The Trails series has been one of my shining lights in gaming the past 5 years. I played Trails in the sky much earlier than that, but i never got in to it properly until after i finished cold steel 1 and 2. And then it was history for me, i fell in love with the world of Zemuria.

The SONY PSP being multi-region was one of the reasons why I loved this handheld.
I could finally import games either from America or Japan and didn't have to worry about it being region locked from me since I was a PAL region gamer.
So many great JRPGs that I imported from America when I realized that if a game came from Atlus or if a game came from XSeed, that was a clear indication for me to just simply import from America, don't wait for a PAL release because it would most likely never come.
NISA at least had some games released into PAL region on the PS3, but on the PSP more often than not I had to import from America unless if it was a popular NISA game like Disgea for example.
Everything else like from Square Enix and even Capcom or Konami, I looked for a PAL release before resorting to importing from America for just a few of those games from those well known Japanese publishers if they were too hard to find in local stores.
When it came to music games and even visual novel games, Japanese Import was the only way for me to get those on the PSP especially for the Hatsune Miku Project Diva games that originally you could only import them from Japan before SEGA finally started to release that series into the west.

Played it few weeks ago and finished it finally (after i started it few years ago and dont finished, so i started a new campagne).
Music, Story, Characters, the three different paths how to play this game, the twists and the awesome destiny of some characters are just beautiful. Even the combat is great. Loved the mechanics and the tactics.
For me: S-Tier
He tried 3 times and doesnt like it at all
Seeing Ys 7 not on S tier really hurt me. It was where the Ys series really pulled me deep in to the series for how great it played, it was what I considered as a "True Action JRPG". It would also be cool if you ranked the games "at the time" cause some of the games will get hit cause of the remakes. for example, God eater Burst

Wow u put trails game in the s tier men. That was awesome. I just finished the sky series (with the 3rd i played on the vita oh men, am i a fan of the trails series now). Even the simple quest is very masterfully done.

Tactis Ogre for PSP is easy an A tier for me...
The One Vision MOD transform the game in a S tier, perfect game.
It's a Shame Erick don't like the series.
And unchain blades is the best Dungeon crawler in PSP... B tier.
I wish I could get into Tactics Ogre, I even have it on my phone by emulating PSP but Idk.. the first few hours are brutal. I don't feel there's enough customization early on (I know it's a very deep game later) for it to get that hard.

True friend, that's exactly what you said. At first it is difficult, but then the game is easy.
That's because he was not well balanced and the experience is frustrating at first and tedious at the end precisely because your character is very strong.
So I recommend the one Vision MOD because the game is PERFECT, the classes are changed with different skills and weapons. The crafting system is simplified and you can use now 😅😅. The status of the equipment is more interesting and the game is much more balanced. (Still difficult, but in a much more strategic and enjoyable way)

@Renan, que bom encontrar um brasileiro por aqui. Joguei muito TO LUCT por emulador, a versão original acumulei 40h ou mais, mas perdi o save. Depois comecei o mod One Vision e jogo realmente ficou mais desafiador, skills que foram removidas deixaram as batalhas mais estratégicas e o jogo mais divertido, na minha opinião. Ainda tô no terceiro capítulo, mas pretendo terminá-lo, um dia (tô sem um celular bom pra emular o psp).

Awesome list! I'm a bit disappointed you excluded the jp only games but it's understandable. I would've been really happy to hear more people talking about 7th Dragon and Valkyria Chronicles 3.
How come you never show the gameplay of the good games and only show the bad ones? The only ones I’m most interested to see are the best ranked ones.
At the start of the video, I could clearly hear the Ys Book 1 and 2 music.
That brings me back so much memories playing that on the PSP as well as on the original Wii's Virtual Console when I downloaded that game from the TurboGraphix16CD library on the Virtual Console.
So I played that game twice from two different versions of that game to remember the Book 1 overworld theme well.
Really hoping to see this format for the Vita!
To me Popolo Crois in PSP is a hidden gem. Yeah it's overlooked I think. The character development is nice. And nicer than what I initially expect.
2023 and this is great information for me, reviving my Ps vita with a Adrenaline to play psp games, thanks for taking the time to make this video for future generations.
Though I respect Erick's opinion on Elminage, if you like the Wizardry games give it a shot. One of the best WizClones ever made.

