I grew up in the same town as Robben Ford and when we were in jr high school we used to ditch school to go listen to him and his brothers playing music during lunch break at the high school.
Such an amazing musical family and it was worth every minute of detention 😂
😆 🤣 😂 Saratoga. CA. Leigh H.S. here. We spent so many nights partying at the Paul Masson stone wall, rat-racing Hiway 9 to Skyline. Dropped a car fishtailing out of the S's into the 90° lt. to Saratoga Springs. Guaranteed fatal except for two trees that caught us before the vertical plunge. Guess who discovered Jesus soon after...
This was long before S.V. Amazing times never to be repeated...
What a show! Incredible muscians, listening to each other and playing together at a level rarely seen. I started the video waking up in bed and simply couldn't stop. Now that's a way to start the day! Mr 335 just oozes class, musically as well as humanly. And yes Robben of course is a god, and the rhythm engine room is so airtight and groovy you have to shake your head in awe. The whole package is unbelievable.
Robben Ford: Master of chordal melody
Larry Carlton: Master of melodic phrasing
Together: magic
Brilliant Nelly logic on view here folks!
I bought The complete Guitar Chord book, watched Larry and realised the book is missing about 200 pages!
😁
A very well thought out and appropriate comment.
lolz
304 to be precise
write that book
Ford and Carlton....pure bliss
They are killing it here!! Slaying!!!!!
I LOVE how the Toss Panos is using his sticks. Goodness, me. What a badass. The command of touch, feels, grooves, dynamics, colors, effectiveness, humanity!!!
Yep; and the whole band can play like that! GREAT MUSICIANS. Joe Bannana man , whatever his name is.... can't clean their instruments.
@@rockymntdan1 Joe knows this & acknowledges their brilliance as he should...
Well, Dan, he knows this & his humility in saying how lucky to have legendary musicians like Reese Wynans in his review; also he has the backing to pay for it & his voice is a great asset to expressing the Blues. But he is a huge admirer of both these musicians. RUclips has a video of a very young Joe playing with Robben. I am sure Robben would love to have such greats to create a band with. But he is a master teacher for the ones he has presently in his bands.
Toss Panos is one hell of a great drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
denerfed he sure is ... incredible touch and power when he needs it ... a joy
He is spanking those skins with ferocity and touch... He is as Al Dawson says.... the funkmeister...perfect for this gig....
I'll second that! I've been listening to Toss for a number of years and despite all my effort....I just can't figure out what "secret sauce" he's using.....His feel is totally his own!
Hey denerfed, i think you should've put 3 more exclamation points, cuz without 'em, it don't make no sense. It looks like you're being facetious or even ironic.
Agreed. He stole the show in my book😮
1.8M views and only 17K likes?!?!? What's wrong with you people?
Come on, Like and feel good. Brilliant!
Two of the best story tellers out there.
well said.
Four of the best, not two.
I am a complete Larry fan, and Robben does tear it up here. Two bad ass guitar players. Larry's son is a bass master.
Im 56 and I dont have a girlfriend. Why dont Larrys son play the bass? Father n son? on no second look maybe is his son, weird ha? I tried to make my kid bro once play somethin, no: he studied 2 years Computers, got a job and a lawyer wife, after a legal trick they did to me, who cares for them, they said no babies, a weird selfish twisted moneygrubbing married couple!
TTM I hear u, but is it necessary here? if u want me to remove it, i will, just not good place to say this. Doesn't mean I am not compassionate for other's sufferings.
He's a bass pro.
All together brilliant musicians, a pleasant experience! I love it❤️
Whenever I lose my interest or get stalled in playing guitar, I seem to find Larry Carlton and Robben Ford. I love their styles and I can imagine so much stuff in and around the beautiful stuff they are playing. Even lyrics seem to come out. They are a true inspiration for me.
I totally agree!!
right, me too! if you like Roben Ford, go check out Mark Lettieri, he’s as good as Roben! i’d suggest a song called Montreal with his trio band if you are first time listening to him
i d suggest to any guitarist who s got into an empty space / no inspiration, feelin that everything you play ye played thousand times already but cannot find a step, or stairway, that d lead you on : just play anyrecord of an artist that inspires him/her, and simply play along. it works for me, anddid work many a times. though the genre may not be so important, yes, for me people like carlton, steve gadd s band, all music that sparkles of life - groove - surely do it. joe pass takes more technical. theoretical knowledge, but why not jam along with him, too ? sure it wont do no harm.
