As a general fan of pins that's growing a more substantial collection, +1 ON THE LOGO BACKSTAMPS!!!! I try to keep all my backing cards, but it's at a point where I'll never be able to match them up to the right pins again... The backstamps are a lifesaver for keeping track, giving credit to the artists, and giving recommendations to friends. I hate it when someone asks me where I got a pin, and I have to say "I don't remember" :(
I really want to start an enamel pin and sticker business, but I'm not an artist. Sure, I can doodle and make drawings, but I'm nothing like your level. I love art as an expression, which is what has been drawing me into wanting to start this type of business, but I totally feel like I'm at a standstill in regards to having the art to create my pins and stickers. 😔 This was a wonderful video! 🤗
Thank you for watching! I have a few friends who commission artists so they can sell pins, it's definitely an option if you don't want to draw them yourself
@@Mualcaina I've always wondered how that works 🤔 I sell stickers but they're mostly from designs that the clients send me (usually it's their own business logos and stuff like that) but I've been interested in working with an artist so they can make the drawings but I just don't know how to do it so the pay is also fair for them 🥲
Thank you so much for this mualcaina!! if you decide to make more vids explaining things behind the scenes of a small business like yours I'll die from happiness! I've been toying around with the idea but starting seems so overwhelming! :)
Thanks for sharing. I got a fan-made pin once off of Deviantart, still haven't worn it, and was dying to know how it was made. I probably can't afford to make them myself, but it's nice to see the process because they're very high quality.
Unfortunately a lot of vendors (even friends) gatekeep manufacturers. I don’t like how prevalent that is in the artist community. I would love to exchange information with fellow vendor friends, but not everyone is like that.
I mean it depends on the people. I do understand not spreading your manufacturer to everyone. People go through so many manufacturers, failures and lost money to find a good one to work with. And some just want an easy way out - get all the information without nothing in return and not even trying. Just to keep that in mind, that there is a reason why artists dont share their information to everyone.

Thank you so much for this helpful video! When you recommend trying out multiple manufacturers, how do you recommend testing each one out? Would it be good to test them with the same design to compare or do you suggest trying with similar designs, but not the same one? I would love to test them all with the same design, but I'd imagine that would leave me with lots of multiples.
Awesome video! I’m just getting started with my sister on an enamel pin business. My question was how many different pins do you recommend starting out with ? I know having to order in large quantities for different pins would be very costly. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
I’ve looked into these manufacturers and you can do runs for as few as 50 pins, and it looks like it’s less than a dollar per pin (including shipping). So I think that’s a good way to start.
Hey. A very informative video! How to make sure that they do not copy your designs or reuse them elsewhere? Do you sign any legal documents before starting with them?
I just came across your video. I have been thinking about starting a pin small business, however finding a manufacturer from New Zealand is a little overwhelming. Thank you for all your information.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I cant remember if you answered this question: how many pin designs did you initially order to sell. I want a diverse portfolio to sell but cant shell out thousands of dollars. Thanks for your insight!
Hello Mualcaina, first of all thank you, I watched your videos before kickstarting my enamel pin business and you gave me great tips for a start. Right now I finally moved to a bigger flat and I am trying to solve an issue how to store my huge pin stock. Please, what are the containers in 0:08? I would need something like this but I don't know under what name to search. I already tried many names but haven't found these. Thank you!
Have you run into any issues with copyrighted characters and such? If so what have you done in that type of situation? and have you had any issues selling those type of pins anywhere?
I literally just started my research and thought it would be a long uphill battle, but you were the first video and honestly heavensent 😊 thank you for creating such useful and good content!!
Thank you much for all the great videos! Your designs are beautiful. Subscribed to your RUclips channel. You made a video on GS-JJ pin manufacturer. Due to your positive experience, we’re gonna start using them for our FIRST ever creations. They quoted me $2.25 for a 1 inch x half inch five color soft enamel pin. Does that about sound right? Total newbie here afraid to get taken. The process in working with them, like you said, has been wonderful.
Thank you so much for not gatekeeping what you've learned, the world needs more people like you! 🥹 Would you mind giving some tips on which brushes work best for chibi lineart? I want to make some for my friends but whatever brushes I use just look... Off.
I use Fire Alpaca for alot of my art as Adobe Illustrator is expensive like After Effects. My father and I are trying to do a small business and so learning about how and where to get enamel pins so we have those to sell as well with the rest of the goods we will mostly be making by hand. So would Fire Alpaca also work as well?
Wait, I’m confused. As far as I know, illustrator still has Pantone in the color library. It’s still is on my iPad, and pretty sure it is on my computer as well, as I work with it on a near daily basis. However, it will not give you a clear representation of how the colors will look when they come out, seeing that the screen might not be calibrated properly, so it is wisest to have the booklet.

Hey thank you so much for this video! What are the copyright laws btw? Because I want to make anime pins but I’m not sure if I’m allowed to make profit out of those characters? Would the same thing apply to prints?
No you cant steal other peoples art and intellectual property and profit off it. Its not a matter of IF you get caught its a matter of WHEN. It can be a slap on the wrist or they own all your assets and you go to prison.
It's not illegal to sell art of copyrighted properties. However the owner of the copyright has the right to sue or send a cease and desist letter. If you sell at art markets if a representative of the copyrighted property is there they could come up and ask you not to sell your product. Generally with small artists or artist alleys it's bad pr so they don't sue but it's a possibility. It's a good idea to include your own original works as well.
Title should be "how to get in contact with someone to make your pin designs come to life" as you didn't explain how to make them at all 😂 appreciate the video a lot and definitely might look into this but completely different info/content from the title
You can Google that. It costs over $50 per copyright, so the best way to go is to batch copyright your art to save money but you have to wait until you’re comfortable with the price of the copyright for the number of pieces of art covered. The same copyright will cover each piece of art individually. Good luck!
When I see this type of channel/artists I always ask myself, is it cheating to make a platform and business based on other peoples franchises and characters?
According to another comment(s) from another video: the answer is no, if they're fan made for fans but you can't sell them wholesale. Then you'll run into issues. Because if that was the case, tons of fan made mangas and similar fan made stuff would've been put in hot water.
