Awww, I adore the dedication to editing out Diva's wagging tail instead of finding another dog or hurting her. Gives me a little more faith in that "no animals were harmed during the making of this film" disclaimer
I hate docking tails. It's one of the primary body language communicators for dogs to other dogs. Docking tails and ears because it's the 'fashion' is cruel. I really like that it seems like a lot of dog trainers don't dock their tails, even though it means more work in editing.
I recently saw an independent horror short film where one of the main characters was a dog who could see the alien monsters that her owner couldn’t. They worked together to fight the monsters off and they were so communicative and in sync despite no commands or even dialogue at all being spoken by the owner. I was in awe learning that the dog WASNT PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED, she was just the Director’s dog that happened to inspire the plot of the movie by constantly staring and barking at nothing in her day to day life. Some of the best dog acting I’ve ever seen. They are currently developing a feature length version.
The intro of this video reminded me so much of Bolt. Bolt is literally Dog Truman Burbank but instead of figuring out his life is a lie inside of the set, he accidentally escapes to the real world and wants to go back to the fake world for his owner, Penny.
haha i said out loud "because it's a wolf" split second before he said it. I grew up with wolf dogs. They are just as expressive but choose more subtle body language. Heck, my hybrid is laying near me right now. I always say, of my 3 dogs- if a robber broke in, it's not the 2 that would bark he needs to be afraid of, it's the silent still shadow of a wolf dog.
Makes sense in hindsight. If it were a pure husky, there’s no way they would have gotten it to sit still or quietly enough for even a single shot lmao. Huskies and their chaos.
74 movies, around 622 cuts, some thousand of hours in reaserch and editing(from what I can guess), all for one purpose to show how good dogs are acting. Really loved your video theme and especially your presentation.
Have you seen mad max 2? That dog made the movie. It was supposed to be put down but George Miller saved him. And he was surprisingly good at acting. He learned it in 2 weeks. And he steals every scene.
The wagging tail fact is one of my favourite things about dogs in movies. It happens a lot, the dog actors are so happy to be receiving instructions and praise for completing them that they can’t help themselves. They know they’re doing a good job and they’re just so pleased about it.
I really appreciate you adding the animated dogs. In the movie industry animation is so undervalued just because the general public see it like just for kids, that's why I hate live actions based on animations, because people won't watch a "cartoon" but will watch "real people" acting even if is the same plot. And animation was not intended for kids but is a way of cinematography to achieve in believable ways things and words that ain't capable in any other way of acting. animators like Aaron Blaze make an extraordianry work portraying animation animals in both realistic and fantastic ways, but since the words is so stuck in a worng idea about animation that work won't brighten and they'll prefere cheap and unrealistic CGI.
I really, really miss the classic animation style. I get that 3D animation is cheaper and easier (just in the proportions/placement aspect, not saying it’s easy at all) but there’s just not that same emotion, every intentional stroke of a pen all coming together to make some fantastical and exaggerated character. I wish Disney would step up their game again and put out a proper animated movie
And animation isn't easy. I used to draw a lot, and could do some fairly decent portraits. But I've tried drawing cartoons... no go. Completely different kind of art.
I was about to say i swear some of the best RUclips videos come from channels with 10-50k subs, if he uploads often enough hopefully the algorithm catches him more because this level of editing can’t be easy
No one asked but it's a little known fact among the masses: Dogs do quite often wag their tail during attacks! We like to anthropomorphize them and think oh, "tail wagging means the dog won't show aggression" and that is not the case. I wish they would've kept the tail in for this reason.
@@brittanygreen127 The tail wag a dog would have during an attack would look different than a happy tail wag, though. Happy tail wags are the loose, wiggly kind of tail wags that were removed digitally from that dog; aggressive or alert tail wags look much more stiff and often are high up so that the scent gland is more expressed. So yes, dogs can wag their tails during attacks, and people should know that not all tail wags are good-but the dog was doing unambiguously happy tail wags there
Hands down one of the best analysis videos I've seen on here. The scene in The Mask where Milo's jumping?? And when he refuses to put down the toys?? I can't believe that was improv, it gave both Milo AND his relationship with Stanley such realistic chemistry. Thank you for putting this video together, it was a fantastic watch.
