    Hard disagree. While you're completely on point that WWE is desperate for more legit heels (they basically only have Nia, Logan and the specter of Vince returning one day), making a heel connected to a bigotry angle, even if only abstractly, will just cause endless dumb arguing and divisiveness where it doesn't have to exist.
    Also, heels should be able to still be likeable. Like in a Jedi/Sith paradigm, there are things that fans can support about both without being tied to things like, you know... supporting genocide.
    Also also, you talk about Tiffany needing to flesh out her character but coming from that angle would only make her that much more one-dimensional. I'm watching WoW Women of Wrestling and they have a character Jessie Jones, a southern rassler who's there to 'make Wrestling great again' and take out all the luchdoras who don't deserve to be there etc etc. It's EMBARASSING.

    • @ProWrestlingBits
      @ProWrestlingBits  3 месяца назад +1

      Pro wrestling merely existing causes arguments and divisiveness. If you think WWE or AEW could book storylines that eliminate divisiveness, you'e in the wrong business, hoss. Besides, what's wrong with a healthy debate that has depth? That's why you're in this comment section, and I appreciate that.

    • @joshwent
      @joshwent 3 месяца назад +1

      @@ProWrestlingBits I love healthy debate, but considering most trending topics the IWC covers are controversies from Insta and Twitter, the debate that spawns from that is about as healthy as Ric Flair's liver.
      Also whether it's a good idea for Tiffany to go in the direction you suggest it not, I don't think you'd disagree that we're (unfortunately but irreparably) in the age of the ethics of the art being tied to the ethics of the artist.
      For example, GRRM got relentless heat for being a misogynist because of the fictional treatment of fictional women in his fictional Song of Ice and Fire universe.
      So if the made-up character Tiffany Stratton started dog whistling all the way from Stamford to Mar-a-Lago, people wouldn't look at that and think, "Wow, what a dastardly scamp. I do so hope these Melanated heroines can come out victorious in the end!", instead they'd think, "Why does WWE employ a racist? They must support her views! Vince is friends with Trump, you know!" and on and on and on and on...

    @spidey1z 3 месяца назад +23

    You’re missing one key difference between wrestling and other forms of entertainment. No one calls Al Pacino, Michael Corleone. Yet no one calls Tiffany Stratton, Jessica Woynilko. For some reason, people don’t separate wrestlers from their characters. One of the main reasons José Huertas González was found innocent of murdering Bruiser Brody. The jurors couldn’t separate the character of Bruiser Brody from Frank Goodish. They believed Frank was brawling psychopath who attacked everyone. The lack of separation from real life and character was the main reason The Un-Americans failed. None of the wrestlers wanted to deal with the heat in their real life. Basically it’s hard for wrestling to address real life social issues because unfortunately people would think. The “racism” portrayed by the wrestler would be who the person is.

    • @ProWrestlingBits
      @ProWrestlingBits  3 месяца назад +2

      This is a great point, but it would also require me to assume that every wrestling angle is going to result in a court case or a legal controversy, and most don't. Part of being an entertainer, whether it be an actor or a wrestler, is getting people to believe in your character. The most successful characters become real because there are elements of wrestlers' real lives in them. Plus, as I mentioned in the video, every great character has a redemption arc, so if the "Marjorie Tiffany Greene" character rang off the way I know it could, the redemption arc will wash away any ill will people would have for her in real life. The first thing people say about wrestling is the fact that it's fake. I really think they'd give WWE a lot of leeway in booking problematic characters.

    • @spidey1z
      @spidey1z 3 месяца назад +2

      @@ProWrestlingBits I was using the Brody murder as the extreme case. Look at what they did after the murder, they turned Gonzalez as a national hero for defending himself against a foreign menace. My point is that wrestling has a strange place in entertainment. Where some fans can’t distinguish between the character and the person. Some wrestlers don’t care but some do. Dutch Mantell had no problem playing Zeb Colter because he saw the money being made. Then you had the opposite in Lance Storm, Christian and Test in The Un-Americans angle. They didn’t like fans thinking that they hated the US IRL. The problem with playing a racist character for some wrestlers will be like you said. “The best characters are rooted in reality of the wrestler” is what we always hear. So if a wrestler pulls off a racist character. There will be a fair amount saying the wrestler is racist. Then you add your valid criticism of WWE’s handling of the women’s division. You can probably count on one hand the number of characters that don’t flip flop between face and heel. They probably are looking at Tiffany as face in the future

