They do that in orchestra. They want the best of the best. It is brutal. One mistake or they don’t like the sound of your instrument you are out with just a “No”. You go home not knowing what went wrong. 🎻🎻🎻🎻
I disagreed with a lot of the people sent home on this. Not saying they were great tattoos but I really felt like the worst ones weren't sent home.
That’s usually how it goes, when someone is consistently bad they don’t send them home because it’s not a surprise to anyone, but when a talented artist does a random bad job they immediately get sent home because they naturally draw more attention to themselves, that’s why a lot of the crappy artists somehow coast their way through too many episodes.
@Troy Taylor i agreed with nunez that the bat dont look like a bat but that kraken was fucking wack. If i was judging it would have been we dont need to see the rest that one is going home. I had to read the tattoo to work out what it was. The bat at least looked enough like a bat your mind can go eeeehhhh oh its a bat my mind still cant work out how that was a kraken

100% agreed! That faerie sitting on the moon was GORGEOUS!!! Shading and saturation can be added, the design is what counts, and that 1st one was busted and ugly!
Honestly, a lot of the bottom tattoos in this season are still better than some of the top tattoos in a couple other seasons 🤷♀️

The Liberty bell was easily the best in that competition. I've made a living out of illustration for nearly 50 years and couldn't believe they sent her home and not the guy who did the shield and arrows with the truly terrible USA lettering.

Illustrator and tattoo artist r no where near the same also u have to take into account what the challenge is. First example if it's a competition and it's for contrast. Someone could gave the best looking tattoo out of anybody there but if it doesht have a lot of contrast or not the best contrast they r gonna get eliminated
That bell is going to turn into a ghost due to the lack of black. There are more factors to take into consideration with tattoos than just pretty pictures.

I mean, it was season 13, by that point, people that joined the show knew that they shouldn’t be making bad tattoos that were as bad as let’s say season 1.

Yeah, some of the early seasons were really bad. Season 4 was legendary in this regard.

I wish they did this show by having the judges see the tattoos and review it, then learn who did it. I wonder if that would change any results.
That would be too fair. It's a reality show first and competition second...Drama and heavy handed production are the first priority of any show. Not the actual well-being of the people.

Yes I love all the shows but the British ones do "reality " much better cuz its actually real and not over edited Frankenstein mess that our shows here are just look at the reaction shots in this show I've caught them multiple times using a shot from a different time period or using one where their standing up but their supposed to be sitting down
Mike's fairy is hideous. You know it's a bad tattoo when the artist finishes and your first thought is about the cover up.

@@starboy32 if you look at the tat there is no guard on the bottom just the top making it look like the handle is upside down...if she would've put a guard on the lower part of the handle it would've been fine
Right. Gotta have the sense to know how a knife sits therefore transfer that image to the forearm in proper position. Grip is never up, it's down.

Either way you slice it she did it wrong.Even if it wasn't that type of knife, and just your ordinary fixed blade, you'd still only have one guard on some, and it would be on the bottom. If there's two, she missed the mark, and if there's one, she put it in the wrong place. Then trying to make excuses on top of it? She should have owned that mistake. She was the right person to go home.

Just because it looks perfect doesnt mean it is perfect...js ive had a tat the looked perfect but after it healed I noticed alot of mistakes and ended up getting it covered cuz it was ugly af

I've been bingeing these videos and I gotta say these judges suck. On multiple occasions they have said "it has an unfinished feel" but it's just a black and white tattoo. And the tattoos that are "unfinished" are better than the top tattoos and that truly shows in the first clip. Nychelle's tattoo was 1000% better than Emac's both visually and representation wise for the base of "patriotic".
I’ve binged them all this week and noticed the same thing I wonder do the judges really know what there doing I also thing the human canvas jury is unjustified because “I wouldn’t wear that” isn’t a valid critique and I think there’s bias among contestants better when they judge blind before the know who did it 😂
Hell the actually unfinished tattoo that Pony did in a different season was a lot better than some of the tattoos that coast by or end up in the top
Anyone who questions whether Chris Nunez and Oliver Peck know how to judge tattoos is dumb. The thing with the bell was it was a contrast challenge. It lacked black which equals lack of contrast. It is also going to heal super light and will look horrible. There is more to knowing what makes a good tattoo than “Ooohhhh pretty pictures!”

Nichelle's tattoo was like a painting on skin, threedimensional and so on, Emacs was just boring in comparison. It was well executed but the two tattoos were basically not comparable. It was bad that they got compared.

I know this is ages after you commented but the reason why is because the challenge was contrast like Chris said if the background richness was in the bell it would of be fine. Contrast = Dark and Light areas forming a strong visual balance

He was fired from the show. TMZ released photos of him dressing up as ‘black face’ for Halloween multiple times.

