I love the people going back and forth to the bathroom! LOL
And Jim doing the little sidestep dance to let them by that musicians who play in tiny bars know all too well.
Jim's Telecaster playing is of almost historic greatness.
You do not need the ‘almost’ in that claim. At. All. Jim’s taste, tone, chops, swagger, fire, garlic, swing, humor, effortless technical/‘tricks’ vocabulary (faux slide, behind-the-nut bends, killer volume swells, etc)& general group-/bandleader talent & proficiency... he is absolutely (no ‘ifs and ands or buts’!) a Guitar Great!
Not almost by any estimate
I love how he does all of this with the most utilitarian electric guitar ever made. No fancy effects, whammy bar, basically one tone aside from what his hands do. He doesn't play guitar; he plays the Telecaster.
Jim just has so damn much fun with that wood!
wish I could give this video ten thumbs up!!!
Tragic that the 55 Bar is gone. Jon on the lap steel was my guitar teacher growing up. It's really wonderful to see that he went on to play in such a fantastic group at a legendary venue.
Folsom blues is just exquiste along with all the oddities, just such a fun jam. Your'e the best.
Special shout out to that drummer too. Thats how its done.
Holy moly, that lap steel player is killing it. So is everyone else, but... wow!
Also the first time I've heard a lap steeler pre-empt the "what tuning" question midway through a gig.
Nice cozy spot for a gig and enjoyed the playing!
Awesome Great👍
Amazing
Brilliant!
Great gig, hang in!
WONDERFUL!!!
what a cool vibe on this room
Qué contagiosa la risa de la contrabajista. Se nota que todxs la pasan muy bien.
Magic stuff, thank you!
If I could name this type of music it would be called Cosmic Swing. Sounds old but yet so new edge. This is something that would play on a jukebox at a space truck station orbiting the planet Saturn.
B McMinn couldn't of said it better perfect
that's the perfect description!
Its jazzabilly.
I LOVE THIS MUSIC!
Love this!
Jim estás en Argentina (nov 2023) no lo puedo creer!!!!!! Éxitos
I have a good ear and can tune by ear fairly well, but the thing Jim does where he drops the low E with the tuner and pulls it back up to perfect (or close enough) pitch - while playing, with other people and a bar crowd going - astounds me. The confidence to even attempt that is impressive in and of itself. What a pro.
Shawn Pelton!!
This just does not get old.. Thank you!
He makes me want to take my Telecaster and play it for hours, learning and having fun, and I thank him for that.
Every week i come back to this video and watch a couple of songs (I'm nearly at the end now).
And every time I'm just filled with joy. The musicianship, the fun, the songs... God it's so good.
Thank you Mr. Mount for posting this!
Making me think of Jimmy Bryant and Speedy West,....
I think I may have watched this more often than anything else I've looked at on RUclips.I keep coming back to it and noticing new, great things in the music. And there are funny bits!
Simply best guitar player in the world.
greatest guitar today. Luca and the band is also awesome. Bass and Drums are really spot on tight.
Catherine is a beauty
It’s been a few years, but we made it to 2021! And I’m still diggin’ it!
Love it!
well that's just about everything I ever wanted to get out of a telecaster. .. sigh....... great live recording.
Jim did a berklee convo and he talked about the tone he had when he first started playing without pedals and he says it wasn’t pleasant and that he had to push himself to get better.
But He was complimented by he believes Jon Harrington the touring guitarist for Steely Dan.
Perfect sounds for what would be Leo Fender's 110th birthday!
Worldclass
This was lovely, thank you for sharing! Jim's a riot but it seems like his bandmembers are just as witty and lovely people to be playing with.
Fun!
As an average 68 year old picker, Jim and the rest of the band are just fantastic... so original and tight! An honor to listen to them.
As a less than average 67 year old one, I agree.
Jim is one of the hippest guitarists around AND he's absolutely hilarious
