Today I found out that Grobyc is Cyborg backwards lol.
mind blown lol
Well shit
There’s a quote in the game by Harle which read “Every problem has a solution”. I carried that throughout my life 😂😂😂 I was like 8/9 when I played this game. I’m 29 now 😂
That’s very cool! 👏🏼
That is very cool, I'm 38 and remember that boat side scene and at launch! Good scene lol
Chrono cross.... The golden era where you EARN characters through gameplay.... Instead of from a lootbox.
THIS is so true, what the hell happened.
This is why I hate modern games. Characters used be earned in game for free through fun exploration and side quests… now they’re bought from DLC or gacha scams. Can you imagine if they made a Suikoden game in this day and age (…fuckonami btw) where all 108 characters are in a gacha system? I’m almost glad they aren’t making those games anymore (… not entirely, so still fuckonami)
You played a different genre
Chrono Cross, the trash Era where you couldn't level and train all of said characters, hardly any were plot relevant or had development and where crapping on the prequel was what CC fans wanted from their game..
Have you tried Xenoblade 3?
Fargo is also great because of the Pillage skill, since is the only one that can steal items from bosses when you play as Lynx.
Is not the only one, Kid is another one who can steal.
yep he should b S
Agreed. I'd place Fargo as S simply because of this ability in conjunction to his base power. He's virtually a necessity in the game.
@@tristionedison5485 I am replaying the game after many years and he is my favorite character: thief/healer/attacker/supporter (Vigora).
Even though you have to struggle with Pierre for most of the game, once you have the Hero equipment, he basically doubles in power. It might not be worth the hassle, but it's worth noting.
I agree with almost the whole list except pip. A fully evolved pip can be any innate you want with summons and exclusive spells from another innate. Hell that alone makes him B tier.
Pip is too buggy to take him seriously, sadly:/
@@szczepan4737 meh there is a patch to fix him
S class easy
@@bugmanmatt9492 I also agree S tier. But I was just trying to say for this guy's video that at the very least a B
Pierre is actually really good once he's equipped with the hero equipment. I usually run with serge, glenn, and pierre. pierre's crit rate with the hero equipment is insane, use him as a basic attacker and you can't go wrong. also with the hero equipment, he can utterly destroy and can do 3 - 4k dmg against red enemies/bosses. he's a good candidate for the evasion equipment you pick up during the game making him quite difficult for the enemies to hit. from what I can tell only 3 characters can get "Ultimate" equipment in this game, pierre is one of them and can easily turn him into one of the best characters for damage in the game, just don't use his skills [they suck and you will get more damage from his basic attacks] and it's probably best to outfit him with defensive magic [healing and buff/debuff magic]. However, Pierre is very squishy for a large majority of the game and keeping him alive durring most boss fights is a challenge before you can get good gear for him
I always go Pierre
Eh, I love Pierre and usually use him, but I totally get why others would hate him. Also, the need for specific equipment for a character to be useful always drops that character lower in tier as far as I'm concerned.
Still love him though. _RUNNIN' UP FOR THE ULTIMATE SLAP!_
If you need the best gear for a character to be decent/good then they’re not worth it. I liked using Pierre when I first started but realized how weak he was later on.
When I was a kid I used Pierre all the time and of the 3 he was the one who I considered old reliable.
but that defeats the purpose of the tier list - if his 'being really good' is completely dependant on getting a full set, then he's lower tier
One of my favorite RPGs ever, and I still haven’t fully explored all of the many characters. Your tier list is about how I would make it, though I do have a soft spot for Starky :)
Agreed that Grobyc is a total badass and Steena is hot as a jalepeno.
Great to see my boy Glenn at the top where he belongs. The only thing that ever really bothered me is how you can only get him when you choose not to save Kid, feels like they’re rewarding the player for being a shitty person lol
I feel it is the realist option, considering you don't know that the astral amulet will let you go between realities and given the information available to you, that there are no Hydras in the Archipelago anymore and you don't know how to get back to your world.
