I knew there was hero here somewhere, thank you 😁
Work Time Fun is one of those games that deserve a multi hour long video essay devoted to it. I spent hours on the pen factory minigame alone, putting caps on pens, listening to the coworkers gossip, the soul crushing atmosphere is something to behold.
This was one of the rare games I’ve come across that made me ask, “WTF am I doing wasting my time playing videogames?” Did not even want it in my apartment! But, different strokes for different folks, as they say. Think I’ll go play some GripShift . . .
it's a WarioWare clone.
Normalize making WarioWare clones, there's never enough tbh.
@@angel_of_rust There was this minigame game called Bishi Bashi for the PS1, which was really big in SEA, I think it predates WarioWare game. I agree that we need more such games.
I picked up 3 of the games you showcased after watching this video!
One game I recently got and played on the PSP is Hammerin' Hero. It's not particularly great or groundbreaking, but it's simple fun and is definitely forgotten haha
Glad you found something new DGR! Oh man, Hammerin Hero is great! Had so much fun playing through it 🙂
Hammerin' Hero is one of my top favorite psp games, together with Gitaroo Man Lives! and original Dariusburst. I would say that Hammerin' Hero is funny and heartwarming at same time. All those "jobs" were ridiculous and fun. Memorable stages, also.
Pon pon Pata pon is all ima say, another simple game.
Sellers on ebay want $300 for a sealed copy of Hammerin Hero. Is everyone losing their minds or something? lol
Great video! Love my first generation PSP.
Thanks Joker! Same here, such a great handheld!
I hate the ghosting on the LCD on that model, despise it. I have a 2000 and 3000 model and unfortunately the 3000 series is currently broken I hate those old screens.
I will never forget the evening I was riding home from vacation, late at night, jamming to tunes on my CD player while knocking out thousands of pens on Pendemonium. Work Time Fun is not what I'd call a game, it's more of an experience.
Honestly my favorite things to play around with were the tools. Bingo and King of the Castle Tool are both awesome.
0:15 - It's been a long time since I last talked about Grand Knights History but I certainly have. I was so hyped for that game that I saved room on PSP's memory stick just for it. I had just played Muramasa and I love turn based combat so I was super anticipating Grand Knights History. The fact that it never came out overseas was a real bummer.
You seemingly had a lot of fun talking about WTF and glad to hear you had a lot of fun with Gunhound. Along with the obvious Grand Knights History, I did see a few other games that looked cool from your video such as Crush, Undead Knights and the Harvest Moon. Spiffing video here!
Thanks Grin! Glad you found the video helpful 🙂
@@warehousedave7937 I'll be honest, I do not know if it has an English option. Never really done importing myself. I do believe there is an English patch circulating online but I'm not very tech-savvy.
I definitely know it never released outside of Japan; not even with a US release. I've heard Grand Kingdom on the PS4/Vita serves as a spiritual successor from the same director and that did get a worldwide release.
@@warehousedave7937 yes have a fanmade patch inglish %100
@@warehousedave7937 never leave japan
@@Blo0dAnhell i played grand knights history a bit on emulator and it was pretty awesome. the annoying part was i got off to a rough start and wanted to start over, but unlike every other psp game, there is seemingly no way to start a new game or delete your save from within the game. i guess you could delete it in your save data folder but they're not labeled by game title, there's just random letters and numbers so i had no way of knowing which file it was.
Ys seven is really a great game! The controls even ⚒ well on mobile devices using the ppsspp emulator
Jeanne D Arc one of the best game ever on the PSP storyline,humour,friend-love relationships also they put effort into it and that’s what storyline is all about !
..i just got back into PSP gaming 😊 most games here i already played, but haven't beaten yet..awesome list James 👍
Thanks mate!
One game I can add is street supremacy. It's one of the best racing games I've played on the psp alongside gran turismo, wipeout pulse, and motorstorm.
I’ll have to add this for part 2!
that game sucks
Ys and Harvest Moon? Do they really belong on the list? They're a wee bit popular. How about Black Rock Shooter or Skate Park City? It's a good list, but I usually find hidden gems to play on my Vita by watching your videos (and on that note, thanks for enriching my gaming life!)
Pretty sure he's talked about those already in other videos.
im starting to lose faith on this dude's credibility..
the title of his video is psp games nobody talks about and not unpopular psp games. when people are asked about psp games the ones on the list are (in fairness) not the titles anyone will mention right away.