@@MrMajar9 That's a nice thought and nicely spoken. Good words and inspiring. Thank you.
Absolutely, 2 of the very few guitar players who can make their guitars "sing" . So much range, vocabulary, dynamics, delicacy, restraint, originality..... there's not enough adjectives :D
I have been listening to Robben Ford for a long time, but streaming is allowing me to really explore all the stuff he has done over the last 50 years...and THAT is a LOT of great music with so many people. Tonight was RUclips night...his interview with Rick Beato, playing with Miles Davis in 1987 and THIS gem from 2007. I couldn't pull myself away from it - great playing from everyone in the band.
Just discovering Robben. PRS Guitars just released the Robben Ford signature. She's a beauty.
Love Robben's rhythm playing as much as soloing. Tons to be learned there.
Drummer is sick. Some of the best right here.
+Mike Albanese Toss Panos and Robben Ford have been playing together for over thirty years.
wouldn't play that well if he was sick....Looks in pretty good shape to me. Nothing sick here...on the contrary it all sound very healthy classy pro!
maybe just a hangover
LoL, these comments
No question 👍
Outstanding..
This has GOT TO BE the most OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES of a band I've EVER HEARD
JUST OUTSTANDING..
Robben Ford's rhythm playing is off the charts! second to none
THIS bass player (Larry's son probably) sits the whole band down! Perfect groove, perfect pulse.... every single bar!
Good Genes
His nephew
his son
why guess?
It is Larry's son
That drummer had to be absolutely spent after this gig - he's fantastic!
In the midst of isolation in this new surreal state of the world I'm inducted into communal bliss state by two of my favorite guitar Gods and this band!. The chord tones, melodies, groove, and beautiful communication are a joy and good medicine for the soul! Yes, kudos to Rick Beato and Tim Pierce's dissection of Kid Charlemagne which led me to this!
I could not give this performance a better characterization. And yes, kudos to Rick Beato just for being a great presence on YT who opens door after door after door for so many of us.
completely agree with you rockmemodeo, it´s a real pleasure to hear this way of playing. I was enchanted like a mouse by a cobra...my ears where delighted.
Thanks for sharing this precious diamond.
@@cesarrenecardenascazarez2584 Yes, brother!!

You don’t know the first thing about the definition of “God”. Can God Almighty make a God?
Put on a decent set of headphones, and the sound quality is mind blowing.
Sounds great on studio monitors as well !
That amp deserves to be immortalized
It is...
This is the first time I've ever seen these jamming guys playing.I'm 69 and so happy I found them......Yup ,I'll be following them for sure.
If you haven't found, it yet, check this, my friend... you'll like it... ruclips.net/video/f64XZRRs0jA/видео.html

@@Migueltxum This link isn't available any longer. Does it appear anywhere else? Was it more of LC and Robben Ford?
Wow! What led me to this was Rick Beato’s interview with Robin Ford. New to free form musically that is so amazing.
Same here
ME TOO! Not to be confused with the other metoo thing... HOLY @#$%! This is some legit jam. Daaammmmm.
same. Of course, I'm old enough to have actually purchased the Yellowjackets album when it came out 🤣😂. So he's been in my subconscious since back in those days. BTW, the way Larry solos around 2:45 reminds me that my favorite guitarist to listen to is John Scofield because the way he speaks is so loose and "out there" sometimes - these guys bring me to the same place on this track.
That was yet another great interview by Rick, he has opened up so much music since I've been subscribed; stuff that was maybe overlooked in the past or certainly not fully appreciated.
Kato Perez me too!
Fantastic! They are all great. The bass player is great!!!
Larry is the best... in my mind.. he's a Rolls-Royce of a guitarist....
I Agree. But Robben Is Who? No Sloutch..
In the 1970s I discovered these fine players on late-night jazz FM stations. What a way to grow up!
IMAGINE HAVING LARRY CARLTON WATCHING YOU,SHAKING HIS AND SMILING! WOW!
Riveting! Never fails to amaze me how pop's most melodic guitarist in the late 70's/80's can get so goddamn nasty when he wants! True masters at work all round.
Robben Ford and Jeff Beck maybe my 2 favourite guitar players....both so skilled and tasteful. Larry Carlton is no slouch either. What a fantastic set this is!
