Been listening to Weckl for years and I have come to the conclusion that he possesses the largest vocabulary of any drummer in any genre. He just never repeats himself. His fills are ever inventive and evolve throughout the tune. And Corea's arrangements are a huge challenge for any musician but Weckl eats them up w/o any mistakes. A Master.
His grooves are legendary. Trance Dance's bridge is 😬 yikes. That's super hero stuff right here. And this live shows kills it.
He's my favorite but he definitely has his own bag of tricks like anyone else. But yeah, still obviously one of the best and always changing and bringing something new.
I don't really have a favourite player but that first track is just so silly smooth. Only Dave sounds like Dave. World class musician

His music does have a lot of vital expressivity and is cultural in both traditional and modern contemporary ways. He laid out a lot of musical slices of life for Latin music lovers to enjoy. So different from rap or hip-hop. Funky in a Hispanic style. He had a pretty decent long run.

Chick Corea was such an important part of my childhood because my father, a classically-traind Jazz pianist, inundated the house with it. I can't think of Chick without thinking of my father. RIP to both great men.

I love Frank Gambale, it's not just the ridiculous technique and mastery of economy picking, it's the joy of hearing a full-on tone, like that of a rock guitarist, in this context. Adds dimensions to the overall sound.

These guys pour their souls out with every note they play. That's why I love Jazz. (I play top 40 and prog metal too).
He often chose guitarists with that tone, especially in Return to Forever.

@@Hologhoul You'll have to go back a bit to the 1970's. Look especially for Al Dimeola on guitar, with Lenny White on drums and Stanley Clarke on bass.. He also played with Chuck Connors (on Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy IIRC) but his tone and style is closer to Alan Holdsworth, at least at that time.
Huge respect for Mike Pope. Never heard of him before this, but he showed great ability and confidence without trying to sound like John P.

I went to UNT with Mike back in the 90's. He was killing it even way back then. I got to take some lessons from him, but I was a beginner at the time.

I don't know how many times I've watched this video. But I can tell you: my throat always gets a little tight (or thick), my eyes invariably become wet and my heart is LIFTED! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Chick Corea!!!! And the band (each one of them) is spot-on professional and masters of their instruments.
I've never seen a greater display of virtuosity in a musical performance. My mind is blown.
I really like Mike Pope's voice in this grouping. Different than pattitucci. Great playing in this million note a minute extravaganza. Just a lot of great abilities all on 10.

Without question my favorite band ever. I have heard got a match 20 million times and I'm still paralyzed every time I hear it done because it's never exactly the same. I just can't believe that my hero Chick is gone. Rest in peace sir. 😢
I was a hard core metal drummer in the 80’s and 90’s until I got a copy of The Elektric Band album. After hearing Dave Weckl I was HOOKED. Weckl is a MONSTER and put a lot of my rock “gods” to shame. LOVE DAVE!!!

I played on that stage once and the crew was fantastic. listening to the great sound of this concert, I think, any musician /bandleader should actually get the names of at least the mixers/sound engineers and they should be announced as much as referencing to the fantastic team that had all the work to make the musicians shine...

Frank was great for guitar on this collaberation. This is really his style and at home. What a great group and I agree with the previous comment on Weckl, his versatility is always in the groove and his inventive sound is never ending. They are all great and hope they can work together again. It is sad to see Chic has passed. He left years of great recordings.