I mean, we weren't really being mean, Korsha jumped to conclusion just cause we say we dont know what to do.
Iirc, at least
I now feel bad I got Glenn on the first try
It’s more like they punish you for trying to help her by giving you Korsha on top of no Glenn, though at the least you get the magic equivalent of him in Razzly.
That's exactly what they're doing lol. I'd wager like 90-95% of players chose to save Kid their first time playing without even a second thought. Hell, most people probably assumed it wasn't a real choice since you need to refuse 3 times before it actually sticks. So they reward your persistence of doing the "wrong" thing by giving you the best character that isn't Serge lol.
Pierre, is either amazing or terrible. He requires as much training as pip, but has pretty consistent growth. My most recent playthrough he kept up with dual Einlanzer Glenn. Blue element is top 3, for healing alone. However, I prefer Fargo, Leena, or Nikki for blue elemental. I recruit Starky just so I can get the Plasma gun for Norris, which is between Denodorite and Rainbow in attack bonus, who I do use most of the Lynx period. I generally agree with most picks, except for korcha... he belongs in an F teir, by himself.
Pierre becomes a badass if you put in the effort. You know what's up.
@@tidalwaveknight1897 I'm a swordsman fan so I always hoped he became a good character, regardless how lame he was at the beginning; after collecting the three hero items he becomes slightly better, but I'm not sure if he really becomes worthy of use. Glenn is by far my fav character, specially with both einlanzers
With the remaster just getting announced ... this was timely.
Back then, Orlha and Steena were the two characters I was really hoping to be recruitable. I was not disappointed.
Spriggs transformations can make her completely broken. Also use the forget-me-not pots on whoever is dealing the final blow in most battles to quickly unlock them. It's also tied to the battle on the Zelbess, so mopping that place up is a breeze if Sprigg has her transformations unlocked. Sprigg is S Tier.
She definitely is. Especially when you consider how broken she is when you get her in the story and how she trivialises some of the game's toughest battles on her own.
yup, and it feels like cheating lol
@@sebastienbeaulieu4070 Spamming Just 4 Kicks was a key memory of my childhood
I used to get frustrated over rpgs where there’s a bunch of characters and you can miss out on some. But now it’s I enjoy finding as much as I can and finding out who works best together.
One of the coolest things about Chrono Cross is that, even if some of the characters may only be recruited during different paths, YOU CAN get all of them at once and combine them however you want after some playthroughs.
Games with many characters that don't allow this are a huge letdown for me. Radiata Stories is an example that suffers severely from this problem.
At the time, the fact that eevery player had a different party was one of its selling points. Ie:poocha was the first character you could recruit but only about half the players got her. Made for varied experiences which was a huge feature at the time.
You're not alone.. haha.. plus, this kind of game, like suikoden, i need to have walkthroughs and lots of save files. It's really frustrating to miss a character.
going trought rpg blind first is the best thing to do imo, let yourself forget things or pass by secrets. It just makes it more exciting if you're going to play trought the game again with a walktrough.
Thats only imo, lot of my friends LOVE to do their first playtrough with a walktrough, then going "blind" now they have a good idea of the game.
BEST is Suikoden 1 & 2
Pip is really good, grows into a S-tier character imo. Unfortunately hes glitched in the non-Japanese versions, his transformed stats become corrupted if you turn off the playstation. However, if you know the work-around, patch the game, or play the Japanese version, hes super strong. Can be any color, meaning he can allocate multiple unique color only Elements including vigora, he can be the strongest yellow mage if you make him a yellow archangel
After transforming yes I would say Pip is at least Tier A
But since you can't KEEP the transformations on NG+ runs he totally sucks and is NEVER in my party after I had him join on a 1st run.
He keeps his stats and grid of his previous forms, its only his growth and maximums that are affected.
That's exactly why I never evolved Pip at all.
He's also the only character from the first half of the game who will rejoin the party when you're controlling Lynx.
