Al, just wanted to say that you're a star and a lifesaver all rolled into one. I'm sure I speak for the majority on here in saying that your videos have got us all out of a few sticky situations. The least I can do is say thank you, much appreciated and keep up the good work. I watch all your videos regardless if I have that problem or not. All very informative. Thank you.
This is perfect. Great guide. My current home has a gooseneck style mixer tap on my kitchen sink and I've never replaced a washer (or cartridge) on these types of taps before, thus I didn't know where the washer was located. I didn't even know in these types of taps they're called "cartridge". Your video has given me a good guide on where to start. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you ! i stared at our little water filter tap for days trying to figure this out. It didnt have the little grub cover it was sealed there, but i finally figured out that you unscrew the little stick handle and hidden behind it is the allen key grub screw which dis-assembled the whole thing like you then show. You got me started with this vid thanks again! legend!
Thank you for this video which completely demystified how these taps work. I followed your directions and was able to replace the faulty cartridge with a new one from my local hardware store.
Thank you so much for giving us such useful information. I had my tap leaking for months and couldn't figure how to fix it. I knew it needed a washer replacement but didn't know how to access it. Because of your this video I fixed it in 10 minutes. Thanks a bunch 👍🏼
Well done dear. So professional, and still presented in such a friendly and down to earth manner. I learnt to now fix these types of kitchen taps. God bless you and your family. Raymond Lobo
Thank you from San Francisco! The lever on our kitchen sink faucet gradually became super stiff to the point that I was considering extending the lever, ha. Then I found your video so I opened it up and removed the cartridge and put it back in and now somehow without me having done much the faucet works perfectly again. I don't know exactly why but I'll take it! And thanks again! And for anyone else coming this way, the allen screw wasn't visible for me, it was pointed straight down. I just tried different allen keys until I found the right one by feel. It was either the 2mm or 2.5mm allen key that did it.
I was going to change the cartridge on my Mirabelle Ravenel, with cartridge MIR507348N because of dripping. There is not much clearance with the sort-of ball joint and handle that rotates on it, so crud like limescale and food crud can build-up in that area, preventing complete closure of the handle. I doused the area with glass cleaner and wiped 4-5 times, and the handle was able to close more tightly and that eliminated the dripping. This is an excellent video if in fact the cartridge needs changing.
My tap needs sorting, its gone stiff I cant change from hot to cold easily, rather than leaking but this was helpful. I might get away with some lubrication perhaps but if not its a new cartridge if i can get one. Thank you for your wonderful video.
I used 2mm allen/hex key from a set in bunnings. But I should've bought the cartridge repair kit, it comes with an allen key, also used a 30mm adjustable wrench to repair a kitchen mixer tap (I think the nut measured 28mm). Remember bois/gals, you must screw on the nut super tight, have a stream of cold water running to test as you tighten.
Found your video and thought it's not as complex as I first thought, but on closer inspection the little plug to give you access to the Allen screw holding the lever on is non existent in my tap?? Back to the drawing board for me but when I do finally get inside I won't be worried by what I find now thanks for the video 👍
Of all the tap designs, those are the ones that I hate the most. The retaining ring hex can be so thin that when they seize up, they are really easy to crack or round off. I'd always advise to get twin head mono mixers.
The plumber wanted $50, to do this, plus parts. TRUST ME, If I can do it, ANYONE can, Ten minutes max, and most of that was figuring out the right allen wrench size. Super easy.
Thanks for sharing. I notice you don't use any plumbers tape on the locking nut. My tap leeks at the lever, I'm just wondering if that's the problem or that the cartridge locking nut has not been tightened enough.
Great video. I notice it is a VIMMERN Tap from IKEA. Does anyone know the specifications of a replacement cartridge, it's not on the IKEA website as far as I can see.
Hell. nice video. Thank you. Is this the Jeroni Swan tap by Pegler? Looks very similar. Our's is and it is dripping from half way down where the neck screws into the mount. It was a push fit and wasn't right from the minute the plumber fitted it. If I could I would take out the Blanco sink that comes with a pre-drilled 35mm hole and put in plain pillar separate taps. noithing wrong with the sink but there is not enough room to drill holes in it.
Thanks for the vid - have successfully swapped out the cartridge following a leak however, I'm still getting a slight leak. I've tightened the retaining nut but to no avail. Any advice from the group very welcome.
If you have a combi boiler then the hot goes off as well. I f you have an F and E system then you will have to turn off the cold feed to the cylinder. Normally a red handle gate valve next to the cylinder.
Camera upgrade? I noticed a big step up in video quality. Your other videos were always abit blurry, even when watching in HD, I didn’t want to say anything and sound rude! Now it’s spot on 👍🏻 Thanks for the video too, we’ve got the same kind of kitchen tap, got it from Aldi a few years ago, still going strong with no drips, great to know how to sort it out should it start dripping 👍🏻
Hi there,I have a tap similar to this except the spout looks like a spring/slinky and can be moved about as a spray. Water has begun spraying out of the bit where the spout meets the solid section shown in this video. Do you happen to have any advice or videos on how to fix this? I can’t find any way to open the tap up to see inside. The model isn’t clear but it looks like the Deva Slinky 118. Thanks a lot
I have a two spout, two handled three way mixer tap (hot cold & filtered cold) (filtered cold comes out small spout, hot & cold flows through large mixer spout) when I turn on any of the taps a small stream of water comes out the opposing spout. Would replacing the cartridge fix this?
Am I right in thinking that turning the mains water off won’t stop the hot feed to the tap if you have a hot water storage tank fed from the cold storage tank in the loft, unless the cold tank is run dry?
@@dereton33 Hi - we have a Smeg IMOLA single lever tap and the lever will not come off (the little screw is easily removed). We would be extremely grateful for any assistance please. Many thanks in advance x

It is still performing well, I did not have to change the cartridge in this tap I was just using it as a demo on how to do it. There was nothing wrong with it.
I have a single lever mixer tap. It's not dripping. It seems to be working well. However, when I turn the hot water valve off, some cold water still comes out of the hot side. And when I turn the cold water valve off, some hot water still comes out of the cold side. Not much, but some. Is that normal? Or is the mixer valve supposed to completely separate hot and cold? In other words, with the cold water valve shut off, should there be no water whatsoever coming out of the cold side?
@@dereton33 thanks very much. I'll take a look at it now. The frustrating thing is that the tap and sink were just replaced a few months ago. I guess the cartridge was faulty, or maybe they installed it wrong.
