    Beautiful! I'm profoundly deaf by birth and my life long pet peeve was a table or desk facing a wall. I love your studio!

      Thank you, Cynthia! That's so interesting about the placement of your desk. I'm forever shifting things around. I tried putting my painting table against the wall in my new studio ruclips.net/video/02ZBQxxWrGc/видео.htmlsi=vTCyOiGCqLk2kuXA but I didn't like it at all. The table takes up a lot of space where it is, but I love being able to look out at my garden and having the option of working on various sides. Thanks so much for sharing!

    I'm sooooo glad you showed us many overall views of your studio so we could get a really good look at the entire space... many studio tours just don't do that, they show you bits and pieces of how they store their supplies without actually letting you see how the different areas and spaces work together or relate to each other as a whole. Good job

    Thanks for the tour! My studio, such as it is, sits in a north bay window of our dining room. I work on a gate leg table that can be partially cleared and folded when we have company. The rest of my things take up part of the buffet, a bookcase, a night stand, and one shelf of the hall closet. And a re-purposed wooden sewing caddy on legs that belonged to my mother-in-law. What I wouldn't give for a whole room!

    Love love your studio esp the soft natural light. Thank you for showing us around. I’m at the proverbial dining room table but since I live alone I can leave everything I’m working on right there. Supplies are in the lower open shelves of two bookcases. The stash of old used books and rarely used supplies are in 1/2 of a hall closet. Papers stamps ephemera live in 4-5 large flat 12x12 plastic boxes on the floor in a corner of the dining room. It sounds a whole lot more organized than it is. Constant piles on piles hiding favorite tools or pens obscure the work table. I sort and purge in December so people can eat holiday dinner there, but otherwise it is an annoyance. Watching you organize your watercolors the other day inspired me to try to make tidying my space a fun regular practice. Clara is a sweetheart❤

      Hi, Karen! Thanks for sharing about your space. I've heard other artists who live alone describe their whole homes as their studios! I love that idea. I always find that cleaning and organizing my work space is energizing and I am NOT generally a fan of cleaning and organizing! Haha.

    I have that copy of "In Her Studio!" Really enjoyed this video, and loved Clara's background snores! I, too, haven't yet started a sketchbook - though I have one. It's good to know you finally started. I moved my studio a few months ago into the main room of my 2-room cabin. Before I moved here I often said I want to live in an art studio...so now I do. Fall was busy with garden harvest and preparing for winter, painting Christmas cards, etc. so I am looking forward to changing around my storage (all thrifted too! Yes, challenging!) now that I've been working in it and gave a better sense of flow. You may have a small space, but this iteration looks good for the usages you describe! Thanks for the inspo, and have a joy-filled and prosperous 2024!

      @AnneButera I saw that! It's lovely here. I will also send some videos of the beautiful scenery from the trail (former railroad track) that runs for many many miles nirth and south of here. My neighbour is thinking of getting a drone, so hopefully we'll get some overhead footage too! We are right at the base of a "mountain", which here in Ontario is a mere hill 😊, but it's all wooded, and along the trail close by is a lake and beautiful marshes. I dreamed of living in the country while working for many years in the city, so I am very content. Lots of folks think living without running water or an indoor toilet is a challenge, but I'm totally fine with it. First time I visited my Norwegian grandparents they didn't have an indoor toilet, and when attending school there a few decades ago my best friend didn't have an indoor toilet either!

    Hi, you said your drawers in your alex unit from ikea are bowing. This happens more often than you think. You have to unscrew the two screws in the drawers then pull the drawers out and put glue in the slot and readjust the bottom of the drawer back into the slot. Let the glue dry. You can even use kids elmer glue. That should solve your problem, i had this problem too

    • @AnneButera
      @AnneButera  Год назад

      Hi, Carol. Yes, I did that with the drawers a few years ago, but the glue did not hold. I used wood glue and let everything completely dry. Perhaps I didn't use enough glue or maybe I just fill the drawers too full!

Hearing you have changed things around a few time was encouraging. It depends on what I am working on and how well I can make my studio flow with me. I have changed it around a number of times too. With winter climates - we need our light! The plants will still thrive as we share it. :D Greetings from Alaska.

    What a wonderful space. I have a small space that I share with the dinning room table. Although it’s not the dinning room we eat our breakfast here and special dinners like Thanksgiving. My space is the perimeter of the room that is mostly open to the entry way, Kitchen and living room. When my sons had to move home I gave up a bedroom and dinning room so they had bedrooms. But I have made it work even though it’s cramped and cluttered. I would like to change things but can’t decide what to do. I dream of getting my spaces back and not cramming everything into this small space. Your space looks amazing. Thank you for sharing.

    Very fun tour! Thanks for sharing, Anne. I love how you surround yourself with color, plants, your art and display your collected items. I think rearranging often is important to keep ideas and inspiration flowing. I also love the angles and alcoves in your space which create interesting nooks. Have you watched the "Home Edit" show on Netflix? They organize and arrange items in rainbow order which is something I have started doing and realized, that's how I choose things -- by color!

    Very lovely space, thank you for sharing! In terms of the layout and light, have you thought about putting your large desk flat to the wall with the South-facing window?
    Noticed printer on top of the Alex. I'm planning my own home office/craft/art studio in the part of my living room (cries). Putting a photo printer on top of Alex was my initial idea (because I need space at the back for front-loading fine art papers and it's too heavy to move all the time) and I thought that I could use Alex for storing my large blocks of watercolour paper. However, ultimately I found a better solution for both: printer would go on Kallax (like yours) which will be used as a divider between the office and recreational parts of the room and I'll use a Kallax TV bench (it has long narrow slots for game consoles) to store various large format items (watercolour blocks, cutting mats, scoring board etc.), exactly because Alex drawers seem to be quite flimsy (max load - 2 kg).
    Also, due to the space constraints, I limited myself to two desks (one for the monitor and one for crafting, painting, filming and packing orders - if they materialise 😂). Both will be adjustable height desks.

      Thank you so much! While that room was my studio I tried just about every possible arrangement, including having the table against the wall (I also had the table in the middle of the room). In my new studio -- ruclips.net/video/02ZBQxxWrGc/видео.htmlsi=T74Jg37n44vZJvpj -- I tried the table against the wall but within minutes I had to move it out into the room again. It just didn't work for me. I love being able to work on both sides. It also helps divide the room into separate work areas (my printer is now in a closet!). We all have to figure out the right arrangement for how we work. Sometimes it needs to change. Shifting the furniture can be so inspiring! Have fun arranging your space!