If we’re going off contrast as Dave mentioned, Jordi’s had the least amount. Not to mention the bottom half of Jordi’s tattoo is so haphazardly done and looks lazy; not to mention his neon looks so muddy and doesn’t have a lot of saturated color. I’d take Jordan’s bat over Jordi’s kraken any day of the week.
It was also infuriating how his point was that it doesn't look like a bat... That thing was clearly a bat. That judge has the weirdest issues with some of the tattoos..
I remember why I stopped watching Ink Masters. The way people gloat over someone else's misfortune just turns my stomach, and it seems over half are smiling when people are losing. Yes, it's a competition, but you gotta be humble. It could be you next

To give them the benefit of the doubt..I noticed in shows like this they like to take facial expressions from random moments to tell the story they want you to see. Say they got a clip of you crinkling your nose cuz you smelled a fart. Another contestant that’s supposed to be your rival gets a compliment and BOOM they throw in the clip of you grimacing at the smell of a wet fart lol but none of the viewers know that so it looks like you’re disgusted that your “rival” got a compliment. Sometimes you can catch the inconsistencies in the clips.
@Nighty Nightshade but they try to sabotage people and they talk about each other and tell what they did. For instance, I watched one where they were doing matching tats one girl told the others standing there that she rigged his drawing to make it distorted. It's the whining that their bad tattoo didn't win. It's just my thoughts when watching it

I really don't want to insult the judges - so all I'm saying is that bell was definitly not the worst tattoo of those 3.
A good design with imperfect shading/line work is, in my opinion, better than perfect execution with a crap design. That's why I like Ryan Ashley's work so much. Ultimately even in the times where she had to rush, her design overcame the shortcomings. She always puts out good designs.
Nychelle should N0T have gone home! The judging is such a joke. Her tattoo was leaps and bounds ahead of Emac's child's drawing and Jason's shaky looking eagle piece. Smh.

Nyshelle's elimination was baffling beyond belief. Yeah Emac's wasn't the *worst* but it was a 2 hour tattoo at maximum and it looked like it. At least Nyshelle's looked like she spent time on it, even if it wasn't technically sound.
I also didn't understand the consistency challenge; it would have made more sense to me if the judges had set a style, rather than a subject matter. Each team could've had a different style, with suitable motifs; you would still be able to compare the pieces, but the canvases wouldn't have such repetitious tattoos.

I dont think i could ever go on a competition show or to a tattoo artist that I've not done my research on. I don't want something i regret on my body that i have to cover up or have forever.... lol 😆🤣 I'm a wimp with that 100%

I just binged a season with some friends and we said the same thing. Some of the tattoos come out so wack. Or the next worst thing would be when you think you got a good tattoo and then you get in the room with the other canvases and they give you all these reasons why it sucks.

I’m honestly shocked how long K lasted because she was in the bottom about 85% of the time and only survived when Jimmy was at her side
The tattoo with the arrows was not symmetrical or well drawn tho, it had no creativity or skill, I thought the eagle and the bell were drastically better tattoos even if they just need a little touch up because of the time crunch not allowing them to give their all, the only reason the shield/badge thingy? (Not even sure what it was supposed to be) had solid colouring was because the rest of it was painfully low effort
I'm very surprised that Jordi went home for illegibility of his new school tattoo. To me it seemed pretty clear that it was a pig on a spit/pole over ribs on a grill that had smoke billowing out. The grill cover in the back also seemed pretty easily discernable for me as well. I'm VERY unfamiliar with tattoo styles, so I can't comment about the style, but I knew exactly what it was the moment I saw it.
I couldn't tell it was ribs, I thought it was a grilled pickle.

Yea that one blew my mind for sure. Sure you have to get in close to tell it’s ribs, but the pig was awesome, and one of the three tattoos wasn’t new school

Having moved to Texas only a year and a half ago. I've looked at so many shops in my area to do a full sleeve. Its true, a lot of the shops are slacking. Unless you want traditional its pretty rough. Diana Smith from season 10 is close by, but she has a very unique style, that is amazing and her work is great, just not something I want.
When I lived in Oklahoma, tattoos were illegal and we drove to Texas to get them. I've noticed over the years how different it is to just go to a random shop compared to researching and with more shops, you see it happen more often.
We have great artists here but you will wait for them and they are not cheap. I booked January 1 for an appointment in September to get the guy I wanted. Most people do not want to wait and will just go anywhere. If they would be more discerning it would drive talent up but you know people; they want a tattoo and they want it today
So fascinating that they let the simplest, most first-grader tier drawing of a tattoo win over the AP art tier liberty bell

Undortunatly sometimes when they judge they forgive/forget shitty drawings and go for the people who can’t do outlines or shading etc.
That bottom bike should have been enough to send her home. Those wheels were wonky. I'd rather have a backwards knife handle than a child's drawing of wheels.

im late to this conversation but ive been binging this show and ive noticed so much sexism from the judges, its actually kind of appalling and really just shows how old school some of these people are

The fundamental problem with most of the contestants in Ink Master is obviously never having had formal art training.......Beginning with flawed design structure is the beginning of the end and no amount of shading or colour saturation can save a badly drawn image.
The knife schematic was a butcher job all around. That is a poor representation of a USMC Ka-Bar. Yes the guard/bolster which was chosen was backwards, but that’s not what the ka-bar has on it (I’ll leave it there rather than go into every issue with it). It’s her fault as the artist, she should’ve researched it more, but honestly if you’re a guy asking for that then you should be prepared to explain/show it. Most people aren’t knife enthusiasts, so I wouldn’t expect a tattoo artist to know this. The client messed up there too. This tattoo requires far more research to get right.
The other tattoo artist recognized it though, and I doubt he’s a knife enjoyer. It’s a bad mistake.