I have never thought anyone would talk about Warriors of Lost Empire on RUclips. It's been years since I've heard that name. I remember playing it on the PSP for hours. It was a lot of fun. I don't remember the exact details of my experience with it as I played it perhaps 13 or 12 years ago I believe. I do remember I was impressed by the graphics lol. PS2 quality graphics on a handheld is what kept me playing back then from what I recall.
I enjoyed Mimana Iyar Chronicle on the PSP.
Though I do admit that I needed a strategy guide downloaded from GameFAQs just to get past some moments in the game where I got lost and didn't know what I should do or what dungeon I should have been in.
But after the first few dungeons and as soon as you meet a few other girls in the game, it turns out to be a really enjoyable and comedic game as the interactions with each girl is like a dating sim game that is a major plus in my book.

Graphic wise, it's really great! However it gets boring with all those same sidequests and all specials there are "chance".

i know a good game is a good game forever, thats why i love final fantasy tactics and tactics ogre, those are about life back then, i dont think there outdated. Also i was probably the guy that got you into fate/extra if you didnt hear about it yourself before that :) i love your channel dude!

My favorite JRPG on PSP has to be YS oath of felghana. I would have put crisis core, Monster hunter , Mana khemia and kingdom hearts in a higher tier. But that's just my opinion. I respect your opinion

I know I’m late to this list but I have to say THANK YOU! I have never come across anyone else who has played Crimson Gem Saga, yet alone had anything positive to say about it. I loved it. Make sure you do finish it, it has one hell of a twist at the end.

Brandish was one of the PSP games I did import from Japan simply because of the sexy cover art.
And when I saw the Falcom logo on it, I knew what to expect from the game.
A little hard to play due to the language barrier, but it is not too hard and at least you didn't require a translation just to get into the game which is always important to consider before importing a game from Japan.
I actually really enjoyed the mimana chronicles. The story ends in a way that leaves room for a sequel and I really wish one had been made.
I really enjoyed Black Rock Shooter, the timing mechanic reminded me of Panzer Dragoon Saga.
What is the timing mechanic?
@@thecritic3530 actions being based around timing intervals. In Panzer, you had the meters that filled up and this 'felt' that way to me.

Holy cow.. I was waiting for you to say "I haven't played this one much....." and you never did... Dang, that's alot of games.. if you played them an average of 20 hours each it's 1800 hours! and that's just the psp games. Excellent video though.. gives me a rough guide on which games to give the time of day to and which not to. thanks!
In other videos, he says that he played "insert name of the game" for 2/3 hours. He therefore does not go deeply into each game. It's normal as he will not spend 20 hours on games he dislikes or finds average; leading to a possible issue since some games show their full potential after 5/10 hours (a concrete example being Suikoden V). The job remains nonetheless amazing :)
Giving Persona 2 the credit it deserves ❤ I thought Innocent Sin was mad easy, but I'd replayed Eternal Punishment so many times by the time I finally played Innocent Sin that I was used to the combat, I guess

It's awesome to see someone giving the PSP some love. The PSP was one of my favorite handhelds back in the day. Great vid!
Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time is a good game but one that requires you to level grind loads before you face any of the later bosses especially the final boss.
This also has dating sim elements that I love and the Catgirl Alien is the best character in my view especially when she wears like a leopard one-piece swimsuit, if Barbarella was a Catgirl she would look like her.

I know something that you overlooked. In the PSP video game of Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles there is an exclusive version of Castlevania Sympathy of the Night. Compared to the Playstation version there is a different arrangement of the items and two more Familiars and a different voice cast as well. So you missed an Action RPG that was unique to the PSP release.