Rin-tin-tin was an unique dog. Didn't require months of training. According to the people who worked with him on his movies, the trainer walked him through his spots and actions. Then, he would do them on film. They also said he had no patience with people who messed up. He would growl and snap at them. He wasn't friendly. He knew his job, and he knew his worth. He was a STAR!
That's funny and sounds like my dog. She gets mad if we don't follow what we said it should be a certain way. For example, if her bed is not in the right position she growls and barks at us to fix it. She asks things in a kinda humanized way. I really don't know how she does it, but some dogs do, I often see videos of dogs with similar behaviors.
I majored in theatre and in my theatre history course, we learned about an entire subgenre of 19th century melodramatic theatre known as "dog melodramas". These were plays where the main character... is an actual dog. How they did this, I'll never understand.
Another reason for multiple dogs playing the same dog (it was touched upon at 3:53, but didn't get into it past emotion) that a trainer once told me each dog has been trained for a different trick. One of the films I worked on in the past was Russell Mania (about a jack russell that wrestles). They had multiple dogs because one dog was for jumping high, another was for a different trick, etc (I don't remember it all, it was years ago). In any case, I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for your research and collection of findings! This is an aspect of filmmaking some folks forget or don't always shine a light on! But it takes everyone working together to safely make a film!
I mean, did u think they ACTUALLY just let dogs fight? Lol. That would be not only cruel BUT, would be a federal crime ! Although, I always wondered how they did it in movies like walker Payne, where they had actual pitbulls & fighting scenes. I just figured they did something like that though. My pits look & sound like they're killing eachother when playing lol. So could be easy to shoot a scene like that..
i own and train two Malinois, when they play - you'd think they were in a serious fight... nope - they are playing. when they were first being trained for personal protection, well before they actually bit, they were trained to the bite sleeve as a game. releasing, re engaging - everything - from basic commands to personal protection training - was as play or a game. that's where the focus and command come from. make it fun, to be serious all the time is boring. but when we need to be serious - its as natural as putting a shoe on.
@@BushcraftTexas Mal are fun ! I have a KNPV "mal" with some Rottweiler in his pedigree. Hands down, BEST dog I've ever owned! Had a dutchy years ago & she was a damn menace 😂 Had absolutely no off switch at all.
@ my two are an absolute hoot. Their switches are of two, either durpy durp mode or hell on four paws. I had to buy an electric scooter to run them to supplement yard play. I find my female is more vocal over the male who has an instant / no warning on. He travels very silent on his own unless I ask him to sound off. The breed is amazing, as you know - not for the casual owner but a very hands on (keeping the dog doing a job) family dog. I’ve never had to use them in a real situation - they’d be the last thing I’d send in a real scenario, but I’ve zero doubts I’d know danger is coming before it got to me, that the threat would likely pass me on and if I had to send them, the perp wouldn’t walk away in one piece. Best dogs ever! If you know they have to be worked and run everyday and 4 times on Sundays lol.
8:10 for anyone that knows anything about dogs, a wagging tail doesn’t necessarily mean a dog is happy. It means they’re excited, which can be both happy OR aggressive.
A way to tell between them is that a happy tail is usually side-to-side with a wide range, it could also be going in a clockhand motion. An aggressive tail is usually straight upright and stiff, wagging fast but in a short range. An aggressive tail doesn't go far left/right. (I have four dogs)
I recently lost a dog that came to us as a dump in our rural area. He was a gift, young vocal and sweet, that only lasted a year and a half. An accident took him from us and we will forever miss him. Soon we will get another pup, not to replace as we are in a ranch and have two other dogs, but because dogs are a gift that we don’t deserve and I can’t help myself. I will see them all over the rainbow but even if I don’t it was a privilege to have them all in my life and I don’t regret the heartbreak of saying goodbye. Not one bit.
