my new art kit pouch 🌿🍄 | organizing art supplies for travel and en plein air
It has been a dream of mine to create something artists could use to organize their art supplies no matter where they create. Inspired by my 300 mile hike in Sweden last summer, I wanted to make something that could handle any adventure-while still being just as useful in the studio or while out at a coffee shop.
For the last year and a half, I have been designing and testing a new art sling/hip-belt for artists. And after months of hard work and sewing in my studio, I am finally launching my Sälka Art Sling just in time for my early holiday sale. I've already received many orders from my newsletter community and I'm so excited to get started (limited orders being taken for the holiday sea...

WOW! I am impressed with your passion, kindness, creativity, and Multi Talents. I cannot sew a straight line to save my life, lol and you have designed and sewn your own zippered pouches and bags. So Awesome! I just stumbled on your video tonight and I am thrilled I did. Looking forward to being notified you have restocked. Beautiful Scenery you get to enjoy and share with us. I will start watching your previous videos. Take care
Perfect timing! I’ve been trying to put together an art “go” kit for quite awhile. Each thing I try is marginally okay but usually too small or bulky and too heavy. I’m excited for my order to arrive!
I'm so excited and I hope you love it! Those are the reasons why I made the Sälka pouches, so I'm glad it'll be put to good use. Thanks for watching and ordering! I appreciate your support so much.
Love all the very helpful tips! Such a peaceful video as well. Thank you!! I would also recommend Claire Walker Leslie who authored a few books on Nature Journaling. I found them very helpful!
Thanks! I'll check out Claire Walker Leslie's books, I love learning about nature journaling. Thanks for watching!
I’m ordering my set now. ❤
Yay! Thank you thank you!!!
Love it! Cheers from Brasil
Thank you! And thanks for watching from Brasil ❤️
Love the new bag. Could you use the small purple pouch with clips to hold the wigs from the hip back option?
I don’t know what you mean 😝 like clip the mini to the belt wings?
@ Yes, may have to shorten the wings or make another small coin bag that would fit.
@@michellecarr6498 I could play around with that idea - thank you Michelle!
This looks fantastic Jaclyn! I think a carabiner clip would hold the hip straps nicely in the back when they aren’t in use. I didn’t think I wanted anything for Christmas…. Until now! 🥰
I'm so glad you like it Hannah! That's a great idea using a carabiner clip! I have a few laying around so I'll give that a go. Thanks for watching!! :)
What a lovely art pouch!!! Would you tell me how long the strap is? Thank you. 😊 (as a plus size gal I’d like to know if it will fit.) 😉
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it. I made sure to have the belt length listed on the product page just for this reason! It's a 1” waist-belt adjustable up to 45” circumference! Let me know if you need a different size, I'm happy to customize it for ya!
Thanks for replying so quickly. I must have missed that detail. Placed my order and I’m looking forward to receiving my lovely art pouch. An early birthday present. 😃Happy Holidays!!!
@@misspearl6828 amazing! Thank you thank you! And yay for an early birthday present!! Aren't those the best?!
this was very insightful, I've always wanted to set up an art show. Maybe one day
I’m so glad this was helpful! You totally should do an art show if it’s feasible for you. It’s really helpful just to go through the steps and get some practice!
I read Artist Way years ago and have had starts and stops with morning pages. Now I feel the need for clarity more than ever. Thanks for your words of encouragement!🙏🏻Namaste
I'm so happy it was helpful! It's a great way to make space for yourself in your day. 💕
Ohh, I have to make one of those art boards to see if I like it! Looks so handy!
It really does make a world of difference for plein air painting! 😁
22:40 Oil? Sorry, what oil?
There was this layer of oils at the top of the tube. Must of been the binding agent or something that settled to the top since I hadn't opened these gouache tubes in a while! ha!
@ I thought the binder would be gum Arabic or something similar for gouache? Are these gouache paints?
@ you’re right it’s probably that!!
@@jaclynbaerart Thanks for the clarification 🙂
@ of course!
6:53 Are you actually using your table as a mixing surface? I did that once on a desk that had a ceramic surface.
I put a sheet of palette paper on my desk, it's white so it looks like my desk! Normally I use my ceramic palettes but I need to clean them again. lol.
