I had the same issue as a few others below where I couldn’t get the handle off. Don’t underestimate just how sticky this can get. In all the videos it just slides right off, but this step can actually be a lot of work. I had actually screwed the little screw right off with the Allen key and it had fallen into the inside of the tap and it still wouldn’t come off. I was bouncing back and forth between wondering if I’d really got the screw off and thinking that maybe my tap was different than the ones in the videos in some way. The comments below encouraged me to just use more force which did actually work. For anyone wondering, I used WD40 and a LOT of force. I thought I might even break it but was beyond caring! By moving the handle from side to side with considerable force it popped off after about a minute. I replaced the cartridge with one I picked up so Bunnings for 20 bucks and it’s working perfectly. Hope this helps anyone else struggling with that first step.
@@wushoo That's unfortunate but probably the only way forward. I'd reached the point where I was so angry at the time that I wouldn't have minded if it broke!
Had to get the multipliers around the tap handle, with a soft cloth not to scratch it, to get it off. Felt like it was welded on after 11 years of gunk buildup inside there. Thanks for the to-the-point video 👍👌
Fair dinkum Bill all these little tips go straight into the brain-pan and when I'm called on for minor repairs by my grown kids, the grandkids ask, "Hey Grandad, how come you can fix anything?" "Because I'm a genius that's why."
Thanks Bill! Legend. For an older mixer that has been in use for a while, suggest a screwdriver for levering mixer off and pilers for removing cartridge. Cheers
Yes, true. I've been at this place (in Poland) I've been renting barely 7 months and during this time the whole cartridge needed replacing twice. In UK, all I had to do was change the rubber seal perhaps once every 5 or 6 years if that.
2 tips as well - 1. put never-sieze or vaseline on the new tap threads thats saves them bonding/corroding when scum gets in there (and it will). 2. If you have high water pressure get a tap that says it can handle the said pressure, i have had a few fail quickly because of the high pressure OR install a PLV (pressure limiting Valve) which is the best bet - 350kpa is a good option. i did this for the kitchen tap, needed 2 valves (1cold, 1 hot) plus i put stop/shutoff valves under the sink so didn't have to turn off the mains to change the mixer.
Wow, thank you. The only thing that I could not see is the two holes at the back, it looks like three holes to me. But will find out when I unscrew the tap. I usually take a photo so I don’t forget or lose it. Many thanks again. You saved me lots of money!
Thank you as always Bill. You are a bloody legend mate! Shit after I typed this I read the comments below. Oh well it's now duplicated, and it will stay..
It’s great! The fact that I have been watching your awesome how to’s & now want to go look for things to go fix! Super that you { soothingly} have taken the time to teach so much! Saved most all & subscribed & sent to my girlfriends so they can too! Thank you truly!
After removing the old cartridge I noticed the cavity started to fill slowly with water. I replaced with new cartridge but water still seaps out. Is the entire mixer tap stuffed?
Any suggestions to get the top part of the tap off? I've taken the screw out completely, tried WD40 in and around the tap and some not-so-gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet but it just doesn't want to budge. I only have an occasional slight leak at the moment so I've just been living with it but I imagine I'll have to sort it out at some point.
For £20 you could just replace it..but if you’re desperate to save a few quid, try a cloth and some grips, work it clockwise and anti-clockwise to try and free it or you can also use a strap wrench, very good for no damage removal….and more wd-40 or similar…good luck!
Hey Bill. Any tips on how to reduce water hammer in my pipes? I've been looking at the Douststop Anti Hammer Water Control Valve at Bunnings but I'm not sure if it works or if its just a gimmick. Cheers
Hey Bill - if you take requests, I'm having troubles with my sach windows (they have the springs not the counter weights). Also wondering about best way to service the toilet which is getting backed up a couple of times a week, but doesn't appear to be 100% blocked. I was thinking of trying drain cleaner.
I usually don’t work on sash windows particularly older timber windows as many times the timber is rotted at the base and gives me too much work for a small job. They spirals can be adjusted from the base of the window by unscrewing the plate and twisting it as needed. Regarding the toilet most likely an issue with the sewer and may need to be cleared with a better . Sounds like possible tree roots👍

I had to use a bit of force as well... but in my case the faucet body broke in half.
Oh well, it's time to replace the whole thing 🤷♂️