We need a new category in the Oscars, Best Performance By An Animal in a Motion Picture. Messi, the dog from Anatomy Of A Fall, deserves all the awards, all the pets, and all the treats.
@stellviahohenheim how about treats in the shape of an Oscar for the dogs. Messi went to film festivals and red carpets, and he looked like he had a good time, but maybe it's just him. I find awards meaningless, but good doggies deserve all the awards. 😊
It's even more amazing that they had two really well trained cats playing the character. It's so rare to see cats in major roles that it's pretty mindblowing for me when I see it.
@@InvdrDana Yeah, not only do cats do whatever they want most of the time, but most cats hate strange environments and chaos, which I am sure they would encounter while playing a role in a film.
15:13 That single tail wag gets me everytime. My goldie girl does it exactly like that. After a long walk in the forest, I usually shower her, give her a big treat and take a shower myself. When I get out of the bathroom, she lies there, half asleep, but waiting for me. She then looks up at me, wags once "hey, you're back!" and falls asleep.
It's super easy to film a fake dog fight 😂 I have pitbulls that (if u didn't know them) look & sound like they're killing eachother when they're just playing! Could easily film them & then edit it to look like a crazy fight..
@daybreak_ofcThere’s a channel where a guy raised a Coyote from when she was a pup, but not as a pet so when she was old enough he started letting her leave the house but she never strayed too far for too long and so now she lives near him and visits all the time. When she does visit she often plays with his pet Pitbull and cat and it often looks and sounds pretty bad, but they never hurt each other. It’s the damndest thing and absolutely adorable.
In Full House Michelle was played by twins (Mary Kate Olson and Ashley Olson) largely to work around child labor laws that limit how many hours a day they can work. Two children playing the same character doubles the number of hours you can film the character per day. (Side note, I hear the Olson twins can look at any episode of Full House and tell which one of them it is in any given scene.)
I gotta say the way they did the dogs in the movie Strays was excellent! They used real dogs with CGI just for the nose and mouth area to make them talk. But they made sure the animation of the mouths looked very natural. I figured it had to be vfx of some sort but it was so well done I couldn’t figure it out without googling it and watching a video explaining it. So they got all the natural, real behaviour of the dogs and their real facial and eye expressions and only applied the effects where necessary. And they blended it so perfectly you couldn’t tell where the dog ended and the CGI started. I’m sure it wasn’t completely flawless and anyone with a good eye would spot them, but for general audience members it was really bang on.
Hey! My mom was an animal trainer on John Wick and we have the dog in the thumbnail (Princess- who is a she btw.) My family and I were so excited to see this video! I love it! Thanks for making this video.
The fantastic dog animation in 101 Dalmatians is part of the reason why it’s my favorite Disney movie. The scene where Pongo and Perdita confront Horace and Jasper is one of my favorites because it simultaneously showcases their anger & emotion, while remaining totally realistic to how a dog would act in that situation in real life
I wanna comment on the short clip of the Pug in The Room, because that dog takes the premise of the intro even further. Not only did that dog not know they were in a movie, the people making the movie did not know there was a dog there. The "Oh hi doggie" is the actual moment Wiseau noticed there was a dog present, immortalized on film. The single most genuine moment of performance in the thing.

Totally agree about the CGI dog in that Harrison Ford movie. I never actually saw it, but I could never get behind the too humanlike expressions. It honestly felt like the dog was going to start talking at any moment.

I don't usually comment but this video was awesome. At 2:00 when you're showing that scene and then just follow it up with "We showed a bird" I geniunely started cracking up. It's insane how wholesome and funny dog acting is. Geniunely fantastic video, I hope you have an amazing day.
I hadn't seen that one, but I saw the second 'A Dog's Journey' and it was just incredible. Seeing all the stuff that goes into a normal movie with a dog makes it boggling on a new scale to imagine multiple doubles for the different lifetimes of the main narrator.