@@martinde-serres8724 i am guessing why he is including those titles as nobody talks about or criminally underrated because most people will talk about games that are well know like the final fantasy series. ys is known but not as well known as final fantasy. half minute hero is also talked about but only by a niche audience. for sure some games on his list are not hidden gems but people rarely talk about them unless the people talking are into games that are less talked about.
Well in all fairness, the PSP wasn't exactly a popular console, so most of the library is obscure.
How many people know that it has a remake of the first Mega Man game?
In fact, Hero of Leaf Valley is a lesser known Harvest Moon title because it was a PSP exclusive.
Half minute hero is such an awesome game, like how 3d dot heroes was a love letter to zelda, HMH was like a FF or any pixel jrpg homage, but w a unique and fun gameplay mechanics. So love that game.
Metal Gear Acid 2 was a very good game. I spent Hours on that game. It had great boss battles, decent card system and it was very challenging. Sadly didn’t get the attention it deserves.
Hear, hear. The stories were definitely the weak points, but both the Ac!d games were phenomenal. I'd love to see a new entry in the series or another property tackle this type of game. The closest thing I've seen to it looks like the upcoming Marvel Midnight Suns game.
@@christopherspellman9163 damn your right bro. It’s not everyday we get that type of gameplay and style like the acid games
@@christopherspellman9163 No idea why you'd cal the story weak.
@@DarkOrderSolDjango that was a relative statement. I was saying compared to the other elements, the story was the worst part for me. Plus it was hard to get invested since both games' stories are considered non-canon. They're both still some of my favorite games on the PSP though.
YS 7 is awesome! It may not have been a huge success but it did change YS games for a while going forward like YS Memories of Celceta where you don't play just as Adol but switch between characters depending on the enemy or environment. So it was influential in changing the direction of the series to experiment more. Without that change we'd never have gotten to play as Dana in Lacromosa of Dana. So no YS 7, no Dana which is most people's favorite in the series.
The Metal Gear Acid games are two of my favorite games for the system.
Both well worth playing through. Especially for fans of the series!
@@thatvideogamesshow I couldn't agree more.
Nice selection of PSP games! It's good to know what to look for when searching PSP games!
Glad you found the video helpful!
An odd game I played for hours and hours was Dungeon Explorer Warriors of Ancient Arts. Just a strange game that seemed endless, I was never able to finish the Moon or Saturn dungeon whatever it was. The game got insanely long at that point with each dungeon taking sometimes an hour to complete and the enemies becoming massive HP sponges.
The Tokyo Xanadu bgms are so fun to listen to! Nice list, sir! Although I'm already done with the psp, it really was a great handheld. If I miss playing it, I have two Vitas to compensate with Adrenaline.
Wow, another great video. I did not know about Armored Hunter Gunhound Ex, it looks like an evolution of Metal Warriors of Snes and I love that game.
Thanks Miguel!
I think "blank- games nobody talks about" is my favorite style of list because i learn of so many hidden gems"
Plenty more on the way 🙂
Armored Hunter made me realize just how much of an understated 2D powerhouse the PSP really was. Sure it was a 3D-centered system but it could really handle 2D very well also
I’ll second that. The sprite work is incredible!
It look like the successor of Metal Warriors
@Hot & Cool An english PSP version doesn't exist. The video is from the english PC version.
@@rolen47thank you man for mentioning I was looking for it and I couldn’t find it so thank you for mentioning
0:18 this music is from one of my favorite games on psp, Last Ranker, a beautiful JRPG
I've only played a little bit of Half-Minute Hero when I downloaded the demo back in the day. I still have it saved on my memory stick. Ys Seven I had a lot of fun with. It was the first Ys game I ever finished. Also OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FEATURING MY COLLECTION PIC IN THIS VIDEO THAT'S SO COOL AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111@1111111
Haha thanks for being a part of the Discord community mate 🙂
Um... glad to see someone talk about Hakuoki but... you do realize it's based off of an otome game, right? I didn't hear any mention of that anywhere when you talked about it. The game actually features 6 characters, all capture targets from the 'original' otome game as well as 2 more characters in free mode, there are two campaigns with one being a re-imagining of the story while the other directly follows the original game plot but from the point of view of the male characters, the game features a lot of cut-scenes from the anime based off of the game and also features a pretty decent sound gallery. It's pretty simple as far as musou go but is a gem to fans of the otome series it is based off of. Just be careful you don't get it confused with the similar sounding 'Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom' which is the original visual novel otome game.
