I have 3 kids that I homeschool and I work part-time from home as well as a few other gigs I work outside of the home a few days a week. My days are usually chaotic and busy and finding time for my art and improving my skills can be tough. I have to wake up early so I can lead a group exercise class in the mornings and before I head out I've started taking the time that I sip on my coffee to sketch whatever is sitting on my kitchen table. Or I will sketch a face of somebody I know. It's the best way to start my day. I love it and it's a great moment of calm I get to enjoy before the day begins.
You definitely have a more chaotic and busy life with all your littles! I'm so glad that you have attached your sketching while you sip on your coffee. That must feel like such a treat to your day! I love that so much!
Last year I got an iPad that has helped me do the lazy artist routine. Sometimes I'm too overwhelmed to open a sketchbook and draw, I worry about wasting resources but with my ipad, i can draw without any pressure to create finished pieces! Your video was really insightful, love your voice 😊
That's a great idea to use your iPad!! I have an old iPad that I like to create on, and i really like your thought process of it's not wasting resources. That's a great tip!
Hi 👋🏼. Great advice! The one place that I get inspired the most to paint is bed. Anyone has any good advise on how to paint in watercolours on white bedsheets 😂? No seriously 😐. What supplies do you keep next to your beds and how do you protect your bedsheets from phthalos?
Getting one of those bed desks or even a "breakfast tray" would help with keeping your art supplies all together and more off the bed! As for the white sheets, you could always lay out a blanket you don't mind getting paint on to help save the sheets :)
😂I loved this! Try folding an old sheet several times and lay that under your work… or I have used an old quilted pillow sham or old quilted table runner. Those phthalos do not wash out well at all. Maybe you should buy sheets with a colorful busy print on them!
Hey Jaclyn you have some great tips here I have my 'easy' art supplies for easy sketching ready and available in a little corner of my desk pencil eraser and fineliner sepia amd black o.1mm both and sketchbook this means my art materials a very simple I'll draw a small and simple subject ie. Flower and I'll set my timer for 10 minutes that feels easy and obtainable for me and I end up feeling like I made time to relax get inspired and focus mindfulness living in the moment with every stroke of the pencil after pencilling I erase and line the flower then I'll add dots amd dashes for detailing I'm an absolute beginner with flowers I'm soooooo excited ❤
That's so good you have your easy art setup in a little corner. So cute! And good tip for setting a timer to help you just get in the flow and draw whatever you can in that time. That's so good!
This is a great video to encourage creativity in such an easy way. I sketch most evenings (just graphite)while my husband watches “Gold Rush” on Discovery+ . I have cheap sketchbooks everywhere : my car, under the couch, in a kitchen drawer, by my bed, and in my hand bag. Recently (about 6 months ago) I purchased a Canson XL mixed media paper spiral bound book- (it’s affordable paper that can take a lot of work without pilling). I had wanted to get better at mixed media but all of my expensive sketchbooks are just too “precious” but this book gave me permission to play. I have filled that book and purchased 2 more. Most days I spend 10-20 minutes in that book using every medium I own in it, that’s the first thing I do when I get into my studio in the morning. It’s a great warm up AND I’m actually getting better at mixed media! I also have my plein air kits packed and ready to grab & go. Having those makes painting on the go definitely easier and I’m always tweaking my kit to make it more streamlined. It’s such a joy in busy life to pull the paints out and do a quick painting…. I’m getting better at that too just by making it easier to grab & take along.
I'm so glad you like it Hannah! I really like that you have multiple cheap sketchbooks everywhere. I do a similar thing! And the Canson mixed media sketchbook is great. I have a big one I got last summer and it's perfect for just playing around, getting my creativity out - it's so true that the cheaper ones are easier to use! lol! And I love that each morning you have a routine of warming up and evolving your mixed media without really trying!! I love it!!

I do the same and it really helps to improve and to heal perfectionism 😊
Yes it does! It's so nice to just sit and create with no perfectionism!
I feel totally related,identify ❤😊 thanks for sharing 👩🏻🎨
I'm so glad you relate to this! Thank you for writing me! :)
Good advice! 💛👍
Glad you think so!

I have actually ordered an over the bed desk and keep my “at hand” supplies there. I suggested printed floral sheets for the pthalo.

@@lisamessina5952 Printed floral sheet 😂. Good advice, though.
@@lisamessina5952 I also like the desk idea before. I thought of it, but there is no room around my bed for for an over bed desk. Thanks, though 😃.