I work in a veterinary er and that shot was scary accurate. Not necessarily shocking to me, but I can definitely see how it’s incredibly shocking to those not used to critically ill dogs. The effects added to the eyes really go the extra mile to sell it but the way the dog was so limp and barely responsive, and the way he was holding his mouth too! Looks like a border collie, they’re very intelligent, unsurprising (but still remarkable) they were able to train such a performance
between "we should immortalize dogs exactly as they are" and "all dogs go to heaven isn't a good dog movie" what i got out of this is that you are definitely not a furry
One of my favourite dog movie facts is in Cugo, they had to tie the different dogs tail to his leg to hide their wagging tail. The scene would be a mother and son fearing the rabid dog but in reality the dog was just so happy they had to hide it or they scenes wont work
Dogs are so precious. I love the saying of “They’re a small chapter In your life, but to them you’re their whole world” Dogs should be cherished and never abused. They love unconditionally and will give their lives to save you if the need arises, without a second thought. I hate that so many of them loved the wrong people in their short lives. I hate what happened with Covid cus so many dogs were made to believe they got furrever homes only to then be abandoned years later when Lock up lifted. 😢 I’ve lost a couple of my dogs and it hurts so much, their personalities really make them feel like they are 100% family and when they pass it’s an unimaginable pain.
6:45 to my understanding those dogs are now living happily with Halle Berry and the story is she has a sign on her porch warning people NOT to wear that color of green. I heard it from a friend who lives in the area and has seen Halle running with the dogs before.
It's really awesome how she dedicated so much extra time to learn dog training and then take them afterwards and keep them! It's pretty clear she really loves dogs.
She did not keep the dogs,a simple Google search revealed that for me ... Why lie? Halle berry is a beautiful person who doesn't need people lying with her name, might disappoint give people a dumb reason to not like her ❗
One of my favorite shows as a kid was Wishbone, which put a Jack Russell Terrier into a bunch of classic literature stories. 10/10 fantastic idea to trick kids into reading more. I'm going to care about a story more if there's a dog in it.
That was a fun show. And if I remember correctly they used 2 dogs for the show. One for all the energetic action and the other for the still calm parts.

If this was reflective of bolt than the dog from homeward bound would have been legitimately feeling abandoned by a boy he loves instead of having to be shown a bird to grab an equivalent emotion. The dog from bolt completely understands the storylines and emotions he's playing, and the hook is that he doesn't know it's pretend. Real dogs understand none of that, they're just being pushed from one action to one expression by cues and manipulation So, um, no.
There’s a werewolf movie, I can’t remember the name, but the main protagonist is a German Shepard. He’s the only one that knows this guy is dangerous and he does his best to protect his family. Best dog acting I’ve ever seen, it’s fantastic
Everyone who ever owned a dog puts respect on the dog actor’s names after watching a great movie. I would watch an 8 hour video on this topic, excellent work!
same for Snow Buddies, a lot of puppies Disney used to film the movie died due to a virus they should've been vaccinated against, some where but not enough time was given for their bodies to be bale to fight it.
Do you have any sources on that? I’ve looked into it before and from what I could see there was never any evidence or really any solid reason to suspect that the animals were harmed. People watching the movie just *thought* that there must have been animal cruelty
Do a sequel video on cat acting? I bet historically we thought cats can't be trained like dogs so their acting on film involved more tricks on the part of the directors, but nowadays more people realize cats can be trained to follow cues...although I think a lot of cats just don't care for it.
I remember porch training my old cats (rip) and I have successfully trained my sweet little girl cat to NOT be a door dasher and have also harness trained her
It’s honestly pretty crazy, on a flight home from a trip I actually sat right next to the “call of duty dog.” That is in the call of duty video games. He just sat in the seat and chilled the entire flight. I was talking with its owners and it’s insane to me that a dog could make so much money. Their dog literally makes triple the amount of money the guy and his wife make combined. He’s treated like absolute royalty, that flight changed my life. Now when I’m at work grinding away stressed out of my mind doing a 4 person job. I now know out there in the world there are actual dogs who have retired early because they’re absolutely loaded… smh.. 😂
Ngl this is basically what the movie bolt was about. He didn’t know that he was acting until he got out into real life, he grew up thinking that he actually had powers
(Can’t believe I found this video) I think about this a lot. I have a German Shepherd and she’s so easy to train, but very emotive. Once you really know dogs, you know when they’re sad or when they’re ‘smiling’. So, when a sad scene calls for a ‘sad’ dog, but it looks happy, it takes you out of the film. I’m sure most dog owners will get this and how important it is. I’m glad some of Hollywood gets it too.