So many things to love about this concert and era in their respective careers... the Noupaul era with the 2290 are some of my favorite Robben tones. The improvisation exchange between Larry and Robben is so damn good. The comping. Travis' active tone. The Rhythm section grooves so hard. Just killer, all of it.
So true...
Somehow, I only just found these two guitarists today, but I'm going to enjoy the rest of my life listening to their music.
You've probably been heard Them many times and didn't know it. Larry's on quite a number of hit songs. Robben has been all over the place too, though I'm less familiar with his career. But you can hear Larry on old Steely Dan songs like _Don't Take Me Alive_ and _Kid Charlemane._
@@aylbdrmadison1051 I know a lot of old steely Dan, thank so much for the connection 👍
Brother on bass is just so wonderful.
Larry Carlton's son
Thank you.
thought it was Robben Ford. Oh, just checked, it IS ROBBEN FORD, check the title or other YT videos by him, he is TOO OLD to be Larrys son! some ppl
Travis Carlton is on bass. Robben Ford plays guitar. It even lists the line up in the description of the video....some ppl.
lol, I was joshin ya'll anyway, hope your not pissed. I thought they were talking about Robben Ford being his son, and thought it was funny. My mistake. Please forgive me. I see you have impeccable taste in music.(for some ppl) lol sorry, I had to.
it's like god sent those guys to show you new colors...
it is
Awesome 2 Of the Best Guitarists in the Planet ❤❤🎸🎸👌👍👍
Goodbye - I'm reminded of so many wonderful tunes/songs/composers... just wonderful!
Love that harmonica sounding tone larry carlton used on his solo on Talk to your daughter!
Extraordinaire feeling j'aime good
Travis Carlton on bass. What a groove!
Let's not forget that jammin' solo by Travis!
That was some serious playing. He's got the funk.
This whole thing is off the chain. Toss Panos is a monster.
Toss is amazing!
You rarely hear Larry play “outside” and I love it soo much, his harmonic knowledge is 10 layers deeper than his music lets on, Travis n Tosh are killing that groove
I noticed that! I’m still somewhat of a jazz neophyte and I actually picked that up. It was very unexpected to hear that from Larry but he nailed it.
His inside is so large that there’s no outside left
Ray Romano on drums! Give him a hand 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Larry & Robben..sick combination!!
Love to see how Larry respectful looks at Robben. One King to another
Drum solo from 18:00-20:00 is absolutely MONSTROUS!
There is such a beautiful balance here between the intelectual aspects of Jazz improvisation and bluesy soulful expression like the difference between playing in a mode because the change calls for it and expressing yourself lyrically in what happens to be a mode. Awe-inspiring
Boog.
Agreed... eventhough this is so way beyond my capabilities to play... My ears heart soul and mind, definately sense the difference between true musical conversation and just notes.. This performance (from each of these accomplished players) is from the heart and soul...❣ Love it when It's like this..
@@dogfacedboy6947 boog.
I well remember Larry. He ws in our band, Tommy Winters and the DelReyes when he was just 14. He was an incredible player back then. Loved working with him. Jerry LaFavor, drummer
One of our early gigs was on Lapalma Ave. in Anaheim across the street from Knotts Berry Farm. Jerry.
It's great to hear musicians who show technique and feel.
All of these musicians on stage are top notch.
Travis, you are just tearin it up.you a bad man. Yes sir.
4 absolutely great musician !!
Elite musicians i seen robben ford last year best concert ever would love to see larry live.
man that bassist deserves his own show
That first cut, Burnable, is the most groovenest tune I've ever heard. 2 guitars a bass and a drummer, my favorite line up. Out of this world!!!Bravo!!!
I hear you, man! And THIS take is the shit!
This is just great. Robben Ford's solo on Derrick's Blues - restraint and power simultaneaously. But the whole concert is magnificent.
This is so refreshing for my ears since my Spotify account was hijacked by my 10yo daughter. Love it.
Joris Trooster
:-) ha ha
Amazing. Haven't been listening to LC for quite a while and totally missed that one. 4 totally crazy guys cooking here. Already 13 years ago! Now, after ages, I am finally in :)
I saw them at Britt in Jacksonville Oregon and Larry Carlton's guitar was louder , it just seemed like he wanted to be Top Dog but we all know who the top dog is. Mr Robben. That being said I think Larry Carlton was Robin Ford's mentor
Wow! I love how Robben Ford quoted Miles!
