Knoebels has such a big place in my heart. I’m not much a ride person but I still can’t help being fascinated by them I went on the Phoenix, let alone any coaster, for the first time in 2014 at the insistence of my girlfriend and haven’t been on a coaster since. Hell I’ve never even been on the flyers. My mom worked at the Alamo and went on the Phoenix when it opened (Apparently the staff were given a free go at it) before also never going on. There’s just a special joy in being there on a hot day and doing whatever you want that’s within your thrill range. It should be on anyone’s park bucket list just for having a lot to do and being pet friendly.

I always had an obsession with these rides as a kid. Probably from the fear of them. The outsides just look so ominous and raw and I still see something special in them so it’s cool to find channels like this that have the same enthusiasm and look into the background and details.
You should check out the knotts scary farm haunted house “dark ride.” The theme is that you’re walking through a broken down one of these and go back and forth between the actual track of the ride and the machinery with the power coming on and off. it’s pretty creative

one of my favorites dark rides is Mr Toads Wild Ride at Disneyland , Anaheim CA. But it is also a shame the small independent parks are keep closing. I have not been on a county fair / traveling carnival dark ride since i was in grade school however. Cool video report , i liked it.

This is what I was looking for! As a kid I watched how the dark ride got build at the carnaval at our town, then later drawing the ride, including little bolts and screws. These classic dark rides still are the first thing i'm looking for at any fair or carnival. I will definately follow this series ( already hooked on POV rollercoaster rides) Thanx for this specific dark ride series!

I was scared to death of the Haunted Mansion at Knoebels as a kid. That was the early 90s. You couldn't get a spot in line on a warm Friday night. The place was packed. The haunted mansion was where you went if you were someone.
Fun fact in the attic scene there is a guy in the back of the pile of stuff. That guy was part of a ring toss where you could win a cigar. It had a Hitler, an Indian, a black man, and a banker (I think a banker) for obvious reasons the game had to be taken down at some point. But one part of it was stuffed in the attic in honor of the past.
The radio on that pile of "junk" is also functional and very old.
There is also books in the first room and they all have a joke behind them.

What a great video. This so brings me back to when I was a kid growing up in Metro Detroit and going to an amusement park Bob-Lo Island. It too had a dark ride similar to the first clip especially the outside dip in between the inside. One of the coolest parts was not just getting there but the mode of transport to get u there. The island was on the Canadian side of the river and we would board these awesome Bob-Lo riverboats and the 3 tiered cruisers would steam majestically between Us/Canada riverway for about about 45-50 minute cruise. The boats each had a stage and a big dancefloor and would be rented out by various groups for parties and concerts. I remember buying popcorn from the concessions attendant as the eager seagulls would be at the ready as they glided along with us catching the corn in midair as we would offer various lobs to test their trapping skills. They hardly ever missed. 😊 Wish I could instill the excitement as a kid you'd feel when the park came into view as the rollercoasters and ferris wheels would be in action. That park and the boats have long slipped into Detroit history. So nice to see folks like this striving to keep this wonderful part of Americana around for younger generations to enjoy. And it's so true they don't make em like those anymore. Once they're gone they're gone.

That's so cool that there is a program like this. I hadn't heard. I've been around since the 50's, but I didn't realize there were, or had been, so many dark rides. And so many have fizzled out, which is sad. Like rollerskating rinks. It takes a lot of labor, and love, to keep them going. My heart goes out to all who have kept the rides alive. Good job! I also like the Disney dark rides that I've seen in person, or on RUclips. And I can see where they got their origins from.

My partner and I went the past two years, very homey but hospitable. No rudeness. The haunted mansion is truly awesome. My absolute favorite two rides as a kid. I've since seen videos of the refits of those rides. They should never have done that. Those rides should never have changed, they should just have gone in and repaired all the props and animatronics to match what I remembered. They should've consulted with me, dammit!

I’m sure your map of dark rides towards the beginning of your video wasn’t accurate as I know of at least half a dozen old dark rides in California alone that weren’t on your map.
    For example, ruclips.net/video/NIYUmUXVx9g/видео.html

Hey Ryan, it was a rough map indeed, original rides from the pre digital era are very rare though, lay it on me and we can discuss if you want? Super keen to see more, thanks for your support

I think sally built the ghost blasters and also updated the Santa Cruz dark ride, they are amazing and do what the can to restore and make classic looking dark rides. What I really wanted to focus on was the historic nature of these spaces, there are so few regional amusement parks with unique stories to tell.

What a frustrating video to watch. The editing was so awkward and jolting that I couldn't even finish watching it.