@@wizardmanaia4664Yes, the hound's spine typically slopes gently downward towards its tail, following the natural curvature of its body for optimal flexibility and movement.
I miss the days where the dogs are not cgi and emote like humans pretending to be a dog. Animators are sobuse to animating emotions and expresions on a human, so doing that on an animal who doesn't typically emote like a human but needs to show what they are feeling for the audience and drama just makes them look very weird and unatural.
Shout out to the dog that was in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". That pup deserved a whole box of treats for that performance, especially considering she was a shelter dog that was picked for the movie. From what I understand, she ended up finding a home thanks to that movie. I honestly think that should be a new industry standard; recruiting dogs no one seems to want for movies to get them recognized and publicized so they can be adopted and find a loving home. All dogs deserve love and the best possible lives we can give them. They love unconditionally, even when we don't deserve it. Lost my little buddy a few months ago, and even though he had a long life (18 years), I still think about all the times I could've taken him on car rides and didn't, all the times I thought about buying him a new toy and spent the money elsewhere instead, and all the times I got frustrated or upset with him. He had a long, happy life, but now that he's gone, there are things I think about now that I could've done better. Rest in peace, Judd; we miss you so much, but we'll see you again one day.
It's simple. For the screen, the dog doesn't know there's an audience, but does know s/he's playing, just as animals play with people in other situations. Animals understand play, and they understand that all these things they're taught to do are part of a game people are playing with them.
I had some sort of Pavlovian response to "Homeward Bound" because as soon as that clip came up I started crying jfc I haven't seen that movie in almost 20 years. This is so well formatted, edited, and most of all researched! Awesome job, I learned a lot.
I guess we would potentially break the world if we "fixed" this somehow and then they escaped to create long lived rodents everywhere with normal reproduction speed... but yes. It feels criminal their lives are so short.
And they’re always the goodest girl/boy. Milo from The Mask has been one of my favorite especially that wall jumping scene. And shoutout to the cat from Babe, the shots used were perfect for the story.
One of my dogs died almost a month ago and I watched this video with my other dog. I loved every second of this video and the ending hit really hard. Thank you for this wonderful content ❤️
Same! It’s my favorite movie, I think I have shown it to so many people already. So sad that it is so hard to get these days. Atleast in Germany, there isn’t even a digital version to buy
the final scene has been stuck in my head for the better part of a decade, maybe more, it came out 2 years before I was born so I have no idea when I’d seen it, but i’m glad to finally know where that old memory came from!
I watch a lot of video essays but I think this is one of the best I've seen. It's a super interesting topic, covered from different and unexpected angles thoroughly but not overbearingly. It's well-researched and presented. The jokes land and everything is kept moving. It's nicely paced and has a great runtime. This is a great video and I had a delight watching it. There are many video essayists out there, some more popular, but many of them can learn a thing or two from this one right here.
It's not a video essay. It's an actual documentary. Frankly, what most youtubers do are video book reports. They go to Google or other videos and pick up a few facts and repeat them. Essays are interpretations of facts using original ideas. Documentaries require a good amount if research including interviews with experts and hours with the subject matter. This person did the work.
I watched this with Parker, my 65 pound Staffy, stretched out on my stretched out legs. AWESOME video! I was laughing when you talked about the one Pitty that was supposed to be mean, but was always wagging it's tail. Anyone who's been around them knows that, unless otherwise trained, they're some of the SWEETEST dogs!
"Every dog deserves an owner; but not every person deserves to own a dog." Cesar Millan. I love dogs in movies. They bring out the best of their human companions. But I loathe how 9 out 10 Hollywood movies (as of late) makes you fall in love with a dog. Only to kill off the dog at the end of the movie. Though, in the rare case of John Wick, it shows how far real dog owners will go to avenge their best friend. This was a great essay on this subject. Bravo!