I really love this game, and it kinda sucks that you cannot recruit everyone in your first playthrough, cause this game is very long. I also would like some more character interactions or closure or even development. For example, I would like to see Glenn finally promoted to become a Dragoon like Karsh and the others, I mean he IS stronger than those 3, especially later in the game. I also would like to see Fargo, Nikki and Marcy have their family reunion, cause SPOILERS Fargo is the father of Nikki and Marcy, and yes, both Nikki and Marcy are siblings.
Perhaps if there is a remake, hopefully there would be some added story content.
Woah how did I miss this? Is it said in the game someplace?
@@earthboundfan5484 Nikki realizes he's Fargo's son when he sees that Fargo's dresser on the Zelbess is the same one he grew up with. I think somewhere around that time, Irenes tells Fargo that Marcy survived and is his daughter.
It always frustrated me that there were so many characters with different innate elements and stats but you can only have 3 in your party. At least in games like Suikoden, you had 6 party members. But its fun to try out so many different party members, even some of the fighters that aren't that good are still kind of fun to mess around with with like wacky attacks and stuff.
That's why you have new game + ^,.,^
Serge, Glenn, Grobyck, that's all you need.
I may have fanboy'd at the mere mention of Suikoden
Still have my suikoden 2 disc. One of my favorite games of all time
@@anthonyg1307 I am very jealous, emulators are how I vicariously live my college days
Here's the twist: Leah is Ayla's mother.
How is that possible? Did she time travel?
@@jalicea1650 She did. The segment where she's from is a time-displaced Prehistoria.
I can see that. Leah has a tail still. Indicating she's in between the primate and modern man stage. Ayla doesn't have a tail, right? I could be wrong. I would totally buy it.
Leena is one of my favs just for the good ending. Also, watching her bonk stuff with a ladle and then nuke enemies with icebergs is entertaining no matter how many times it happens.
Saving this video for when I play this in my backlog. Now I’ll know which characters are worth having and which ones I can forget about. I’ll recruit everyone that is a B or higher. Thanks!!
I agree with the list outside of Pip. Pip is easily a B or even A tier because of his evolutions.
Harle is head and shoulders above everyone else in this game. She has THE best grid bar none, her stats are statistically the best overall in the game, she has above average stamina recovery as well and her abilities are very useful and not just attack 1 enemy like most characters. Janice on the other hand is not A on any list, she has a good grid but with a bad magic stat which negates even having a good grid, so other than that her stats are slightly below average and only has a 10 in stamina recovery. She's the most middle of the road character in the game, right next to Radius.
Harle is one of my favorite characters, but no, she is not head and shoulders above everyone else lol
did you see the last Nintendo direct?
CC is coming to all platforms with the visual novel Radical dreamers in a few months!
The moment they showed the screenshot with the two moons I was throwing money at my screen... when they announced the radical dreamer addition I just threw more :P
Nice. I been waiting for this. I knew you'd do it eventually
I thought Leahs ending alluded to the fact she was Ayla's mother?
Specifically, Sprigg can transform into Lagoonate fairly soon after you get her, which has the very powerful skill Just4Kicks... which it also has a lot of, along with the ability to heal with Cureplus.
I love that you put Karsh at S tier. He kicks tail in battle. I always choose him and not Zoah to take to Viper Manor. And his comments are hilarious at times along with his backstory really making you feel. I was rooting for Riddel to warm up to Karsh and choose him and I'd like to think I can't be the only one!
Holy smokes a fruitcake!!!
Still cracks me up like it did 20+ years ago
E = Excellent.....Funguy is best in the game! 😂This is one hell of a list and puts into perspective how many characters and options you really have. The diversity is cool but really I feel like the roster has so many options that there are just too many characters to flesh out. This remastered battle scene the creator made is beautiful. Fun video!
