My algorithm is working. I’m driving home, I have a 6 Hour drive and the first thing that pops up at the top of my for you page is this video. Not only is it this video, but it was uploaded 10 seconds ago. That’s pretty damn cool.
BO2 campaign is amazing. The branching story lines and locations are amazing. That "Old Wounds" mission in Afghanistan is still really fun to play through. And the predictions about 2025 were pretty spot on for 2011/2012. Global economies relying on Chinese resources for technology. Global reliance on Taiwan for microchips. Expanded drone warfare. Having a cheap $50 drone off of Amazon being able to take out a tank worth millions is kinda scary to think about. And the last prediction of groups using social media to communicate and acquire new members. Hell in one of the endings Cordis Dia attack the white house and burn it down. Kinda had something similar to that a few years ago at the captiol building. The writers behind BO2 definitely knew their stuff and paid attention to the world around them all the way back in 2011
@tommymaxey2665 Dude please. “Oh, people walking into a building. So scary!” At least talk about the BLM riots that if that’s what you want a comparison to.
if only they had predicted that instead of menendez, it would be a US president spreading the disinfo campaign and urging his followers to overthrow the gov't 💀 --seriously though, Menendez's use of populist ideas/anti-establishment rhetoric make BO2 quite eerie/prophetic. One of the best campaigns.
In my honest opinion the best mission in any COD game is the one where you shoot Mason and Woods gets his kneecaps blown off. That was sooo dark but I loved it. Good story telling.
One thing you forgot, when Menendez and his sister were kids, they were trapped inside a barn that was torched by an American who owned it due to an insurance scam. When she opened the barn door that separated a burning section from a non-burning section they were in, the rush of oxygen fueled the flame, causing a backdraft that horrifically burned and disfigured her. Josefina became Raul's purpose of living and due to his wealth, which he raised through producing and selling drugs, he spent the next part of his life taking care of her. He had already hated Americans at that point, but when Woods killed his sister, that was when his hatred became person towards Woods, Mason and Hudson
Drone warfare was a thing at least 10 years before the release of BO6. The United states used drones for surveillance and bombing missions and Obama was criticized for drone strikes that hit civilians. These days were seeing more disposable and suicide drones tho along with consumer drones being converted into combat drones by non professional fighters. Instead of being a multi million dollar drone used by Air Force or as air support, you have them at a squad level where each squad can get Intel on their position, use night vision from the air, and drop ordinance without calling for mortar or air support. Strapping a bomb on a 5k DJI drone and crashing it into a ammo depot is way cheaper than a guided missile.
When Menendez was a boy, he witnessed his fellow countrymen being tortured by the Nicaraguans who became the Contras. There was a real earthquake that hit Nicaragua in 1972, Menendez & his family lost their home in the earthquake in the game. A year later, his beloved sister Josefina got badly burned when a warehouse they were in was torched by an American businessman in an insurance fraud scheme. Raul Menendez & his father started over by selling drugs for easy money. They formed a powerful cartel that became reputable throughout the criminal underworld by the time the Sandinistas ousted American-backed dictator Anastasio Somoza. In 1982, the CIA assassinated Raul’s father, further embittering Raul Menendez. By 1986, Menendez was running guns in Afghanistan, & the weapons he sold went to Cuba, Angola & the Third World to arm anti-NATO, anti-American rebellions throughout the world. The death of his sister Josefina was the last straw for Menendez. He continued to sell drugs & weapons in the shadows for 30 years after what he did in Panama, & in 2014, he founded Cordis Die.
Fucking amazing recap dude, This is how you blend non-fiction with REAL events to create something that is truly unique, interesting, & fun. Raul Menendez is easily the best antagonist of the COD series & gaming in general. RIP Kamar de los Reyes, you truly brought the character to life, & made a lot of childhoods with this awesome story
Really good recap, but there's also a theory that when Woods killed Josafina, he was under the influence of cocaine since right before she was killed Woods and Mason raided one of Menendez's cocaine factories.
17:00 Actually, within the game, the invisibility tech was extremely recent, as shown when Section and his squad are pretty much the ones to discover the SDCs development of it
idea for a future video: your historical analysis on metal gear solid v, as the game deals in part with some of the liberating forces throughout afghanistan and angola
I love you brought up the loud rock music during Just Cause. One thing to add, it wasn't done as a psychological manipulation tactic, but because he was taking refuge in the Vatican City Embassy and the Pope saw rock and roll as the devils music, which eventually led Vatican City giving up Noriega
12:17 I find that "I fought the Law" technically is considered more as a punk song and the article coins it as "heavy metal" a very funny statement in itself.
Thank you for your history lesson, sir. It's amazing that a history teacher decided to go back to a decade-old game to share his wisdom, giving valuable background info to many of our beloved childhood game. I especially enjoyed your analysis of the 2025 predictions.
This game came out when I was in high school, still the best CoD game IMHO. It inspired me to write a research paper about the Soviet-Afghan War in grade 11, and another about the Angolan Civil War when I was in university. And yeah, the parallels between the in-game future missions, and our world today, really shows how ahead of their time the writers were!

BO2 is definitely the best campaign out there. I’ve replayed it numerous times over the years and still have fun. I think my all time favorite level is Colossus, where we infiltrate this massive artificial island to look for a woman Menendez wants. And Menendez himself is definitely one of if not the best villains in the franchise. I love his story. Now, it’s time for some BO6. Also, there’s been tons of talk about a potential remaster for BO2, and while that would cool, personally, I don’t want it remastered. I recommend for you to analyse the medal of honour 2010, which is set in early years of war in afghanistan. Unlike the call of duty black ops it gives a realistic, ground view of an real world d conflict and the game's villains are also real!!
Love this series
Greetings from Nicaragua, excelent video!
Thank you for watching! I’m honored that you enjoyed it
its like a video was tailor made for me to enjoy lol
I hope you do your explain series on other games like assassin's creed or the age of empires game series, would love to see how you present those!
killed it as usual
Loved your video! Black Ops 2 has always been in my opinion the best Call of Duty game. I played it so much growing up even though I was probably too young 🤣 If you want a original Xbox rare fps Vietnam game, I highly recommend men of valor. It's kind of hard to track down Aunt. It's a bit dated but there aren't many first person boots on the ground regular soldier Vietnam games with a story that you care about
I’ll have to check that out thank you for the suggestion!