Unrelated but related (and I know this is a dog video) cats can be very expressive. I have seen excitement, disgust, fear, drowsiness, anger, and others in between with my two cats. And they exhibit the same emotions in their own unique way just like people! Their faces will actually change and their eyes will narrow or widen. Their foreheads can raise or furrow. The muscles of their faces move. I have seen this time and time again and it’s incredible! I think other cat parents can vouch for me too. So no, they are not inexpressive. It’s just much more subtle compared to a dog’s and you have to really know cat behavior and even an individual cat to really pick up on this. Dogs and cats both are very expressive and I can feel and see the moods they’re in. Such amazing and special animals. This is a great video and thought-provoking as well as informative and fascinating. I’d love to see a video on cat actors as well along with monkey and ape actors.
I always hide my eyes and mute the TV if an animal fight is on. I knew they weren't really fighting but I'm so glad to know they're just playing. Really good video.
i disagree with cats being unable to make convincing facial expressions ☝mine make the most ridiculous faces all the time, i think it's a matter of dogs having more prominent eyebrows and longer snouts than cats do, but cats have the added benefit of their eyes being more expressive. i think the real difference here is that dogs are more easily trainable
I feel like dogs will show their emotions on their face to everybody. Cats do that only when they know and like you. I can read my own cat‘s face like an open book, but any random cat on the street has a neutral expression for me too. And they will not look directly into my face as this might be considered rude in the cat world. My cat knows this is ok and will look directly at me. He has a little bit of resting bitch face syndrome and the vet says he looks like Diego from Ice Age, but if he wants something from me his eyes get a lot wider and rounder. He did train me very well I guess…
@@MR-rj2qw oh i agree completely! i just think they are a lot more expressive than people think, but yea its definitely only noticeable if you have a cat yourself
I would argue that people find dogs more expressive because they emote more similarly to humans. Cats will make the Garfield face like a cat but dogs will smile like a human.
People tend to forget or not know that cats have been around humans as long as dogs have, we've been co-living with them just like we've been co-living with dogs, and they also evolved to interact with humans.
What are the most people things that other animals don't seem to pursue in times of species comfort? Art, dogs don't make music. Dogs don't paint other dogs portrait, dogs don't sketch the landscape and flora, they don't document their emotions. Dogs actually make bad people. Huh weird. Huh weird.
Dogs never cease to amaze me. I'm privileged to have had one in my life for the last 25 years. I've got one now that loves an audience and will pose for the right incentive, i.e., food. Great video, thanks .
Really? Well then my cats must be the most stoned face animals ever, especially the kitten. I've never seen much of a expression on them compared to my dogs
The difference is that dogs have body language and expressions that are very intuitive to us humans; cats are also very expressive, but their body language is not as intuitive to us.
@@Serenity_Dee exactly! cats didn't evolve with us the same way that dogs did, so it stands to reason that the habits they developed to communicate with humans would be less extensive than that of a dog's. regardless, they are extremely expressive animals once you learn to understand their body language.

The fact that the dog in The Thing was a hybrid makes it even more perfect for the Thing.
I KNEW that dog had wolf in them! I had a dog that was a GSD+coyote hybrid, she was a sweet pupper.
haha i said out loud "because it's a wolf" split second before he said it.

74 movies, around 622 cuts, some thousand of hours in reaserch and editing(from what I can guess), all for one purpose to show how good dogs are acting. Really loved your video theme and especially your presentation.
The dog that is most prominently featured in John Carpenter's The Thing was the best canine performance I've ever seen.
Have you seen mad max 2? That dog made the movie. It was supposed to be put down but George Miller saved him. And he was surprisingly good at acting. He learned it in 2 weeks. And he steals every scene.
@luigi_border You're right. That was a memorable performance, too.