Tos Tanos on drums....amazing, ...as all the rest !! just wow
I've never seen Larry Carlton play. I'm awestruck. Simply awestruck! My God! His ideas are unearthly!
I have not seen Robben Ford either. He is awesome in his own right!
These guys were serious about this gig. They're tight. Good songs. Great solos. Their two guitars were made for being played with each other - they compliment each other so well...like the guys playing them. And like others have already said sweet bass and drums.
Bryan Alfonso
at 5:10 - Robben's tribute to Miles Davis - Jean Pierre!
As always!
Saw this Combo back then. One of the best concerts of them all, and I've seen many of dem' all... 🎶🎹
Thanks so much for share...great concert
What a treat, two masters. Lovely, thank you.
Damn give some love to the drummer he's so goof!
Saw Robben Ford with Jeff Berlin at Dante's in 1980 also with Victor Feldman and his two sons. What an experience. Robben was incredible at that time. Now he's sick, out of his mind fabulous. Don't know how you get that much better than those days in the 80s, but he did. To have two geniuses of guitar on the same stage should be a memory I hope the audience appreciates without question.
Music in the 70's was awesome. So many memories from the clubs.
Went to the Baked Potato to see Patrice Rushen and Harvey Mason. Sitting at the bar were Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Manolo Badrena and Alex Acuna. I looked around for Jaco but no joy. I was a total Weather Report freak and pretty much lost my shit. The band kicked ass. This was when Patrice had her big hit "Forget Me Nots" and that was the closer.
We would cue up at the Roxy hours before show time with 2 crews. One to stand in line and hold our place, and the B crew would hold it down in the parking lot partying hard. We would do rotations. Robben Ford showed up in line behind us. Talked to him for quite a while. But we always had elbows on the stage come show time. Saw Mahavishnu, Gentle Giant, George Duke, Larry Carlton and so many more. I remember doing lines out of the ashtrays and blowing pot smoke at Stanley Clarke.
It was music heaven.
GREAT, thank you for sharing
Where legends mingle. Nice post, thanks!!
There is no groove like this groove . talk about serious chemistry.
This is a concert I have seen and listened to several times, incredibly dynamic playing.
This is just pure awesomeness..
Toss Panos - now that's drummin!
This is so ridiculously good, I don't even know where to begin saying what I like the most.
The musicians are top notch! Great listening to great conversations.
The second song reminds me of "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" cool stuff. Also Travis Carlton is king, nuf said.
Totally.
yeah definitely,,I d say is just more than an hint
Yes, unmistakably ! - have you heard Jeff Beck’s interpretation on album ‘Wired’?
This is a masterclass by two of my all-time favorites. Thank you.
Wow terrific music, keep it coming!!! So appreciated, thanks!!!
Wow... Jeff Beck fan here. Larry and Robben have that same vibe and both of them are tops in their field.
Toss Panos Drums God
i thought i heard Thanos lol
The best blues - fusion guitar players in the world!
Thanks so much for this post!!!!
Mamma mia how much music, spectacular performance thanks for this gift
So awesome, like it was a jam session from another planet. So much feeling and soul from all the musicians:-)
Two of my favorites, I've seen them both several times but never at the same time, what a catalytic sound they create in this live jam!!
That drum solo in Derrick's Blues. holy F....
In Switzerland, 16 years ago. It's great that we can still listen to great music. It's too bad that so much of it was "then" and "there' instead of "here and now".
Y E A H ... infact . . . HELL YEAH. Going all picasso in the opening piece. First encounter with these musicians, thanx for sharing, awesome.
Love how Larry watches Robben as a fan does. Love this. thank you for posting
Carlton has been quoted as saying Robben Ford is his favorite guitar player.
He’s just eyeballing his Dumble amp wondering how he can talk him into gifting him with it.
These two guys were born to play with each other !
This is sooo good! Love these guys!
Amazing. Loved Larry’s solo.
4:36 Robben's thinkin.....dang Larry, leave me some licks, bro. Two giants! I wish I could hit LIKE a 1000 times. Fkn brilliant rhythm section too. Smokin.
What a feast for the brain! I, me, myself and my brain, with the help of our musical ears, are ecstatic.
Excellent Robben and Larry!It’s fantastic!!Woooooooo👍🎸😘
WoW amazing night , I was there, Also first time I had seen Larry Carlton and Robben Ford * hooked* what an excellent recording Thank you ,Grateful and Love Montreux
