The Black ops 1 and Black Ops 2 were actually an inspiring factor for me to study criminology at college, taking a lot of psychology, politicology and writing papers on government crime and private security with some history classes. Cold war came out after i already obtained my masters degree but i loved the campaign and it reminded me instantly why i loved those games in the past. The aspect of false and repressed memories was actually brought pretty well for being a first person action shooter.
WAW and BO1 made me a history buff when I was 10, I had no idea who Castro or McNamara were until COD, BO2 made me learn about the nation of Angola, Savimbi, Oli North, and Noriega. Cold War with Perseus and DUGA-3.
I think the main reason they're putting out their cigarettes is out of respect of Reagan quitting smoking. That's also why he always had jelly beans on his desk.
I think the reception of the campaign was really good. Everyone who played it thoroughly enjoyed it, but the zombies and multi-player were a different story. l
Wow a history teacher who actually appreciates video games I remember back in my days of high school when cold war ww2 were topics of discussion i uses to play a lot of world at war and black ops 1 and let's just say my teachers were not impressed with me knowing stuff all because i learned them from these games instead of their classes and the textbooks
i feel you, man. they do be thinking that video games ruin everyone's mind but those teachers are just jealous that video games are actually useful and giving you some history lesson, although not so accurate but still good history nontheless
One really small but really neat detail in BOCW is in the scene when you meet Ronald Reagan. As he enters the, Russell Adler puts out his cigarette out of respect but also because Regan at the time was giving up smoking. If you pay attention you can see a jar of jellybeans on the table, something he used to help smoking but was also apart of his public image. In the bad ending of the game, you go to the duga and can see the Duga radar in Chernobyl Ukraine. Though the Chernobyl disaster didn't happen yet in this point of the black ops timeline, it may be possibly mentioned in bo6 going over what happened between Cold War and BO6
Its definitely top 3. I'd personally go black ops 1, 2 then CW. I like BO1's campaign doese the MK ultra angle a little better & BO2 was a good sequel story wise but CW barely loses out compared to BO2
Lot of BO1 fanboys hate this game because the voice actor change but it honestly got better the more it aged. The only issue I have is that it's too short so that they could've touched upon even more cool Cold War events like Grenada and Falklands (would've been a cool Park mission), maybe also add a mission where you pilot a chopper gunning down Escobar or something do too his links with the new Menendez cartel/Volkov, maybe the US accidentally gives Iraq Nova 6 during the Iran-Iraq War, maybe fighting against tanks in a heavily beefed up upgraded tank like Toyota you can design yourself ingame during the Chad-Libyan War, hunting Perseus agents as a 5th Battalion Mercenary in the Congo. With the level of immersion and open worldness this game had, it should've been like 8 hours (I know the pandemic shortened it, but they should've been given more time to really sculp it's true potential). Besides that Cold War is a solid game with solid characters and a solid villain with solid missions (like the KGB HQ raid and the New Mexico mission which was unique because it was US soil, the hallucination mission is one of my favorites in all of cod). I didn't want it to end so early. The little Easter eggs/things and choices you can do in this gane are legit amazing, great replay val, you can tell the devs were making it with their heart but they had to shorten it sadly. Nothing about the campaign really felt flat even if it was kinda short. The game also made me go down the Duga rabbithole. Damn I wish there was an ending where the "bad" ending is canon but they keep Mason, Woods, Hudson alive
@@Metallimad06 the game was basically developed within a year. Sledgehammer was originally supposed to develop it but it fell through and treyarch was left to pick up the pieces, and they got Raven to do the campaign as a last resort. The fact that it ended up as well as it did is pretty astonishing and they struck gold with the partnership of raven and treyarch. Black ops 6 will have 4 years of development time so i expect it to blow CW out of the water
@jayceneal5273 Yeah man, the first mission that's out now is pretty sick. Tbh I don't care about multi-player anymore that everyone is on about, I just want a good history buff pleasing story. It'd also be cool if the campaign namedropped Billy Waugh (the real life man that inspired Frank Woods who also was in the Korean War/Vietnam and hunted down Bin Laden), since he passed away last year and the game is 1991-2003 based. It'd be a neat tribute
Cold War's campaign is on par with the golden age of COD from 2007-2013. We have an interesting dark plot with twists, memorable characters like Adler and Park and choices in the campaign that will make for different endings. I remember feeling really happy when i finished it the first time.
Found this channel randomly when your World at War video appeared. Honestly it’s pretty interesting to learn more information about and the details behind the game’s story. That earned my subscription.

You should definitely do Black Ops 2, although its like 50/50 in it being futuristic and historic i think even if you made a video focusing only on the historic parts, it'd be amazing.
yesss lets go I've been waiting for a new cod campaign explained, this is my favourite cod campaign imo. Idk why but all the politics and stuff is just really interesting. Relative to other games in the series CW had a hellish production and a budget mostly resembling shoestring and gum. Taking that into account the campaign is incredibly impressive and contextualizing it in reality further points that out.
considering that they even managed to make it AND release it during the height of Covid is already amazing to me. this game could've been unreleased just by the sheer amount of pressure the whole team at Treyarch was feeling at that time but boy did they pulled a clutch. the game is not without it's flaws during release but consider all that i just said, the game came out to be actually fun and enjoyable
One of male/NB Bell's outfits is Stone's default skin in BOCW's multiplayer, so I named my Bell after him (not knowing that Stone makes it to BO6 while Bell's having the afterlife treat him right, thanks Adler /s) not sure who female Bell's based off though :/

I love when they base the story on real events.
IMO why treyarch makes much better campaigns than IW
That’s actually pretty sick.
Imagine if treyarch made vanguard, they would have made playing some of those historical figures a badass.
@@nom3rcyinc.308 after seeing black ops 6 campaign i don’t think so highly of treyarch anymore lmao

A small detail is that if you kill richter instead of saving him in Brick in the Wall, he won't show up behind Volkov.
In the mission inside the kgb building, he can be seen sitting in an office if you don’t kill him. If you do, he won’t be there.
