    Odd one Out is probably my favorite since it’s so lighthearted and goofy. I always liken it to the adage that “You can’t truly love something unless you can laugh at it.” Also, it had some pretty good action scenes. You don’t usually see Spartans actually throwing fists too much, so that was pretty cool.
    With Prototype, Ghost was also given the distinction of being listed as “Missing In Action” instead of “KIA” just like a Spartan.
    Can’t remember where I originally heard this, but with The Babysitter, the reason that O’Bryan was so surprised to see Cal’s face wasn’t bc she was a woman, it was bc there was originally going to be a subplot where it was revealed that the two of them had been childhood friends before she was kidnapped by Halsey. This was why she always seemed to be following and keeping a particularly close eye on him throughout the episode even more than the other ODSTs.

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  6 месяцев назад +8

      Whoa. I’ve never heard about the supposed subplot for the babysitter. If that’s true, that would’ve made the story even better! Why would they cut that? Damn. I wonder if that’s still considered canon

    • @CJ-442
      @CJ-442 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@Woodyisasexybeast - Idk. Time constraints maybe? Also, if O’Bryan was constantly flashing back to his childhood friend, Cal, it would’ve taken away the “twist” at the end where her face was revealed. Sort of like “Wait, you mean to say that this silent, masked character in the present day was this mysterious person that our main character was flashing back to this entire time? Shocker!” Still, I get why they’d want to do that, it’d make the entire situation that much more tragic for O’Bryan and Cal, but with the episode’s framing, it’d be kinda cheesy.

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  6 месяцев назад +4

      @CJ-442 I see what you mean. I feel like they could’ve reworked it fairly easily though. Maybe a scene in the beginning that illustrates their relationship but framed in such a way that it appears to only effect O’Brien? Then pay it off later by revealing it. Idk, just spit balling. That would’ve been a better twist than what we ended up with. I’m not sure if a pre conceived notion was even why they were surprised. The sexist comment was mostly just for comedic effect.

    This video is a great way to talk to non-Halo lore people to get them more interested in what the universe has to offer besides just "pew pew as a superman soldier against aliens that want the extinction of human life or against other supermen soldiers in multiplayer".
    The Duel is my favourite as well considering it goes deeper into the Sangheili and Covenant culture as a whole. On top of that, the artstyle the studio went for, really made it seem like it's an episode from a cartoon from 2002 maybe. First time I saw this short story I was like "how old is this? it looks as old as I am" until I researched further about Halo Legends and found out it's in fact younger than I am. I'm not as old as the Halo franchise though, am just slightly younger than it.

    The Duel is a little bit more darker as Hakan not only kill Han (Fal's wife) but also killed Ro. If anything, Hakan was the same as Ripa 'Moramee (Halo Wars Arbiter), thus dishonorable and quiet deserving of the title Arbiter after it's retitling.

    • @jackofalltraits2145
      @jackofalltraits2145 6 месяцев назад

      @@Woodyisasexybeast Two other head canons I have, (which have been proven to false thanks to the H2A terminals) are explanations for how the Covenant discovered the location of the Halo rings and the portal to the Ark.
      1. The Forerunner construct buried in the icy catacombs of Reach contains locations of all the Halo rings. That's why the Covenant invaded Reach specifically.
      2. When Alpha Halo was destroyed, it's sister Gas Mine on Thresh Hold contacts the Ark via the portal network, telling Installation 00 to begin construction on a replacement ring right away. This signal catches the attention of both the Prophets of the Covenant and Virgil: the superintendent of New Mombasa, as they detect geothermic readings beneath New Mombasa. The Prophets put together that the planet where the signal was sent to, is the where the last portal to the Ark is and Regret sets out to uncover it.
      Again, I know both of these aren't canon, but I prefer that explanation over Regret getting a Luminary that tells him only the location of Delta Halo and the Ark portal specifically. Plus, it makes the Fall of Reach more important, and ties in better with Halo 1, having Chief's victory unintentionally benefiting the Covenant.

    I haven't seen Legends in a very long time. Makes me feel old. I would also consider "The Package" to be non-canon because it feels way too different compared to the rest of the movies. It doesn't feel like a Halo story, rather a generic anime setting; especially some of the dialogue. But the best, most realistic and grounded portrayal was probably "The Babysitter." ODSTs are openly shown on why they dislike Spartans as well as the humility of Spartan IIs.

