My previous comment giver says it about right how hard it is to find A real good bass player and he made his own Travis Carlton is everything you’d want from A straight bass player
I'll just share my own surprise. Didn't know about Carton's bass-playing son until today so I looked this up and -- wow -- really knocked me out. Between LC's signature sound, the great bass playing, drumming, -- this may be favorite band of his to date.

I like trios like this because it demonstrates the musicanship and discipline and trust you have to have in one another so doesn't sound like a "train wreck.
I liked the little smile from Larry during the applause for his son's bass solo at 22 minute mark. Must be cool to be able play music at that level with your son.

BIG LARRY you make me proud man, after all you´ve been trough. bless your soul man and come back once again to Holland, here are the BIG ONE´s,Big hug man, stay alive
Jedi level of playing, and jedi sound engineering. You can hear the edge of the strings, the warmth of the wood, the skins on the drums, the tinsel in the cymbals, but still maintains the live feel. Perfect mix job.
Yeah that is A really nice way of putting the point's on the I you should watch Travis Carlton on tour with ROBBEN FORD THEY ARE BOTH GIVING FANTASTIC SOLO'S AS THEY'RE BOTH EHH THREE DOING HERE
Way back when......1976ish saw LC with Jeff Porcaro, Mike Porcaro and Greg Mathison at Donte's in North Hollyweird with about 30 people present. It was a regular Friday night gig for these giants. They really kicked out the jams after a week doing sessions all week. The set always started with a ten minute version of Room 335. Jeff Porcaro always played an un-miked drum set. We sat where ever we wanted. It was a magic scene for about a month. Pretty soon we were waiting in line to see the same band at the Baked Potato. One night during the opening raucous tune, Jeff Porcaro [RIP] put his foot through the kick drum head, At the end of the song JP announced to the band that he had broken his kick drum head. The other members of the band said in unison that they didn't t notice the lack of this very talented right foot. I play drums professionally and I always carried a spare. I wondered how JP would save the gig. He told the band to play a ballad and he scurried into the Hollywood night to find a replacement. In record time JP was back with a new head and within 5 minutes they were back at full strength. If you ever visit lLA and you have never been there you owe your self the pleasure of an evening at the Baked Potato ......................
Yeah, back in the days at the Spud when Larry Carlton played jamming actual fusion lead guitar licks instead of the boring mainstream jazz he decided to sadly go to and bore me to tears with ever since. What happened to the old great fusion jamming lead guitar shredding Larry Carlton? When was the last time he ever played "Point It Up" or "Tight Squeeze" in concert? This show here isn't bad it's just sort of boring music compared to those old days your talking about.
In the early '70's I used to see Lee Ritenor at the BP with his band including a great keys player I forget the name but he is legendary in the music scoring business. Those were the days.
There’s just something beautiful and elegant about the angle at which LC holds the guitar -it’s so consistent, so solidly seated, so natural and controlled, truly an extension of his body. Watching him play is like watching a world class athlete. I can think of a few other greats whose physical form is similarly natural and elegant: Clapton, Roy Buchanan, Tony Rice, McLaughlin. Contrast that with, say, the wild physicality of other greats like Page, Hendrix, or EVH.
All incredibly great players obviously, but drummer Eugene Coye is just laying it down all performance long. His Gospel/Jazz/Funk Fusion chops are mind blowing. Travis Carlton fuses well with Coye, and of course his Pop Larry. Love the whole concert
un jazzman qui n'oublie pas toutes ses autres racines rock, funk, pop, blues, rythm'blues; excellent; I wouldn't mind having a drummer and a bass player as he got !!!!

They are just three but it seems something like there are 5 players on the stage. A great sense of harmony, due to the pulsating job of the rhytm session. Travis is an unforeseen musical discovery to me. Solid and mature and playfull bass player
I swear that's the sound I want. My father was a bass player who picked up guitar, my bro is a drummer and I am a bass player! I hope to play some serious stuff (like this video) with them before we cant anymore! I gotta send this to my peeps :)
Tremenda musica!!! Impecable!!!! Lo escuche por primera vez en un barcito en un lugar aca en Argentina que se llama Capilla del Monte. El LP era "Solo, pero nunca solo" y a partir de ahi me hice fan de él.
I dont know if you youtube friends viewers remarked how Travis Carlton is able to give so much expression in his bass play even in more rythmic parts of the music ..he always pulls (or gives) expression from his instrument !
Soy de Rosario (ARGENTINA) Es excelente este trio de Jazz. Soy músico y la verdad que esto es algo digno de admirar. Felicitaciones a Larry Carlton Trio.
This is the third time I have watched this particular video and the thing that strikes me is Larry's ability to make a three piece band sound like a much larger combo. I think it's awesome!
I think musicians are happiest people in the world
@Prog Priestess Sorry my mistake:)), was too much beer to see what writing🤦♂️
can we appreciate the sound quality of the recording, just amazing - bass/drum/guitar mix is amazing.
I watch this at least once a month and never get tired of it~
Any guitar player knows how hard it is to find a good bassist. Larry just created his own. Genius.
He created a bassist and a half!
If you are still out there, your comment remains alive for all time.
A real Gangsta move.
Any bass player knows how hard it is to find a groovy guitarist. Travis took his father. chapeau!
Don't forget that Larry has great time, too. The three of 'em together are just absolutely groovin' to the walls!

Like the late BB King said, "it ain't the ones you play sometimes. Sometimes it's the ones you don't play that make it right".
Miles said the same thing, and that’s the most important thing Hancock, Jarrett and many others learned from him.
