I find that so funny because if you look up his portfolio- if it’s not tribal, it’s color. I think quite a few of his tattoos are unique and cool with the approach he takes to coloring. The fact that Randy’s tattoo was called crayola art and Rolands tattoo was deemed “ok” and an “improvement” really makes me wonder if Randy was spitting facts 🤔
Jessica Mary lol no, Randy’s sucked, so did rolands but rolands was an improvement, not everything is homophopbic or racist, you can’t blame everything on your sexuality
PlasticNotPlayco first off the last bit is a joke clearly but in all honesty an improvement that’s still that poorly done has no room for the competition and I think it’s hilarious they gave him so many chances unlike other talented competitors who were also improving. Judging sucks almost as bad as those tattoos 🤷🏻♀️🥵
I mean in the contestants' defense the judges dont have to be so harsh about it lmao. A real critique is saying "the shading isnt all too good and the lining couldve been better, the design isnt really my cup of tea either you need a lot of improvement, you did better yesterday but you really dropped the ball on this one" the judges are always like "this is crap, i wouldnt pay you at all for it, i would much rather piss on it" Like damn bro😭😅 they aint gotta say all that.
Out of curiosity, I looked up Rolands portfolio because I was seriously questioning how he made it on the show. He honestly has a small handful of very nice pieces out of the 33 I looked at. His turtle pieces are very nice, his has a water color owl that’s cute, and he has a very amazing Japanese (I think?) piece with a woman surrounded by Sakura. I do find it funny that he stated that color wasn’t his thing when truly- if it’s not a tribal piece, it’s color. Looking closely at his portfolio however, his technical skills aren’t great. Particularly with outlining and shading. He approaches color in his pieces like painting- which works really really well for some but looks like a childish disaster in others. You can tell he’s from Hawaii in his work. Lots of aquatic and tribal themes- which he excels at along with pretty ladies. Outside of that niche, he does poorly. I also noticed that he’s a painter on the side. It seems like he tries to combine what he is able to achieve on actual canvas/paper to human canvases and not very well. Quite a bit of his better pieces look like clip art in a way. Anyways, I think the judges saw his portfolio and saw the few awesome pieces and were hoping there would be at least one time that he would yield something strong. Sadly, he failed. 😕
Roland was the worst artist in ink master but David was tattooing for 20 years and butchered everyone. I’ll take Roland’s generic splotchy Polynesian tattoo over any of David’s
Wait a damn minute. In the first three minutes, you're telling me they picked THE TRIPPED CAT WITH FAINT LINES, COLORS AND BAD DESIGN OVER A *BEAUTIFUL* SHIP WITH LITERALLY PICTURE PERFECT COLORS AND LINES THAT WERE SOLID???
"you do not let the client drive" contradicted what he said in another season where "you have to always work with your client or starve and not feed your family" cuz if this is what the client wanted, you don't have much of a choice, i.e. you starve.
Working with a client is different then letting them drive - you have to make the client think they're the one driving when it's really you doing the driving
I can see the ground where u stand but those are 2 different things, letting the client drive u the whole way thru and u tattoo every single thing they asked even tho it can fuck u over, that’s letting the client drive, working with clients is when ur using the idea they have and compromising on something to make it better for themselves and the client, but u are right tho, I get what u mean
@@White2530 Yea I get what you mean too, I Can see famous artists turning ppl away who don't want to compromise, as they'll always have ppl willing to do whatever they want, but regular artists would be in a tough spot. I've spoken to a few artists I've gotten ink from, and they say a lot of their clients are stubborn and won't budge, no matter how they break it down on why it would be a bad idea or why it wouldn't look good the way they want it. So they're in-between a rock and a hard space because you need to pay bills, but this potentially shitty piece will be attached to your name. its tough, I get it. Thanks for your input!
They are both valid criticisms, your job is to give a canvas what they want but you are the artist, you are the one taking concept to final piece and you can't let a canvas dictate the how of that. Its your job to translate from pencil concept to ink on skin. Its the same as a portrait painter, the commissioner can ask for things they want in the painting but they need to have fuck all input into how colours are blended and applied.to the canvas. You have to be confident enough to say no and skilled enough to explain why.
I honestly feel bad for the person who got that ship tattoo. Not because it was bad, but because everyone was shitting on a pretty solid tattoo. Yes, there are some technical issues with it, but the thing is, tattoos bloom over time, that soft look on that tattoo is only going to get better with age!