Loved Karsh to death. He is one of the simplest "S-Tiers" to get (when you HAVE to choose between him and Zoah at a certain point) and a BRUTAL hitter. His strongest attacks animation and sound effect are so satisfying to me even today.
Another one that I certainly brought with me more than once is Norris. A weird one story-wise, since the game doesn't show much of him (aside from being from Porre, one of the links between Cross and Trigger), but he's my favorite gunner. Hits hard and my no 1 yellow innate pick.
Out of curiosity, during the pre-faq era, it took me literally 12 or so playthroughs to finally get freaking Glenn, which I just couldn't discover by myself (spoiler: who the f#ck would know that you can just let Kid get poisoned and not try to help her?). Macha and Doc are characters from the same branch, so I rarely had time to play with them also.
I always liked the axe users, so I don't remember disliking Funguy. A goofy-looking character, but a decent fighter.
Boomerang users were by far the worse in my experience (maybe together with the instrument people - their attacks were not satisfying at all to me). Mel was kinda useful for her tech with Kid, great for people that love messing around with stealing.
After maxing out everything, some of the characters were cool to play as simply for their design. I frequently used Steena and Guile solely for this reason. Of course, two-sworded Glenn was a must considering this criteria too.
Just to correct one point: Leah is Ayla's mother!
One character who really grew on me playing Radical Dreamers Edition was Razzly. Her magic spells put her on par with Glenn. Also, finished off many enemies with Raz Star.
I’m glad to see Grobyc in S tier, he’s my favorite character. Second is Guile, best mage for me, and I think he is a S tier mage. Their damage is absolutely destructive. I beat the game with Serge, Grobyc and Guile. Best trio 👌
In Pierre's defense, he does have really good equipment that makes him the best of the first three later on. And even then, I personally never found it worth the wait, so I never bother with him anyway.
I was like did no one get the hero gear? He is easily a A with his hero gear imo
@@earthboundfan5484 maybe even S tier, one of the the only 3 characters to get ultimate equipment. Serge [mastermune], Glenn [Dual Einlanzer], Pierre [Hero equipment + evasion gear] = Crits Galore
@@zenokblueraven 100% but if I’m remembering right the last piece is super super late game? Been awhile though.
@@earthboundfan5484 you get the prop sword [a key item located on the play/stage area] on your first visit to chronopolis, as lynx I think. it is missable so make sure you grab it while you are there. later after you get serge back you have to have pierre recruited earlier [i believe you can chrono cross him and it will still work] an not have him currently in your party then show him the prop sword [pierre located in guest room of zappa's forge in termina] you also have to have previously obtained the hero's medal and Hero's shield earlier in the game for this to work
@@zenokblueraven ohh nice thanks I will have to keep that in mind for the remaster. I thought the sword was on that weird skull and bones island right at the end of the game.
I love watching these. It's a game where you can literally use who you wish no problem, but I love watching someone rank the characters. I still want an rpg that reminds me of this game, but hey, dare to dream. Good video bud :)
Omg, 20 years of this game and you casually mention that grobyc is cyborg backwards. I'm sitting here at 2:22 am with my mind blown. Lolol. Thank you.
Norris should be a little higher simply due to the combo with Karsh.
Pip should be higher, same w Pierre!
I think Niki and Skelly are too high up
Yeah he completely failed to mention getting the Hero gear for Pierre. While he's still weak in the defense department, his strength sky rockets and he pretty much always crits. Now all of that said...I think most people would prefer to use pretty much anyone else lol.
Leena is definitely s tier
And macha should be higher she’s super well rounded
Leena is one of the only characters you get that can RECHARGE used elements in battle. That, plus being tied with Riddle and Razzly for highest potential MAG stat? She's S tier for sure.
Norris was always my fav ch
So when the remaster comes out he has a guaranteed spot on the team
I haven't played Chrono Cross since probably when it first came out when I was in my late teens, but I do remember enjoying the game as well as liking Serge, Lynx, Harle, Guile, and Glenn as characters. The remastered-looking visuals are quite great and I hope a remastered version of the game ends up looking that nice. Watching this also makes me curious to play the game again to see what my older self thinks of it.