I can’t recommend “Unchained Blades” enough!!! I know Erick Langdon wasn’t a fan, but if you like dungeon crawlers, is excellent. Some of the best characters and characterizations on the PSP. Maybe of that generation, honestly. It starts out kind of ridiculous with an obnoxious main character, but stick with it. (Also, forget “VC2”, play the fan-translation of “Valkyria Chronicles 3”. One of the best game in the series. Really, really cool story and characters. So good that I’m honestly surprised Sega hasn’t done a remaster or re-release at least.

Zentai Hero Project: Unloosing Ranger Vs Dark Death Evilman.
That is perhaps the funniest JRPG game and knowing it is from Nippon Ichi Software before the American branch went downhill, this should let you know how funny this game is.
This is also a parody of the entire Ultraman/Kamen Rider/Super Sentai/Power Rangers/Tokusatsu genre of Japanese Entertainment and it is a real blast to play just for the story of it.
Though it is a Dungeon Crawler and you will be dying loads of times so you can't be afraid to die and loose your gear a few number of times.
Let me clarify this:
Black Rock Shooter is a song sung by Miku Hatsune (with a PV) that the anime is based on, thus the JRPG is based on.
It saddens me that you didn't know this... (For me as a VOCALOID-fan, this hurts me)
Bruh Tactics Ogre in C seriously its one of the JRPG I keep playing because of how awesome the content

I played a lot at the time, it's Dragon Crystal, a very good Rogue like also who introduced me to the role-playing game.
Im a fan of ur channel and i respect that you were not into monster hunter (they were not really rpg) but if u wanna start monster hunter on psp , i recommend Monster hunter portable 3rd english patched.. either on psp, emulation or ps3

Tactics Ogre: LUCT got C tier? wew... if only you played until the end... That game got SS tier from me... the main story basically just the opening of the game, the endgame content is the real game... the game turned from historical to mystical

I was just thinking about what a nice library the PSP has then came across this video.. I like how the viewpoints here on this channel are different.. I’d have to say Trails in the Sky has to be #1 for me so far followed by Jeanne DArc & Valkyria Chronicles 2 if we’re actually lumping all the RPGs together.. However I feel the SRPG genre is broad enough to stand on its own..
Another thing we agree with is how the heck Valkyria Chronicles III was never available.. Its as crazy as the Boxers Road story which is the only PSP import I currently have.. Then again I’m a huge boxing fan so etc etc

The psp also got lot more RPG u didnt cover here, but yea lot of em are JP only. But some got english patch recently like FF agito, .hack/link, 7th dragons, sol trigger, trails of zero 1&2, last ranker, and yakuza kurohryu or something (idk if yakuza counts as RPG maybe not).
If someoje wamna try em, pls go ahead. They all pretty good games.

I just bought Astonishia Story... I thought the graphics were pretty good and there is funny humor right at the beginning. I'm happy I only got it for 8 dollars and I'm not unhappy with this acquisition. It's very very difficult to get psp rpgs around here where I live. I really think this game was meant for younger children and it tries to be simple and fun. I have to play more to really know if I'm going to like it long term.
Get an emulator if you cant find some games cheap

Crisis Core is top 10 best game on the PSP. I would love to know why it gets a B. Great channel man, keep the videos coming!

Me (a completely mediocre and borderline sucky gamer but managed to complete all missions and side quests): okay maybe He just isnt that much into these types of games. give this one a chance. If you like monster hunter games for psp, its like a faster paced version. Quite enjoyable and makesyoufeel like a badass.
24:50 there it is. He really dont like them LOL. IIRC MOnster hunter has 5 PSP games. Freedom, freedom 2, MH2G, Freedom unite and portable 3rd. AFAIK, Freedom unite is just american version of 2G and portable 3rd is japanese but there are translated ISOs available.
