I enjoy watching this channel, and I was the one to recommend it to my son, he's a young boy 23, I always tell him the most important thing in life is to be polite and be a real gentleman, have ethical values, and looking like a gentleman makes it better. Regarding the gold and silver rings of the Northern European late iron age and viking age. These rings had a far greater importance than just being an easily moved source of wealth. These rings were given by kings and other leaders to their followers. This could happen to honour a member of the retinue or as a special reward, but often they were also of a type of binding contract. The follower who received the ring commited to serve his lord by taking it. In anglo-saxon and old norse poetry a classic kenning (i.e. a kind of description or metaphor) for lord or king is "ring-giver". The poet Egil Skallagrimsson was given two golden rings by King Aethelstan for a poem that praised the king (among other things as "breaker of the gold", meaning he Egil called Aethelstan very generous). According to the Egils saga each ring weighed "1 mark", something that would equate to a weight of 196-214 grams (7-7,5 oz) each. Quite a nice pay for a poem (although a bad poem could cost you your life...). :D
There was also a ritualistic part of braceletts in the times before the iron/viking age and that is Bronze Age that served a simillar function to disguinsh a lords sworn men and that is probably the basis for the Icelandic sagas mention of oath rings.
At my university, they were giving away pins in the shape of sunflowers in brass. It is a nice symbol (to represent thanks to the doctors and nurses in the hospitals in these harsh times) but it is also a high quality piece. I have since used them as lapel pin and I have to say, it is Very Nice indeed. The golden hue nicely contrasts the darker blue of my coat.
I had a whole collection of vintage cuff links, tie bars, collar pins, and studs from my grandpa and ended up pawning a bunch of it when I was down on my luck. Such a bummer. I had a very valuable belt buckle as well. It would be cool if employers still bought luxury gifts for their workers like that. Most of the stuff was gifts from jobs he had. The police department my other grandpa worked at commissioned a solid gold revolver with a set of solid gold rounds for an anniversary of his retirement. I never hear of places doing this kind of stuff anymore. They might give you a cheap ballpoint pen from cross or something. Twitch gave a vicuña sweater as a present to a game streamer a while back. That was the first time in a while that I saw a company buy a luxury gift for an employee.
I personally wear 9 rings (one on each finger except the left ring finger as I am not married yet.) I'm a teacher and my kids, colleages and family have come to know me for my rings. I take this style from pirates and those who dress like them (Johnny depp it a good example) I always wait for the bit where TGG says to not wear too much rings😂 I do agree that a discreet minimal amount of rings fits the classic gentleman look. But it all comes down to personal preference and style. Great video as usual.👌🏻
To distinguish themselves from aristocrat, elite gentlemen would chose to avoid wearing flamboyant fabric and jewelry, despite that many of them are even richer than dukes and kings. Although wearing too much jewelry can be "un-gentlemen-like", it can look good.
The I.D. bracelets shown were used in addition to dog tags...Mostly they were in sterling silver, although some men had them made up in gold...the info on them could include name, rank, serial #, blood type & possibly a sentiment engraved on the back from the loved one who gifted it to the service man...the beautiful engraving done at the time itself made it a work of art...😊
I'd never leave you guys🥺the root of my fashion sense🥺❤️keep posting very good videos guys! Your doing great! I remember every single details from the first videos on rings thou, i guess this is like a part two😊
I would be interested in a discussion on the history men's use of earrings. I have worn a pair of black diamond earrings for decades that my youngest gave me after the death of her brother. I also wear a small black hoop style just because. To be blunt, black is my favorite shade.
I would very much enjoy a video on men's earrings, as I am I man with pierced ears. I usually wear small hoops in black, silver, or gold, or square cut cubic zirconia studs for more formal events.
I know you mentioned it as being more of a casual accessory, but I’d be interested to see a video on belt buckles. They’ve become my go to accessory, and I have started a collection of them.
You guys rock. I love a good, solid ring on my right hand, wedding on the left. Sometimes i do an onyx pinky ring. I have several cuff links, but I keep my tie clip behind my tie. I don't like poking holes in the silk, so I keep it in the tag on the backside of the tie. Keep up the great work - you make me feel less nerdy.