You should do the suikodens next!
Good idea!
I seriously wanted Serge or some character from Chrono Cross to be in Super Smash Bros! Imagine Serge fighting and his ultimate in the game!
Frog and magus from chrono trigger would be amazing too
The only thing I think this misses is each character’s stamina recovery. Mojoy becomes pretty powerful with his average attacks looking a lot more
Impressive when you factor in how quickly he can get into full stamina.
Also, I'd love to see a tier list of the characters according to story/plot relevance instead of just combat stats. Like a tier of which characters are most important to the main plot vs. which characters are just filler/boring/gimmick characters.
It be a short list since a majority of the characters are useless plot wise. Kid, Serge, Harle and Lynx are really the only central components of the entire plot.
@@luvlybaluga Karsh, Fargo, Nikki, radius, Riddle, Glenn, Viper, Norris, Luccia, KorCHA, Starky, Irenes, Leena... There are a few that have varying amounts of plot relevance. I'd totally make my own list, but I'm interested in seeing how other people who know the game really well interpret the plot. I've only ever seen people post battle analysis lists. It would be neat to change up the formula a bit.
- S tier could be the major players in the dimension/fate/Schala line.
-A tier could be the strong players in the dragon/Demi-Human line.
-B could be characters who have interesting or longer subplots, but aren't really related to the two major game plots.
- C could be the shout out tier (CT easter egg characters or just cool/funny circumstantial character stuff.
-D tier could be the "why are they even here?" Useless filler tier.
Thanks for the video! Love seeing CC content!
As a kid, I always liked FunGuy, but no wonder I had such a tough time with him.
But it looks like most of my other instincts were spot on. Glenn OP
Chrono cross is the epitome of playing a rpg for the fun of playing a rpg and experimenting around.
lot of people have something against how weird the story gets at the end, or how it doesnt compare to chrono trigger
but man, rpgwise its a masterpiece, even if the equipment system is obsolete.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was more believed Leah was Ayla's mother.
I swear by Janice.
This is half remembered, but... She comes at a time when your character options are somewhat limited, and at that time, she is more or less your best physical attacker - Her physical attributes are really good, but even better when her competition is so scarce, and her Carrot weapon is actually really strong for when you get it (It does actually have stats, and they are a lot higher than most of the stuff you can get if you recruit her early; this really props her up when you first get her before the Dead Sea)
Tying in to this theme that she is good not just out of her innate stats, but because she can get powerful options a bit early, she can also uniquely get her ultimate skill before any other character.
The carrot is cute and makes her really stand out, as she is less reliant on equipment, though it's efficacy falls off towards the late game until you get the Beta Carotine upgrade. In any case, having her ultimate weapon just given to you is nice.
The result of all this is a character I always recruit right away, and who then ends up among my most powerful physical attackers for the rest of the game because she accumulates stat increases over the time in my party when she shines. She also has a number of properties that are fun and unique in a game packed with kind-of-samey characters.
Edit: Sneff is actually worth recruiting before you go to the dead sea, not because he's good, but because he has a good weapon. The PrivateDeck is in the same 'tier' as Denadorite weapons; ie, just below rainbow, and is available at a really early point for that. This is easily missed because Sneff is terrible can even this crutch does not make him good... But, he happens to share a weapon type with the all-around-awesome Harle, who is in your party at the time and can be absolutely amazing with the weapon.
This looks better than the official remaster. Runs better too
I'm FINALLY playing Chrono Cross!! Played it 20 years ago, was 75% through the game and my PlayStation was stolen. Memory card gone. Always vowed to play it again and never got around to it.
I'm a couple hours in and knew EXACTLY what youtuber to go to. Always a huge fan of this channel and remember how it's your favorite Rpgs.
Excited to finally experience this classic. Long overdue, thank you for the guide!
