“You guys don’t tattoo the same” why is that even a challenge? I thought the point of different artists were different styles? Who wants two people who tattoo exactly the same?
My brain blew a few sparks watching that too. There is no point that this skill would be needed in a tattoo shop. If two ppl want identical portraits, they would just have one artist do them.
They were portraits.. portraits arent about personal style.. I think the point of this challenge was to test perception. As a tattoo artist you're going to have to replicate things perfectly from time to time. There are pieces they do that are their own personal art style, but the challenge was to create the same image.
@@destinyperry3209 Even with portraits, there’s bound to be some sort of stylized difference due to technique and perception. Saying “you don’t tattoo the same” is not the same as them not successfully replicating the portrait.
Yes! Same thought, even if you have two artist with a verry similar style, there is always going to be a slight difference. You can always tell that they were done by different people. And to be honest if I was to ever get a tatoo, especially a matching one I would rather get it by one artist and give him more time to do it. Portraits are difficult to do anyway, because you can´t take much artistic liberty, but doing it exactly like a different artist is impossibal.
The judging is so ridiculous, I'm starting to just think they shouldn't be allowed to use facial features as reasons for criticism unless they're talking about portraits, maybe pinups. "The Queen's forehead slopes too much and her nose is too bulbous" - and this says _what_ about the skill applied in the tattoo? You're evaluating how skilled the tattoo artist is, not how pretty you think the woman they drew is.
Right? Those facial features speak of a linage, which is what queens are known for. Queens are not mandated to be "beautiful", least of all by our modern perceptions of beauty. That particular critique annoyed the hell out of me. The tattoo was beautiful.
Is this a joke? How was there actually any debate on whether blackspade should've gone home or not??? That goat tattoo was really good and their's looked like a hot mess
It was stunning. I have that type of nose and I’ve always been insecure about it, but seeing it in an amazing piece of art like this, it’s just looks amazing.
I hate how even on challenges where cute girls aren't the topic, they critique a tattoo for a female in it not being their version of pretty. They literally sent an artist home in a different season because the artist tattooed a grim reaper on a girl for a horror topic, and they didn't like that the artist tattooed a gruesome reaper on a pretty girl. They sent him home for the reaper not being "pretty enough" to be on a girl for a horror challenge.
Saaame this drives me crazy. Not every female face needs to be sultry or a pinup. The queen didn’t need to be “hot,” it would have just been corny if they would have gone for that. It looked great and her strong and unique profile was a huge part of what made it cool.
I hate it too, but for the queen there needed to be an indent to divide the nose and brow even just a slight one, the use of the word attractive is a poor choice and I don’t think they meant it in the sense of female beauty in regards to this particular tat
People really don't understand you need a good reference for a good portrait. You can't make up detail you can't see so if there's no detail in the photo your screwed.
THANK YOU I WAS LOOKING FOR THE WORD, i swear some of these people would demand a portrait from a yearbook photo where one nostril is a whole pixel and the image is half an inch, or blown up bigger and heavily pixelated
Right! He talked about the detail over the eye, and how it wasn't there in the photo... it was there, it was just harder to see, due to overexposure. I agree, they could've went a little lighter on the shading around those details, like the nose, but overall it was pretty good.
If they knew what they were doing which they should for being artists. You can mess around with lighting settings on photoshop, so they could’ve just done that to try and better see some stuff.
So darker skin tones have a much harder time with keeping and showing contrast in color because black ink doesn't show as well on darker skin than on light skin.

these guys seem very caught up in 1. traditional beauty, and 2. perfect women. its almost like people find different things good looking but they dont seem to understand that
It bothers me so badly how the judges nor anyone else ever address when a tattoo artist complains about the skin tone of “their canvas”. If you can’t tattoo on multiple skins tones you’re not a tattoo artist.
I don't think YOU are a tattoo artist. Because then you would understand that tattooing darker skin requires an entirely different approach that many artists are not used to doing on a regular basis.
I dont think its about not being able to tattoo darker skin it just takes more ink and it takes longer and these arw timed challenges. If they just came into their shop no one would complain
It's about how the inks actually look you have to know your color theory as your clients skin tone and undertone can mess with the pigmentation ie client has more of a red undertone your yellow will look more orange. There's also the issue of as the skin gets to certain tones some inks like pastels will not show up at all. It's difficult you just have to know your craft and some fundamentals of art.
@@uhJerryJackson what’s your point? She’s not denying that, she just stated that a true INK MASTER would be able to do it. If not then why are u on the show? Smh

if you can't tattoo anything but white skin, then you aren't that good of an artist... point blank. color theory is a part of art and if you don't know how to work negative space and contrast than that's your own fault.

It really bums me out whenever I personally find the tattoo to be really good and something I'd be willing to get on me, but the judges point out minor flaws in which, like, almost any other person would have no problem with
Sometimes Chris really bugs me, the "sloping forehead and bulbous nose isn't an attractive look for this lady" is ridiculous. She's gorgeous, she has such beautiful features but since she's not a perky, cutesy traditional pinup Americana she's "not attractive"? Sometimes he can be so sexist just cause the girl isn't up to his standards of beauty. Yeah, the lines were shaky, but her features were lovely.
I highly doubt it's sexist. Jumping to the biggest conclusion is premature. I thought the tattoo looked good but those features are a little off from a design standpoint. So I see what he means.
Just watched that part and I agree with you. Her nose made perfect sense, especially If we're gonna be historically accurate. I hate how how the judges in this show hate anything that's not "conventionally attractive"
That was so silly. It just shows their own lack of skill/ability/experience when they complain about darker skin, especially when the 'dark' skin isn't even dark. I wonder if there was ever a dark skin challenge, where the contestants had to tattoos on only brown skinned people.

There are many absurd decisions made here, but I can't believe that night mode of "Amaterasu the sun goddess" with long alien limbs stays (which would be hard to un-see and is hard to cover up without screwing up entire picture since it is in the middle) and "Buddha" whose top of the hands could be covered up and leave the rest of the picture original and accurate, goes home.

Me and the queen have the exact same forehead💀💀
You look like u have the same exact forehead and bulbous nose 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought she looked beautiful regardless. I have a round nose, but I’m not sure if it would be considered bulbous. I still loved her.
I mean they are tatoo artist, not human copy machines
“The execution is flawless…buuuut I wouldnt sleep with this tattoo. It’s a no for me.”

Yeah, I was shocked when he said she was ugly when she just looks like a normal woman lol
Literally a bunch of horned up judges. This show would’ve been great without such bitchy and mean artists and less pompous and inconsistent judges.
😮😮😮
About that portrait of the little girl It probably helps to not have a photo with over exposed lighting for reference.
The photos half the time are the biggest problem
