the shortcut for grid fill is ctrl+F, another tip is after apply shader smooth you can go to Object Data Propeties (green triangle) > Normals > Auto Smooth, this will normalize automatically the normals withou need of the subdivision modifier
Specifically "Ctrl + F > G". Also with Blender 3.3, they added "Shade Auto-Smooth" under the same right click menu which automatically enables the Normal auto smoothing for you.
Recently I found out that I use these most of all in addition to your's 5: 6) alt+e - to Extrude along normals 7) i - to Inset Faces 8) Symmetrize (mesh-> Symmetrize rather than or in addition to mirror modifier) 9) Bridge Edge Loop (always in a quickmenu as well as grid fill tool) 10) Solidify modifier 11) j - to Connect Vertex Path 12) k - to Knife tool. and less or completely don't use subdivision modifier. barely or limited use spin and shear tools
5:31 No, it is not the missing geometry, it is the normals. Go to the Mesh properties (green triangle pointing downwards ) Under „Normals“ you will find „Auto Smooth“ turn that on. Normals are bit more intricate but when you shade smooth the normals will be averaged between adjacent faces. Auto smooth will prevent that averaging for adjacent faces when the angle between the two is higher than the value next to „auto smooth“ (hard to explain in text)

It can be a good way to have a single model driving a mult-res model for gaming, rather than relying on decimate modifiers or actually creating a new model for each version. @@Salsuero He doesn't do it to spite you, lol. He just grew up saying it. Us non-zed users know what he means.
@@DuckyDuckington Never said he did. Please don't put words in my mouth. I am fully capable of expressing my own opinions.
I didn't put words in your mouth? I said it's more of a cultural thing and that we know what he means anyway. If you don't want to include yourself in the "us" portion, then don't. It's implied you don't use the zed terminology from your original statement, so I inherently believed you to not use it and included you in the "us" category.
No reason to be rude, my guy.
This is perfect. These are the 5 infinity stones of blender for me for sure.
The fact that scene data isn't turned on by default is a damn crime against modelling community.
What do you mean?
@@Zeriel00 The info about the amount of verts/tris in the scene and selected objects, etc.
@@SkinnyBlackout It's displayed at the bottom right of the screen at all times, by default.
@@eddieandersson5570 Which version? I'm on 2.90.0 and I had to specifically go to settings and enable this feature. I believe it used to be on by default up until 2.9. Maybe they turned it on again for the latest releases. Maybe you had it turned on and the settings transitioned to your version of Blender.
@@SkinnyBlackout I'm on 2.9.1 and I think it was on I don't recall turning it on.
Either way once you made the start scene as you want it.You can save it as a new start up scene, so that it always open up with the options you want on.
It's hard to cater for everyone.
you are the only one making meaningful explanations. I was about to quit learning blender after watching billions of video, tnx bro
They have missed one tool that's Insert/Intrude 😅
well.. technically you can use Ctrl R or Extrude to make the same thing.. you'd only need a few more steps to do some things
Perfect video to link to friends who want to start out in blender
I’d rather use auto smooth instead of subdiv + bevel
Yah! , Adding additional faces also increases the render time a lot.
Glad that someone has the same opinion as me.
thanks for the tutorial, guys, and one extra thanks for the music!
what is the music name?
For this one, no need of subd at all.
auto smooth and done
great music man!
what its name?
Respectfully asking why didn't you just start with a regular cylinder
to show bevel tool ig?
Extrude, Boolean, beavel, knife and loop cut are my favourite 😁😅
NOOOOO - That last section (facepalm) use 'Mark Hard Edges' with subdivs or simply change the max smoothing angle in the geometry tab.
My top five modeling tools:
1. knife
2.belt grinder
3. chainsaw
4. plasma cutter
5. lathe
Ok CG Cookie Blender why not use this guy to teach new users. His teaching style rocks. This guy and the way you all have the graphics animated. Something about this method is key. So how about it Blender Have this guy to teach beginners courses. Thanks!
Good video - I especially liked your dramatic glowing marker animation to highlight the concepts.
Chris Bailey, I'm owning a literally untouchable 3D Pen now (except I'm going to print out) Big THX for my 1st day in class
The coolest Blender video I've seen in youtube.
That music is so epic wow
i have used a few of these but never knew they were this powerful :O also the music is so inspiring!!
i think i fully understand how i can edit thigns with these tools, now to practice!!
what is the music name?
For the smoothing, you could either just auto smooth it for 30* or you can use the "Make sharp" on the smooth edges so it stays sharp.
So much information in 7 minutes. Bravo sir.
Nailed it! The Shift + XY or Z to not scale in that direction = Home Run! Thank you & much love! :)
