I think it is always important to mention that the 1060 is the 6GB version. The 3GB version of the 1060 would trade blows with the GTX 970 and both of those cards are now reaching the end of their useful life. The GTX 1060 6GB version though still has life because not only does it have more vRAM but more processing cores than its cut down brother.

I don't know my friend, I have a feeling you haven't gotten a taste of 144hz or 1440p. It's not just better for gaming, you get so much more room on your screen for tasks, the videos and the interface are much smoother and cleaner. I myself was on 1080p with 75hz for many years but after switching to 1440p 144hz you couldn't make me go back even if you paid me.
You're right I haven't experienced it yet 😂 I used to play games on my Xbox which were at 30fps and when I built my first PC which could perform at 60fps I thought that difference was amazing and so much smoother. I definitely want to prioritise upgrading a bit more now. Very good point
Would budget the 1440P monitor and match a 1440P gpu when/if you do it. Going from 1080P60 to 1440P 144-165hz monitor it ruins/spoils you. Very clear image at a price ;) @@EverythingDesktops
i got the 6 GB MSI OC version still in my PC. Its still good however i play on 144hz monitor i need to turn down settings to the lowest in competetive games to get stable 144fps (league, fortnite). It served me well but it slowly comes to its end of life considering wanting to play some newest titles i play to get rx 7600
i would re-evaluate your testing process, for example putting your gpu usage, vram usage and capacity, frame time graph, etc, as well as not using terms like “lagging” when talking about hardware performance. these aspects discredit you as well as saying fps is the same as hz.
I see your point good enough for 1080p@60 but I just looked at prices...wow $150 Canadian for 1080p@144Hz or $200 CAD for 1080p@165Hz. I use an AMD 7800xt with 1440p@165Hz adequate for my needs. The 7600xt is coming out and will be abit cheaper and will be good for 1080p and some 1440p gaming. I used to play Tanki Online MMO with my old lenova i7- 7th Gen with the iGPU and had like 40-60 fps was sort of playable.
Great video. I have an i7 8700k and an ASUS GTX 1060 6GB Turbo that I got when I bought a PC from Facebook Marketplace last year for $300. It was quite the upgrade from the FX-8320 and Radeon HD 7950 3GB that I had as my previous PC. I'm wondering if I should keep the CPU for now and just upgrade the GPU or upgrade the entire platform.
I have the same Asus GTX 1060 6gb. I got it and tested it and the temps were a little high in the 80's so I took it apart cleaned it up and repasted it and it works flawlessly. I want to make a back plate for it and install some RGB.

