At the comparing part, I don't compare, I am just, confused, as my art style is kinda like the others, just no cartoony shading or that much detail but this helped! It doesn't matter.
yes! Sona as a teacher!! But yes, using shapes is pretty important. I’ve recently been learning the anatomy of dragons, and I love to think as their talons (basically their hands) as little rectangles and their fingers as small little sausage-like shapes. Remember to keep practicing your art and continue your art journey!
True! I remember a while back taking time to break down pictures of dogs and cats into shapes. I used difftent breads and all. I would copy the first one from the reference and then draw the second one by remembering the shapes but not looking at the reference. Now I know how to draw cats and dogs so yay!
remember: if you can see the drawing, you can draw it too. one of my most helpful tips are to replicate drawings you see. (just for practice obviously, dont pass it off as your own idea.) its easier to do this on paper if you dont have a drawing tablet or touch screen, but just look at what you wanna draw, and copy it down. it seems so hard at first but if you keep doing it and repeating it you'll find your own strategies on how to draw in these styles. it will never be a quick process.
also another art tip!: don’t use gray for shading. Instead use warm or cold colors, it depends how you want ot to look like! I use IbisPaintX and for shading I always set the layer on multiply, select a pinkish colour and lower the opacity. I would totally recommend that because in my opinion it looks too boring :)
I've tried to use this technique before, but either I'm not doing it right or it just doesn't go well with my color choices or artstyle. Regardless, this is a great tip that can add plenty of character to your art and make it seem more alive!
With the line art tips. I COULD NOT AGREE MORE. Seriously just thickening the areas where the lines connect is like the easiest way to spice up your line art. I like to colour warm saturated colours in areas that're touching the light source and do the opposite with the areas that are shadowed in the line art. Usually it's a really small change and you'll only notice it when you squint your eyes but it's still in my opinion a really good way to add spice into your art without anyone noticing ^^
WOAH! these art tips really stepped up my game in drawing! because of you i was able to find my own art style. i found using shapes and stuff really helpful and i even took inspiration from LOTS of different artists AND YOU!!!! this video helped a lot and its all thanks to you!
i would like to point out the change in your art style. im not saying you changed everything but you main character has changed, OR i might just be going crazy
I spent abt 4 years on my comic series and I’m still working on the lore and the timeline. But I’m super proud of the character designs. I made sure there wasn’t same face syndrome and each character has their own signature fit 💃🔥
I used to watch you a few years back and I must say you’ve improved a lot! You were one of my biggest inspirations in art back when I was starting out. Even now I come back and watch your channel every once in a while! I hope you are doing well now!
Thanks Sona! Lately Ive become a bit hard on myself on my art ever since I published the prologue of my comic, which made me develop a mindset of trying to make my art good enough since I want my comic to be decent and not bad. I am trying to tone down that mindset to where it doesnt affect me as much so this is really helpful!
sona i literally love those little random bits of colour in your lineart for a while i got obsessed with putting it in my lines its on one of my old speedpaints i dont have up on my channel anymore xD but yeah your art inspires me alot to be more colourful and experiment since i feel like recently my art has become way too dull and desaturated and when i see your art it just looks so beautiful qwq
6:44 I do hope this makes sense I can definitely say I've been through this and it's really difficult to not look at other artists work and compare your work and just feeling bad about yourself or being ashamed of your old/current work But you shouldn't give up on your passion, I kept going in mine and while I'm not fully happy with my current art style I can say that I have improved since watching Sonas videos and learning from her and other artist on Twitch and RUclips and grabbing tons and tons of references off of Pinterest & Twitter for inspiration, I definitely do recommend people not to beat themselves up about this because not everyone is going to have a perfect art style. In reality you should only change your style if your doing it for yourself. Don't change your style to please others I'm still changing my art style (mainly because I am learning myself even though I have drawn since 2018 - 2017 (on paper) and once I got my first phone, I was able to do some drawings on there. To this day I still draw with my phone. I used to be a finger artist, The only difference is now is that I have a stylus which makes my work much easier for me to create tiny details, still draw today and always coming up with stuff to draw, and trying new things. Like for a example. Sona did a wonderful drawing of the holographic art and I have been trying to comprehend the idea and incorporated it into my next project. My main reason for creating art in the first place is for that on my platform, I want people to find a way out of reality and into my ocs cartoony world even if it makes someone day and that keeps me going knowing that I'm inspiring people, making them smile. I hope this makes sense and I didn't sound silly, I just love Sonas art so hopefully I can learn more from her! ~ KatieCreative
when i was in middle school i sat next to a girl that could draw in very good realism. I was impressed. but, i only drew cartoony. so, i felt like my art was too easy. but, after like a month i realized that just because some one can "draw better than you", that is not what matters. If you like your art, you like your art. you don't have to change it. gosh I'm good at rambling.
Hello Sona! These tips really help a lot! Thank you for the tips about art! I understand that im not that big of an artist, but thanks a lot! These really help me to get a better understanding on how I can make my art look better! Thanks again Sona!
I haven’t used these yet but I will keep them in mind! Your content is so amazing and wholesome (for the most part 😳), and I can’t wait for more videos in the future! My favorite tip you gave is DRAW WHAT YOU WANT! I have felt discouraged before because of people being rude about my art. I gave my teacher a drawing (I’m not gonna say furry, ima call it an anthropomorphic cat), and she loved it. I felt proud of it and she put it on a board in her closet. Well, fast forward a bit and we had to grab stuff from a closet and I heard people being rude about my art, calling it “a furry” and “gross.” I felt hurt and discouraged and stopped art for a little. One time, I was playing Spray Paint in Roblox and I drew a picture when my brother’s friend scribbled on it because “it’s a furry” and starting insulting me. So, what did I do? I scribbled on his art. I mean, sure, it wasn’t logical, but sometimes anger can do that to me. Anyways, he said “this is for my brother in the hospital” and uh…I guess ruining my art is more important than giving something to your brother? I mean, come on, it’s ridiculous. He did get banned tho, and my brother unfriended him. I’m getting offtrack…what I’m trying to say is that, even though people have gotten me down, I still draw these anthropomorphic cats despite their comments. They can’t stop me! So just keep doing what YOU love, people!! ❤
This is my first video I've watched of yours and wow!!! You are such an inspirational & comforting soul!! You also make it seem so much more rewarding and fun to go through these processes and I always appreciate an artist who shares a tip about learning to love your art journey. Thank you for all the hard work you put into sharing and making these videos!! I cannot wait to keep following you!!
Hello! I just came across your channel and your tips helped so much and my drawings have been getting much better and you are really nice and inspire me so much now, I hope you have the best day ever!
Sona was the first youtuber that I used to watch on the daily while drawing so seeing her make an art tip video is like a dream come true :D and I was actually doing the colorful little lineart colors because of sona for a while now and still do !
Hey, Sona! I saw your post on Twitter about your lack of uploads because of stress. Please be sure to take breaks and don't force yourself to work when you don't feel like you're in a good mindset! (btw the art tips were helpful, too)
2:24 it's usually called line weight. you do thin lines where light hits, thick lines where don't. you can also use thick or thin lines to show something's weight.
1:36 Bona, eu sou do Brasil mas espero que te ajude, o que vc usou nesse momento do vídeo não foi tracing, mas sim desconstrução, quando você pesquisar mais sobre, vai entender que foi desconstrução, espero que te ajude 😊
You nailed to make me feel relatable when you said that "do not compare you art with others" because I do that real often, this really help me to push forward on art and would really like to push harder this is really helpful and I hope I reach my dream on being a good artist, thank you so much Sona!!.

