I saw Alex Hilkurtz use a sketchbook of very, very cheap brown paper to practice and mess around the perspective of his urban scenes. Seeing him use a very cheap book as a practice run, and seeing him draw quickly and without caring about the quality of his lines, has inspired me to do the same. I use a notebook of cheap brown paper to practice my drawing skills. I give limited attention to how I approach the subject, I just start drawing. I use pens, not pencils, to force my self not erase any mistakes; I just draw around them or totally ignore them.
That is such a brilliant idea!! I've used scrap papers to sketch quickly, but love this idea of cheap books to practice on and to use pens and just go for it. Thank you for sharing this awesome tip!! I'm also going to check out Alex Hilkurtz now too :)

Thanks for advocating for messing up our sketchbooks. Even after hearing this advice time and time again, it’s still very difficult for me to do that 😂.

@@jaclynbaerart Welcome! I love his sketching and painting style. It’s very difficult for me to emulate his style, but I might get there someday. 🙂
