      Aren’t they awesome?! Which ones do you have?

      @@jaclynbaerart I have one Folio (which I've been afraid to fill 😂) and four of the original Pocket Palettes: three pre-filled by Expeditionary Arts and one I made for myself when I was going to Alaska, like you did when you went on your trip this summer. I don't have any of the demi size.
      I recently bought some watercolors from Letter Sparrow, and she used Pocket Palettes for those, so that added one regular size (split primaries) and one Folio size (ALL in the DOUBLE-sized pans, which I completely LOVE!) of earth tones, which is my new favorite palette.
      I keep one of her Pocket Palettes with the spritzer, a syringe for refilling, and a waterbrush tucked into its little bag in my purse for all my Emergency Watercolor Needs. 😉

    • @jaclynbaerart

      The sound of your watercolor collection makes me so excited for you!!! I haven’t heard of Letter Sparrow watercolors and I immediately looked it up. Wow they are pretty! I like that you have double pan sized of the natural colors. They are great sizes for when you have a bigger brush to dip into them or you just like more paint. 😝 I have 4 empty ones of that size but haven’t figured out what paints to put in them. Do you keep your big pans in the folio palette?
      I also love your emergency watercolor kit! I’ve been looking for a linen or cotton oversized button down shirt/top that has big pockets so I can tuck away an emergency watercolor setup. 😂
      Also, how was Alaska?! I’ve always wanted to go!!!

      @@jaclynbaerart I went to Alaska on a cruise with my mom in September 2019, and built a palette around the Daniel Smith Primatek colors from pigments that were mined there. It made painting easy, and I loved it; that's also when I learned how really important good paper is, because mine WASN'T. Live and learn! But it was wonderful.
      I only want those large pans in the Folio-sized palette. I'm a fan of having fewer colors and mixing from those. I seldom use small brushes, so I love having more space so that I don't wear out my brush tips.
      Before Letter Sparrow, even though I'm committed to supporting small businesses, I had given up on handmade watercolors, because they so often rub off the paper once they've dried. Letter Sparrow was recommended often over several years by Brie at Documented Journey, whom I've been following for about seven years, so I really trust her. Kelly at Letter Sparrow is terrific, and her watercolors are excellent.
      I'm sure glad I discovered YOU, because following you on RUclips has been great. 😁

    There are some people on Instagram who share their palette set-ups. I've gotten ideas, and paint references to try. Also, ATK has the cute *4-way* rubberbands which can hold mini-art kits together. I'd add a small pencil to your minimal kit as well as a waterbrush. Then the set-up is perfect and ready to go.
    Nice vid, Jaclyn.

    I just discovered you and truly enjoyed your pace. So relaxing. My favorite colors of Daniel Smith are: green gold, transparent pyrrole orange, rose of ultramarine, imperial purple, verditer, ultramarine turquoise, amazonite genuine, cobalt turquoise, serpentine genuine, sodalite genuine, Jane's gray, nickel azo yellow, aussie red gold, deep scarlet, naphthamide maroon and indanthrone blue. Sorry, the list is so long with the sap green of course, they are really my favorite. oh! and pyrrole crimson. Enjoy exploring some of those. if I was to choose three, it would be green gold, ultramarine turquoise and aussie red gold :) Ah! cobalt blue violet is really nice too!

    This was so fun, that demi palette is so cute. I loved every stage of this video, idk why I love watching fellow artists fill their palettes, maybe I need artists anon! 😆...I love most of the big brands for different reasons, I wasn't sure from your video what your favourite subjects to paint are, but green gold is a fabulous mixing colour for the natural world. I'm also a bit in love with Winsor & Newtons Aqua ( slightly granulating) and smalt ( very granulating). Hope they give you something a bit different to look at. Watch Kimberley Crick make a mixing palette using the Aqua. Now I'm off to find more of your videos! ❤

      Whoa that’s a lot of colors!! 😝 if you haven’t done it already, make a swatch page of each color and pick some of your favs to then mix together to see all the shades you can get from a smaller selection!! Good luck! What’s your favorite colors to paint with? I’m a fan of mixing greens 🙌🏼

    • @lark6676
      @lark6676 Год назад +1

      Greens for me too. I don't like reds so PV19 and PR 209 is as close as I get to those. But greens that's my sweet spot. And Daniel Smith has so many amazing greens. My favorite Sap Green is Daniel Smiths version. I'm up way to late messing around and mixing colors. But it's so fun.@@jaclynbaerart

    • @jaclynbaerart
      @jaclynbaerart  Год назад +1

      Yes! Sap green is a good one! I like mixing colbalt blue with my yellows like new gamboge or hansa yellow medium or even nickel azo yellow (sorry don't have the numbers so I just know the names) lol.@@lark6676

    • @lark6676
      @lark6676 Год назад

      Yes, I'm a cobalt blue girl too, hardly ever put in ultramarine...but I can put a small pan of ultra and a bigger pan of cobalt. Those are the 2 yellows I decided on too. Hansa medium and New Gamboge. It was a toss-up because Hansa deep is a single pigment PY 65 which would probably be better for mixing. Gamboge is PY 97 and PY 101 but it has more character, and it is transparent, so it won. Oh, PV 19 is Quin Rose and PR 209 is Quin Coral. So, I have 5 colors sorted out 9 more to go. Thanks for chatting I have no one around me who is as interested in watercolor as I am.@@jaclynbaerart

    Try using a safety-pin or toothpick to stir paint into the corners of pans in the future it’s MUCH less mess and much easier to do also

    I have one of each size but currently only use my Folio. The Folio is my everyday travel palette since I feel the need for more mixing space than the smaller ones give me. My Demi is now for eyeshadow since it is perfect for tossing in my bag for when I need to spruce up before a meeting or event at work. I am considering using my Pocket for “extra” colors to pair with my main Folio or possibly as an “ultralight” when I need something super small. At the moment I am not a fan of the small square pans but am still playing around and may let them grow on me.

    • @jaclynbaerart
      @jaclynbaerart  11 месяцев назад

      I like the extra mixing space of the Folio too!! I even have one of the extra mixing pans in mine for my brown mixing space. I love that you use your Demi for eyeshadow for work - that's a smart way to reuse it since it was too small for your paints. Good idea!

      @@jaclynbaerart I too use the extra mixing pans in the folio. I mix up how many paints I keep in it but for the moment have my full 15 colors and am using it as my main palette doing ATC size in my sketchbook. I can't imagine filling the whole thing with pans but am loving my current set up.