@ I did notice the sheet of paper later on in the video. When you started squeezing out the paints, I could not at all see the sheet; it blended so well with your desk 😄.
Ha! Yes it does blend so well with the desk!
I love this bag so far! I just wanted to say, What if you made the hip pack attachment “wings” just a tad longer so they are able to meet in the middle, and put velcro on them so they stay together and can also act as a tripod strap or another kind of strap for maybe hanging a towel ? What doynou think?
Hey there! Thanks for the thoughtful response. I appreciate your insights into the design! Yes, we thought a lot about the wings and different ways to secure it/how it could be useful as an attachment. I want to avoid the wings being too long because it makes it harder to adjust the belt when wearing it (on smaller waists, this would put the belt cinch in an awkward position to tighten). But I am still tinkering with the idea of some kind of "loop" they could tuck into in a future design revision like you mention. I have other ideas for that feature for future design attachments too :) So definitely more ideas and unique uses to come! Thanks again for watching and giving me some ideas!
An S hook carabiner could be used rather than your bulldog clips…. Nice job!
An S hook carabiner would also be a great option! Lots of ways to pin the wings when it’s not being used. Thanks for watching! ❤️
Congrats on the new release!
Thanks so much! I'm really happy with how it turned out!
I really wanted to order some bags but no Austrian adress was accepted :(
I'm trying to figure out how to ship to other countries! 🤞🏼
What a beautiful and inspiring video! Love all the features you’ve put into the art sling pouch! I have also loved using my explorer bundle, this will be a great addition for standing while plein air painting, and it’s so great that it can stand on its own for cafe art journaling. Also, using the clips I carry with a sketchbook anyway to hold the belt flaps is brilliant! Ordered! Merry Christmas to me, lol❤
I am so glad you loved the video! It's amazing to hear you're excited to add it to your art kit! You're gonna love it! :) Thank you thank you!!
Great designs! All of the items you make look fantastic.
Thanks so much! I’m really happy with how they turned out!
Congratulations!! That is so exciting!
I'm so excited about it too!
Lovely, and very smart design.
Awe, thank you so much! I had a lot of fun creating this for other artists :)

OOOOOMMMMMGGGG!!!!! I’m so excited!!! I’m still so bummed our meet up didn’t happen! I’ll have to come back out in the future!
Ahhhh! I'm so glad you like it! And yes, we'll have to try again to meet up soon!
Recently found your channel and find you so inspiring. This is a beautifully thought out design that really highlights the value of hand made things. So glad I found your channel!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it! 💕
This is your niche Jaclyn! I just know the products are gonna get even better with each iterations. Enjoy the slow growth, before more people catch on & you've got too many orders to fulfil. Congratulations. I've been waiting for something like this to consolidate my kit of multiple small bags. Defintely ordering, thanks for being cost conscious
This are such kind words and I am so glad you like it Alphonzo! It's been really fun slowly creating this and making it better each time. This one is the best yet out of all of them! lol. I'm so glad you'll be getting one to consolidate your smaller bags. So good!!
Oooh remember how I told you that my art stuff was in a canvas bag to protect it from my cats? Well I got a roll top desk on marketplace that's got heaps of drawers, so all my art stuff has moved into it's new home (the desk), and I can roll the top down if I don't want to put everything away before bed... Nice job on the pouch... I can't afford it right now, I just spent my money a few days ago.
No worries at all! Thanks for watching. Yes, I remember you telling me that :) That's a great way to protect all of your art supplies from your cats! So much easier to just roll the top down when you're done for the day. Great find!
Beautiful
Awe, thanks so much! :)
Ordered the lilac color!
I am SO excited to make your art sling! I love the lilac color :) Thank you so much!
I cant wait. Would love to have it for my trip to Disney 😂 Not super adventurous, but i have three little boys, so that’s as exciting as it gets for us
@@sfs825 that sounds so fun!!! I’ve been to Disney World before and the lilac color will look so good and colorful with all the Disney themes!!! I’m so excited for you!
Can you show us what you carry in each pouch?
