Good fun tutorial! I've never thought about using my printer for this, I usually just overlay my drawing and color over with paint pens. A few notes, though.
1) Key. K stands for Key. The Key color in printing is usually black, but Key really means that it can be swapped for any other color. Usually Rich Black which, depending on your printing service, is probably around C20% M20% Y40% K100%. I know it's a trifling thing since 99.9% of the time K=Black anyway. This technique does not require CMYK setting, however, since PS already converts any color format to CMYK for your printer. It's more important to make sure you are using an Inkjet Printer.
2) Shrink Film is just Polystyrene. You can find polystyrene sheets a lot cheaper than you can find shrink film. You can use white or clear. For clear, you still want to use around 50% opacity. Experiment to find what opacity works best for your printer.
3) Don't rely on your timer. The temps and time he suggests are for his oven. He's done a lot of fine-tuning and experimenting. Notice the aluminum sheet breathing the bottom of his oven. That's to disperse the heat more evenly and prevent the flames from his gas oven from blowing his buttons around. Watch your buttons shrink through the window in your oven. If your oven doesn't have a window, use a toaster oven and watch. Take them out as soon as they flatten out and cool them with a weight on top.
4) Never put cardboard in your oven. Use 2 layers of baker's parchment (not wax paper) under your polystyrene prints. It's made for the heat and will not catch fire.
5) Finally, if you plan to sell your pins, never use someone else's art unless you've paid for the rights. That's stealing. There are thousands and thousands of dollars worth of repro art prints, T-shirts, mousepads, and who knows what all else floating around the Indonesian Islands (for some reason, I don't know why there) with my art on them. Just don't do it, even if it's just for a RUclips video. At least recognize the artists you took your art from if you're going to do that.

Did you use ink jet shrinky dink sheets or regular white shrinky dink sheets?
I'm testing it out and placed some mod podge on first before the dimensional podge . Hopefully it works.

Hello! Do you set your printer to high quality? When I bought my printable shrinks, seller suggested to experiment with 50-90% opacity, which I did. I liked the result of 90% vs 50, 60, 75 and 80 percents. But of course, lower opacity would mean lesser ink use right? I wonder my results had anything to do with printer settings?
Also, how do you keep your dimensional magic clear when dry? Mine always dry cloudy and Idk what I did wrong 😭
I really liked this video thank you so much! But I have a question if our art works that we want to turn into pins aren't digital and they're in a paper format how can we use them? Is there a way to turn your art works from a paper format to a digital one? Because I would like to use a drawing that I've done but I don't know how
Hi Doaa. Thank you! You can photograph your painting and then put it into photoshop. Scanning works too! If you google 'pin shape templates', it can give you ideas on what shape to repurpose your painting into. I'd like to see it when your'e done

Is this shrink paper better then the brand shrinky dinks paper for the prints? With my test with the shrinky dink brand the print bleed .

Yes, please share printer model. Is that a laser jet? I saw many sources state to use ink jet but I get really... shoddy work with those on this film.
@@maxjackson7120 both printer and shrink film must be inkjet oriented. You can't substitute one or the other. Both products when purchased must say "inkjet".
What do you do to keep ink from bleeding once you put dimensional mod podge? Am I supposed to let pins cool for 24 hr before adding mod podge?
I haven't experienced that issue. for me, I just let it cool down for a few minutes.

Thanks! You should, I bet your designs would be so adorable haha I think it this paper will print on any inkjet printer. The best way to avoid bubbles is to not let any air build up in the mod podge bottle neck. It's tough when you go back and touch up a part you missed. You have to squeeze out some to the verrrrry tip (to eliminate all the air) - then continue to apply on a touch up.

What brand ink do you use? I have an HP and I can not get the ink to stop bleeding with the dimensional magic.
I use ricoh toner. That's a common problem I've been seeing here. I'll see if I can find out why you are getting the bleed
GQ Design Studio thanks! There’s another RUclipsd who uses an epson printer but she also uses the paper which says it is made for printing. I just wished this cheaper paper would work with my ink and dimensional magic.

Hello! I did printed my images and they print out good but I left them for 14hrs to dry but they didn’t dry, can you please tell me why? What I may missing?

Is your printer an ink printer or laser?
The link is to the wrong type of shrink paper. If you click on the maker you can select the ink jet printer type. Otherwise your prints will come out splotchy and run.

Hi, I have a question. Why does the ink bleeds after I put the ModPodge?
Must be the type of printer you have, i Havent experienced that issue
I had the same problem and never over came it. I just ended up moving over to uv resin. You can use a uv light to dry them. I ended up getting a nail polish drying lamp and it works really well.

This is a great tutorial. Why does the red ink keep bleeding when I use the Modge Podge?
Which edition of Photoshop are you using? Do all the editions have some of the same features?
I use CS6 but they all have that opacity sliders!
I always wondered if these pins scratch?
While they are still wet they scratch easier. Once the mod podge dries they hold up pretty well

Print them on sticker paper instead of shrink film.
Maybe double sided tape? But you'd be better off with sticker paper
Is this the ink jet printer film but you used it with a laser printer? What settings did you set the laser printer to? Did you have to change the paperweight so the film didn't shrink in the printer?
I set the laser printer to print on glossy paper. If you have paper weight options then bump them up to print on a heavier stock
@@gqartstudio thanks printed out well. how do you get the air bubbles out of the mod podge? Have you experienced the pin warping or skewing? For example, a circle turns into an oval?

I learned this the hard way.
You will specifically need to order shrink film labeled "Inkjet" if you plan to use a printer.