Especially when the dog transformed into an eldrich abomination of gore just when the cameras start rolling. Such an inspiring performance 🥰
@@AlphaOmega-jh6ll That was just one of those happy accidents. Made the whole movie!
The wagging tail fact is one of my favourite things about dogs in movies. It happens a lot, the dog actors are so happy to be receiving instructions and praise for completing them that they can’t help themselves. They know they’re doing a good job and they’re just so pleased about it.
Tail wagging is a sign of excitement, not only happiness. An aggressive dog can wag its tail before it attacks you.
We don’t deserve dogs! They’re just too good!!
@@MrGrumpyGills*stimulation would be a better word.
Once it became legal to advertise to children cartoons became "for kids"
I really, really miss the classic animation style. I get that 3D animation is cheaper and easier (just in the proportions/placement aspect, not saying it’s easy at all) but there’s just not that same emotion, every intentional stroke of a pen all coming together to make some fantastical and exaggerated character. I wish Disney would step up their game again and put out a proper animated movie
Why do you care what other people watch... Plenty of adults watch animation
And animation isn't easy. I used to draw a lot, and could do some fairly decent portraits. But I've tried drawing cartoons... no go. Completely different kind of art.
Dogs in animation have become so standard that even non-dog animal characters usually act like dogs.
It’s criminal how nobody has commended the insane level of editing this dude put into a video essay about dog acting

Its adorable that they had to remove the tail from the dog in The Killer because he was visibly excited and having fun lol
No one asked but it's a little known fact among the masses: Dogs do quite often wag their tail during attacks! We like to anthropomorphize them and think oh, "tail wagging means the dog won't show aggression" and that is not the case. I wish they would've kept the tail in for this reason.
I thought you meant literally for like a full minute, jesus christ

@@velocity9OOOYT LMAO and then the commenter seeing this surgical removal as "adorable" hahahaha
Rin-tin-tin was an unique dog. Didn't require months of training. According to the people who worked with him on his movies, the trainer walked him through his spots and actions. Then, he would do them on film. They also said he had no patience with people who messed up. He would growl and snap at them. He wasn't friendly. He knew his job, and he knew his worth. He was a STAR!
omg he was a DIVA 💜
That's funny and sounds like my dog. She gets mad if we don't follow what we said it should be a certain way. For example, if her bed is not in the right position she growls and barks at us to fix it. She asks things in a kinda humanized way. I really don't know how she does it, but some dogs do, I often see videos of dogs with similar behaviors.

I majored in theatre and in my theatre history course, we learned about an entire subgenre of 19th century melodramatic theatre known as "dog melodramas". These were plays where the main character... is an actual dog. How they did this, I'll never understand.
I think i don't really want to know how they did it.
I would still pay good money to see this, bring it back
I've never heard of that, that sounds amazing!
I hope not with abused, poor dogs
And here I am in theater watching the sound of music for the 17th time 😑
Another reason for multiple dogs playing the same dog (it was touched upon at 3:53, but didn't get into it past emotion) that a trainer once told me each dog has been trained for a different trick.
Honestly how they film a dog fight scene between dogs just brought the biggest smile to my face.
@@mikefrost1312 actually the dog fight scenes were just dogs playing around
i own and train two Malinois, when they play - you'd think they were in a serious fight... nope - they are playing. when they were first being trained for personal protection, well before they actually bit, they were trained to the bite sleeve as a game. releasing, re engaging - everything - from basic commands to personal protection training - was as play or a game. that's where the focus and command come from. make it fun, to be serious all the time is boring. but when we need to be serious - its as natural as putting a shoe on.
I was thinking that too, it's odd nobody told them that, would have saved them hours of VFX work 😂
A way to tell between them is that a happy tail is usually side-to-side with a wide range, it could also be going in a clockhand motion. An aggressive tail is usually straight upright and stiff, wagging fast but in a short range. An aggressive tail doesn't go far left/right.
(I have four dogs)
They also wag their tails when stressed.
@@Pinecone.the.Therian-m2u yep exactly. I feel like in that movie it could be seen that way and not as positive tail wagging

In Full House Michelle was played by twins (Mary Kate Olson and Ashley Olson) largely to work around child labor laws that limit how many hours a day they can work.