I actually liked the kraken much more than that baseball bat. Much more visually appealing, and the lights actually kinda look like neon lights. The bat had terrible color/shading, failed at getting neon glow and I personally dont think its a cool concept or look to just put Christmas lights on a baseball bat for some reason. The kraken one could be improved, but Id definitely rather have the kraken tattoo on me

I think I have a fairly good assessment of aesthetic in art, composition, shading, and I’ve watched maybe a hundred of these episodes and agree with the judges in 95% of their excellent analysis.. but that black girl who tattooed that BELL?!?!? What the hell am I missing here: that was INCREDIBLE ARTISTRY; detail was OUTSTANDING! Can someone please explain what the hell she did wrong?!? Did she break some “tattoo stylistic” unspoken rule?! Baffled on that 1 … 😕

I love how proud everyone was of their tattoos in the first clip. Especially since I know this is called Worst Tattoos of season 13!
The bell was awesome! Maybe it needed something around it pulling it together,.. but you don't have to put black in every tattoo. Some of the more realistic tattoos I've seen, have very little black.
Imagine you sit for hours getting a big permanent tattoo and hear a judge say, "It's a mess!" 😨

Even before they get the tattoo the others are deciding who the human canvas gets that'll screw the tattoo up the most 🤣🤣

Exactly. Which is fine if you KNOW you'll only be in situations to do that skill but when coming to a competition like this, it's important to unlearn and learn some stuff. That said, I respect that she at least gave a bomb tattoo. Like it's not new school but it's hands down the best one in the bottom and honestly one of the best ones of the day if it wasn't new school day.

The bell is cool looking but it didn’t meet the challenge that why she was eliminated, also it didn’t show contrast right at all.

People talking about the knife tattoo done by Arlene. Did you forget that in the original drawing the guard was on the right side? It was the canvas that told her to change and she even said she was on the right side!
And btw, how many times has the tattoo artist was screwed over been on canvas? I think this is very unfair.
He asked to flip the knife, and she forgot to flip the blade along with the handle.
She didn't flip the knife, she flipped the blade, thats a fundamental lack of attention to detail.
It was an awful tattoo technically but because it looked so simple as a design it hid a LOT of sins.
@@jediknight1294 it was still better than the bike tattoo 💀 like you could tell she should’ve gone home, her wheels were drawn worse than a 3rd grader artist. Yes the knife wasn’t technically correct but that bike 😂

Oh I hate how they gang up on women on this show! It could be a man with a jacked up hideous tattoo and a woman's that just had some minor issues and the female will get sent home every time.
it’s so stupid. they honestly need at least some female judge. it’s just so overly harsh EVERY TIME. i look at a lot of these videos and i swear for a majority of them, time and time again they send home the person with the stronger tattoo. idgaf if the tat has minor inconsistencies and the shading is choppy IT LOOKS SO MUCH JFJCJFIDKDK BETTER
Emac's tattoo was soo simple. Chris Nuñez said that his job isn't to look at how long something takes them. But, it should! If he spent all that time doing something so small and amateur while other artists did large, detailed pieces, then that SHOULD be taken into consideration!!

The judges are so inconsistent.
They’ll send home a great artist that isn’t afraid to defend themselves and keep the bad artists.
The ink on their own bodies aren’t very good. And navaro is more focused on his outfit then the actual competition.
I’m convinced they do that because they as well as producers think the show will get boring if they keep all the best artists until the end. I’ve noticed in a lot of the seasons they’ll keep the artists who are really bad (and are consistently bad) way too long and let the good artists get sent home on one bad day when they’re in the bottom with consistently bad artists. The entire judging process is weird and doesn’t make sense to me.
Basing a tattoo competition on your taste in food is pretty iffy to me. I can't believe that's how casually someone would take a competition with legit financial and career implications. I'm not even defending the tattoos themselves, but that level of subjectivity would infuriate me if I were the one being judged.

The squared tornado tattoo was actually the most impressive compared to everyone else's. Like he said, it's simple yet effective. If it wasn't there, the other tattoos would not flow at all.

This judges are inconsistent. Compliment something here then overlook the same thing there. I might be wrong since I’m not a professional but the tattoos being sent home just look too right compared to the ones that survived

EMac’s first tattoo was uber simple, but it was the smart play. He knew he wasn’t ready for the competition, so he went smart. I’d probably wear it over the Liberty Bell tattoo, but just because it looks like a completed image.

They couldn’t make it more obvious that they are cutting out Peck if they tried. Ever since he said he isn’t coming back they’ve cropped him out in the videos and you can see the dip in quality when they do that. Just leave him in, damn.
Never heard of the show, then binged watched videos here. Wasn't until around my 15th one that I was finally able to put a face to that judge's voice. Makes more sense now
It’s not because he isn’t coming back! Paramount sacked him from the show. They don’t want to give him credit on the show because of racists photos he took apparently; the network made a statement about this