Side note, not actually saying you mispronounced it or anything, just wanted to clarify a minor detail on the name, for some odd reason they decided to spell the game series 'Hakuoki' but it's pronounced more like 'Hakuouki', and no I don't know why they spell it that way.
Also, I used to play it on an old 1000 model and my thumb would hurt after a bit on anything but easy mode... still cleared it all though! So it is possible just not as comfortable as using a 2000 or 3000 model.
Uwah... I sound super lame for posting this comment.
A fellow Hakuoki fan I see. ( • ̀ω•́ )
I only play the Otome games, hehe.
Also, thanks for the info. lol
The fact that you bring up undead nights and half minute hero just gets me 😍 This man knows his stuff!!
No one talks about Grand Knights History because it never came to the west. It's localization got canceled and some of the team that worked on it left, formed their own studio and made Grand Kingdom, which was a similar style game.
@@martinde-serres8724 why would they delist the PS4 version? And would that really be up to them and not the publisher?
I somehow didn't even see you uploaded this until now, thanks RUclips.
Anyways, BIG props for including Crush in this, one of the more unique PSP titles tbh.
Also, I'd throw Ys 1 and 2 Chronicles and Oath in Felghana to accompany Seven. I HAVE noticed a good few people have started to talk about the Ys series over the last half year or so though (probably due to Ys 9's release).
Man RUclips is so broken 😅 glad you enjoyed the video man!
So glad you’re talking about these games!
I really love side-scrolling shooting games I thought I've played All of them on the psp but thanks to you I discovered armoured hunter , I just downloaded the game and I love it, thank you my friend.
Psn works for you on your PSP? I keep getting errors and thought the network is down for good
Another great video! You should also go over the great multiplayer (specifically local wireless/ad-hoc) games on the PSP as well! Especially if you know some good hidden gems like the ones you mentioned here. It's always cool to play with someone else on the PSPs. The system had a lot of great local wireless games (same with the DS and 3DS). Lots of great memories playing with friends and family.
Grand Knights History is turning out to be quite a fun game with a great visual style. It's kind of sad really that a PSP isn't the best way to play PSP games any longer.
i mean if you have one, it's well worth playing on it.
But i think the PS Vita is the best way to play PSP these days and a modded Vita has access to all PSP games.
When online feature still active the red kingdom is the strongest lol. Single player is quite grindy btw
Is English available directly on the UHD? I can't find a localized version on disc, and I do not have a PC.
Grand Knights History punishes you if you try to keep your characters. The AI enemies become hilariously difficult if you don't send your characters off to war!! 🤣🤣
Fantastic video with awesome recommendations indeed. I have a few more:
1) Geronimo Stilton in the Kingdom of Fantasy
2) Gurumin: a monstrous adventure
3) Kingdom of Paradise
I was going to also recommend Hakuoki Warriors of the Shinsengumi, and "Grand Knights History", but I am glad you beat me to it. Vanilla ware games on PSP/PS Vita (Muramasa Rebirth) play and look better than other developers' games on PS5. That is not an exaggeration. Those guys are extremely talented sprite artists, and even more talented combat designers!
Thanks for the suggestions Dev!
Four great PSP games that never left Japan are Princess Crown, Shining Blade, Shining Ark, Mana Khemia 2.
Thanks for the suggestion!
thanks, I'll definitely check them out.
Or Sd Gundam G Generation Overworld. Thankfully the game has been translated by fans so now we can play the ultimate PSP Gundam game with hundreds of units and multiple series to pick from. I must have for any mecha or strategy fans
And monster hunter portable 3rd but sadly no g rank but still good game i clocked in 150 hours
Undead Knights hell yeah! I love that game so much.
Also there was a GTA clone out there that was pretty fun too. I beat the game and couldn't stop playing it.
Great selection there, man! Undead Knights and Metal Gear Ac!d² I test myself some years ago, I can guarantee those are amazing games!
I play more my Vita, but i been searching for a few psp games. i picked up 3 this month after not picking any up for a year, lol. Watching ur list :) thank you
Glad the videos helped out 🙂
Undead Knighta was an awesome game, and we got the full version for free completely by mistake. It definitely hurt the sales of this game.
How did you get the full game by mistake for free?
@@extremist0750 The demo was actually the full release. They had to retract it later. But once you had it, you had it.
That Armored Hunter game you pointed out was the PC version. The PSP version was Japan only and never got the "EX" edition. Looks dope regardless so I'm going to check it out.