I liked how that one judge went: how much can you fault him for the design not being to your preference Cause this ?! They said it themselves that execution was good! Just cause you personally don’t like the design doesn’t make it a bad tattoo.
Grasping at straws I think. I imagine he felt like they should've been more considerate due to the complications he's faced (starting his tattoo career late, prejudice against homosexual people). But he signed up to compete against who should be some of the best tattoo artists despite being inexperienced, as he basically admits in the outburst.
that ship tattoo at the beginning though was gorgeous. I have no right to critique it because I know nothing about art or tattooing, but if he had just done more of a gradient on the sunset it would’ve been perfect.
Contestant number 1: creates art but there's one slight error when going over a mole. Roland: Creates something a 2 year old could make Judges: Roland that's not great. Contestant 1 you're out

They’ll be the same people to say the customer comes first and if you’re hurting them you shouldn’t be tattooing them. Good thing I know this show is fake, I only watch it because it passes time lol
@@chipped324 I think they just meant you have to direct them cause you are the expert and don’t want to deliver something they ultimately won’t like but do the best you can. We’ve seen it many times the artist has to talk people off the ledge and reign in their thousand ideas

One of Roland’s tattoos (the fish/aquatic one) is from an adult coloring-in book page 😂😂 it’s literally on my shelf. Are they allowed to do that? I thought they had to draw their own pieces
This comment is underrated bro. Roland is the worst contestant I’ve ever fucking seen😂

looking at how consistently bad some of these artists are, I'm actually wondering how they got recruited to compete
Ikr! Ik so many better tattoo artist than this, and I always tell them they should compete
Imo they are just there to serve this purpose... being eliminated and making it a little more easy on the judges
Drama. That's the only reason why.
Maybe they showed the best they had
Colorful Animations most people in the industry dont respect this show because it doesn’t showcase how good of a tattooist you are, so youre not getting the best of the best on the show

The fact that there’s 30 minutes of bad tattoos in one season 💀
Halos tattoo wasn’t even bad tho. All they did was show every elimination almost
I am so annoyed with people saying “color isn’t my thing” or “I’m a black and grey artist”. Why tf are you on ink masters?! INK MASTERS!!!! You have to be able to do everything.
To be a tattoo artist, you have to be able to do everything anyways. So for them to be tattoo artist ls anyways, that's a flaw
Well, Ryan Ashley did win and she was specialized on black and gray.
@@carlasanchezdlf even though she specialised in black and grey she still managed some stunning colour tattoos though, despite worrying about using colour a lot
_ we_a_floff _ exactly, cuz there wasn’t too many upbringings of bad critiques to her tattoos that had to do with color, and she only had about as much experience as Anthony michaels when he ended up competing and winning ink master with lots of inexperience
@@colourmycosplay thats not true at all people specialize in certain areas and can have a shop thrive off that. Especially when theres multiple artists there with different skill sets
I somehow got to an ink master RUclips binge, and I gotta say these judges are some of the most biased people, and they genuinely have no reason for some of their critiques.
The fact that Randy’s tattoo was called crayola art and Rolands tattoo was deemed “ok” and an “improvement” really makes me wonder if Randy was spitting facts 🤔
Facts, the fuckery is so great that it makes me doubt myself
Jessica Mary lol no, Randy’s sucked, so did rolands but rolands was an improvement, not everything is homophopbic or racist, you can’t blame everything on your sexuality
PlasticNotPlayco first off the last bit is a joke clearly but in all honesty an improvement that’s still that poorly done has no room for the competition and I think it’s hilarious they gave him so many chances unlike other talented competitors who were also improving. Judging sucks almost as bad as those tattoos 🤷🏻♀️🥵
Omg no one gives a crap if he gay hell only cared was him
Yeah that sounded like a cop out but when you consider that Roland stayed over him, damn maybe he’s fkin right lmfaoooo

Randy: "You're just saying that because I'm gay."

Victims will always revert to their victimhood, even if they aren’t actually victims.
It's what the Democrats celebrate, of course they will use it anytime they are challenged.

Roland: “I won’t let you down”
Also Roland: Does trash tattoos
Roland was the worst artist in ink master but David was tattooing for 20 years and butchered everyone. I’ll take Roland’s generic splotchy Polynesian tattoo over any of David’s

Wait a damn minute. In the first three minutes, you're telling me they picked THE TRIPPED CAT WITH FAINT LINES, COLORS AND BAD DESIGN OVER A *BEAUTIFUL* SHIP WITH LITERALLY PICTURE PERFECT COLORS AND LINES THAT WERE SOLID???

"you do not let the client drive" contradicted what he said in another season where "you have to always work with your client or starve and not feed your family" cuz if this is what the client wanted, you don't have much of a choice, i.e. you starve.
Was waiting to see if anyone else picked up on this
thts true
“You can’t let the canvas drive” yet he told Julia on a different season “either give the canvas what they want or you and your family can starve”

@@Warriorsoul101 Literally the only judge I have complete respect for is Dave.
@@raychelgonos He doesn’t even have a place as a judge. All his tattoos suck and he’s not even an artist.

I really liked when Chris was like “you’re not going to be bashed on your sexual preference, you’ll be judged on your tattooing”
it shows his professionalism, but also the artist saying he’s gay was so out of the blue like that has nothing to do with tattooing
