Scott Hall was one of the greatest... Man... that guy was truly something else. Had the look, the ring skills, could be a savage on the mic, and was just phenomenal until his later years. I would even go as far as to say he was my favorite wrestler as a kid, followed by Scott Steiner and Booker T.

Ospreay fucking killed it as well and proved that he is the best wrestler of his age range in the business across all promotions. Ospreay vs Danielson was just a masterpiece and thats all there is to it. I think Christian Cage is a fine opponent for Strickland's first title defense, effective heel and can work a match with him. The fact that it's not in the main event is a load of crap. As for Mox and the IWGP title, it wouldn't make sense unless the AEW title was vacant and even then it's just another strap to placate the WON readers, "Look how involved in Japan we are. Hooray us." The nWo angle is just Tony Khan betraying a core promise he made of not being a TV character and the Bucks trying to stay relevant. Will Osprey on the other hand is just bad luck. You can't make the fans like someone more than another. Osprey and his Scrooge McDuck horde of Meltzer stars was going to outshine just about anyone in the company right now. The best idea to retain Swerve as credible and as champion would be to have him beat Osprey at Wembley and have that be his heel origin story. "A child not embraced by the village..." He will burn down the company with that title as his torch and unleash a Hall of Pain run where he breaks everyone in AEW. But AEW won't do that. So, after Osprey wins the title at Wembley, they should quietly release Strickland.

Man... that Ospreay vs Danielson match though... I'm 45 and was raised on Hogan and Savage and I can honestly say that Ospreay vs Danielson was a 10/10 match and is definitely in my top 5 matches of all time. Ospreay is fucking WILD and a generational talent that I can honestly say is probably the best young wrestler in the world right now. Swerve is a great wrestler, so is Christian but Ospreay is so good it's mindblowing and we all know how awesome Danielson is. I don't look at match ratings or whatever but that Ospreay vs Danielson match should get 5/5 stars because it was honestly the best match I've seen in a decade and is worth the price of the PPV alone. Ospreay is just on a different level and is better than any wrestler from any promotion currently, he is truly in a league of his own.

Strickland was the top heel. That's the problem, Tony wanted him to be his top heel punching bag for his boy Hangman Page. The problem is that Hangman is vanilla as extract and people don't care about him, so Swerve got cheered for on every front. Swerve can bed Page's wife in the middle of the ring while Hangman cries in a corner holding his baby and the fans will cheer for Swerve. AEW fans don't share Tony's interests and it's becoming overly apparent. He doesn't like what his own fans like! So it's impossible for him to book anything right. He has to do the opposite of what his instincts tell him to do and that leaves us with flip flop booking that seems almost random!
It's insane, 2-3 months ago Swerve was hotter than fish grease, but now he feels so unimportant as Champion. Kind of like Rey Mysterio in 2006 or sadly Kofi in 2019.

I tuned into the first Dynamite after Swerve won the title. Swerve opened the show with a no-context match against some rando. I was excited to see World Champion Swerve set the table for his next feud, and instead it was like he was just another guy. I don't get it.
Tony never wanted Swerve as champion. He got over on his own. Tony hates that. He has AEW all planned out in his head, and when people get over on their own, that messes up his plans. It's why Britt Baker vanished off TV when she was so over that Saraya had to turn heel. Lets not forget that Britt Baker was on AEW weekly with a broken leg feuding with Big Swole for months! So even injured there is no reason for her not to be on TV unless she is being punished. Think of every single person who got over on their own and their current position in the company; The Acclaimed, Ricky Starks, FTR, etc. All either ice cold or booked like jobbers, only getting title to transition to people that Tony and the Bucks like. So Swerve go cooled off then won the title to shut the fans up. Now he's being frozen so that when the title change happens nobody will complain cause he will have been a "bad champion" even though that was 100% Tony's doing and had nothing to do with Swerve.

AEW never does a good job of booking their champion. Jericho became a parody of his former self, Omega became a comedy goof despite trying to be compared to vader's title reigns, Page was buried hard and then still given the title, then dug the hole deeper with the punk stuff. Moxley only has gimmick matches with bleeding and roaming the arena, MJF was ruined and had nobody meaningful to fight, Joe was an afterthought and now it seems swerve is too. Tony's tendency to book one off "dream matches" with no story means that there are never long term stories, no challenger is ever built up and the main events of PPVs are cold matches at the end of marathon cards in front of tired fans
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. But one thing I AEW’s defense is that I don’t think they’re booking anything far enough out to actively undercutting him. aew has difficulty with story overall. It's partly due to glut of talent. There is 5-8 people better than Swerve, so it is weird to have him run over them. He's good champ but he would be building others because Ospreay and a few others are exceptionally good.

Tony Khan is like every 7 year-old boy who gets a toy wrestling ring and a few wrestling action figures and then asks his dad to get him dozens of other wrestling action figures so he can have dream matches. I remember being a 7 year-old kid and asking my dad for the WWF playset for Christmas that included a Titantron, stage, ramp, guard rails, and a ring and it was over $50 (a lot of money in the early 90's) and he even got me Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage action figures to play wrestle with. By next Christmas I had well over 40 wrestling action figures and would use them as the audience if I wasn't playing with them at the time. I think that Scott Steiner ended up winning the belt more than most now that I think about it. I was always a huge Scott Steiner fan!

