Tony Hymas composed this tune which opens up a whole range of possibilities. And Larry and Steve did everything in this I had no clue that was even possible. Absolutely spectacular!
I've not seen or heard any player even try to imitate Jeff Beck but if there were to ever be a showdown amongst the planet's best, Steve just might be the closest to Jeff's sound and texture.
I know, right!? I listen to this daily and STILL can’t believe how good they sound! The only other band I can say that about is steely Dan, and they hired larry to play for them!😍
Luke needs more credit…He’s an “Alien” (musicians used to say Monster, but the sports world stole it, and we had to come up with another term) and writes from the Heart! 🥲😎 Everybody knows Larry is The Bar we all aspire to🥺🤩
THE PUMP Composed by JEFF BECK, from the album, THERE AND BACK. Japan has JEFF BECK Band Wars, which go on for two weeks. The Japanese musicians are MASTERS at their craft. They take it VERY SERIOUSLY. These guys got nothing on the Japanese musicians. Akira Wakimodo, guitar.
No one touched Larry Carlton's all around guitar playing. He can play jazz as great or greater than any of the legends. Look up Larry playing SO WHAT. or, check out the first number he plays with Les Paul. He's great here, but this is just the tip of the ice berg for this man. LC is my favorite guitarist.
You don't mean better, do you? Cuz I think they complement each other. The fact that they're different is what makes it work...just saying. Btw, the quote from Josie at 17:14 is the coolest!
Just imagine if someone really loved playing the guitar but was such a natural that they used their ability on the guitar to fund something they possibly loved more……like messing around with cars.
Their Rendition of beck’ work did not match the level Of el becko. They are two monster legends but becko had another phrasing style, another subtle sound , way of picking the notes, another thing on on his music machine,l agree.
I like Gary Ferguson's drumming. He sounds a lot like Simon Phillips, but without all the over-use of cymbals and double bass bullshit, that sucks the taste right out of his drumming.
This is Beck's song. His turf. What were they thinking? Mediocre. Bored after 2 minutes. Jamming and noodling around? Jam to FREE BIRD for God's sake. I have watched amateurs do this to Hendrix music... Embarrassing for players. Should have ended after 5 minutes...YOU SHOT YOUR WAD OK? I am not a great player, but when someone gets in my stuff on stage, well, he better know his way home. Know your limitations. Just sayin'.
Carlton and Lukather are big fans of Beck and putting their own spin on this tune is obviously in light of that. On top of that, this was a very engaging a wonderful performance. If you didn't like it, don't come here and whine. Go to another video. I'm sure Jeff Beck wouldn't mind if a narrow-minded snob such as yourself didn't ever go to one of his shows. Just sayin'.
@@shanevachal1457 Thanks Shane. By the looks of your photo, do you even know what a narrow minded snob is at this point? Go clean your room , put your dirty clothes in the hamper, and do your homework! ASAP! And tomorrow check out "Cause we have ended as lovers" by C. and L. Fantastic. But they don't get it done on this one. And also please put some time in studying the relative minors and progressions. And I expect a report back. Just sayin'
@@riverman-mk8pn Wow judging people's physical appearance really suits someone who's afraid to have a picture of their own on their account. It's from 4 years ago buddy from high school and at the time I was taking college theory courses, doing big band arrangements and writing the charts for a pretty phenomenal *cough cough* Steely Dan (whom Larry did many sessions with) tribute. I don't expect you to believe any of that but "relative minors and progressions" are pretty elementary topics. Go ahead and quiz me. Let's see how much of a genius you are.
OK So what a sorry effort. Lukather stayed on key the whole time, great. Like an insect smashing into a window over and over. Still didn't catch the eternal ear. Carlton is a one trick vertical scale old horse, but there's no real music to his work, not since the Crusaders. It's like watching Clyde Crashcup and Leonardo. Why would anybody want to imitate Jeff Beck, no one can do what he does, no one. They didn't even get the intro notes to Josie right.
Lukather stayed 'on key' .. okay. No one even tried to 'imitate' Beck here, you said that yourself when you somehow misjudged Carlton for being a one trick pony so nice job contradicting yourself too. I'm not sure how two of the most recorded guitarists of all time could garner such hate from you but I think in time you'll learn to appreciate them. If not, that's fair enough but I feel bad for anyone who doesn't learn to appreciate these two guys
Kirky Drums When you have won Grammys and toured the world and made millions you can talk..until then shut the fuck up and worry about when your rent is due.
My Brother ❤ Jeff would just SMILE and listen lovingly to these 2 CATS. !!!!!!!
It would've been great to see all three of 'em on a stage together. John Mclaughlin did it and we know how great he he is!
This is Larry and Steve opening up a can of whoopass on their guitars! AMAZING❤
Tony Hymas wrote this tune for all guitar players ... thnx Tony ...
A classic amongst my crowd. Thank You.
Larry's guitar solo gave me goose bumps ❤
What a beautifuj tribune. Love these guys.
Yeah! - throw in a quote from Josie!!! These guys are super cool!!! Thank you for posting this.