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  6 месяцев назад

      The Package is definitely a little rough around the edges. It has some really good action but rather carelessly wastes two Spartan II’s. There’s so few available in the story so I always feel like they should be used very carefully because they’ll go extinct otherwise. The way they killed black team off in Escalation makes me feel similar, albeit more frustrated because they were actually developed characters that were killed very unceremoniously. It’s funny, as a kid, The Package was my favorite because it was so flashy and action packed. I still really like the first person scenes. As an adult though, it’s fallen to the bottom of my list and much like you, The Babysitter has risen much closer to the top.

    everyone I've talked to has said none of it's cannon.
    the package doesn't fit(that's kinda obvious) tones are off, halsey had never been captured before the events of h4s spartan ops through the beginning of h5.
    the duel is either insanely improbable or portrayed as a story twisted by time.
    odd one out is odd.
    origins: I, we have little info past the forerunner saga books.
    origins: II, is either partially inaccurate or falsely portrayed, cortana has the logic plague.
    the prototype is quite probable as it features upgraded, prototype(get it?) technology using the modified cyclops chassis orions(spartan Is) would have used in combat.
    homecoming has some validation, daisy was a spartan though we don't know what happened to her.
    the babysitter doesn't sit with lore well as the only profits known to die during the human-covenant war were truth, mercy and regret as seen in halos 2 and 3.
    still my favorite collection of shorts though, eternities ahead of the tv show as far as lore and timeline accuracy goes, you can not do worse than paramount had, that isn't true but I doubt they could've done worse without making it starwars: (insert disney made title here).

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  5 месяцев назад

      Everyone you’ve talked to is wrong. Everything except Odd One Out is canon.
      Except Halsey was kidnapped… in The Package. Nothing contradicts this at all.
      The Duel is improbable? One elite being a badass is not a new concept.
      Origins I is based on the information Cortana gathered on the rings and the Ark. Her and Chief found terminals in Halo 3 that helped her paint this picture. It’s an interpretation. It doesn’t have to be accurate because she literally says she’s guessing about a lot of it.
      How is Origins II inaccurate? Humans kill humans. It happens.
      Prototype is probable because it literally happened in canon, just like every other short I’ve mentioned so far.
      Homecoming has validation because it’s canon…
      At no point during any of Halo’s lore is it stated that the only prophets that die are Truth, Mercy and Regret. In fact, there are examples of the contrary. First example that comes to mind: a prophet dies in The Last Voyage of The Infinite Succor.
      I have no idea where you’re getting these ideas. Nothing about these stories is contradictory and despite what people have told you, they’re completely canon. Again, except Odd One Out.

    I remember watching these with one of my cousins. They were entertaining with some weird parts. Too bad we don’t have more animated versions of Halo media.
    I know almost nothing about Anime because it’s completely unwatchable for me. Theres some that are tolerable, but the super majority are complete garbage. The extent of my knowledge on it are different things Chris Chan liked, and how he incorporated it into his delusions.
    Not entirely a fan of how the Elites in one of them have normal mouths because they’re supposed to have mandibles (although, the way their mandibles have looked in most of the games hasn’t made a lot of sense. They wouldn’t be able to effectively chew food, keep it in their mouths, and swallow with that big open part. Clearly one of MANY elects of Halo that Bungie and 343 went with because they’re cool).
    I wish we got more stuff covering the Insurrectionists. That’s one aspect of the lore that’s woefully underdeveloped. I like how it’s not just one group, but many that all fall under the Rebel umbrella term. They have a wide array of different ideologies that would cause conflict, were it not for the fact they have the UNSC more. There’s so much storytelling potential with human vs human conflicts in Halo.

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  6 месяцев назад +1

      More Halo animation would be nice. It’s much easier to produce than a game or a movie so I’m not really sure why that hasn’t happened already.
      Anime is just a style with varying genres and tones. I’m sure there’s something out there for both of us to enjoy. We just haven’t put the time into searching for the right ones. For example, my wife insists that Avatar is incredible and that I need to watch it but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
      They have the correct mandibles it’s just hard to tell in that style. It looks like Han has a regular mouth but she doesn’t. I think it’s just a weird byproduct of how everything looks. I’ve seen people talk about being bothered by that. I think there’s even a mention of it on halopedia. I really think it’s a strange stylistic thing though and not incorrect anatomy. Just my two cents
      Now that you mention it, Halo Legends would’ve been the perfect outlet for an insurrectionist story. There are a few in canon though, in case you’re not aware. Some of The Fall of Reach, Silent Storm, Oblivion, New Blood and Bad Blood all have human on human conflict.

    Aside from the fact that apparently Frank O’Conner doesn’t know how Halo 3 ended or how rampancy works (This is demonstrated in the Origins Two parter. The guy doesn’t understand a lot of things about Bungie’s Halo lore, especially the Forerunners.) these shorts are phenomenal. Makes me wish Microsoft commissioned a Halo Anime series that adapts the entire original trilogy. I would watch the shit out of it.