Hey sona! I have been subscribed to you for years now and i LOVE ur art style and these tips are very helpful! Maybe I will use them in my next sketches and digital art!
I remember your color dot lineart. I loved it so much!! I remember you quitting cause people said "it's ugly" but art should make you happy and if it makes you happy to add those then I think you should do it!! Besides I think it's ADORABLE 😍
This video was so useful! I have been improving my art from time to time and I use a laptop's touchpad! yea... Will definitely look through these tips again
Sona has such an amazing artstyle, thx to her I want to explore more artstyles and try to create multiples for my own. Thx for the tips and content you make for us! 💙✨
I am a young artist but very smart and I take inspiration from you I love your art style and watching your videos just makes me happy right now I’m trying to draw fanart for you and your eyes just expired me sometimes I just hate my art just think that everything is wonky I don’t draw hands on my art a lot of my art just seems weird to me

update: i tried this again but gave it better colored lineart and varied line thickness and it looks awesome. i might post the speedpaint soon...
@H0n3yMust4rd.-xn3pt that's a good idea
I select a dark turquoise and use multiply on procreate and erase where theres light

Thanks so much, Sona!!!I'm a beginner artist, so this helped a lot
Same! I'm a 13 year old artist, and these tips are super helpful!
Your new character sprites look so good!!! The improvement in your art is so noticable its hard not to compliment it!
This is great for beginner artists!
And another tip, Watching your favorite artist and trying their way of drawing can REALLY help :)
This is probably great for everyone so we can actually learn some ARRTT!!❤
