The big rock was my first truck that was not a Traxxas. it was purchased less than 2 weeks ago has had less than 2 hours of drive time. Came from factory with slipper clutch tightened down way too tight stripped spur gear bent motor housing. Not good. Have had four bearings go bad one locked up and stripped out half shaft connection. As they are not shielded bearings, it appears all bearings must be changed. Maybe mine was just put together on the day of the dragon or something.

So I decided to buy a big rock for when the xmaxx was broken. Haven’t been so happy, got the big rock factory out of the box didn’t touch the slipper clutch and put it through 8 battery packs of hard bashing. Fulled speed jumping, backflips, hard road driving and hydroplaning puddles.... this thing literally drives on water. Only thing that happened to the big rock yet was a bent shock screw on the lower front control arm from a large rock, like in the video my steering locks up constantly from rocks but for me the Arma is showing up his big brother Traxxas.

The big rock can be straight nasty as all get out with minor mods and new tires. Can't speak to the hoss it looks pretty decent though A slipper eliminator would be nice for the big rock if the drive shaft and diffs can handle it that is
@@96d96 larger pinion gear, smaller spur gear and/or slipper clutch eliminator. Aside from that you could upgrade the motor and esc to a hobbywing max 8. And if they make metal drive shafts or heavy duty ones that will help from snapping or twisting them under more torque from the max 8
My Hoss lasted 1.5 weeks under normal use before it’s ESC burned up after running it through some short grass. It’s weird to see all of the videos of other Hoss trucks doing much more than I stressed it and hold up just fine. Of course Traxxas was contacted and a return label was sent to send the truck back for repair. Not sure if they actually repair them or just ship a new one out.
Well that’s amazing! I just did a vid which included a chat about the cost differential in ‘rip off Britain’ - as the Hoss is equiv $650 vs the Arrma 3S range at $430 - done deal given this revelation - thanks 👍👍😊

Awesome video of you and your daughter just having fun and no real pressure. I think you should have her review some more RC vehicles. I like hearing a child’s point of view if I was shopping for some kids (family members) . Don’t get me wrong I still want your expertise because you throughly put all the vehicles to the test.
The big rocks ESC was definitely still set on the Stocks setting of a punch level of 3/5 it needs to be bumped up all the way to 5 in order to pop wheelies anywhere on any terrain!
Awesome showing the strengths and differences of both. My son is 11 and we walk the park with our r/c’s all the time, good times and memories because one day he will be a lot busier with his life. 😊
Check your slipper clutch for proper adjustment but if you want the Big rock to wheelie just increase the punch setting . Looks like it was a super fun day !!

I sure thought she would go Hoss after doing the bunny hops so much. She gets to have fun with both at least. The only real downside to the Hoss is it's price. Yes it needs a fan and the battery strap may need redisigned, but it is a great truck. Yes, I choose BRCC, I love my Granite and that platform! This was a great question! Thanks.

I'm not a huge fan of the big rock tires although I've yet to try mine. I think with some knobbyer tires it will hook up better and wheelie. I also might turn my punch up a little. Great bash Earl. Edit also I put a piece of gorrila tape on that hole and helps alot
The Big Rock is definitely 💯 better then Hoss. I was tossing between the big rock and the new Typhon 3s. My wife went with the Typhon for Xmas. But I now know what my next purchase is. Big Rock for the win.
I'm not a kid but before I bought the Big Rock which I really didn't like the looks of as well as the Traxxas I had heard that the Traxxas was prone to roll overs when making turns and a kid , I don't think really cares ? But I ended up with the Big Rock and it is a surprisingly tough and stable basher ! One exception to the Big Rock and don't really know about the Traxxas is that the steering servo they put on them are very cheaply made and seem to break by just looking at them wrong . But if I were a kid and had my choice it would be the Traxxas Hoss hands down for just how good they look .
I like the big rock. Traxxas is too expensive. And fun to see you do your hobby with your daughter. I always ride with my son. Together is more fun 👍🏻👍🏻

Just had a devorce mom hocked my son's rcs . Nice started him up with the slash happy with it. But need another 3 s tough basher for him don't want a breaking bucket any help welcome. Yes got rid of her kept my son. Dad power. I Don't know what one to get. Wether I should get one with matching parts . Or go all new with different company with new parts and buying all spare parts for it.
Nice video, with the big rock do you have a delay in the throttle response from a dead stop ? I have a delay in response of throttle on mine, kinda like a soft start it like creeps a little then takes off. Wondered if you noticed one. I'm thinking they still haven't fixed there radio issues. I bumped up start mode (punch) to 5 didn't seem change the lag. Nice to see the daughter into it.
Yup that big rock definitely is going 50 and the hoss about 40 . The big rock still flips over occasionally but it’s fast as hell! The tires on the hoss are way way better than the rock and will last months ! I drove my rock the first day I feel the tires will wear out in a couple weeks . I like the hoss better overall but can’t stand the sides of the body always popping out and ya gotta keep putting it back on .
@@27pugsly I think I've beaten my maxx body up so much that it flexed and the body sides just stick out now. It didnt do it after first getting the truck.

After selling my tmaxx nitro 2.5 this 2 are my options and everyone I talk to tell me the only thing better on the traxxas is the parts Have you have any problems finding parts for the big rock?

Looks like the same axle as I showed in the comparison video of both big rocks looks like they pushed the drive axle out more so it looked iffy but seems to hold up well 👍👍🔥🔥💯💯💯💯

I use pins with a 90° bend they are easy to get on. i have only lost one in 6 months and thts because the rubber thing ripped. You can find them on Amazon

Strongly recommend changing bearings. They are unshielded go bad and lock up! This of course breaks other things

If Arrma would put a metal ring and pinion gear for the big rock's diffs it would be near perfect for the price.
It would drive the price up, and it doesn't need metal. Never had a problem with any of my 4 3s arrmas. 4s, on the other hand, I would agree 100%.

2400kv motor in the Hoss but only a 3s esc.. the motor is made to run at 15 volts.

No I don’t have that issue but I did set up my controller ( rebound it and end point ) as I’ve experienced issues before 👍👍🔥🔥💯💯💯

I think Jaytee got 38mph on 3s on the hoss and the big rock hits 50. I was surprised he only got 38 on 3s.

I'm running 3670 2850 KV at 17/54 gearing and I'm having no heat issues on to 2s or 3s