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  6 месяцев назад +3

      I’m not sure what you mean about Frank’O Conner. He helped write a lot of stuff. He started working at Bungie during the Halo 2 days. I think he strongly believed that forerunners and humans were separate and when he was promoted to a senior role, he made that vision a reality. I’ve always liked his writing, personally. At least for the most part. Midnight in The Heart of Midlothian and Saint’s Testimony are great. I also think Halo 4 has the most well written narrative in the series. Ok, maybe tied with Halo 2.
      More Halo animation would be great. I’d rather some new side stories over a retread of the games but that’s just me.

      @@WoodyisasexybeastI never understood why people continue thinking humans were meant to be forerunners the symbol and name for humans has legit been different than that of the forerunners. • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  6 месяцев назад +4

      @KalicoKal I think the big thing is people get hung up on 343 guilty spark saying “you are forerunner”. To me though, that was always metaphorical. Even when I first heard it many years ago. Mendicant Bias implies humans and forerunners may be one in the same during Contact Harvest as well. Again though, it’s always been super vague.
      I’ve been a fan of the series since day one. Halo 4 establishing that they were two separate species never bothered me. Quite the contrary. I was enthralled. I always envisioned that they were different 🤷‍♂️

      @@Woodyisasexybeast That's ok if you prefer 343's vision. That's completely your opinion. I'm glad you enjoy new content brough to the table. I'm someone who got into Halo only 3 years ago so I can't really judge the impact this series left on people who started playing from day one. (I've only played the Bungie games, a little bit of Halo 4, a little bit of Halo Wars, read The Fall of Reach, read The Flood, and I'm intending to read Contact Harvest and Ghosts of Onyx). Heck most of that time I got a lot of my Halo information from a lot of the recent Halo content such s the books and games (of course abriviated by HiddenXperia and Halo Wiki)
      It was only last year that I learned that the idea of Humans and Forerunners existing together and being two different species was a retcon. A retcon not made by Bungie or 343, but by Frank O'Connor (he wrote the Cradle of Life Comic, the final chapter of the Iris Campaign, and the Didact and Librarian side of the terminals.)
      The Halo 2 storyboards, and a tweet made by Marty O'donnell himself very explicitly state that in Bungies canon, Humans were the children of Forerunners. There's a really great video made by C3 Sabertooth (the same guy who reconstructed the Halo CE and Halo 2 Storyboards) that goes into detail about Bungies vision and how Frank (weather intentional or not) changed it.
      ruclips.net/video/_P-uOCKDTAA/видео.html
      Great video though, would love to see animated Halo spinoffs like ODST's or a Grunt rebellion.

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  6 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t personally consider a change of direction a retcon. It was never directly established in the story. That might have been the intention from some people within bungie but it never definitively made into any of the final products, therefore it’s not a retcon. Just a change of direction. Besides, Frank O’Conner was both Bungie and 343. He worked at both studios. That’s my two cents anyways.
      You mentioned an animated version of the grunt rebellion. While it isn’t much, one of the terminals in Halo 2 delves into this a bit. If you haven’t seen it, check it out. It’s pretty cool. It’s the tenth one and can be found on Gravemind. It’s literally titled “Unggoy Rebellion”. I’m fairly certain it’s the same studio that did The Fall of Reach, Sequence, which I noticed in another comment you’re not a huge fan of but it’s still worth a watch if you haven’t seen it.

      The Duel has the greatest butterfly effect by far and is easily the most impactful. Without the events of The Duel, the rank of Arbiter never would’ve become a mark of shame. Without this role, Thel wouldn’t have ever become one and therefore wouldn’t have started on his path to redemption. One of the primary reasons humanity triumphed was thanks to his aid. So, if he hadn’t become Arbiter, humanity would’ve likely perished, either by the prophets activating the rings or by the floods consumption.

      I feel like the animation in The Fall of Reach is much weirder looking than what we see in the terminals. I’m not sure why. There’s not a distinct difference but there’s something about it that’s somewhat off putting. I can’t quite put my finger on it.
      My biggest gripe with the animated version of that story, assuming I’m even remembering correctly because it’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen it, was how they shoe horned Fred being present during Sam’s death. I understand why they did it but it just didn’t actually happen that way.

      Wait what? They’re all lore accurate except for Odd One Out, which is supposed to be stupid.
      Humanity and the covenant may not have teamed up but I don’t think that’s really what she meant. She’s calling the elites “the covenant”. It’s depicted on screen in a way that implies everyone worked together, which isn’t accurate. However, it’s not entirely inaccurate to say the covenant allied with humanity because in a way, some of them did. Besides, she’s retelling things while suffering from rampancy. It doesn’t have to be 100% accurate because it’s not meant to be a perfect depiction. It’s one characters interpretation. A character who’s not in the best mental state and therefore isn’t the most reliable narrator.
      Homecoming is a great depiction of the Spartan program imo. It’s just a different side of it, a dirty angle we’d never been shown before.
      Just my two cents.