Loved this list man! It was fun to see your choices and what you said really resonated with me at times. I loved Harle as well (something about her character/charm made me easily prefer her over Kid) and Grobyc is certainly one of the more underrated characters in the game. Serge and Glenn (love the "Frog" reference especially since they can execute the X Dash attack!) are insanely powerful when paired up and you are making me want to focus more on Karsh and Orlha (two characters I liked but didn't use a ton back in the day).
I wish they make the monster arena a permanent part of the game. I replayed the game a few times when I was younger just to unlock all the monsters so I can use them during the arena. You can easily win it with the two monsters from the Earth Dragon Isle (you know the two), the bird from the canyon and the three secret bosses.
Damn, you did Macha dirty. Korcha's mama is actually one of the best characters in the game statistically.
I always did serge, kidd, glenn, and poshul as backup tank.
Razzly and Riddel should be A tier imo, and Pip can be up to A or even S with the evolutions.
Bless you for your love of Harle sir! I'm the same in that she is one of my favourite characters in any video game. Not just CC.
Orlha has the best tush in the game. High booty defense.
Lynx, Harle and Sprigg are my dream team.
I play Chrono Cross at least once a year and I’m super hyped for the remake. I try to change things up but I always default to Kid and Glen.
Or Norris and Fargo, which is pretty close to the same thing.
I'd put Fargo & Kid as S due to Stealing function which is broken in this game due to being able to run from every fight if you fail to steal.
Love seeing this list and kinda funny it came out right before they announced the Remake. That said one point you missed that I think is something big to point out is Fargo and Kid is their thief ability which can be pretty nice to have. Especially in your first play through. Good video!
Youre very generous with some of your rankings. Lol. But that's why I love your content. You find the best out of your playable characters. Great video, man!
Such a nostalgia..i really wish you could do a series about WILD ARMS
You actually got me when you said mojo was one of the best characters in the game. I was ready to hear how on earth you made them useful.
This video will be more popular after 4/8/22 when remastered releases 😏
You may be right. I even found this video through a gaming article. Although to be fair, I did look up a lot Chrono Cross stuff a year ago (when I first beat the game) so I was bound to find this.
I consider the size of the element grid, availability, and relative to other options of the same color:
Doc ~ E-Tier, can't think of a worse white, don't like the "not save Kid" branch
Draggy ~ D-Tier, I remember a smaller grid, later availability, better red options
Fargo ~ S-Tier, best blue, crucial theft tech when facing dragons, great backstory
Funguy ~B-Tier, decent for a yellow, available relatively early
Glenn ~C-Tier, don't like the "not save Kid" branch, Karsh relatively peer, many good green options
Greco ~ E-Tier, worst red due to poor magic, smaller grid if I recall
Grobyc ~ B-Tier, later availability but better than average black
Guile ~ E-Tier, hate the inverted grid making far less useful in a first run, better black options
Harle ~ S-Tier, best black when available, but not available early and late
Irene ~ B-Tier, average blue with lots of good options, decent backstory
Janice ~ C-Tier, decent but average red
Karsh ~ S-Tier, best all-around green, available relatively early, great backstory
Kid ~ S-Tier, best all-around red, theft tech, but not available for half the game, great story
Korcha ~ E-Tier, can't think of a worse blue
Leah ~ - A-Tier, likely the best yellow (none are S-Tier) but later addition
Leena ~ B-Tier, better than average blue, early game option, but other blues surpass later
Luccia ~ C-Tier, bland average black
Lynx/Serge ~ S-Tier
Macha ~ E-Tier, hate "not save Kid" path, better reds
