    Never use duct tape. Long term the duct tape will lose its adhesive and peal off. Use aluminum tape instead. It's used for HVAC duct work precisely for heated vents. Great video!

      Agreed. Foil tape should only be used.

    It’s becoming RARE that dryers have access panels to change the vent ports. This is great GE kept it easy. Otherwise you’ll be taking the whole dryer apart.

      I just bought a Dryer (different brand) but every single dryer, whether GE/LG/Samsung/Whirlpool, that matched with Front Load washer, had side cutouts ready to pop on either side. Not sure about the ones that match conventional washers. I was specifically looking for a dryer that had them, since my vent was to the left. Since they all did, just looked for price :)

    Just finished side venting out the right side. My biggest complaint is the adhesive bracket. The adhesive bracket doesn't stay in place when screwing in. The cheap adhesive just pulls right up. I don't understand why GE couldn't have just put a predrilled hole to screw it into

    I am left side venting GE Dryer Model GFD65. I bought the GE side vent kit WE16X29317. The exhaust duct will sit on the internal wires of power cord connection. My question is, Will the heat running through the exhaust duct melt these wires? There is no way for the exhaust duct to avoid touching these wires.

      I think I will use the tape specifically for vents and wrap the spot of the vent that touches the wires.

      Use a small clamp to hold the wires out of the way

    @0:47 = how, how, HOW for the love of god, do you actually remove the break-out panel?!?!? I've been struggling with this 1/2 hour! I'm convinced my GE dryer doesn't have a functional "knock-out panel" - it's secretly just a circular indentation in the metal, made out to look like a knockout panel. WHY can't they explain HOW to do this exactly! Hammer & chisel? I've tried that, and managed to knock several dents into the outside of the dryer, and the supposed "knock-out panel" doesn't budge :( VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Oh no! We’re sorry you’re having such difficulties getting your knockout cover to fall out. We completely understand how frustrating this is. To remove, use a hammer and a screwdriver to break the points/tabs holding it in place. If this doesn’t work, please send us your model/serial number so we can look further into your situation. -AT

      @@geappliances "To remove, use a hammer and a screwdriver to break the points/tabs holding it in place" = I'm afraid I just need to SEE this with my own eyes, exactly what this looks like because on my dryer there don't appear to be ANY tabs/points! should they be on the outside of the metal? or the inside? my model # is GTD33EASKWW, serial # SR722777C, bought just last week, and I tried calling your phone # 800-432-2737 but have been on hold for the last 1/2 hour at least :( I'm disgusted and frustrated at how hard this is -- very close to just giving up and asking if the store will take this back, or send out a professional installer to side-vent this lousy dryer, cuz I just can't figure it out myself :( :( :(

      @@michellefaber1348 nope! the repairman I hired to vent the dryer actually concluded that GE had LIED about it being able to be side-vent, and he had to drill like 200 holes in a circular patterns and manually "bust out" the side of the metal outside of the dryer! there was a very light indentation where it SHOULD'VE been able to side vent! but the goddamn bozos at the GE manufacturing plant never bothered to actually MAKE it side ventable! I will never EVER buy another GE appliance again because of this bald-faced LIE in their instruction manual! just typeing about it now makes me furious with rage that they committed such negligence & fraud with customers - FUCK THEM ALL

    I can’t left vent without the vent touching the wires. This seems like a fire hazard. And the replacement tab that is supposed to be keeping the whole thing together keeps coming unstuck. Please advise!

    i just bought a new ge electrical dryer GTX33EASKWW Model, 6.2cu ft, after they installed, Is it normal to smell like burning and the top left of the dryer is to hot to touch, in only about 2 minutes of running?

      You need to run it with nothing in it for about 30 minutes to let assembly oil burn off. It will smell but it's ok.

      @@michaeldonohue1653 hi Michael thanks for the advice, now we found the culprit why its smelling like that and the top dryer is like stove hotplate, the connection of my dryer vent going to the crawlspace were blocked, one company went to crawlspace and found out it was down unconnected to the wall and the end was facing down to the ground, but they cant fixed it so for the meantime they gave me free dryer vent cleaning. That is the reason why I haven't seen any steam coming out from the wall vent outside the house. Thanks for their cleaning and but like I said it get worse, and that means my old dryer is doing fine which I stocked it in the garage :( Right now I'm using my new dryer unconnected to the line, with the back of the dryer facing my open door going to garage and its doing good so the heat will come out there. When the new insulation scheduled for next spring in my crawlspace they will get new dryer vent connection too. Yup for the meantime all is fine . sorry for the long reply :) have a great Week :)

    2:13 tab with the double stick tape is seen moving. Is that right? It's supposed to move or hold the rerouted vent pipe in place? Seems that is a cheap way to hold the main trunk in place as the risk of fire is high under a dryer, should it become dislodged after the unit is slid in place and used daily. How can this connection be as permanent as the original?

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  3 года назад

      Hello and thank you for your question. We are happy to help. It is important to securely attach the duct to the elbow so that it does not detach. Duct tape is the most efficient way to do this. These ducts inside the dryer should not be attached to the rest of the duct venting outside until the unit is in its final spot. Thanks! - JB