Rlly glad someone pointed out Undead Knights, it’s an amazing game and deserves a sequel tbh
My favorites are Blake rock Shooter: The Game, 7th Dragon 2020 and Nayuta no Kiseki, all which had to be fan translated (Although BRS was properly translated in 2012).
Undead Knights was the one you got me most excited to play. never heard of it.
Damn, these are good. I'm gobbling these videos up like Crunch 'n Munch.
Haha glad you find the videos helpful!
Great video. Found some new psp games to try out now.
MGA 2 and HMH are games I remember fondly. HM Hero of Leaf Valley was a good upgrade from the original, too.
YS seven is a banger,
it's absolutely crushed their older series by reinventing a new addictive gameplay.
even watching that footage again instantly giving me an itch to play it again.
i don't know if YS seven is that unpopular, but, it's the best game that you could get your hands on PSP.
I didn't even know there was a Harvest Moon for the PSP, it looks beautiful too!
Well worth giving a go!
I actually know about the Hakuouki Warriors game from being a fan of the central otome series. I bought this game on day one when it came out lol. None of my other friends who know of the otome series knew this game existed when I brought it up.
Half Minute Hero is basically Speed Running.
1.Grand knights history
2.Undead Knights
3.Meral gear acid 2
4.Hamuoki-Warriors Of The Shinsengumi
5.WTF-Work Time Fun
6.Crush
7.Half Minute Hero
No idea why creators choose not to put their game listings in descriptions. This is helpful. Thank you.
Rengoku II: The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N. is IMO one of the best handheld hidden gems. The first game was pretty awful but very skippable, story-wise. The 2nd fixes the first game's woes, namely controls. You take control of an android fighting his way through a tower filled with enemy androids, beating them and taking their body parts (weaponry) to equip for your own. Great atmosphere, crazy amount of loadout customization, decent OST, and for those who want more of a challenge, there are progressively harder NG+ runs to tackle. It's my 2nd-favorite PSP game, right behind Crisis Core.
I think that both Rengoku were kind of passion projects for devs. Especially that artist who did "gun" artwork.
High roller remix gives me life
this helps to jog my memory. i never knew vanillaware had a psp game made. i'm thinking of getting a psp go and fill it with pirated roms. yugioh tcb and armored core ports are worth mentioning. aside from rpgs, psp library had an abundance of versus games that vita should have had.
Pretty good list! Very glad to see Undead Knights on there! I feel like that one doesn't get talked about much at all. 🎉
Damn I ligit liked the look of every single one of these games, great video!
Crush is my favourite PSP game. I haven't seen the same mechanic again, though Fez comes close.
I love videos like this. I'm always looking for hidden gems.
The PSP was great when it came to weird and obscure titles. Metal Gear Ac!d was one of my favorites and shit like Half Minute Hero were great for short gaming bursts. While not my favorite handheld it holds a special place in my heart.
Good games and excelent video! I recomend 7th dragon 2020 I and II
Glad you enjoyed it!
I played the 7th Dragon game on the 3DS and was totally blown away! Great story, great characters, fun fights!
@@craiganderson7986 hidden gem bro haha
Both the PSP and Nintendo DS were such good consoles for quirky one-off games. Especially if you're into RPGs.
I’ll second that. There’s such a great selection of titles!
I never hear about resistance retribution, it’s such a good game. I highly recommend it ! ❤
Silent hill origins and shattered memories , splinter cell essentials and syphon filter are great too ❤
Don’t miss out on these ! 😅
This is actually a good list most of the time I see people just slap the same games in a list and call it a day but this one actually has good underrated games
You might as well put Valkyria Chronicles 2 on there too. I've never seen a soul talk about it and it feels like im the only man that plays it. Same for the Soul Eater game and Sunday Vs Magazine
Great video, love grand Knight history and on vita its Grand kingdom.
Loved metal gear acid. I regret not finishing 2 though
A suggestion: If you don't want your video to come off as a listicle you should open with a thesis sentiment. Something like, "The PSP was an amazing handheld in the late 2000s, and it had some groundbreaking titles. But today I'm going to walk you through a few of the PSP games that nobody talks about." It's better than a cold open on one of the games because it introduces the list of games and makes the viewer feel more welcome. If I were only barely familiar with video games, say I played Atari 2600 a couple times back in the 80s or something, it would endear me to the video more than just opening on a glamour shot of the PSP and going immediately into a game I have no reference to.
