damn he still sounds good. I remember seeing them in a small theater in Alabama and was amazed at how they sounded just like their recordings. That was amazing to me because so many don't. I will always love this band
To sing like that; with those ranges, subtle inflections, and depth of feelings after so many many years is beautiful and awe-inspiring. And "Avon calling" to start it. No one seemed to get it, but it was a clever intro to going back in time.
I was stunned to learn "Stand or Fall" was not their biggest hit for The Fixx. It is one of the best rock songs ever and Cy Curnin has such a terrific personality that brings the band together.
I was 20 years old when this song came out on the radio while serving at fort Bragg, I was hooked on the fixx ever since....... In my shuttered room !!!! Perhaps my favorite classic song.
I'm was a teen in the early 80's and liked their songs on the radio, but wow ... I didn't realize 'till now what an amazing group of super talented musicians and singers these guys are. Suddenly, I'm into them again, but for different reasons now. I'm on a Fixx marathon today and loving it.
Alot of prog rock and alternative groups in the 1980s were known for having some of the best live performances. The original 80s style In my opinion came from the English alternative wave influenced by David bowie and pink floyd. Though the later 80s power ballads will always be cool
UnFuckinReal I felt like I was back in the 80's I grew up with the Fixx and have seen them live in Boston and they sound just as incredible as they did back in the 80's Kudos 👏 to everyone and thank you for the Honor seeing you play live again, I am truly Blessed 🙏 Thanks Fixx! ❤
had the pleasure of seeing The Fixx , here in Houston some years ago. really intense, great awesome !. Unlike this relatively calm performance, it was hot sweaty, gritty and beautiful
@@tc1817 difficulty isn’t the issue, although some of his riffs are deceptively tricky. It’s the fact that he comes up with unique guitar leads and rhythms that make you automatically know it’s the Fixx.
It's so ironic that you wrote this, because I literally just finished exclaiming that to my son, and then I noticed your comment. It is so true, Cy Curnin just sounds bloody amazing. They are so underrated.
I am getting older, and looked for this song here and was listening to it on the background while working and when he started to sing I had to look at it!!!...they sound great!!!! wow!!!
This song released back in the '80's, then this is done in 2012; AMAZING how these lyrics are standing the test of time in 2020. Cy sounds as if he could have written them for the world yesterday!
I remember my girlfriend at the time bought me/us tickets to see The Fixx here in Toronto - I was ecstatic! It was around 1983 I think and I also believe that Flock of Seagulls performed too. What a concert and boy the early 80's produced some amazing new wave bands! I still look back sometimes and think that people around my age (61) got to experience awesome rock bands in the 70's followed by fantastic new wave and punk bands in the 80's. It was a great time to be alive! ❤
I saw The Fixx open for J Geils Band a few summers ago. The Fixx killed it. They were fantastic. I was in awe and totally captivated by their show. The sounded absolutely great. You can tell they worked as a unit together for decades as their sound was that tight. Best 80's act out there it terms of sound and stage presence.
The Fixx music and compositions are one-of-a-kind. Never heard anything like it before or since. The Fender single coil guitar sound works perfectly in its own unique way into these songs. There's no convenient box to put the Fixx music inside of in order to describe it.
Funny this was recorded Aug. 7, 2012. It just so happens that it is now Aug . 7, 2022, exactly 10 years since The Fixx released "Beautiful Friction". OK, Get ready....The boy's have just released their latest album entitled "Every 5 Seconds". Enjoy everyone, and good health to you!!!
I've seen this band live multiple times and they are still great to this day. The smaller venues they play these days make for an awesome experience. If you have never seen them, Go! Their sound is electric and when they play classics like this or Built for the Future it brings out the goosebumps.
The word "crafted" comes to mind. Such a strong song with diverse elements that match to create the wash of sounds each of which still remains distinct.
Their music sounded futuristic when they first came out in the Eighties. Now they just sound modern because everyone else has caught up. But they still sound great and I always enjoyed the guitar 🎸 sound and playing of Jamie West Oram! Very Underrated! Listen to him here! Amazing!
I’m a teen from from the 80s and each year for about a month I go back and make the rounds of the music from that time period. It grounds me to keep on the goals. I loved The Fixx. They sound excellent.
was hoping to hear the explosive middle part of the song. Still, a great rendition. These guys are every bit as good as they were 40 years ago. As the 80's drifts quietly into oblivion, some of the musical gold that was created 4 decades ago is starting to rise to the top again. Thanks for posting.
I have only one problem with this song. I can only leave one thumbs up. It is incredible
One of the most UNDERRATED bands of our time.
This song is extinct on 80s radio playing stations today.
Lyrics are so fitting today
Agreed!
The Fixx is always right on the money with what's happening!! I Love them!
I concur ten fold
Who told you that they were underrated?
They and their sound and refinements have obly aged like fine wine. Just amazing. Still hits like it always did.
That guitar part and the off-beat timing make this song much harder than it seems. The Fixx is amazing. And yeah, who is listening in 2021?