Dude me too 😞😞 I cried
15:59 owning pet rats is especially brutal 😢 3 years max
so true
Yea that’s why I didn’t get more after my baby’s died
I guess we would potentially break the world if we "fixed" this somehow and then they escaped to create long lived rodents everywhere with normal reproduction speed... but yes. It feels criminal their lives are so short.
the editing the script the research the choice of content everything is top notch great video man keep up the good
10:51 that sounds like he just casted a spell
And they’re always the goodest girl/boy. Milo from The Mask has been one of my favorite especially that wall jumping scene.
And shoutout to the cat from Babe, the shots used were perfect for the story.
When i saw Homeward Bound I got excited as heck! Loved that movie!
Holy shit dude the quality of this made me expect a couple hundred thousand subscribers
Keep up the good work! Can’t wait to binge all your uploads :)
That thumbnail is just hilarious. He's just happy to be here, and definitely vibing with Keanu's energy.
One of my dogs died almost a month ago and I watched this video with my other dog. I loved every second of this video and the ending hit really hard. Thank you for this wonderful content ❤️
14:34 i loved seeing bruno included! the only other ppl i know who have seen triplets of belleville are the ppl ive shown it to
Agreed. Above all, it's cute
Bravo!
And he’s one of those people
I always check does the dog die before watching movies
The best dog actor ive known was the DOG IN ANATOMY OF A FALL.
I always hide my eyes and mute the TV if an animal fight is on. I knew they weren't really fighting but I'm so glad to know they're just playing. Really good video.
I think what really made All Dogs Go To Heaven so uncanny was when Gordon Freeman showed up just to die in the next scene.
That was All Dogs Go To Heaven 2
*Gordon* Freeman???
Nvm, I genuinely forgot about that bit LOL
Hello Gordon
@@deadlined825 Hello Dr. Coomer...
Thanks to you I remembered the joke
Rise and shine Mr. Freeman, rise and shine
9:03 "Putsomeeffortintoit!" I cackled.😂😂
i disagree with cats being unable to make convincing facial expressions ☝mine make the most ridiculous faces all the time, i think it's a matter of dogs having more prominent eyebrows and longer snouts than cats do, but cats have the added benefit of their eyes being more expressive. i think the real difference here is that dogs are more easily trainable
Most cats are too clever/lazy for acting. As is their divine right.
I've always said that dogs are better people than people. And I'm sticking to that!
What are the most people things that other animals don't seem to pursue in times of species comfort?
Art, dogs don't make music. Dogs don't paint other dogs portrait, dogs don't sketch the landscape and flora, they don't document their emotions.
Dogs actually make bad people. Huh weird.
Huh weird.
You can enjoy your fecal ridden yard as art but it only counts as art because you want it to. The dog is just taking a dump.
You "dog lovers" are strange individuals huh
You cat lovers are sick... Toxoplasmosis is a real thing and absolutely disgusting.
You make documentaries more entertaining than most documentaries.
Such a great video. Thanks, man. Dogs deserve this recognition. Their acting is pure, their love is pure... They're really good boys.
Came for the puppydogs, and stayed for the puppydogs.
They're the best, and we don't deserve how much love they're made of.
Imagine an entity made of pure love. Hahaha, then you go and degrade it buy saying thats a mutt. All puppies are like baby Hitler.
Dogs never cease to amaze me. I'm privileged to have had one in my life for the last 25 years. I've got one now that loves an audience and will pose for the right incentive, i.e., food. Great video, thanks .
Stop why is this one of the most well-crafted video essays I’ve ever seen 😭😭
10:33 you’ve not owned cats have you? Their faces while may be harder to read than a dogs but they can be very expressive too
Especially as kittens
@@goblin-alleyalso we have been breeding dogs for 5 times longer
This is one of the most interesting videos I have ever seen.
A topic I never fully expected to find this enjoyable.
Great job.
7:09 wow that’s dedication
