    I've been a DIY mechanic on my vehicles since the 60's. This T-5 Rebuild series is one of the best instructional videos that I've ever seen. At 75 years old, I may never have to rebuild the T-5 I installed in a 65 Mustang 1200 miles ago. But if I do, your video will be my go to for assembly for sure. Great work!

    I've seen silicone mess up the threads on aluminum parts plus takes a long time to fully cure. The anaerobic gel you showed is best for sealing any transmission. It's what I use on my t5's and works great. Very good video though. You really hit on alot of good points plus alot of details.👍's dog!

    The tremec service manual states that for end play, you remove the bearing retainer housing, place the bearing retainer on the input shaft and measure the distance to the case. Then measure the depth of the retainer housing. And subtract the first measurement from the second and add + .0003" for your preload shim size. Min thickness for this shim is .012".
    Hope this helps anyone, I couldn't find this anywhere, finally found it in a manual.

  • @pudnocker7
    @pudnocker7 2 года назад

    First of all you are amazing. Thank you for this video series. I have referenced it at least 20 times trying to get my T5 rebuilt for an old mustang. Probably the best repair video on the internet. Boom!!
    Quick question if if I can. Off vehicle, should the output shaft counter-rotate in reverse? Before adding the tail shaft, and buttoning up, I tested reverse, and it seemed to rotate backward. Now that everything is together, all gears still spin the output shaft the same way.
    I have not filled with fluid yet, but I would have expected it to still rotate backward in reverse. I really don't want to take it all back apart. I've now redone 5th and reverse about 15-20 times. Getting pretty good at it now.

    • @pudnocker7
      @pudnocker7 2 года назад

      Nevermind. Was not pushing hard enough. It just never engaged. I was worried that the reverse lever was not in the right place when I put the lid on.
      Again. Cannot say thank you enough.

      Hey there man, thx for watching the show. The Anaheim Gear Kit is more complete in my opinion. Also there isnt a company that I know of that makes an all steel bearing retainer for the 94-95 t5's, but I'll keep my eyes open

    3:30 need to correct you on this, the opposite is true: the later, "reverse brake" 5th gear fork will work on all T5s and is a common upgrade. The main difference between the 2 is the clearance on the back around the shift rod to allow it to move further and engage the rear synchro (or reverse brake). If the earlier fork is used, it will contact the case in the back and not go into reverse.
    The other aspect is the other components: the 011 5th/R lever arm is the reverse brake one. The rest of the components, except the fork, must match: the 5/R shift rod has the hole in a slightly different position and the reverse fork is different with a different position of the roller and the spring is different, requiring the use of a case that has the pin behind the reverse switch. Those were Ford (except in Australia) only after around 92 or so.
    Recap: only the lever arm, shift rod, and reverse fork need to match.

    Yo great videos. Really informative... wonder if you can help me ?
    I had my T5 rebuilt. Got it back and installed it in my 94’ GT.
    Got everything in and tried installing the driveshaft and it would only go in about 2 inches. Like just past the rear seal. And there is a rubber dust seal. So is my tailshaft seal the wrong one or did they knerl it when hammering it in ?

    What are some of the vehicles a T-5 comes in? I been looking for something with a T-5 in it.