2021? When it was new and again in 2022!!!
Yes, they are. I saw them live with the Furs at San Pedro Pier in . . . around the mid-2000s. Both were awesome. Berlin was another story . . . yikes.
The Fixx still has it. They remain a great band and their icy sound still reigns years later. The rock of the 80's was the best ever.
Great band with all the original members. Cy's voice never changed and Jamie's guitar still rings like it did in '83.
Wow the song hasn't been tuned down to accomodate any aging vocals, he's still hitting all the notes on the higher end. Bravo!
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this band!
A haunting, timeless tune. This brings back so many memories. The 80’s was a great time to come of age.
damn he still sounds good. I remember seeing them in a small theater in Alabama and was amazed at how they sounded just like their recordings. That was amazing to me because so many don't. I will always love this band
+ThePrettyeyes341 I agree, saw them a few years back and they are still awesome!
MASTER that might be the absolute dumbest comment ever said on you tube.
Hello fellow Alabamian, I agree totally so we both have great taste in music.
I saw them in Memphis and recall how good they sounded.
I did. This and One thing are epic!
Only who lived in the eighties know the real atmosphere of that musics.
The Fixx was one of my favorite bands back in the 80's....
One of the great bands
aged very well. sound the FUCKIN same . LOVE IT
Hayden Wittig AGREED
Just like I remember.....that was awesome.
Timeless music, perfected. None of the band members have missed a beat after all these years.
To sing like that; with those ranges, subtle inflections, and depth of feelings after so many many years is beautiful and awe-inspiring. And "Avon calling" to start it. No one seemed to get it, but it was a clever intro to going back in time.
This Is Just Fantastic!
I was stunned to learn "Stand or Fall" was not their biggest hit for The Fixx. It is one of the best rock songs ever and Cy Curnin has such a terrific personality that brings the band together.
It's actually an anthem.
He is a fantastic frontman. They are really great to watch live. I hope I get the chance to see them again!
@@mikentosh Probably "One Thing Leads To Another"
Mikentosh IDK for sure, but *“Saved by Zero“* is my favorite.
over here in Europe, Less Cities was their most popular track
💐My favorite MTV videos and songs! True originals💝

Today's music is garbage compared to the 80s

wow, how good is it when the bass goes into the major at 3:48, totally uplifts the whole track, great change up, and what a voice, what a band

They sound just as good as I remember them in 1983...The Fixx still rock!!!
an incredibly under rated guitarist. I applaud you sir. & thanks for getting me through the eighties.
Super-crisp guitar sound. Love it!
Jamie West-Oram...highly underrated.
@@CodeBleu724 what part of what he played is so difficult?

The Fixx will always hold a very dear place in my heart. Thank you for sharing!

Same here. Best times of my teenage years 🖤
One of the best live bands I've ever heard....one of the very few that sound just as good live (if not better) as their studio recordings.
It's so ironic that you wrote this, because I literally just finished exclaiming that to my son, and then I noticed your comment. It is so true, Cy Curnin just sounds bloody amazing. They are so underrated.
Great to see sustainability in talent such as the Fixx. Bravo.
Saw them last night in Jax, FL....still awesome!!!
still sound good. an overlooked band
Still loving them 40 years later…thanks Bing!
CY!!!! is the utmost showman...love these guys
cool song. I like his voice.
the 80's without the Fixx wasn't the 80's... best band ever
Amazing voice, I love this group, and I wish to see them live...

I'm a huge early 80's music fan. The Fixx was one of my favorites I would play constantly. The 80's was and still is the best era for music.
TAKE SOME FROM EACH ERA GENRE
This song isn't played on 80s playing stations anymore.

AVON CALLING.... I use that now...I keep going back to this performance. So damn great- I really love this band-
One of the VERY best and most talented, yet somewhat inexplicably underrated, bands ever. Still sounding great!
I have been one of their biggest fan from the very first time I heard them. Even 10 yrs or more they still sound great!
What an amazing group!
The best, congratulations, this group and music is part of the history of Música.
This gets to my soul--so beautiful ! Love Cy's British accent and his outstanding singing.
A wonderful timeless New Wave anthem. As always, my heart beats deeper everytime I listen to this song!!!
Most underrated bands of all time! Even though they don’t give crazy antics on stage their performances are very entertaining.
