Thank You Sir for helping me save SGD200, I paid SGD6 for the cartridge instead of getting a plumber to install a new tap as recommended by the Hardware Shop. Really Greatful to You
Thank you - very helpful. The small allen key set screw only needs to be loosed a little and there was a lot of friction on the cartridge - Mine needed some extra "encouragement" to be removed :) - New cartridge installed and no more leaky faucet!
His AnnM - this is the best video on this topic I have seen so far. Like all things do-it yourself, they never go easy, and I was having a hell of a job to get the grub screw out. Its so hard to see inside the hole. Your tip on just loosening it enough, may be all that I need. Thanks
After watching this I realise I should be able to fix my own tap. Also great to see this advice from a fellow South African (can recognise the accent anywhere), so you know it's the same types of tools and parts we have locally, and call them the right names locally too. Definitely subscribed, thank you for this video!
@@r0j0e agreed, I think it was Linnaeus who said words to the effect that if there are 2 explanations for a phenomenon the simplest one is more likely to be correct 😊👍
Very well narrated. Lots of useful tips. My only minor nit (common to almost all these tap videos) is not to show folks who don't know, what a 'Grubb screw' looks like by itself.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!!!! Saved me $100. Tried the whole hose thing, nothing. Then moved on to the faucet head. The hot water side was completely clogged! Moved in our house in fall 2020. Had the issue since then and upset I took this long to try and resolve it. Lol much appreciated!
Thanks for this video. One extra piece of advice for anyone refitting a new cartridge - I could not get my cartridge to fit which was apparently due to the rubber ring seal around the cartridge that I had. Had to call my friendly plumber who put some silicone grease on this rubber ring and - hey presto job done!!!
Thanks for your video. I got as far as taking the red/blue button out, and it crumbled. I believe the tap is about 10 years old. I have had a look inside to find the grub screw - it looks very furry. Should I just get the tap replaced? It is in a shower, with no isolator, and in a difficult position. I have seen a replacement unit at Reece’s plumbing, so I know there should be a straight replacement.
Good info thanks. I wonder why they dont make a tap reseater for this size as whatever I do I can't stop it leaking which I guess is limescale. Tried cleaning but still happens.
You are welcome. I personally have not had good results with tap reseaters on conventional taps. CLR scale remover has worked for me in the past if it is a scale problem?? Good luck!👍😊
@@AnnErasmus I assume thats the issue. The original cartridge had a crack. Perhaps I haven't tightened it enough but didn't want to over do. Will take it apart and have a look again. Fun!
Tricky one. All I can think of is to wrap some silicone tape around first to get a grip then try your strap wrench on top of that. Gentle heat (hair dryer/heat gun) may also help. Good luck.😊👍
First thing to check is that you have turned the hot water isolation valve back on. Sounds obvious but that happened to me once, that's why I mention it. Next I would check that the handle grub screw is engaging the lever of the cartridge correctly. That means the cartridge lever and tap handle should be in the 'off' position when you tighten the grub screw. If that doesn't help take out the cartridge and check that the hot and cold openings are working correctly as you move the lever (see video). The only other thing I can think of is that the cartridge is not lining up with the holes in the tap housing correctly, either due to the cartridge not being orientated correctly or not the right cartridge for the tap. I hope these suggestions will help, if not time to call in a professional, good luck 😊👍
@AnnMatt Erasmus hey thanks for the quick reply. Not sure where I read in the comment section but someone suggested that there might be an air bubble in the hot water line and to run the kitchen tap and wash room tap to heat the pipes up. I turned the main water off and ran the hot water for a while. Not sure exactly how I fixed it but we got hot water going through the shower now. Lucky cause my next step was ringing the plumber. Thanks again.
Probably time to call a plumber but here are a few suggestions, try taking the handle off the tap and operate the lever of the cartridge by hand, if it turns off like that then the tap handle and cartridge are not connecting properly . Also check the brass ring is fully tightened ant that there is no movement of the cartridge relative to the tap. Other possibilities are:- a faulty cartridge or a damaged or dirty seat of the tap. Hope this is of some help, good luck.
Thanks for your video , lots of help there I have managed to change the original cartridge to an universal blue one like in video but now I get only warm water and not hot from the mixer why is that , any help will be appreciated
Not sure but it could be a leak at the silicone seal between hot and cold zones. Perhaps try tightening the brass ring a bit, if that doesn't help open it again and check for damage or grit on the washer or the taps seat? Hope this is of some help, good luck 👍
@@AnnErasmusyes I will open the tap and see , just incase there is some debris or grit near the washers or the cartridge is probably faulty as purchased from local DIY store
Not sure what you mean by filter. Are you referring to the filter aerator at the end of the spout or the cartridge inside the tap housing under the handle?
First try tightening the cartridge down slightly (careful not to over tighten).if that does not help then remove cartridge and check the rubber seal for dents, scratches or tears. Also check the seat of the cartridge in the tap for damage or debris eg calcium scale build-up. If all looks good then lubricate rubber seal and reassemble a very slow leak will sometimes stop after few days. Occasionally one does get a faulty cartridge which will need replacement. I hope this is of some help, good luck😊👍
I have a trouble by taking off the first screw because with my tap now with the plat screw (Not PHILLIP HEAD & ALLAN HEAD Screw) but already turned by the previous plumper (Repairer). So now it is very difficult to complete the first step. The work must be stopped right there. Please give me any advise . Thank you very much HENRY 0411 139 099.
This is a difficult situation. Best to call a professional who may have specialised tools to deal with it. All I can suggest is to spray with light oil or silicone then put the screwdriver in the stot and give it a very small tap before turning. But be careful not to damage the tap or plumbing connections. Good luck 😊👍
@@AnnErasmus Yes I had the same problem. Allen key just spun in the grub screw which appeared to be very tight.. Looks like I will have to cur the tap off.