@skywalker_sr Yeah, same here.
To be honest, my tap was a cheap one. Replacing the cartridge would cost almost as much as the tap itself 😉
Which alen key has been used to open the top part. Can anyone tell
Awesome to know as mine is doing exactly as everyone had described so I will persevere. And yes I have the WD40 in hand.
Was feeling apprehensive about doing it myself but you made it soo simple. Thankyou for encouraging me to give it a go. Job done😊
Thanks alot, once i got what i needed i had this job done in 5 minutes.. who knew after months of an annoying drip it would be so easy to fix
You’re welcome 👍
The plumber was askin for 20 bucks and I fixed it myself..thanks for the free and easy job 👍🏻✅

Perfect timing. Have a the exact one in my kitchen with a leak. Will save me a bit of $ and do it myself

Thanks Bill for this awesome video, so insightful and useful. I dig all your videos.
Glad I can help people diy and save some money 👍
Brilliant 👍 I have often wondered what I would do the day my mixer starts leaking 😳 Now I'm not worried at all 😉
Thanks Bill! Legend.
For an older mixer that has been in use for a while, suggest a screwdriver for levering mixer off and pilers for removing cartridge.

Great video as usual. It’s quite criminal for these whole cartridges to need replacing instead of just that tiny little three ringed seal!

I had no idea that this was possible, thank you so much for this how to video.
Thank you for this! Would have had no idea how to attempt this without the video. Appreciate it

The three larger holes are what the cartridge seal up against. The two smaller divots at the back will be to position the cartridge correctly 👍
@@billshowto Thank you so much. All fixed and going without the dreaded drip!👍
Thanks Bill, I have those exact taps in my house, None of them leak thankfully but if they do I will know how to fix them. 👍
Not as common as regular tap washers but now you know just in case 👍
Thank you. I can fix my tap this weekend now
Thank you so so much you have saved me hundreds $
You made it so simple a task that really scared me was completed in no time at all 👍👍
As always thanks Bill saving us all money. Cheers!
We all need the extra money these days 👍

Thanks Bill, no need to get my plumbers licence now!

Good timing Champ 🏆 Thanks for the help.
You’re welcome 👍

This was really helpful, thanks
Top job again Bill…thanks heaps.
You’re very welcome 👍
Keep 'em coming Bill. Loving the vids brother!

Another very useful video, thanks Bill
Legend! Always wondered about my mixer! I’ll do it myself now. Cheers 🍻

thanks Bill....another good vid mate
Hot dayum, you rock! Thank you for the clear and concise instructions! I've liked and subscribed :)
Thanks Bill, very helpful!
Good on ya mate. It really helped me fix mine. Cheers
It’s easy to do it a brand new one, however, after years and years of usage it becomes very difficult to open

Another tip is always have the plug in the sink or bathtub so nothing falls down the drain.
Lol very true👍
I was looking for this comment before adding it. Those hot/cold caps are specifically designed to pop out and down drain holes 😂
So good now I don't have to call a plumber to repair my mixer tap yaaay !!!
Great video... that coloured sticker was definitely horizontal at the start though 😂
Bill, you should do a bloopers video 🤟🏽
Lol trust me there is more bloopers than actual footage.
Thank for the tip
do we need to turn off the main water
Nice one, I too have that tap. Not leaked as yet but if it does.......
You’re all sorted👍
Another great vid 👍🏽
👍
Thanks Bill sorted easy!
Great video 👍👍👍

Hi Bill, how do you adjust a kitchen mixer tap that slowly falls down and turns off?
Replacing the cartridge will also resolve this issue 👍
@@billshowto thanks Bill I will source some!
Excellent, thank you.
having problems here. where is that small screw that attaches the handle? I cant remove the handle😫
Behind the little plastic cap that is red and blue.
Use floss!
Thank you so much

Thanks Heaps!
That spanner name please
Thanks
Can this be done without turning the water meter off?
If you have a shut off valve under the sink you can shut it off from there. If not you will have to turn the main water supply off 👍
thanks.
cheers mate
Thanks mate,
Which instrument to use it
Did you use a Hex Key set to undo the top part of the tap?
Depends on the style of tap, could be hex, flat or Philips 👍
@@billshowto Hex did the job. Thanks. Video was very helpful.
Merci👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👍👍👍👋👍👍💥
The demo was good however in reality not simple to do. The cartridge lever broke & l had to turn off the mains water & arrange a plumber for Monday.
You can easily replace the whole tap for $30. I have a video on this also👍

Trying to change it now the bloody handle won't jiggle out after I removing screw with allen key??
Could have a bit of gunk built up. Just wiggle it side to side slowly from all angles till it comes loose
Thanks for the info