      You did spend the first 5 minutes of the video calling on the media to keep this 'controversy' going, accused the WWE of sweeping it under rug, called on Tiffany to make a statement, and said 'I'm not saying she's a bigot... I'm saying I don't know if she's a bigot"....you can't regularly call out dog whistles and then pretend that those statements aren't subtle cues for folks to harass her about this.
      You also painted anyone who defended her as a bigot 'simp'. I mean I know you're doing a bit and it's all about the clicks, but c'mon, man.
      This isn't Marjorie Taylor Greene or Gina Carano posting racist stuff and saying 'so what, you snowflakes'. She posted it and took it down almost immediately.
      Do you REALLY think a woman who is going to have to be in a ring Naomi, Bianca, and Jade Cargill purposefully posted that? And do think Bianca Belair would have gotten into the ring with her the NEXT DAY if she thought it was purposeful? Jade & Bianca are two of WWE's biggest stars, I don't think they'd be shy if they felt some kind of way about it.

      Of course she is, but what's the fun in that? WWE gets lazy when it comes to booking layered female characters because they've fallen into the habit of marketing their women as sex symbols in addition to characters. That's all well and good, get it how you live, but when given the chance, countless women have been phenomenal with character work. The only place you go wrong in your analysis is your assumption that Republicans and Republican-like characters would naturally be considered as heels.
    Considering the current state of our country, that’s a gimmick that would definitely go over, yes, but as a babyface.

    • @ProWrestlingBits
      @ProWrestlingBits  3 месяца назад

      I'm fully aware that a conservative character would be a babyface in some markets, and that's perfectly fine. If the character was consistent everywhere and just so happened to get a babyface reaction from people who related to them, then it would create very unique heat. Like Bret Hart in 1997 or even Drew McIntyre, who is a great heel but will be the biggest babyface in Scotland.

    Thank you for shedding more light on this topic. I feel it was very interesting how the pro wrestling media seemed to sweep this story under the rug. They have no problem having discussions about anything else but the second race might be involved it gets conveniently ignored. I don't think Tiffany should be canceled or fired however I do feel she made a horrible mistake. It was definitely offensive and she removed the IG story as a result. And no I don't need to hear about the Attitude Era as an excuse for a racist post. If it was said back then it would have been wrong just as its wrong today. I definitely would love to hear from WWE at a press conference concerning this. But I highly doubt anyone will ask about it. Smh.

If they don't see real characters they can relate to, for better or worse, then Stranger Things it is.

  • @SalamenceKidd2000

    If JBL was built as a mega anti-Latino conservative heel who literally WON the rivalry against the most popular Latino wrestler in history in the past, I don’t think it’s impossible for Tiffany to develop into such a character herself early into her stardom.
    If my memory serves right, Jade mentioned in an interview with Mark Henry how she “wouldn’t be in the wrestling business for long” to paraphrase (I’m guessing around 2-4 years). It’s more likely Tiffany is going to be a lifer in wrestling, making it even more appealing (in terms of business & storytelling) to give her character a more conservative touch. If both are to have a bonafide feud in the future (hopefully later than sooner, and for the WWE championship) then it would be pretty hysterical to see Tiffany get the comeuppance on Jade, paralleling the nuclear heat JBL got for the majority of 2004-05.

    Brother Alfred, I agree WWE should lean heavily into the far right politics in some of their characters. Reason being, when forced to see how terrible some of these people truly are, some might wake up and change.
    Only reason why it won't work is because like you said sponsors and some in management hold those beliefs.

    • @ProWrestlingBits
      @ProWrestlingBits  3 месяца назад

      Yeah the sponsors definitely muddy those waters. I get why WWE is so quick to pull politically motivated characters, especially when they inevitable go viral in political circles. But in an alternate universe, WWE taps into a whole new audience by booking these types of angles. Pro wrestling and politics are far more similar than anybody gives them credit for. It's a match made in heaven, and WWE keeping them apart feels like Romeo and Juliet.

    As usual, only the racists don’t see anything wrong with what she posted. Unfortunately for Stratton, her poor decision cost her being in the finals of the queen of the ring tournament, thus derailing the storyline set for her. Ironically, she was eliminated by a black woman. Which now puts her at the back of the line, really they’re gonna minimize any appearance of her to negate the negative impact her actions has caused. Bottom line, she felt more of the spotlight and media appearances, and opportunities belonged to her rather than Jade. Basically hating. WWE has so much invested in Jade that it was enough to take away Stratton’s opportunity. Now she’ll be sitting in catering, while someone else takes her spot in the finals.

      @@lastdayonearthmysteryman4849 Why would I be mad that a racist got her opportunity taken and given to a black woman? It's actually ironic and funny.