Shawn Pelton's solo, on "Ping Pong" is such a demonstration of resourcefulness, creativity and economy.
Tiny drum kit, without spazzing out, or losing the flow at all, he lays this perfect thing down.
This was an incredible set!
this is freaking AMAZING the coolest tones EVER..............
Man you folks are amazing! Cant stop listening to ya!
i like A LOT!
for a musician, most of this is downright frightening and humbling to say the least; but for now I will forget that and just enjoy this wonderful band
Masterful playing by one and all here. Top flight. Jims tone is spectacular.
the drummer is such a good musician. really serving the music in such a generous and tasteful way.
Love the music! Love the 'Freddy from Scooby-Doo' look that Jim is rocking also.
This came up on accident from an incorrect voice search, but love it!!!
@2:50
note to my self to learn this lol
Live at
55 Bar
Qwality Street
NYC
Jim's playing always reminds me of very Happy vacations at Disneyland in Anaheim Ca....................that was in the early 60's
Those were magical experiences , this Cats music......is a very cool Journey...... ......
Once in a long while you come across a wonderful band with highly skilled musicians that bring a smile to your face even if you are not familiar with the music -this is one of them excellent excellent!!!
I saw them last Sunday and bought the new disc "Last Night, This Morning." Sadly, I had to leave after the first set. Jim, Luca, and Roy played that night. It was amazing!
Pure Gold! Right there in NYC! Awesome!
Way Cool!
Outstanding music and outstanding musicians!
I love it when Luca plays a bunch of comp stuff at about 15:30 -- as a student of chord theory I enjoy that about as much as the crazy single-note runs
I've listened a LOOOOOOOOOot of music, and these guys just made my day and totally amazed me...freaking geniuses
Wow... came here for Jim, didn't expect to see Shawn Pelton! So much awesome!
Enjoyable! Thanks!
That Luca dude on guitar is sick too. His band The Thermionics play 55 bar a lot.
He sure can handle a telecaster great tone amazing band
This is bloody marvelous.
Would love to see Jim C. and Scotty Anderson trade licks.
some real musicians right here!
So enjoyable, fabulous evening of real music, oh boy!
Wow! This makes me smile so much! Thank you, dear musicians!
Freakin' great! Thank you for such cool music, you're all fantastic.
Great music!
Good to see Sean on the drums again,he was the best on lfdh ...that is an awesome combo awesome!
Wow they do Bryant's Bounce at 12:35 ! GREAT SONG!
All great - but Cat Popper and Jonny Lam are two of my NYC area favorites. Love it when they get to 'get down to basics' - lap steel and upright bass.
+Tioga Fretworks Yeah! I love both of them!
Great sound!
Great stuff - thanks for recording !
18:10 Johnny Cash

Great Music and Humor! Awesome!
Jim is a jedi master!!!!

Excellent!
Thanks SO MUCH for posting this video. I've been trying to get down to see them at the 55 bar for months now. Love the bar, love JC. Now I'm leaving the country for a while again, so no monster Jameson's shots and amazing tunes for me for a while. But thanks to you at least I have a digital facsimile of what it would be like to be there.
Love it! One of my favorite guitarist!
That was great!
Great camera angle for that joint!
Great stuff.

Just excellent!
Jim..Tele The greats
yo shawn pelton crushes this gig!
this is amazing
Really great !!!!!! just know this musicians..........
Love your little jam room, looks like my place. Your sound is right on, really refreshing and playful. Gives me hope for my constant playing.
peace&beatles
Bryants Bounce (Nov 52) at 12:00..my guess is its Jimmy's song..the lines just sound more Tele like than steel oriented. Wizards of Country Guitar"(JPS records JPS77144) has 25 tracks from these wonderful musicians. Thanks so much for this post...what a great gig !!!..hats off to the band ...and JC in particular...
+bluegoose555 I sorta figured that song out once, then promptly forgot it again
Awesome jam, no doubt about it.
this is fantastic. thank you for capturing the whole thing
Great chops!
This is fantastic!
