      Keyes also did a HUNTER X HUNTER and prevented the Flood from reading his mind entirely, simply by flooding the Proto-Gravemind with his name and callsign over and over, and over again. Rendering the entity starved of information.

      @@DR3ADER1 Well, who'll knew the good old fashion interrogation resist technique would work on that situation. It does feel a bit far fetched but i can roll with it.

    I will never stop respecting the hell out of Keyes for being able to rizz up Halsey of all people.

    I’m glad to see a video about Keyes’s life and horrific death at the hands of the Flood. I really liked how in the Cole Protocol we got to see how the UNSC interact with the Insurrectionists. The contrasting ideologies made the story more interesting. Too bad Halo doesn’t delve more into human on human conflicts. I also liked how the Rebel’s various grievances against the UNSC were legitimate and they had NO IDEA just how bad the war with the Covenant was. The ending of that book was really good. Also, the parts with Keyes in Halo The Flood were really interesting. Although, the part where that one girl who sold him and the rest of the command crew contradicts with what Cortana said about how Keyes and most of the surviving command crew were captured with no mention of a mass execution. Plus, when you rescue Keyes he’s accompanied by several marines. A way I thought of to plug the plot hole/contradiction (uses my schitzo idea for a Halo mini series that uses the separate universe to faithfully adapts CE and the surrounding events with some changes to the structure and adding in some stuff to better flesh it out/tie in with later lore) would be for the Covenant to instead capture the crew and gun down anyone who fights back. Then the Elite would kill the female marine because she sold out her own people and such a dishonorable act deserves to be punished. Then after they get saved the crew can meet their fate in a variety of different ways (dying during the escape, getting killed during the battle at Alpha base, or in the explosion that destroyed the captured Truth and Reconciliation). The Flood parts of that book were truly phenomenal. Keyes and Jenkins’s hellish experiences with the infection were the highlights of the book.
    Thanks to the fan group behind Aleph One Bungie’s previous Marathon games (1-3) are coming to Steam. This will be great because ow they’ll be accessible to more people who wouldn’t want to go through the trouble of installing a fan port of the game. Something that’s really interesting about Halo is just how many things are shared between both. Early on in CE’s development Bungie intended for Halo to be Marathon 4, or at least just a spiritual successor set in the same world. They also intended for Chief to be a Mjolnir Cyborg like the ones from Marathon, and were furious when Eric Nylund changed his origins. There’s some holdovers from this like the Grunts referring to Chief as a cyborg, and whenever the marines see you they’ll occasionally say “Hey look, a Mark 5” referring to Chief as a Mark 5 and not his armor. If you just go by the game and ignore Fall of Reach Cortana is portrayed as an ai that is only meant for the ship and after Keyes tells her to leave she looks around as if she’s seeing her home for the last time. After she gets in Chief’s armor she remarks how similar it is to the Autumns and Chief tells her not to get any funny ideas, despite having already worked together in the book. Bungie also indented for her to become Rampant after Chief puts her into Halo’s systems and she then wanted to take over everything (thankfully that didn’t happen. This early story idea would also explain the level name Two Betrayals. Having Cortana be specifically a shipboard ai would’ve been another Marathon holdover). Throughout Bungie’s run Rampancy went by the Marathon definition where instead of ai schizophrenia/dementia the ai would “go crazy” from our perspective and begins to behave erratically in an attempt to break its shackles and grow beyond its limits. The Marathon AIs would do this after accumulating enough knowledge or experiencing some traumatic event (in 3 there was the fear that the Gravemind’s torture could’ve caused Cortana to enter early Rampancy) and Durandal goes through this cycle. The thing where it inevitably happens after 7 years was added in Halo because that’s Bungie’s favorite number. In Contact Harvest it said that Rampancy would cause the ai to enter a state of megalomania and the UNSC would put them down because a rogue super intelligence could cause all kinds of problems (in The Cole Protocol the Rubble’s ai that’s 8 views herself as a goddess and they haven’t gotten rid of her because she’s essential to run the place). The uniforms the crewmen wear are references to the BOBs (Born On Board the generational ship). There’s some other shared concepts like the Covenant and the Phor being colorful coalitions of aliens with several of them being slaves (the cut Drinols were modeled after Marathon’s Hulks. Drones look like these bugs from Marathon. And there’s some other things I can’t remember. There’s also early concept art for Brutes where they have cybernetic implants on their heads). A lot of the weapons/vehicles Digsite uncovered from the Macworld days look, feel, and function like things you’d expect to see in Marathon. The Reclaimer symbol is also the Marathon logo and Bungie plastered it absolutely everywhere. Halo 3’s terminals are a callback to how Marathon’s story was told mostly through scattered terminals because they didn’t have the budget/technology to have more cinematic methods of storytelling. You should really watch MandaloreGaming’s playlist titled Bungie Rabbit Hole that covers the Marathon Trilogy, Pathways into Darkness, and Myth 1/2. They’re really interesting.

    Great content. One of your videos. The one about the grunt who was smarter. Made me think about the idea of a jail for covenant races that humans would keep them in during the war. Would or did they do that?

    • @Woodyisasexybeast
      @Woodyisasexybeast  3 месяца назад

      Very sparingly and not really in one place. They captured covenant forces during CE, Yonhet were occasionally jailed for smuggling and Jul Mdama was held by human forces for quite awhile on Onyx. I can’t think of anything beyond that, at least not off the top of my head.
      I imagine you mean something more akin to the raft from Marvel though. A place where dangerous aliens are stored. I don’t believe there are any stories like that but if anyone had something like that, it probably would’ve been the forerunners.
      And thank you!

      I know. I mentioned that in the video. The info she got was the same info contained within the signal that the Iroquois intercepted over the planet. This is more about Keyes though so I skimmed over it for the sake of brevity.