Marcy ~ C-Tier, others love but I never use, always better blues
Mel ~ A-Tier, additional theft tech early, solid for a yellow
Miki ~ B-Tier, great red but late recruit
Mojo ~ B-Tier, early available black
NeoFio ~ C-Tier, worse than Razzly
Niki ~ B-Tier, best early story branch, good backstory, can trap Iceberg early
Norris ~ C-Tier, average among the generally poor yellows
Orhca ~ C-Tier, average among competitive reds, more backstory than most
Orlha ~ C-Tier, great blue but very late addition in a first run, lost of good blue options
Pierre ~ E-Tier, path not preferred, weak stats
Pip ~ E-Tier, special evolution aspect not worth the trouble
Poshul - B-Tier, first available addition, decent yellow
Radius - B-Tier, solid overall green, available relatively early, good backstory
Razzly ~ A-Tier, available early in preferred story branch, one of the better greens among strong options
Riddel ~ A-Tier, good storyline, one of the best whites
Skelly ~ C-Tier, solid overall black
Sneff ~ E-Tier, worst among bad yellows, crappy techs
Sprigg ~ S-Tier, allows for early trapping of high elements
Starkey ~ S-Tier, likely best overall white addition and recruited relatively early, good storyline
Stenna ~ B-Tier, better than average white but later addition
Turnip ~ E-Tier, likely the worst of a strong group of greens
Van ~ C-Tier, generally poor green relative to other options, but good story and WetPaint fun to try and use with summons
Viper ~ C-Tier, average among the poor yellows
Zappa ~ D-Tier, relevant to story and allows crafting on the go, but better red options for battle
Zoha ~ C-Tier, relevant to story but average among poor yellows
Not even mention the steal ability for Kid and Fargo and they're still ranked as A. Feels good
The ranking of pierre is a shame. If you get his hero items he becomes an ultra badass and those moves that miss actually hit and hard. Pierre is a solid A. He would be an S if it didn't take so long to get his last hero item.
Solid list, only a couple things I'd change. I'm probably one of the only people who likes Funguy lol.
I did a Yellow innate only run years ago and he was my mvp by far. He grew into a badass mage and a decent physical attacker. Had to beat Garai with him, Sneff and Norris. My final party was Funguy, Viper and Zoah I believe.
It wasn't new game+ either, I played on an emulator and hacked Serge out so it wouldn't be too easy. You should try it sometime!
Holy crap! It's the guy that fought Kurama in the first round of the Dark Tournament! Lol jokes aside, great video! A lot of these characters don't ever get talked about, so thank you!
I would bump Riddel up to A and Pip has so much potential that it feels like he should be at least a tier o two higher. FAscinating list though. I haven't played CC in twenty year so I had forgotten a lot of these, lol.
Well, along the years with my not so many times I beat CC, Glenn always made part of my two optional characters (with Serge). As Lynx, Nikki always had sure place. For the another one, I used to pick Leah, or Mikki, or Viper, or Draggy
“Do not recruit this guy” had me in tears bro I was laughing so hard haha like this dudes so terrible don’t even bother getting him
Characters that can steal automatically go in the S or A tier for me. They are indispensable; you gotta have one of them in your party at all times (at least on the first playthrough). Razzly... I wonder why she got such a low rank on your list. I would have put Razzly in S tier because she isn't just a good mage, I'd say she is the best glass cannon mage in the game, has an awesome lv3, and a triple tech with Leena and Serge. Also she is the cutest character in the entire game.
I still think Miki and Marcy should be on A tier.
Miki and Nikki double tech is actually quite good.
Both Marcy and Miki has great stats and strong magic power.
My favorite game of all time. Thanks.
Stumbled across this and I absolutely loved it! As a fellow fan of the game, I agreed with a ton of your thoughts, but some of them really threw me for a loop. I might have to give Orlha a try when the remaster releases!
