    Thanks! When my washer first stopped working I contacted a three appliance repair folks. One never called me back, one said GE washers are hard to repair and I should go directly to GE and one who showed up and charged me $125 and concluded that I needed a new washer. Then I found this video and took the gamble on buying a new inverter board. Couple hours later and the washer is working again.

    You posted this just at the right time. Currently dealing with issues with my GE front-load washer right now and this is saving me a lot of time and money. Already had a handyman come out and replace the drain filter but turns out that wasn’t the issue. With your video I’m troubleshooting the issues and accessing the error codes myself rather than paying someone else to come out just to tell me the inverter motor is fried and I need to replace the entire washer, which unfortunately seems to be the case. Thanks!

    Thankyou so much sir. I had a ge washer with the 5 second spin during testing and after watching your video I ordered an inverter board. Problem fixed. Your video made it super easy to remove the front panel of the washer and swap the board. I ended up using a woodworking trigger clamp with a reversed jaw to stretch the gasket spring enough to re-install (with zip ties like you mentioned). Great video.

    This repair sucked. Not because it was particularly difficult to do, just because I'm really irritated that my washer is BARELY over a year old and I had to drop $~140 on a part to fix it. However, I did get it put back together enough to test, and it fixed my spin problem. The diagnostic went perfectly and I cleared trouble codes and got it all put back together. Not happy with appliances these days, but it is what it is I guess.
    Thank you very much for this video

Did not have to remove the weight or tilt the wash and I did not remove the top either. As the codes pointed directly to this as the problem when the drum spun freely. Thanks!!!!!!

    Awesome. I scheduled a service call because I thought it was beyond my knowledge. After watching your video, I realize, it isn't! I had a small rock in my drain pump causing the main board triac to blow a small hole in it, just as you noted. My pump had the 3 detents, but only showed 1.3ohms resistance. Interestingly, it's 3 years old. And I have 2!
    One more thing. My washer is throwing inverter errors, but I am waiting for the Ctl board and pump to see if the works before I order the inverter as I KNOW the Ctl board and pump are bad. Im thinking that the bad Ctl board is masking the actual errors?
    Additional benefit, your prices are competitive and I ordered my replacement parts through your web site. Well done!.

    • @bensappliancesandjunk
      @bensappliancesandjunk  3 месяца назад

      Hi yes - the main control can mask the inverter error for sure. It did on the one on-screen. I bought it knowing it was bad and assumed it was the inverter, but upon further and deeper diagnosis, it was the main board because it failed to throw 120 VAC to the inverter - it would only go up to 4-5v then the relay would click and the process would start again. Thats a clear case of the board being bad. If it did send 120v THEN clicked, that would likely single the inverter or motor for failure.

  • @joelmaricel5810

    I'm lucky you put out this video before my washer broke. You’d think a $1600 washer would last more than 3-4 years. We replaced the main circuit board for around $250-300 a year ago. And here we are spending another $150 on this inverter board. Still cheaper than having a tech look at it though.
    I tried replacing the hall sensor (accelerometer/speed sensor) first because it waa cheaper. If I had paid closer attention to this video though, I would have noticed that I didn’t have an error code for the accelerometer/hall sensor. The diagnostics in the manual suggest replacing the hall sensor if the drum spins for only 5-7 seconds during the #14 spin test. But a bad inverter board also causes the drum to spin for only 5-7 seconds. I’ll just keep the extra sensor on the shelf till it dies too.

    Ben! I have the wifi capable version of this wacher with the "tide" auto dispenser.
    I've used Tide's washing machine cleaner with oxi a couple times now, but I'm curious if it's overkill. One packet caused the entire machine to fill with suds. After the painfully long (nearly a whole day) self clean cycle, there were still cleaner detergent particles in the drum. The instructions state not to use it with clothes so I ran some empty wash cycles to purge it. I then experimented by using about half of the pack and it only caused 1/3 -1/2 of the drum to fill...but no detergent remained that time.
    Serious question: Is the totally full drum necessary for self clean?

    Hi Ben great video Thanks. I have the similar washer machine GFW550S* with codes 3,9,23,46. Running test 14 spin 3 seconds which thel me it is the hall sensor. Checking voltage in the main board I get 122 vac at the input and 119 vac on the output pins that contact connector J506. This tell me that the main board is sending the right voltage to the inverter. However when I connect J506 plug to the main board output pins and check voltage on white and black wire, the voltage is 0. I check continuity between the wire and the pins on J506 plug and wires are cramped correctly. Question, do you thing is there a short circuit on white and black wire or in the inverter to cause difference of voltage be 0? if this were the case why I don't see a spark when I connect the plug J506?? I hope you can help me 😊

    Hey Ben, I just got the SQ TC5, I heard from someone else who has the same SQ that the computer board failed 2 times in the first 8 months of ownership, and that they wash some loads on hot, and the SQ is kept inside a laundry room. After my 2nd load on just warm with the laundry room fan on, I noticed it was a little humid in my laundry room. I'm thinking the natural humidity that the SQ gives off is destroying the computer boards quickly. Is this a problem, or is there something else I'm not understanding?

    I really do not like GE appliances. I worked at GE Aviation and saw first hand how GE cheap out on producing parts. I also had a old 1993, I seem to recall, GE top loading washing machine which was pretty good which lasted over 20 years & used a cider block for a counter balance. I now have a LG front loader washer & dryer. I am not impressed with these. I have to set the washing machine spin cycle to medium so it does not come up with a uneven load error. When I have to start replacing all of the appliances, I will get a Samsung all in one washer/dryer since I seem to remember you gave the Samsung unit better review then the GE & LG units. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @Ikey04-ge9gy
      @Ikey04-ge9gy 6 месяцев назад +2

      LG is definitely the more reliable and better performing washer dryer set of the three. The uneven load error isn’t due to spin speed, it’s due to what you put inside it. If you put singular or small loads of heavy items it will easily go off balance.

      Check wiring going to door lock from the board. Could be a pinched/damaged wire

    Inverter board? I have to assume because the motor is DC? I wonder if there will come a time that electricity is converted to DC when in comes into the home, or maybe even on the utility pole. All our electronic devices have converters to DC and all major appliances will run more efficientely with DC motors. Look at split system A/C units for an example. And of course if solar is part of the equation staying DC all the way is also more efficient. LED light bulbs run on DC and convert within, no? AC was great for incandescent lights, but who uses them anymore? Giant battery farms are springing up in our neighborhoods and they have to invert/convert coming and going each way significant losses. I may not see it in my lifetime but I think DC is the future. Not of course for transmission, but once at a reasonable proximity. I came here thinking about buying a GE washer but your videos are scaring me away. Thanks.

    turns off after a matter of seconds and you hear a clicking sound. No error codes. just keeps clicking. Sounds like a relay click not the door lock click.

      @@MrImperial67 it sucks - thats why I made the videos and released them as fast as I could, with the one about the main board being first.

    These things are trash! They need to get away from this "make it like an iPhone" where settings are preloaded and I have no control. I should have the option to skip cycles and turn on "spin cycle" at any time. They take away independence with new technology. It's lame

    Morning. My washer just start a program, adds some water, spins a few times, like 5 rotations every time and after a few minutes abrtly ends the cycle. Drain pump works, water supply seem to work, at least on the spin and runse cycle. Today it displayed CANCELED and drained all the water and shut down. Back to the symptoms now. GFW850SSN0WW. What do you want to send me first from your store to replace and eliminate? :)