You play competitive games at ultra settings? Must be pretty bad at them. There’s a reason we play on lower settings, a combination known as competitive settings. You want the visibility and less visual clutter, so the 1060 6gb is perfectly fine for Fortnite
2016 prebuilt I had the 1060 3gb in my rig, still raided on WoW with it (tanked some Nighthold and onwards). Going 1440P high refresh would ruin it for you, the 1060 since you need to get a higher gpu, maybe a cpu upgrade also. Been 1440P since 2019, Have 7900XTX and 7800XT, it's nice but it's overrated having high end stuff. Have a 3060 12gb also. 4080 Super is tempting but I don't need that either. There's a breakeven on all this gear. FSR is also great and DX11 still works wonders in a lot of titles.
with ur specs, u should run fortnite in performance mode. u can change this at the display tab. in some cases, v-sync can cause input delay, thats why i allways disable v-sync.
if you only play fornite, league of legends or apex i can understand, but for more demanding games, or almost all new releases i couldnt stant playing on a 1060.
I had the 1060 6gb bought back in 2019 and then upgraded to the 3060ti. And now have a 7900GRE. Funny seeing how it holds up the good olllll 106000 babeee
The GTX 1060 is a very good budget card to flip with now. Altho it is indeed starting to show its age. I think the cards that can knock the 1060 out rn for price to performance are: 5600 XT, Vega 56/64, A580, 1660 series cards.
I think this may be because my benchmarks were in DX12. I’m guessing you were using DX11 or performance mode. Unless my i7-7700K is just an absolute potato 😂
Thats the same GPU that i'm currently using 6GB version paring with i5-4590, ddr3 8gb ram and playing Spiderman Remaster the performance was so bad. I really need a better processor, ram and motherboard and i'm all out of cash building my current PC 🥲
I still use the 1660ti Its struggling with newer games , especially after I upgraded my monitor from a 1080P@60 to a 1440P@165 But as soon as I try a game from 2019 or earlier, games that dont look much worse compared to newer ones , it performs like a champ Aloso , even if you are not a hardcore gamer , a 1440p high refresh monitor makes a HUGE difference... the problem is that you cant see it until after you buy one , but when you do, the difference really is huge
i swapped out my 1060 for a 4080 9 months ago and that was mainly because i bought a 4k moniter and i planned on playing games like cyberpunk had the 1060 since 2018 and i still have it now in another pc thats just a guest pc.
@@lucid8078 A pretty massive leap especially considering i was struggling to play some games in 1080p, now with the 4080 i can easilly play games at 4k. I'd say on average i would quadruple or even quintuple my fps if i were using my 4080 at 1080p. I'm happy with this massive difference but idk if i can recommend the 4080 maybe 4080 super will be a different story its a little better and 1000 msrp.
Running a 1660ti I bought in 2019 after upgrading from an AMD 7950 3GB from 2012, my next upgrade I am holding my breath for as current gen GPU's are terrible value and performance. I don't want fake frames or blurry looking scaling if the GPU is that slow I will just upgrade at that time. My guess is Nvidia 5000 series which would mean I upgrade every 6 to 7 years. 1080p gaming still is fine. I even play Baldurs Gate 3 no scaling and max settings at 1080p I average 55-70 fps paired with a i5 9400F 6 cores 0 threads
I have 2060 and i think 2060 is also the GOAT gpu because it supports DLSS, it actually increased the longevity. My 2060 is now 5 years old and i can still modern AAA titles with decent fps and DF's optimized settings! It was slower that GTX1080 when it was launched and with driver updates over the years it is equivalent to GTX1080 and with DLSS it is far superior. I will upgrade to 5070/5080 or AMD's next gen GPUs when available!
I had a 1060 for 7 years until it died recently. It played pretty much any game as long you lower some, if not most settings depending of the game you play. Managed to play Cyberpunk with 50+ fps on low + FSR 1080p
Pls, just don't play Cyberpunk on 1060 you have an insane bad experience the game have insane visuals and you are missing it. But you might be poor and prolly don't have reasonable monitor anyway. I just can't understand how people can play on lowest settings possible with every fidelity turned off its like game from 2010 with that settings its so bad. yet i understand the struggle and urge to play new games, how about to try to work and get 250 bucks for RTX 3060 used it's not that hard.
Im using an old gtx 1650 and a ryzen 5 4600 and gets better fps at hugher settings than that💀 Edit: im not pushing him down or talking shit, just daying my graphics card has slightly better performance and i dont like it

GTX 1060 6GB guy here, paired it with a Xeon E3 1220 V3 then upgraded to Ryzen 5 2600. Still a solid card since I don't play the latest AAA titles.

play on low settings. The higher fps may not be visible, but gameplay latency will be much smoother and it makes aiming much easier.

please dont use vsync it just adds input lag for no reason

Watching this video, your cpu and gpu are running pretty hot under load, i hope you adressed the thermal issues effecting performance.

Just picked up one today, building my daughter her first PC and found a used 1060 for $100. Its a pretty decent card.
yes 1060s decent still, like you said for small monitors at 60hz. im surprised it only got 17fps on ultra in fortnite, thought it would fo better.

This is a great point. I've been able to pick up a used GTX 1660 super for $100 and it outperforms the 1060. Those cards are great value
