There's nothing wild in it: many very old noble families wore their signets on either of the 'ring' fingers. It was the Danish custom of the mud-19th century to wear signets on the left pinkie.

Agate and turquois are the most popularly used, but you'll find other stones as well such as emerald, topaz, amethyst etc. as well as chinese steel. Addendum: the same houston pinky ring was not a Masonic ring... His mother, Elizabeth Paxton Houston, had given her son the ring when he had joined the U.S. Army during the War of 1812. Sam’s father had been an officer during the Revolutionary War, and the prospects of soldiering had also seemed better to Sam than teaching school in Maryville, Tenn. But in March 1813 Houston had been only 20 years old and required his mother’s consent-his father having died in 1806-to enlist. She had granted her permission, slipped the ring onto his finger and, if family lore is true, even gave him a musket. It was fitting Houston wore that ring until his death. It'd be interesting to see a necklace guide on what kinds of necklaces are traditionally used and acceptable for men. I know growing up that the traditional necklace for men to wear was a necklace with a cross or similar symbol that they usually got for their confirmation ritual. Both my grandfather and my father wear one and I do too, but that might just be a local tradition. I'd be interested to hear what you know!
Generally for men they are called chains, for a more gentlemans look a thin one with some sort of small pendant is acceptable worn under the shirt generally. Usually gold. If you dont really care and just like them, just find a few you like. Keep in mind bigger chains are generally associated with criminal types. That being said I'm personally wearing a 20in 4mm silver rope chain atm cause I like it.