Highly enjoyable - best thing I did with 18 minutes today. Thanks for posting. Jeff would have loved it.
What an awesome nod to Jeff Beck, here!
Thanks to Tony Hymas and Simon Phillips for this great tune, as well!!!

Well now… if you’re 35-70 yrs old you’re listening to two of the guitarists who shaped your world. Just appreciate them, tell them “than
What a monster Larry is. No substitute for water under the bridge kids. Good luck catching up to these two guys.
Larry knows it all. He was a master studio musician for many years in every genre. Of course he can do it all.
Omg. That was too great. Jesus those guitars are off the hook creating. Wow.
Drum mix is big time goodness!!! Yay, sound guys who get it.
A Synergistic result from all of those Incredible musicians! A performance for the books!
I appreciate the contrast. Vive l'épice de la vie 🎄🎅🏻🎶🎵🎉🎊🍾🥳🥳
Awesomeness!
Luke & Larry
Oh my, I am so happy!!
Two studio aces and guitar legends.
I had a VERY good time watching this.. thanks for posting!!
Holy shit how good is this clip wow!!!!
I know, right!? I listen to this daily and STILL can’t believe how good they sound! The only other band I can say that about is steely Dan, and they hired larry to play for them!😍
Epic! Thank You for posting Our heroes 🙏
Amazing guitars of course but why am I noticing how great that snare sounds?
And that bass!
Gary Ferguson on drums
Who else noticed Larry's speed picking? MY GOD MAN! THAT WAS FAST!
Love the bass walk at 3:52! SMOKIN!
5:13 -- Lukather jumped on that quick once he realised it was going to feedback like that. Creativity supreme.
Luke needs more credit…He’s an “Alien” (musicians used to say Monster, but the sports world stole it, and we had to come up with another term) and writes from the Heart! 🥲😎 Everybody knows Larry is The Bar we all aspire to🥺🤩
The Pump was co-written by Tony Hymas and and Simon Phillips and was first released on Jeff Beck's There and Back album in June 1980.

I keep wondering what Luke has in his head, loved it!
Amazing forever

Nice , but no cigar. they are overplaying it . the song builds along with Beck's accentuations .
lolololol
Wtf are yall talking about lol, I personally find this song better here than the OG faster pace and more stuff happening Not disrespecting jeff..
Man I dig twelve inch hi-hats! ❤️🥰🥰
Greg baby!!!
Like to have heard Larry play this jam when he was in his 20s. Jaws would drop.
Way to Go Steve! Rockin that Homeless "T" Shirt!
The baggy 2000s clothes haha love it
Love lukather and Carlton but nothing touches Beck for feel on this tune

the Bass player is great! and others! Luke forever
He's dead now unfortunately, back in 2011. RIP Chris Kent.
Larry is much deeper than Steve, but both are great

Ridiculous utterly superficial comment. You should be embarrassed.
12:30 Santa Claus Is coming to Funk :)))
I LOVE that part 😁❤
wow, I ended up seeing this on my feed....is there more footage of this concert? WOW amazing..
Carlton is an Alien😅

Steve Lukather that is his name .
15.59 onwards...flippin'eck!!
*Lukather not Lukater
Lukather, not Lukater.
Luke is a great guitar player ... but Jeff and Larry are in a different league ...
I concur!
Just imagine if someone really loved playing the guitar but was such a natural that they used their ability on the guitar to fund something they possibly loved more……like messing around with cars.
Lukather's solo really sucks to this day (I should know, I was there back then O^O)... Carlton's tasty and excellent as usual.
Luke's on of those over rated guitarists..his phrasing lacks substance.
Dupree Johnson not sure I agree. Luke has played on hundreds of albums and written some very memorable solos.
Dupree Johnson
I’ve never heard of him until watching this video.
Anybody who says Lukather is over rated is obviously a fucking amateur guitar player. Get back in your bedrooms!
@@ricklewis5804 Shameful, to say the least.
"Are you ready? ... I SAID ARE YOU READY??" Is it just me or do these bands need some new stage patter?
Fix the damn Title, bro~
kind of dont like luthaker just bursting out into full solo mode early in the tune. and i am a fan of his more tasteful playing.
Who's the drummer
gary ferguson
Take a Beck classic and then over egg the pudding. Are the guitarists good? Yes. Does it work? No.

Beck is in a class by himself period these guys over play and their tones are horrible end of story
I agree with you, Beck can not be emulated. These geniuses rendition’s goes to the point when you are not willing to continue listening to this.
I like Gary Ferguson's drumming. He sounds a lot like Simon Phillips, but without all the over-use of cymbals and double bass bullshit, that sucks the taste right out of his drumming.
double kick and cymbals all clattering away in 7/8 time..jeez Simon it's "Dock of The Bay" fer gawd sake... not "Tom Sawyer."
Never heard this guy before. Marvellous player!
Please toss off elsewhere.
Too much for your brain cell to take in, princess?