1. Glenn is the best warrior 2. Fargo the rougue is better than Kid 3.Draggy is the best fire mage 4.Doc is the best healer 5. Riddell is the best magician 6. Guile is the best battle mage, but almost not needed in battle 7. Pierre from the weakest becomes strong if you do not score on him. I calmly passed the game Serge-Pierre-Glenn without any problems. For let me remind you that when you defeat the bosses, the characteristics of the characters become much better than just from the "stars". 8. Starky
are the only white element when you play Lynx with good skills. 9. Harle and Kid trash due to the fact that it appears, it disappears completely from the plot. Easily replaced. 10. Karsh is a good replacement in the story until Glenn is gone. The rest of the characters are just "unnecessary"
Steena joins too late when she is no longer needed, but she is good (
Miguel is dead :(
Riddel is definitely S tier character as the strongest mage in the game (60 MAX MAG - the 2nd are Guile and Harle with 58). Using proper equipment, under Genius and Magnify she can destroy some bosses with single UltraNova
The instance you put Funguy as a E, I lol'ed.
Rejoice! We are now having an actual remaster.
I totally appreciate you putting together this tier list, and agree with a lot of your rankings! I do wish you had included/considered some of the more unique aspects of the characters though.
Like Guile's reverse Element grid giving him more early game spell slots than any other character.
Or Kid, Mel, and Fargo being the only characters who can steal items.
Or Leena being the only character that can recharge used elements.
Or Razzly being one of the only characters in the game with a triple tech.
Played this game atleast 3 times and this is the first time i heard some of these characters
“Kid really isn’t that great of a character” *puts her on A tier*
Having played this game like 100 times i can say grobyc is a unit and a half. Hes to good all on his own.
Indeed! 👍
This is a great list. I'd have loved to see a bit more detail on things like stamina regeneration and element grid size (I find that these factors are the biggest deal-breakers for me when I'm choosing my party).
well the remastered came out shortly after that video!
if kid wasn't away for almost half of the game she would be one of the best, because I had her in my party for the most time before fort dragonia, getting all the mini lvl-ups and she had decent str and higher magic than serge. Then I got her back and she's just okay lol.
EDIT: Also,Funguy is not that bad, definitely better than Van and the ones on D lol
Wow, shockingly good timing on this one!
Zappa might deserve a higher grade, not because he is a great character, but because he can forge rainbow equipment. That alone is a huge asset in this game.
The only tier list which matter is the fashion tier, which automatically places half of these characters in the f tier.
I have been wanting to play trigger or cross for the first time, and have been hesitant to start trigger first but since you love cross so much maybe I'll start there. I know I won't appreciate it more but idk maybe trigger second.
If possible, I would recommend playing Chrono Trigger first for a few reasons. There are some reference in Chrono Cross that you won't get or understand unless you play Trigger first and besides, Trigger is only a 30-35 hour game vs. Cross being an 80-100 hour game. Just my thoughts of course! Both games are AMAZING though (Trigger is my #1 favorite game of all-time with Cross being somewhere in my Top 20-25.)
The only S characters in the game are Serge/Lynx and Glenn simply for insane physical damage. Nobody compares to them, Grobyc is veeeery close but not quite. Tier A are all characters with high MAG stat - Leena, Guile, Razzly, Ridell, Harle. Everyone else is below
Van can make basic attack for all enemies. I recommend as a support physical damage for all enemies without running out stamina. But not recommended for boss fight.
Poshul is an incredible heal tank! She can hit pretty good physicals and survive ANYTHING.
"if it ever gets remastered"
Spoke too soon and had too much faith in Square.
My current party is Serge, Glen and Graco. I'll recruit Fargo soon.
I always loved Guile, a shame they don't had the time/cared enough to make him relevant to the plot
DISAGREE! Irene deserves AT LEAST “A” if not a S! She is a GOOD mage, but most important, she is a GREAT HEALER! And plus it is easy to have her joined at fairly early in the game.
bro I didn't even know you made a tier list. Stupid youtube. Well, I'm hype for Chrono Cross.
Not gonna lie, I'm a fan of Pierre. He's very funny and once you get the Hero's Blade, Hero's Medal and Hero's Shield, as well as his lv. 7 tech, he's actually a very good character. Also, seeing him run laps in his room, just like the child on the lawn outside in awesome!
ZOAH IS THE BEST