‚Das Nibelungenlied’ sehr gut ausgesprochen 😉. Great video again. Greetings from Germany! Ich sehe mir all eure Videos an und freue mich schon auf das Nächste. Thank you!
Very nice video. I work with middle schoolers in Germany and one of my students recommended you guys over the summer. I'm from Minnesota originally so that was an interesting connection too. I really appreciate you all making your videos interesting and approachable.
Men earrings are such an interesting topic for a video! I would also like to suggest another topic, wich would be "fabric accessories" (all types of ties, papillon, ascots, cache-col, scarfs, waist bands etc.) On a side note, loved Preston's mise in this video, very well done! I should look for more pastel shirts 😄 Also Fort Belvedere's Eagle Claw cufflinks are beautiful
Personally, I am pretty consistent when it comes to my accessories. I usually wear a mechanical Cartier Tank Louis in rose gold with a green Cartier alligator strap paired with an ornate rose gold jade ring on my left pinky, my wedding ring is a simple conservative gold band. I also usually wear a 5mm gold bracelet and a gold rope chain necklace holding a gold Spanish coin from the sixteenth century. My belt is most often a gold Cartier Santos belt. If I am wearing a suit I will pair this with two other rings on my right hand. For my pinky I have an antique gold Cartier ring from the 1920s, a strikingly beautiful ring with diamonds and sapphires. On the next finger I wear my family's gold signet ring.
I have some of these items thanks to my late father , which I have the tie retainers ( including an tie tack) , some T-bar cufflinks (one similar in appearance to an green one in this video) and some finger rings , but...were cheap ones...because any ones worth anything of major value were pawned years ago, but also I've got my own ones in my personal collection of gentleman's formal wear that I can wear on special occasions...just saying is all...
I only wear my wedding ring and watch now. I don’t wear my college ring. When I was a teen I had a silver chain, not bulky but stylish, with a soccer ball pendant on it. It was made of Portuguese silver.
Could yall do a video about like "X" amount of outfits for summer/spring, I would like to see what outfits Raphael would wear with his houndstooth suit. More than 10 outfits hopefully :-)
I’m very interested in pocket watches from the mechanism, to the stylish appeal, but how does one wear one, like in the thumbnail, I’ve been searching for a very long time I’ve been unable to find a guide, or what style of chain allows this sort of seamless style
Hi! Could you please make a video in which you present good brands for suits, shoes etc. Best in different price segments. I’m from Germany and I love your videos. However, I don’t know where I can get quality timeless clothes here. In the department stores here I usually don’t find good classic suits and accessories. And on the Internet I don’t know which brands or pages there are. Thank you in advance.
In times of old, the tales tell, that a man who wandered to and fro across the globe would wear a ring in his ear so that he can pay the church to have his body buried 'properly' and/or his worldly belongings or just word of his demise sent home to his family. Or a family would buy the young man one engraved with his family name/crest/ect and the area they lived. So they could receive such notices and that if necessary he could sell the ring for passage home.
A question for The Gentleman's Gazette: What guidelines apply to a black velvet jacket after Christmas/New Year Eve? I have two pricy jackets that don't get enough wear over the short holiday season. OK to wear during winter for dressier affairs?? Thank you.
I think if men are going to wear jewellery, then vintage or antique is the best choice. Can’t stand cheap mass produced jewels..if a nice suit is going to be worn then follow it up with classy jewels. I do like the videos on jewellery ....but then I like watching gentlemen’s gazette..it’s fascinating .
@@Boselaphus well their style of dress is very niche. And for one it is expansive and on a lot of their videos, some of their fits come across looking costume-ish.

I don't think it would be a solid gold revolver. That would be like a years salary in something useless.

Nice Video. How ever very interesting. I have one Question. What stands the „G“ in the lapel pin for? Geometric/ god or Gentlemen’s Gazette?
G (usually accompanied with square and compasses) is a very common symbol of Freemasonry. But it could definitely be related to Gentleman’s Gazette.
I think it's his university: Gustavus Adolphus College.
