rules-lawer joke.
Ya know, Zone of Truth, Command and Speak with Dead would make a lot of court cases easy and almost pointless.
I was expecting to see clips of the game but the show works too. Also I just streamed this game on Thursday. Nice to see this build.
FINALLY! THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT BABY!!! WHOOOOO ROLEPLAY!
I need to build my Airbender Ninja Phoenix Wright.
I'm surprised he didn't do Pinky and the Brain build for December
OH FUCK YEAH, LET'S GOOOO
3 minutes in, I have no idea what you're talking about, but I'm going to keep watching anyway
calling it now, Phoenix is an Eloquence or Spirits Bard
OBJECTION!
Chainsawman and power (or aki, makima, maybe even kobeni)
We have a "cellphone" in my games but what is actually is a broken Sending stones. They never turn off, so if you are atuned to them you can hear everything the other person who is attuned says and what those around them say. But only the one who is atuned can hear everything that is being said.
Downside is it never turns off, so you are always hearing the other person. No matter what they are doing. They seduce the local bar maid you better unatune unless you want to hear all of that. Are they in a very noisy room? You hear it all too.
The trade up is though they don't have to explain everything to each other, that an npc says the party even when split is basically all on the same page as along as the two who are attuned are transferring the information
TAKE THAT
5:25 THE SHARP INHALE I DID
EDIT: 7:46 too omg
can... can you build Mr Crocker from fairly odd parents? i could see artificer ranger multiclass with all his crazy inventions and his hatred of fairies, feel like itd be a fun character.
nice
No objections
At start. Calling Investigator Rogue and Spirit Bard.
I'm calling eliquence bard.
@@agsilverradio2225
For the record. I’m call Spirit Bard for Mia.
Phoenix Level 3. Mia Level 7. Called it.
If you believe in yourself and with a tiny pinch of magic, all your dreams can come true
11:07 Lactghost intolerance!
Team Four Star would disagree with you on lactose intolerance following you into the next life.
No one is is Lactose intolerant in heaven, that's why it's heaven.
I really wanna know if making Unohana Retsu from Bleach is possible bc im stumped at splitting the cleric levels of healing with the Swordplay
Saul Goodman when?
5:24 YOU DID NOT JUST CALL EDGEWORTH A BOTTOM!!!!
They hated him for he told them the truth
Maybe make Popeye the Sailor Man if you haven’t already
Can you do Senku from Dr. Stone????
From the audio used for Phoenix's intro, the final duo build for December better be Jimmy and Mike.
Are you gonna do an update of Bayonetta and base her off of bayonetta 3
Use GURPS instead of D&D to build a character sometime, you'll not regret it. Plus, you'll never be able to take D&D's character builder seriously ever again.
“Play the piano poorly,” I mean he did get payed for it so he wasn’t that bad. Still, most of the money he used to raise Trucy came from counting cards
saul goodmen build when?
Fill in Phoenix's gaps like Miles does offscreen. Someone found the shipping forums.
Professor Layton build next?
Phoenix Wright with no counterspell just feels wrong
Try d4c
Why do you keep trying to fit round-shaped characters into the inflexible d&d mold? Shouldn’t you try something more flexible, like Wild Talents 2e? That has far more flexibility than D&D 5e, and also can be made to suit whatever character you want.
Please make a "How to play LIL' Sweet in D&D 5e". Ooooh yeeaaahhhh.....
Just make them necromancers.
OBJECTION!! If you think my case for a Tangle the lemur build from Sir Tulok (btw, please?) is a lost cause you have yet to know my resolve to see it a reality! I'm capable to anything, even calling a parrot or a wale as witnesses!
Phoenix wright is a young attorney that under the tutelage of Mia Fey is shaping himself to become the guardian of the innocent we all need, not even allowing the claws of death to stop this duo of defense at law to do their best, the Fey family have a supernatural force on their veins and the lineage have as much bravery to face the corruption of the law system as any adventurer you can summon to face a dragon. If you want to find the truth you have to be willing to face above your intended work challenges, but if you surround yourself with people as devoted for what is right they will cover your back when do destiny put you on the accused stand.
You should probably make these shorter, because even as a fan of your comments my brain shut off trying to read it. Mason managed to petition for the Anderson Cooper build because he was patient and didn't push it with every video.
@@itwasidio1736 much appreciated that you could consider yourself a fan of this mate, i can try to shorten them to please you, but it being for 2 characters make it hard to say even a nod widouth a wall of text (also the constant part of it is to support the channel with the algorithm)
Please do indigo Montano from the Princess bride
When is Saul Goodman coming?
Make Spear from Primal.
Claims Phoenix Wright doesn’t have damage.
Daggers are 1d4+5d6+Dex thanks to Sneak Attack.
walter white/saul goodmen?
I would swap charisma with wisdom and try to get insight high instead of persuasion,
Phoenix can't persuade his way out of a wet paper bag and has to prove everything he ever says at least 5 times before anyone even considers the idea
You should do Berk from Berk
First
