Saw this video a long time back and saved it. Really glad I did. I have a Franke Atessa so although slightly different the principles are the same. I spent more time trying to align the tap straight and grub screw in a very awkward position. Got there in the end - female senior citizen who likes to be independent, feeling pretty smug right now, thank you for this video, it was a great help! 😊
Nice one. You just saved me £300! The 'plumber' came and took a quick look at it, told me he'd have to replace the entire tap, 2 hours labour plus parts, couldn't do it for over a week. SO I took a deep breath and gave it a go! I happened to have a tiny hex allen key and a 17 mm spanner, and used lemon juice to clean instead of vinegar. Worked perfectly. Many, many thanks!
The same issue right now.. the plumber didn't attempt to change the valves even though I already have them ready to fit.. I had a go and changed the cold side in 5 minutes....but the hot grommet screw on the hot side has been rounded off by someone who fitted the tap... so looks like I wont have any choice but spend £300+
Nobody has commented for a while but this is still helping! I struggled to get the cartridge out. It has a 17mm nut rather than the 14mm you showed, and was absolutely solid. The cartridge does not protrude from the casing like yours, so had to get a socket on it, and the tip interfered with the drive for the socket, so had to be careful. However, having sprayed WD40 and leaving it for a while, it did come. When it came out the plastic inserts and seal were all left in the tap casing, so look carefully when doing it. However cleaned them all up, put in vinegar and reset and refitted and now all good. Thanks!
The drip is gone and sanity is restored!! Couple of slight differences with the tap but the principle was the same. Thanks for posting. Not all heros wear capes 🙌🏻
Adding another comment to say that the advice perfectly fixed our Franke mixer tap. Had a couple more disassembly steps, but the fundamental advice was spot on.
Did exactly what you did, albeit a little customisation for my tap version, and it worked brilliantly. I have earned at least 5 husband brownie points. Thank you and al the best for 2023.
Just watched your video and tomorrow I’m going to fix my dripping Blanco mixer tap. Thank you for your time posting this video. I’m a pensioner and determined to stop this dripping tap.
Hello, just discovered a leaking mixer tap and thanks to your tutorial think I can tackle this job. Thinking it might be a washer replacement but only washer I saw was the blue ring, like you said if that is deteriorated then find a replacement, but firstly do as you have done and see if that works. Thanks again for your video, before it's saves people hundreds of pounds according to the other comments.
Hi Dominic, huge thanks for posting this video. It’s not that I didn’t know how to remove a ceramic cartridge, but when the tap is positioned such that you can’t actually see into the tap fixing to know it for what it is, there’s always the risk of using the wrong tool and ruining the fixing. Having the understanding (on your kind advice) that a T8 is the right tool was absolutely marvellous😊 Thank you again, it was very much appreciated👍
Previously I've always replaced the cartridges but inspired by this video this time I stripped and soaked in white vinegar. I was sceptical as there really wasn't anything much to see in the valves. However..........MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! No drips. THANKYOU! 😁
Well done mate , my kitchen tap has been dripping for a couple of weeks. I did this and all good now . The tap is only 2 years old after a new kitchen fit out . They don’t seem to last very long now but I do live in a hard water area. Cheers
Saturday 11 May 2024 I have just managed to stop the leak in my tap following your instructions. Being a woman unscrew the cartridge was the difficult bit as I need it a bit of muscle strength but I managed at the end . Only vinegar worked for me when cleaning the cartridge bits a pieces . Again I was surprised as I could not see and scale accumulated in the cartridge . BIG THANK YOU . Great video Oh I forgot to mention also when I changed the cartridge I learned that I could change the direction of the close and open of the tap lever . Before the lever closing position was forward towards the kitchen sink , now the lever is backwards toward the wall , leaving me more room / space on the sink . I AM SO HAPPY !!!
Brilliant ..... straight forward video. Me female, in my 60s ........ had been putting off calling a plumber and the drip got worse and things got desperate!! Once I was able to isolate the water I relaxed. Wasn't hopeful with my ability but it worked!! Thank you so much.
My Frank's tap had been dripping for days & driving me crazy but I watched your video and followed your directions and the problem is now solved! So thank you so much for your help!
Excellent !!! Thank you PERFECT DEMO!!! NO BACKGROUND NOISE/ CLEAR & STRAIGHT TO THE POINT / and IT WORKED!!! Plus non of his life history. 😂 Many thanks Mrs Mx
Was very sceptically to whether this would work as had read and watched various tutorials about how I’d need to change the washer…… but WOW! Worked an absolute treat. I would advise anyone to try this method first before trying anything else.
Amazing, thank you so much! Like other stories, a plumber took one look and said we should go back to the supplier - which would be just pain and hoops. For me it was that blue washer on the end of the cartridge not sitting flush, but was skewed and creating a gap. I reseated it, screwed the cartridge back in, and the drip is sorted!
Very many thanks. You've saved me a big bill from the plumber! Our FRANKE Zurich wasn't dripping but it was making one hell of a racket whenever the washing machine was in use or we used our outside tap. It sounded very much like an air horn going off, it was that loud. I'm guessing it was some weird sympathetic vibration thing going on. Anyways, I followed your guidance, dismantled the cold tap & dunked the internal gubbins in vinegar & bicarb. Put it back together & perfect silence. Bliss!