Again, just a suggestion that I think would help your video perform better. You can take it or leave it as you choose to, of course.
I love Toaru Majutsu No Index, it is a great anime game based on a great anime and the graphics are just awesome
You forgot to mention that Metal Gear Acid 2 is also a stereoscopic 3D game. The cell shaded art style was chosen to emphasize that feature. I remember that they included a peripheral device to enjoy the 3D feature with the game.
Another excellent list keep up the good work bud 👍
There's loads of great games on the psp a underrated handheld these days.
Lord Of The Rings Tactics is really good if you have not played it kind of like fire emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics
Thanks Karl!
Really informative video. Thank you for this 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
Grand Knights History and Undead Knights look legit. Time to order some games.
Ys Seven is hands down the best PSP game imo, even though now there is a superior version on PC. Second place would be Nayuta no Kiseki (English patch available).
Space invaders extreme was life on my PSP
Excellent video as always
Thanks mate!
Thank you for recommending Hakuoki!
Such a great a Muso!
Tokobot is a puzzle platformer game on PS2/PSP with bots in formations to navigate platforms and attack. Reminds of the Clank sections in Ratchet and Clank or Lemmings but the formations are the focus not instructing them to separately do things on their own. Looked up PSP games on Wikipedia and came across it.
I'm planning on getting Syphon Filter, Ace Combat, Star Wars, and Naruto soon for my PSP
Great games!
Work time fun was awesome, the games were hilarious 😆
M.A.C.H hella underrated I barely see anyone talk about that racing game its fighter jets that race and have arena dog fights 9/10 fasho🤙🏽
I played Undead Knight, Metal Gear ACID (both of them, great OST) and Half Minute Hero :D These were one of my favourites on PSP, just wish I had Grand Knights History, Vanillaware is always delivering goodies :D
If you like Armoured Hunter try Cybernator on the SNES. It's the same setting 😊
I played Undead Knights way back and I enjoyed it.
Huh. So there's quite a strong contender for inspiration for Fez. I never knew Crush was a thing way before Fez. 🤔
It’s such a great puzzle game!
Well, not "way before" though! Crush came out in May 2007, and Fez was announced in public in July 2007.
3weeks ago?! Damn you're really dedicated on PSP
Brave story is a fun, classic style Rpg with good art direction. Always wish Crush would've had a sequel on the Vita that utilized all the touch features. Untold legends were fun dungeon crawling hack n slash games, Prinny can I really be the hero 1 & 2. Really solid system.
Such a great era when each and every every single game wasn’t an RPG/adventure and different gaming genres were catered for
Which era are you talking about? The era that didn't have a bunch of RPG/adventure was with the PS3 and Xbox 360.
great video, thanks
I'm surprised Dungeon Maker: Hunting ground didnt make the list. My favorite psp game.
i knew 3 games.
the first one looked so good omg
The art style and gameplay in Grand Knight's History are top notch! Too bad it was geared so heavily toward online play :(
I've played a lot of undead knights. Finishing it all 3 characters. It kinda gets repetitive but i've enjoyed my time playing it. It's a hidden gem
Grand Knight History❤❤❤.
On of the best
I didn't knew about *Armored Hunter Doghound" it looks a lot like a game that i played a lot as a kid: "Front Mission - Gun Hazard"
lol i still play half minute hero, i got it on my psvita XD its really fun
I love the PSP I have a meger collection of about 15 games, but one of my biggest finds was Final Fantasy: Crisis Core I got it for $20 complete.
"Chicken Sexer" is a serious job.
great video, what's the song that you used on the metal gear acid segment of the vídeo, it feels awfully familiar but i don't remember where it is from.
Dante's Inferno and the Silent Hill games, are also games you don't hear much about these days.
but i have to say, The PSP has the most diverse library of any handheld, before or since, The Steam Deck is looking to take that spot though.
Psp and snes are tpg havens
I have a PSP when I was little and it still works. Wonder what to play on that.
Such a great handheld! Plenty of psp videos on the channel if you need some ideas 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow It’s too bad that Sony isn’t making handhelds anymore since the failure of the PS Vita. It would’ve made a great competition with the Switch. And I have the PSP since I was 5. It still works and I’m 21.
Ys Seven introduced me to the Ys Series and I've been a fan of the series ever since.
Such a great rpg!
@@thatvideogamesshow it sure Ys! Pun intended.
As far i know Armored Hunter for PSP only avaliable in Japan version. The english one is PC.