I think Christian Cage is a fine opponent for Strickland's first title defense, effective heel and can work a match with him. The fact that it's not in the main event is a load of crap. As for Mox and the IWGP title, it wouldn't make sense unless the AEW title was vacant and even then it's just another strap to placate the WON readers, "Look how involved in Japan we are. Hooray us." The nWo angle is just Tony Khan betraying a core promise he made of not being a TV character and the Bucks trying to stay relevant. Will Osprey on the other hand is just bad luck. You can't make the fans like someone more than another. Osprey and his Scrooge McDuck horde of Meltzer stars was going to outshine just about anyone in the company right now. The best idea to retain Swerve as credible and as champion would be to have him beat Osprey at Wembley and have that be his heel origin story. "A child not embraced by the village..." He will burn down the company with that title as his torch and unleash a Hall of Pain run where he breaks everyone in AEW. But AEW won't do that. So, after Osprey wins the title at Wembley, they should quietly release Strickland.

Man... that Ospreay vs Danielson match though... I'm 45 and was raised on Hogan and Savage and I can honestly say that Ospreay vs Danielson was a 10/10 match and is definitely in my top 5 matches of all time. Ospreay is fucking WILD and a generational talent that I can honestly say is probably the best young wrestler in the world right now. Swerve is a great wrestler, so is Christian but Ospreay is so good it's mindblowing and we all know how awesome Danielson is.
I don't look at match ratings or whatever but that Ospreay vs Danielson match should get 5/5 stars because it was honestly the best match I've seen in a decade and is worth the price of the PPV alone.

Strickland was the top heel. That's the problem, Tony wanted him to be his top heel punching bag for his boy Hangman Page. The problem is that Hangman is vanilla as extract and people don't care about him, so Swerve got cheered for on every front. Swerve can bed Page's wife in the middle of the ring while Hangman cries in a corner holding his baby and the fans will cheer for Swerve.
AEW fans don't share Tony's interests and it's becoming overly apparent. He doesn't like what his own fans like! So it's impossible for him to book anything right. He has to do the opposite of what his instincts tell him to do and that leaves us with flip flop booking that seems almost random!

Tony never wanted Swerve as champion. He got over on his own. Tony hates that. He has AEW all planned out in his head, and when people get over on their own, that messes up his plans. It's why Britt Baker vanished off TV when she was so over that Saraya had to turn heel. Lets not forget that Britt Baker was on AEW weekly with a broken leg feuding with Big Swole for months! So even injured there is no reason for her not to be on TV unless she is being punished. Think of every single person who got over on their own and their current position in the company; The Acclaimed, Ricky Starks, FTR, etc. All either ice cold or booked like jobbers, only getting title to transition to people that Tony and the Bucks like.
So Swerve go cooled off then won the title to shut the fans up. Now he's being frozen so that when the title change happens nobody will complain cause he will have been a "bad champion" even though that was 100% Tony's doing and had nothing to do with Swerve.
Tony has no idea how to get anyone over or keep someone over. He thinks orange cassidy is a major draw and Riho has great matches and pops ratings. It is very generous of you to suggest Tony has anything resembling long terms plans when every feud is one and done (except jericho's nonsense)

AEW never does a good job of booking their champion. Jericho became a parody of his former self, Omega became a comedy goof despite trying to be compared to vader's title reigns, Page was buried hard and then still given the title, then dug the hole deeper with the punk stuff. Moxley only has gimmick matches with bleeding and roaming the arena, MJF was ruined and had nobody meaningful to fight, Joe was an afterthought and now it seems swerve is too. Tony's tendency to book one off "dream matches" with no story means that there are never long term stories, no challenger is ever built up and the main events of PPVs are cold matches at the end of marathon cards in front of tired fans

At best, Swerve will be a meaningless transitional champ until they do the thing they really want to do. At worst, Meltzer spin will turn Swerve as the champ into the fall guy for all that is wrong with AEW ratings and gates. He is doing better in AEW than he did in WWE. The list of wrestlers WWE have failed is a lot longer than any other company. A lot of top wrestlers that WWE would sign in a heartbeat have done better outside of WWE. Yes AEW has its problems, but so did WWE for years. For a couple of years they were the most boring, most predictable wrestling promotion going. They were so predictable people who had never watched the company before could see what was going to happen
Tony Khan is like every 7 year-old boy who gets a toy wrestling ring and a few wrestling action figures and then asks his dad to get him dozens of other wrestling action figures so he can have dream matches. I remember being a 7 year-old kid and asking my dad for the WWF playset for Christmas that included a Titantron, stage, ramp, guard rails, and a ring and it was over $50 (a lot of money in the early 90's) and he even got me Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage action figures to play wrestle with.
By next Christmas I had well over 40 wrestling action figures and would use them as the audience if I wasn't playing with them at the time. I think that Scott Steiner ended up winning the belt more than most now that I think about it. I was always a huge Scott Steiner fan!