Having watched the video I did not believe this could possibly work. I felt sure I would have to buy a new cartridge. I'm amazed to say I followed it and it worked. Thank you so much for posting this excellent video.
That was an excellent video. Haven't tried it yet, until I check for the right tools, but it seems amazing to solve this problem just by cleaning, rather than replacing washers etc.
Thanks very much for your video. Our tap was leaking and followed your instructions exactly and I can’t believe I’ve done a plumbing job that has worked. Over the moon thanks to your brilliant video. Thanks again
Just wanted to say thank you for this video! Have been putting up with our kitcheb tap for too long and you have given us the step by step to get it sorted! Thank you!
Thanks for posting this. It worked for me as well. Didn't realise how much dirt and other bits can build up inside over the years. My Franke tap is a different model but the logic was the same
Have just been through this step by step and I seem to be drip free. After the first attempt I still had a very slight drip so I took it all apart again and and it’s seems to be ok now. Very good video mate, well done 👍🏻
Many thanks for the video - gave me the confidence to try this myself on a different Franke model, and it has worked (even without the sonic scrubber thing!).
Thanks really helpful. Just a couple of points. I suggest always putting the plug in the sink before removing the grub screw, in case it falls off the screwdriver as you remove it and vanishes down the plughole! Also worth pointing out that not all Franke taps use the T8 screw, mine needs a hexagonal Allen key, which was supplied with the spare cylinder (which now I may be able to return to the shop thanks to your video!).
Great video, good audio and step by step instructions.Anyone who has arrived here is thinking about fixing taps themselves/diy without calling a plumber and costs involved.Thankyou for taking the time to upload this guide. As always someone has a better idea..zzz why would someone so skilled search out this topic? they don't need to learn how to fix a tap they know how to do this already.
Hi. Thanks for this. Worked a treat, once I got it out. Used penetrating fluid plus boiling water and a long handled socket! Then followed your advice and all is well.
Thought I'd try this but didn't really have too much hope, but hey! it worked. I'd guess hard water had an effect on my kitchen taps which are only 3 years old but have massive use. Many thanks.
Thanks for video. I have a tap similar to the one in the video but that doesn’t have a screw on the tap/lever. Just wondering how I would remove the tap in that case??
Thanks for this. One problem I came across was that my tap had no grub screws, just the central brass screw. The tap handles were very firmly stuck but your video gave me the confidence to use force, in the right direction. It was just a case of getting the splines to let go. I took out the central screw from each side and squirted WD40 very carefully down the holes. A few judicious taps with a nylon-tipped hammer and the taps came off!
After watching this and realising there are no washers but the cause of the drip was dirt or debris between the plates I tried a quick fix. I violently threw the tap on and off quite a few times in order to dislodge anything. This worked perfectly and now the tap does not drip. So worth trying first 😂 I also determined it was the hot side before trying this.
Bicarb and white vinegar when mixed neutralise each other and create water. The only action you will get is the fizz which by its action may remove any loose bits but chemically it won’t dissolve limescale. Just use white vinegar or lemon juice. Apart from that excellent video 👍😁
Thank you, this worked brilliantly great walkthrough. Not a criticism, just a thought to mention trying the cold water first as that may likely (I don't know) be where the issue builds up first. I did both taps, did the trick.
Excellent video.... worked. Also helpful if you do need to remove cartridge for either hot or cold. Had vinegar but unfortunately no bicarb. But the process of taking it out, cleaning and soaking vinegar seems to have worked. Thanks.
AFAIK the brass parts only provide the turning aspect of the tap. The 'seal' (and cause of drip?) likely to be the two ceramic disks. These need to be spotless. Thanks. Useful.
So frustrating..... spent 3 hours trying to sort this (including taking the whole tap out because I couldn't see or feel the grub screw). Didn't realize you could disassemble the discs, ordered a new valve under warranty. Am now waiting for that to come........ in the meantime google must have been listening to my expletives and this link comes up when I opened youtube tonight. That is scary and worrying. But this video is great. I will check the old valve when the new one comes......
Have a very similar type to this but cannot get the cold side to come out had a big spanner on it and it does not look as though it comes out, so trying to access the hot tap side and the small allan screw is very tight only turns half a turn easily. My tap has a chrome cover next to the lever exposing the main cartridge body. waiting on a plumber to quote and no doubt he will charge for the whole cartridge. live in a hard water area although we have a water softener so expect evidence of limescale if I manage to strip it. but this was a very good video depending on the quote i may be coming back to this. Spare cartridges range from £5 to £15 at screwfix depending on diameter and length of the splined shaft for the handle
I’m having the same problem and following how it is easy it is in the videos and as mentioned in the comments, I will give it a go. But how do you know which tap should be opened? You opened the right hand side one, rather than the left.
Mate I owe you a beer. 3 plumbers merchants shook their heads saying it wasnt a standard size and that I should just replace the tap. So i marched off to Tesco and got some white vinegar and bicarb, and "Bobs your Aunty's live in lover", Im popular in the house again!!! Thank you so much!👍
Worked perfectly, thanks for the guidance. Walking around like I just put a new roof on the house. ;-) Great video.
Glad i could help.

