Finally, someone who doesn't choose to make a pawn, this is more difficult and better for learning, IDK why you haven´t uploaded for a while, but I´ll do my best for learning 3d modeling.
I know this is an incredibly simple model compared to some of your other videos, but it's still great to watch an absolute master doing his thing. You have some of the greatest modelling tutorials on RUclips and I have learned so much from watching you. I am still several steps behind your skill level but I hope to get there one day! Thank you for such an enjoyable video.
After I spent a whole day following another tutorial which lasts 2hours, I found this one... Will definitely recommend yours to my friends! Please keep posting new videos! Subscribed! : D
Really good tutorial. Even for someone who's been using Blender for a few months now, your video gave me lots of helpful information. Subbed. Hope you make more like these in the future.
Great video! I think I found it like everyone else: I finished all the easy pieces and then went looking for help with the knight. You've helped me tremendously. Thanks!
The bevel modifier doesn't work for me, when I try to adjust the width, it doesn't change anything until I put it to 0.00 which just turns the effect off basically. All values above 0.00 look the same. Any idea what I am doing wrong? The UI of the bevel modifier has changed a bit too, might be causing it.
Nice topology. And your speaking is better than most americans ;) The "dynamic" may be too fast - so some will complain. There is always someone who will complain. But yes - speed up the repetition.
i have a problem so when i added the mirror modifier instead of doin it like in the video i like duplicated it and placed it on top i don't know what's wrong
Great Tutorial, I have a challenge you may like, you may not. Make a kriss vector, Which does fall into your kind of modeling style which is hard surface modeling. Now its up to you, just an idea :) Great video by the way, glad your releasing videos again :)
Nice tutorial but I have a question, what if I want only a single mesh (for example for 3d printing), should I manually merge the meshes ? use a remesh tool ?
Hey thanks, I have never tried making a single mesh before, I think the process would require a remesh tool like they use in sculpt, you should only merge manually if the object is simple
Hi, there is a official blender playlist to help new people ruclips.net/p/PLa1F2ddGya_-UvuAqHAksYnB0qL9yWDO6 What I did was an operation called smooth shading, it creates a visual transition between flat points on the surface of the model, to control where we need it to look sharp I used the Mean Bevel Weight with Bevel Modifier, previously my main method to control sharp edges was by using support loops. I hope you enjoy using Blender ;)
Phaire3D thank you! Is there a way to easily produce a shell of the complete model? So it’s ‘water-tight’ and no geometry inside? I appreciate all the content you’re putting up!
@@sneakylou Hey thanks, there are some geometries from the ears and hair inside the body, I don't know if this is bad, maybe only the slicer software could tell more if this model would result in a good 3d print
Hi, the images that I used as reference are available in the description, there are 3 images to download, the front, right and back image. Let me know if you have any questions ;)
This was really excellent. I've tried the knight several different ways and had a lot of issues! I was able to complete this and very happy with the result. It was a stretch for me as I'm pretty new, but I got it done. The auto merge snapping on extrude didn't work for me--I had to extrude near the vertex and then grab to snap it. I didn't add the F2 add-on until later, so maybe that was an issue. Likewise with the Alt-S for the mane; possibly also related to F2. Again, thank you so much. One question: what if you only have a side view reference photo--would it be possible to fake the front and back views? I ask this because it's hard to find all three views--I've been thinking about buying the chess pieces and photographing them myself.
Hey thanks for your comment! The auto merge works like that, it will only merge after snapping or if the mesh is very close to each other, the F2 Addon was not actually required it just gives some more advanced results while pressing F. About the lack of three views image reference that happens to me all the time, basically you need to train your eyes to understand the object on the image and translate their proportions to the 3d modeling, maybe I'll create a video explaining in depth this topic :)
@@Phaire3D Thanks--great to hear from you! I have another problem--I tried to add a nostril hole to the nose by cutting out part of the three faces that join there (three different planes). I subdivided so that everything is quads. But I can't figure out any way to fill behind the hole, so it doesn't look completely hollow. Any ideas? (I know this wasn't part of the original tutorial.)
Actually I figured out a way. I have a point far "up" the nostril and then connect it to the other points around the hole (sort of like a vanishing point would look). Thanks again for the advice on just having one reference image.
Hey sry I took so long to answer, to fill behind a hole you could select and press CTRL F > Grid Fill, and adjust it on the menu that appears on the bottom left
@@Faiqal_x1103 Oh I forgot to mention, the Fill operation makes tris, the one I used is Grid Fill that makes quads, if you close the circle with a face (F) that n-gon will not allow edge loops unless you cut it manually with knife tool, same goes for tris, but in the n-gon sometimes the knife will not work because of the lack of geometry around it to support the knife operation, I had issues like this in past, now when I cut something from n-gon I make a least 3 edges attached to the surface
The problem is that there are so many different shortcuts that you use that many people who's trying to get into blender doesn't know and this becomes a problem
Hi ! I like your tutorial series and nowadays I'm following your M98B tutorial. I have a request, can you make character modeling or hard surface tutorial series ? That can be very helpful. Thanks.
Hey! You should try making a roblox character diving in the air or something! I would love to see how professionals make stuff like that! If you could I would really appreciate it!
Thank you for choosing a chess piece that is a little more difficult. Everyone always chooses the pawn.
Having a voice over improves your tutorials massively. Thanks for the great work - keep it up!

It looks so easy as you do it, but for me it will take at least 2 days. Great tutorial. Nice job. Thank you
Very high quality tutorial! The voice over is very helpful to better understand what you are doing. Keep up the good work :D
Great commentary along with the modeling. It was quite fiddly, but I learnt a ton! Cheers!
Hey thank you for the feedback! Im glad you learned a lot :)
I'm just starting with blender, and I was stunned by the simplicity of this tutorial if the voiceover....
Thank you, I found this pretty tricky. Great work! :)

Cant wait till your next upload :)
Awesome video! How many triangles do this object consist of?
can you give us a flat shaded picture? its kinda hard to follow the curves with it already shaded smooth
First time hear your voice.
Keep going.
I'm making more of these, thanks for watching =)
how 2 pick back view?
muito bom cara, orgulho de saber que temos brasileiros nesse campo também
Just found your channel your work is amazing. Any plans on uploading anything new?
Thank you so much! I hope you have more videos about Architecture modeling

You made such a great topology!!!! (Y)
How are you connecting this vertices ?
Thanks. I don't understand how to make volume, when i try to do something myself. (((
What does shift + n do at 12:40 ?¿
Shift N is used to recalculate the normals so they all face up, producing proper shading