Of course! I'll probably make a separate video sharing what all I carry in the different Sälka pouches. The art sling can carry quite a bit though. It has 2 liters of internal capacity to comfortably hold an A5 size sketchbook, my pencil pouch, and pretty much everything else I need. The mini pouch is how I carry my super tiny minimal art kit for traveling or when I'm not expecting to paint/sketch. It holds my Art Toolkit Demi Palette, Legion mini pad, Princeton travel brush, mini Zig Zag book, and a small water filled brush for watercolor. But if I'm using it with my art sling, I use the mini pouch more as a little organizer bag for some of my smaller items. I hope that helps! :)
Soooooo impressed with this Jaclyn absolutely great art bundle you've thought of everything here 😊
Thanks so much! 😊 I absolutely love it and happy to have it finally here! Eek!
That’s so exciting! Can’t wait to check it out 👏🏻👏🏻
I hope it gives you some inspiration for organizing your own art supplies! ✨
great book!
Amazing book! Thanks for watching! ❤️
@@jaclynbaerart thank you! I have the entire audio on my channel!
Where do you get the plastic containers for holding the eraser?
Art Toolkit has a set of 3!
Hey Hun, I’m wondering where you got the little containers to hold the kneaded eraser. I definitely need some!! 💕💕
Hello!! Ah yes, I got them from a site called Art Toolkit! They have a set of 3 for not that much and it’s perfect for my kneaded eraser. I have one in every art bag 😂
Very chill video to watch while painting my own bits ❤ Cute idea for the colour swatches on the lids. I just paint straight on the lid for acrylic/acryl gouache/flashe paints. Im too lazy to do the little squares for watercolour and gouache 😅😅
Haha, I'm so glad it was a chill video while you painted too! I wanted to paint straight on the lid, but it wouldn't stick for me. But I can do that for my acrylics tubes too! Thanks for watching!!
Have just found you and have subscribed, I do watercolours but lately have been really enjoying gouache and acrylic pens which look like gouache
I'm so glad you found my channel - thanks for the sub! I haven't used acrylic pens before, that sounds so cool! Do you have a favorite set you like?
Inspiring. The book is such a great reference I'm buying it! Do you like the Holbein or WN gouache better?
It's such a great reference book! I'm so glad you like it. I'd say I really like Holbein gouache a lot, especially the acrylic gouache. I should do a swatching or review video on both brands - would that be something you'd watch?
@ absolutely. I'm curious about the texture and coverage of both but I can only afford a small set of one of them.
@@cheralynn4417 good to know! I'll put it on my video ideas list and work on it!
@@jaclynbaerart Also, I don't know if you use actual gouache but if you do could you add that to your comparison or do another video? I'm not sure what the advantages are compared to designer gouache, how to keep the mess down when plein air painting, etc. if that's something you're into, of course.
@@cheralynn4417 love this idea too! I have just the Holbein acrylic gouache and regular gouache and then a few designer ones from W&N. So I could always start there and then expand as I get more!
Beautiful love this so much 😊❤
Thank you so much!! 🫶🏼

@ Thanks!
This was so beautiful and inspiring! you gave me hope as a new artist
That makes me so happy to hear ❤️ Thanks for watching. You deserve to create art and I’m so glad you feel hopeful!
Good job on the bags! A couple of thoughts about your supplies--Liz Stoz has a video about how she both fills her pans and addresses the issue of shrinkage; I don't have the link but I believe it was called something like her five most asked for tips or something like that. She talks about stirring the paint in the pan to reach all the corners and so on, and when they shrink and crack adding a bit of gum arabic, then adding more paint in to fill in the cracks. I've tried it and so far so good, though it's only been a few weeks and they haven't really had much time to dry out. It's no fun when you're out somewhere with no back up and you lose your next color and can't see where it's gone because it's that well matched to what you're painting! Also, you can fix magnet tape to your board and your ArtToolKit will magically stay put without clips as it is both metal and has a magnet on the bottom of it just for such things. I use a similar board and have found that duct tape (the same color of course! :)) keeps the corners from catching and potentially wearing out light plastic coverings or fabrics next to them. Bonus tip--in the UK they have something called a pocket blanket--small squares or rectangles of waterproof ripstop that can be folded and fit into a tiny stuff sack that you can lay down on the ground if you don't want to set up a chair (a log at the beach comes to mind). I just used some from my own sewing adventures and it's great! Nice job on the videos and keep up the good work!
Thanks for all the great tips! I’m always looking for ways to improve my kit, especially for en plein air painting. 🫶🏼
Very creative! Jesus loves you! Seek him and enjoy his creation! ❤
