    Thanks for the breakdown!!! This is what we’ve been waiting for. The fact that the iPad Pro has a really colour accurate grading display makes this a genuinely worthwhile option as a part of or even all of someone’s workflow. The iPad really is at its best as a complimentary workhorse alongside a Mac, and with Blackmagic’s cloud collaboration this is a fantastic rushes, assembly or remote grading tool. I have no doubt we’ll get the rest of the workspace tabs in the future.

      Nah, regular folks will continue to use Luma and that’s the majority of their users. They don’t tend to have SSDs or want to bother with a bunch of confusing controls, menus everywhere, or color grading to upload a few RUclips videos or those annoying Insta Reels. Luma is ease of use and not a space hog. No need for 1TB 16 gig M2 iPad to use Luma effectively either.
      Professionals have been using FCPX and DR for decades. That’s a niche group in the iPad community.

    OK dude, here is the big question! And this is why so many of us power users try and try again to move our life and workflow to iPad (Pro in my case), and then give up due to the clusternaughtyword that is iPadOS. File management and precision mouse speed drag and drop! What if one has oodles* of clips on a drive or cloud service and want to 'drag' them into the media pool in Resolve or other app like Lumafusion? On a desktop environment, this is easy squeezy nice and easy. On iPadOS, it's a bag of hurt! Where are my files? If editing is non destructive, what happenes to my timeline clips if I eject the external drive? (I keep all my source clips locally on my MacBook Pro to take advantage of Apple's fast SSD.) I so want to go 100% iPad Pro M2 12.9", but need to know it will be smooth as a baby's bottom. *English term for 'lots'.

    This is great news. I have one major caveat: as a LumaFusion user on the iPad Pro, I have read about iOS limiting any app's RAM space to 5GB. This, of course, is incomprehensible and annoying, the more so as from what I know, this limitation is non-existent on the recent Android version of LumaFusion. So this is strictly an Apple issue. Do you have any info regarding this limit continuing to apply to the iPad version of Resolve or having been removed ? I would imagine 5GB of RAM would be ridiculous for an app as demanding as Resolve and limit the length of any edit to 10 or 20 minutes or so before the video starts to stutter. Thanks for any insight into this.

    This makes the iPad closer to a more professional tool, but still enclosed by limited iPadOS. The thing is these M1/M2 iPads are so expensive in India (I assume is most countries except the US), that you can get *sorta slim* 8 core Ryzen laptops with RTX GPUs and OLED displays.
    I have a thumb rule - Don't buy a tablet about 55K INR (650 usd+) because those Ryzen + OLED thin and lights are just round the corner. Many with dGPUs.

Have been following the lead up to DaVinci on iPad and seeing this is giving me pause, maybe a new M2 IPad Pro is the right direction instead. Plan to play with Capture One on iPad this weekend (Fuji Files) and even though I already bought Final Cut this might be the best portable and travel option for me. Any comments on the power of the app for video editing overall, not a high “power user” but want advanced features.. so I’ve gotta choose the 14 MBP or a New IPad.. thx

      @GudieveNing Год назад

      Based on my 7+ years of video editing both on iPad OS, MacOS and Windows, THE best way forward is all your current project clips are stored on the device. After you 100% wrap up a project, archive them to external drive or cloud. This way, you are taking advantage of the rip fast SSD Apple use in their Pro products. Else, what's the point? With non destructive editing, you need your clips accessible 24/7, and relying ONLY on an external drive means you have to have it dangling off your iPad. So, spend silly money for the 1 or 2 TB iPad Pro and be done with it. I have a 1 TB M1 iPad Pro 11". Works lovely with Lumafusion, and cannot wait to try Resolve.