'plumber' yes charge more than brain surgeons.

Always like honest workmen , you can count on them 😳
Plumber can charge what they like . Some time I feel really angry they can be so dishonest just to charge more .

Does it matter which side the hot tap or cold tap?
@@6Murphyhi, did you figure out which side to open? I’m facing the same dilemma

Excellent video! A few differences for the model of tap we have, but the basic principles were the same, worked a treat!
This worked for me, brilliant, took half an hour and saved a £60 visit from a plumber! Thanks a lot for sharing!

thanks for this. just followed but cleaned out the cartridge with a hard handbrush and the results were perfect 👍🏽
I just fixed my tap ( looks identical) and never had previous experience in plumbing - Big Thank You 👏

Hi, just followed your instructions to fix a Bristan tap. Tap fixed. Thank you for taking time to post this video.

Thanks for this video. As an absolute amateur it took me ages and I needed to get all the right tools. With your help I did it! 🎉

It's been 2 days since I fixed my tap. For whatever reasons, it worked. thanks mate:)
Thankyou for an excellent, clear and helpful presentation. Helped me repair my tap.
Cleaned it up and need to replace saved me time and effort buying a new one.
Brilliant video. Simple straightforward instruction and descriptions. Thanks so much. Ive also used citric acid to descale the taps😃
Brilliant! Thank you so much. Fixed my tap! That vinegar and soda trick is great. 🎉❤
Thankyou so much for showing me how to do it. My leaky tap was driving me mad and i've fixed it!

Thank you, very informative video. Saved me a trip to the plumber.

Why would the cold tap be the most likely culprit ?
Excellent video.... worked. Also helpful if you do need to remove cartridge for either hot or cold. Had vinegar but unfortunately no bicarb. But the process of taking it out, cleaning and soaking vinegar seems to have worked. Thanks.
Excellent! Just fixed my dripping hot tap. Thanks for the great tutorial 👍
Is it the same process for the hot tap?
@@stevecooper5951 yes, that’s what l did
This video was spot on thank you!
Brilliant, thanks for that, this is on my job list for tomorrow 👍👍
Tried it worked. Had problem putting it back together as the video doesnt show it properly but got it at the end.
My mixer tap was identical to yours so just fixed mine. Easy to follow instructions. Brilliant. Thanks very much
Very clear and helpful, thanks.
Thank you I found when I took the ends off the nut was unreachable. I found that by twisting the side parts they also un-done allowing access
Do you have to do both sides ? Or just one side of the tap?
So i didnt even clean mine as it didnt look dirty i just took it apart and put it back together again. Seems to have worked. Thanks for the vid 👍
Hi thanks for a great video. I cjanged the valves in the tap but its still dripping any ideas?
Amazing video😊 thanks for the tips, really helped a lot

Thanks buddy, I have no DIY skills but armed with this video I’ll be able to hopefully get 5his annoying drip to stop.
Works a treat now, thanks for your very helpful advice.
This worked a treat! Thanks so much for sharing!
I am glad it Helped.
Good video thanks the only problem I had was the T8 grub screw on my tap was T9, fortunately I had both.
Fab video. Thanks! Wouldn't dare try it but great viewing. Will re-watch... Wonderful!!

I followed this and it worked, so thank you. But there's no need to remove the metal clip.
Great vid, stripped mine down gave it a quick clean just using a brush and it worked a treat. Thanks 😊👍
Thanks for this; one question that I have is how do I know if it is the hot or cold that is causing the drip? thanks

Just a query, why would it still drip if both valves have been replaced. This is my current situation 😔
Thank you so much!👍
Just did this and worked perfectly - thanks!
my tap is dripping slightly from under the cold lever when is in use. any ideas ? 💡 🤔
