I was actually planning on getting an Ally X, stripping my PC for the GPU (3070ti) and the power supply and making my own eGPU. That was before I knew this unit existed. That's a way cleaner setup and has swayed me to just take the GPU and run with it. Great video man. ✌
Another great video brother! Came for ROG Ally reviews and stayed for the vibe. You really are hitting a niche with laidback tech videos that no one else does. I’ll keep watching your videos for education and comfort 🙏
This dude has the best laid back vibe who just caters to passionate gamers instead of explaining the technical stuff like 3d marks etc which are dry and boring.
You have your own relaxed, cool and approachable style. You don't need to be ETA Prime or anybody else. Stick to what you do, it's very watchable and it has its own identity. Thanks also for recommending hardware that I actually want to buy.
Dude, I’m SOO glad you mentioned the driver issues with AMD EGPUs. I’ve had so many issues with my Ally X and GPD G1 (rx7600m). It’s a nightmare. Great video man
Pretty smooth. I myself ordered the OnexGPU 2. Dock, M.2, and graphics all in one. I havent seen the driver issues with it from anyone.... yet... Solid video my man.
Looks like a pretty clean setup, great option for a big performance boost for the ally x or legion Go. Having an egpu has been my best add on toy handhelds. Usb 4 should be plug and play after initial setup, oculink is definitely more particular. You have to power everything down, then plug in oculink cords, then power on egpu, then finally power on device. When you shut down the handheld, you have to unplug the egpu once the handheld is off. If you dont the egpu will overheat on its own (its a pain).
Awesome video and the EGPU Dock just looked and it not that much right now 159.95 not a bad deal do you recommend me getting the Z1 extreme or just the Z1 I mean cause any news on a Z2 release date at all
Man the vibe, your like chilling with him as he tell you the best advices in electronics, I even forgot the reason why I came to watch in the first place lol, love your vids so close on buying the rog x, you got a new subscriber from across the world Dubai, take care bro
with the new m4 pro mac mini that just came out with thunderbolt 5 up to 120Gb/s, maybe we'll see an eGPU dock with thunderbolt 5 in the near future along with handhelds that support it too like the Ally 2. plus it'll be nice that it's a universal usb-c connector that should be backwards compatible with thunderbolt 4
I can see the huge amount of work that goes into these videos and love your chilled out narration (I watch a lot of SkillUP for the same reason). Too many channels try to fire information an you as fast as possible to keep your attention and it gets tiring. Keep it up buddy. Look forward to the next one!
All credit to you for doing this video👌🏻🙏🏻 This definitely helped me out to decide what kind of setup to spend my money on. Keep up with the good work 👊🏻 //P
Hey mate just wanted to thank you for recommendation on ROG ALLy X bought it second hand 2 weeks ago and it is amazing how it performs. Maybe one day i will also be able to get this egpu setup ❤
I am all about portability these days . I want everything to fit in a backpack when I go somewhere . I luckily have a Rog Ally X, a Steam Deck OLED, a g14 4070 OLED laptop, quest pro and my mobile phone and thats all I need . Gaming at home and on the go .
For anyone that wants to go this route only get a 0.5m thunderbolt 4 cable anything over will cause stuttering issues especially on the legion (they loose bandwidth the longer the cable so 0.5m or even smaller). Some legions have a defect causing it to bluescreen even just on an external display. Also the legion has less ram so that can cause issues with stuttering and blue screening in certain games like avatar (because its a 50/50 chance it wont un-allocate the ram thats set aside for the igpu - even if you change it in bios) so best to go with the ally x.
Hello there. If the display output isn’t connected directly to the eGPU but instead goes back to the system, the rendered frame must travel back over the same connection (Thunderbolt/PCIe) to the main computer’s video output, which then sends it to the monitor. This back-and-forth creates an extra loop that can increase latency. Running the display directly from the eGPU instead avoids that return trip and usually reduces lag, as the frames can be sent straight to the monitor. So, it’s not exactly processing the data twice, but the additional round-trip increases the time it takes for the frame to reach the screen, which feels like added latency.
I’m thinking whenever I make the switch from my current 3080 to whatever I upgrade my desktop to, I’ll definitely end up buying this dock and using my 3080 on my AllyX. I love this type of versatility and the options it leaves for modifying and improving performance
@9:05 instead of turning off all adrenaline for nvidia to take control. Go to desktop Right click, click display, go to bottom click advanced then youll have a drop down menu to choose what GPU habdles what specific app can leave all settings on fyi
When I look up JSaux Docking stations they all look totally different in shape to yours in the video? Which exact docking station should I be getting to achieve too results like yours? I’m not a tech person but I want to buy the rog ally x and have a super good gaming setup like yours
Giving you a heads up. If you wanna get a slight bump in performance move your display port cable from the dock to the EGPU. Since the GPU has to back feed data into the handheld it looses some of the 40gbs goodness.
Dude, I just bought a LeGo 2 days ago and had no idea how great it would work with Windows and now I see this gpu dock and I think I can get rid of my desktop and just use the LeGo. Too bad my desktop has an AMD card! And Flume.... He's the best.
Have you went into the Legion bios and switch it to give you more ram and less VRam since you're using that egpu setup? Just wanted to know if that could help even more
Hey man, great video. If you connect display port directly from the graphics card to your monitor you should unlock some extra performance! Looks like on your video you rely on the usb hub for the video output so you’re taking up some bandwidth there.😊 Won’t look as clean on your desk though! Keep it up, awesome content!
@ yeah, definitely try it out and see if you get an improvement. Make sure you’re not using the Ally/LeGo screen and just your monitor as well. With your setup you’re sending a huge amount of data through the usb cable over to the graphics card and then having to return data from the card through the usb cable to your device and usb hub which will bottleneck it more.
compared to TB3 eGPU docks, USB4 eGPU docks doesn't support hotplug but you can disable the gpu first in device manager then unplug the usb cable and it will not bsod
Dude I really enjoy your videos , great time watching Also how the heck is a 4070, 500$? Where I live it’s like 750$ , I guess that’s VAT taxes for ya. 😢
Surprised to see you use the display running to a dock( bottom usb) instead of the egpu. I did something similar when testing the onexgpu I got for my legion go. I ran egpu to game on the handheld display and in both scenarios it should cut down on bandwidth cause the signal goes back and forth. In your testing it should have ran with display going to the ports on the graphics card. In my testing onexgpu might give a usb c cable that doesn't handle the signal going back and forth. It got really hot and thermal throttled after a bit of handheld gaming. External monitor gaming from the egpu ports and I had no issues. They also give a stupid heavy power brick that's fixed to the plug off the outlet. During my first use thinking it could share a wall outlet and it fell out on its own. Mid game I didnt blue screen though but game crashed and I restarted the pc to recognize it again.
do you think this setup can lead to avoid buying complete gaming PC ? I have legion go, but some games just run bad on it, do you think doing this or just replace it with gaming PC and I use the legion go just on the go or while travel?
